FRIDAY FAVORITES!!

Time for some Friday Favorites.

These are brought to you by a tired/excited/can’t wait to get to Boston girl sitting at the Salt Lake City Airport at 11:38 pm.

-This pillow that my mom gave me to use on the airplane.  I have a feeling this is going to be my absolute best friend.

 IMG 0746

-Taco Wednesdays with my favorite date.  One pork, one steak and one chicken.

IMG 9075

-Followed by Brooke’s idea of a picnic.  Eating froyo on her pink blanket in the living room while watching Jake the Pirate.   I like her ideas a lot.

IMG 9080

-Nails that are pretty darn close to matching my race jersey!

IMG 0544

-That in just three days I will be marathoning.  Boston marathoning.

-One final treadmill run of 4 miles.  There have been many many miles put in on the treadmill to get me ready for this marathon.

 IMG 9082

A Brief History of the Boston Marathon!  Super interesting stuff!

Science Explains Why Being Hangry Is a Real Thing.  Finally, the science to explain my life.

-You know I love these.  I cannot wait to try the caramel one.  I always eat one of these about 30 minutes prior to the race start (and a bagel an hour before that).

IMG 9085

-Carb loading, it’s always a favorite.  Country french bread, chicken, pesto, onions, spinach, cheese, tomatoes, heaven.

IMG 0747

-A rocking pep talk via my mom in the car on the way to the airport.

-Brooke telling me all day before I put her to bed, “mama, I’m really going to miss you.”  She gets to be with her dad this weekend (which works out perfectly so that I won’t be away from her for two weekends this month) and I will see her again late Monday night.

Megan brought over all of my favorite candy for my post Boston celebration.  On each bag of candy she included an awesome fact about Boston.  I sure love that girl.

IMG 0749

-I really liked this fact:)

IMG 0750

-Don’t forget to follow me along on MY INSTAGRAM account for all sorts of pics from Boston and on Saturday I’ll be taking over the Women’s Running Instagram account!

– I love to carbo load with sweet potatoes and bagels!!

I hope you arrived to Boston safely!! GOOD LUCK! :)

Reply

Good luck! You’re going to do awesome!

Vanilla Honey Stingers are my favorite. Chocolate is a close second. I tend to eat alot of carbs in general, so I don’t actually carb load before a race. I usually just try to eat less fiber and hydrate really well.

Friday Favorite – its a long weekend (since I’m celebrating Patriots Day on Monday from home)! Woohoo!

Reply

Good luck in Boston!!! You will do great.

Reply

So excited for you to run Boston! I’ll be following along closely at home and cheering for you :) Good luck!

Honey Stingers are the only gel that doesn’t upset my stomach, and I love the gold flavor. I recently picked up some waffles and other flavored gel and I cant wait to try them out this weekend!

Reply

Very excited for you! Your work is done, now the celebration. You will rock it :)

Reply

Friday favorites: funny pictures of cats. And the fact that my favorite day of the week is tomorrow.

I’ve never had the honey stingers, but I really want to try that caramel one!

I love carb loading, but I feel like I live in a constant state of carb loading. I eat SO many carbs. That sandwich looks absolutely delicious, and now I am craving Panera.

My nails are painted a sparkly red with the pinkies sparkly gold. :)

Hope you have a WONDERFUL trip! LOVE the candy/encouragement from your friend. So thoughtful, and I’m sure you will love indulging in those after you OWN that Boston course!!

Reply

I have not tried the waffles yet………….I need to though! Right now I am training for a half, so there really aren’t many runs I actually take food for right now, but when I start prepping for my marathon this fall I will have to try those!

I eat more pasta and pb&j closer to races. I love some pb&j!

I painted my toes purple! So fun!

Reply

Yay how exciting.!! Have a great flight :) I’m so excited for all your Boston Adventures

I don’t really carb load much. Just eat like usual. Lol and my nails aren’t painTed. but my toenails are, and purple.!!

Reply

My nails are not painted right now, but I finally got a pedicure last week after a long winter without anything on my toes!
I can’t wait to follow along for your big race- you are SO ready!!! Good luck and have so much fun!

Reply

Good luck Hun!!!!!!

Pink nails currently and ways pizza and pasta for carb loading!! :)

Reply

Wooooo, can’t believe it’s finally here! Good luck, Janae!!

My favorite way to carload is a big bowl of pasta 2 nights before and 1 night before. My nails are painted a glossy pink color that I’m loving!

Reply

So excited for you! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Reply

I won’t talk to you until afterwords but good luck on Monday Janae. I know you will crush it and do amazing.

Reply

Honey stingers are the best!

I love carb loading with pasta, sweet potatoes and oatmeal. Nothing fancy, but my tummy loves it all!

Reply

I’m so excited for you! I’ll be cheering for you from my office (where I hope to be able to sneak some streaming Boston Marathon!!!)

Reply

I’m loving Starbucks Iced Coffee with SF Cinnamon Dolce syrup. I woke up with a headache, and Starbucks usually helps.

And my nails are actually covered in Jamberry Nail Wraps in Destiny. They’re a blue flowered pattern that my mom said looked like wallpaper. Don’t care. I love them. ;-) I do need to change them, though. It’s been like two weeks. Bored now.

Do great things at the marathon! And Have fun!

Reply

Feeling so excited for you!! You are going to be fantastic. Oh can’t wait. Roll on marathon morning. Jac

Reply

Good luck Janae!! It’s been so fun following you along your training journey, and now here you are! I cannot wait to hear all about this race experience.

Reply

Have fun and enjoy the experience!

Friday Favorites – working from home today and the fact that it’s Friday! And I finally registered for a race this Spring (geist half may 16) so I have something to look forward to!

Never had honey stingers – I’ll have to try them :)
My nails are currently naked. I can never keep up on my nails. They end up chipping and I don’t have time to fix them, so it’s just better to leave ’em bare unless I have a special occasion.

Reply

I’m so excited for you (and to see your Instagram feed with all the pictures)! I already have it set in my PVR since I have to work on Monday and can’t watch it live!
My Friday Favourite is that it is going to be sunny and 20 degrees Celsius here! Might take the boys out for some froyo later!
Have a great trip (and marathon)!

Reply

Best picnic ever :) . Good luck!!

Reply

I’m so excited for you! I can’t wait to hear and follow you on Monday. As far as carb loading, give me all the oatmeal and fruit and I’m one happy girl. Good luck!!!

Reply

I’m so excited for you!!!! And your mom made a good call on the neck pillow, they make all the difference in the world on an airplane!

Reply

I’ll be watching from the sidelines at mile 26! (Where I always watch!) Here’s hoping next year I’ll be RUNNING it! ;)

Reply

I’ve never had a honey stinger before actually. Maybe I need to try one? I’m mostly vegan but will eat honey!

You do your nails just like I do when I race – accent ring finger! My fave was when I wore hot pink and yellow and did hot pink nails with the yellow accent :) Thank goodness almost every crazy color is available via nail polish now!

I generally eat rice and soy sauce the day before a race. I use to do pasta but somehow figured out that I had better training runs after I had veg sushi so decided rice and the soy sauce was a good idea. I think the soy helping retain water isn’t a bad thing :) no science behind at all – just my personal analysis!

Friday favorite – well – it’s FRIDAY! And I’m having date night with the hubby tonight :)

Reply

I’m SOOOOOOOOO excited for you!!! I’ll be cheering you on from MD!!!!!
I don’t really carb load….only because I eat a lot of carbs all the time. I don’t do too much different, I just always do a bagel race morning! I hardly ever paint my nails…when I do I always leave it on too long and it chips :)

Reply

*Friday favorites. Getting groceries while everyone is sleeping at my house so I can go for a run while my little girls at preschool :)
* My nail are not yet painted but will be painted next week for the tiger’s game! (same as you blue and orange)
BEST OF LUCK to you!!! :)

Reply

Beyond excited for you. Thank you for taking us all along on your journey.
Friday favorite = 5.4 mile run in the rain! I love running in the rain and gave me a chance to try out my new rain gear which works like a charm!

Have a great weekend. Enjoy all the memories you will be making.

Reply

I will definitely be following along on instagram! Wishing you the best of luck and hoping you are feeling all better. That candy will certainly help :) Love the nails — right now I have an Essie light pink but not sure which one it is which is bothering me because I usually know which one I selected lol.

Reply

GOOD LUCK Janae!!!! You are going to absolutely crush boston. I’ll be at the expo this weekend and will be keeping my eyes out for you on Monday. Boston is already bustling with marathon excitement and energy… welcome!!

-Allie

Reply

My nails are currently and nude color with a slightly lavender tone. I love colors that are close to skin color because the chipping is less noticeable.
I love carbo loading with Superpretzels!!!
Have a great Boston weekend and race!

Reply

Janae, I’m so excited for you! I’ll be on the course on Monday cheering you on! You’ll love every minute of it and you’re going to do so well!

Reply

i am a fan of carb loading :). i keep it pretty simple with pasta, bagels, and rice. GOOD LUCK in boston!

Reply

I used to work at a running store and we’d have to keep an eye on the expiration dates of the fuel products and I was always chomping at the bit for the Honey Stinger Waffles to expire so that I could eat them for a snack. I never brought my own food as I never planned ahead so I was always starving at work!

Reply

Janae, I wanted to say how gracefully I think you handle situations online. I love that you wrote that Brooke “gets” to be with her dad this weekend. Your positive attitude is contagious and it is obvious that impacts your family and friends (not to mention blog readers) in a wonderful way. You are going to ROCK ROCK ROCK Boston. I’d say ‘Good Luck’ but you don’t need it. So I’ll just say have ‘Have Fun’ and I’m excited to read all about it.

Reply

WELCOME TO BOSTON!!!!! Enjoy your time here and good luck on Monday! I wish I were running, but I BQ’d for 2016!

Reply

Macaroni and cheese is my ultimate pre-race food. I made the mistake of eating oatmeal the night before my first race (I know!!!) and it lead to so many bathroom trips, I should have brought a newspaper. You’re going to ROCK IT!

Reply

Good luck, Janae! I wish you the best of luck. You’ll rock that marathon so good!! Trust your training and know that you’ll be awesome.

Reply

Hey Janae!! So excited for you! I don’t know you personally… but we’ve e-mailed a couple of times and I actually tear up a little as I think about how hard you’ve trained for this and how exciting it is that you’re so close now to your goal now. You’ve had things thrown at you that could shake a person’s confidence, but just know that when you cross that starting line, you will feel fresh and confident and focused on your mission. You will find that zone. I know it :) Have a blast!!

Reply

I am totally living vicariously through you right now!! I can’t wait to follow you and watch you rock Boston!!

Friday Favs: pony tail holders for bad hair days ;-) And I’m really digging my FitBit HR right now.

My fav food to carb load with is probably sandwiches, good ones though ;0)

I almost always have my nails painted, it’s kind of my thing. Right now they are teal with one finger of glitter and one finger says “love.”

Reply

What are some of your Friday favorites?
Hmm.. Snow! We have snow in Colorado, and it’s technically spring, but there is almost 6 inches out there. O_o

What foods are your favorite to carb load with? Do you carb load much for races?
I don’t normally carb load a ton for races, but my favorites are definitely PASTA, and sometimes pizza.

I hope the marathon goes super well Janae!!! :)) Run hard.

Reply

GOOD LUCK IN BOSTON!!! :)

Reply

So excited for you! I can’t wait to see how Boston goes. I know you will rock it.

I have actually never tried Stingers or anything for that matter when I am running. I’d be interested to see if they have any effect on my performance!

Reply

Good luck!! I will be cheering for you at Mile 24!! Enjoy your Boston weekend. We are supposed to have great weather!!

Reply

Ahh! I am so jealous you are running Boston! Best of luck and have a GREAT race. Make sure you go to North End and treat yourself to a cannoli from Mike’s (bring cash). Boston is such a great city – enjoy!

Reply

YAY! The time is near! I’ve always wanted to get one of those pillows, because I fly across the country lot to visit family in Florida from California. It sounds like you are ready to rumble, J! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Reply

I will look for you at the expo today! I will be the one beelining for the lobster launch shoes! Hope you are feeling better and def get a nap in today! You need to check out RunBase for all of us too!

I am looking forward to carb loading tonight for my 10k tomorrow! I always eat a really cheesy pasta dish and have some bread on the side.. YUM!

Reply

Your friend Megan is just the sweetest. And you’re totally gonna rock that marathon, lady. Best of luck to you!! After the marathon, how about you just keep on running over into New York so we can meet up? ;) xoxo

Reply

I haven’t tried Honey Stinger waffles yet but want to!
My nails are painted bright pink but I’m going to redo them blue in honor of Boston!
My favorite foods for carboloading are bagels and Chex cereal. Or really any cereal!
Have a safe flight!

Reply

Safe travels my dear! Go rock it! xoxo

Reply

Just wanted to say GOOD LUCK and have an amazing amazing race and Boston experience!!! I’ve been following your blog since I became a runner a year ago and I am so so excited for you!! :)

Reply

AHHHH GOOD LUCK!!! Prayers for you this weekend!!

Reply

Honey Stinger Waffles are the best. It’s a good thing they are not cheap, otherwise I would probably overindulge everyday. The honey and gingersnap are my favorites, but I’d eat them all.

My nails are not currently painted, but perhaps I should do something about that?

Typically before a race, I like to eat a small amount of pasta with a few meatballs. The perfect balance of carbs and proteins. I also try and eat Dungeness crab if it’s available.

Safe travels and have a wonderful time in Boston. Soak it all in!!!

Reply

Oh my gosh! I am so excited for you! You are living out my dream and I am going to send happy thoughts to you the whole day! I can’t wait to read your race recap! You got this lady!!!

Reply

That was such a sweet candy gift! Good luck at the race!! You’re going to rock it!

Reply

Reply

I love the color of that stonyfield shirt! And neck pillows really are the bees knees :)

So excited for you!!! :)

Reply

I am so excited for you this weekend! I plan on getting up crazy early Monday morning so that I can watch on TV :). My favorite thing about Friday is that it is simply Friday, time to relax on the weekend! This weekend I am looking forward to the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection to be released! My favorite food to carb load with the night before a race is cheese enchiladas. I don’t carb load too much, I love carb-y foods (who doesn’t?) but I don’t really go out of my way to carb load. My nails are currently painted pale pink (boring) but they are pretty chipped so I am planning on painting them today… Not sure what color yet though!

Reply

Safe travels and have fun out there! You’ll love the scream tunnel but the colleges in Newton provide loud support too.

Reply

Janae!! I only live an hour away from Boston and I wish more than anything I could make the drive this weekend to see you race (I am 8 months prego and my husband doesn’t want me to take the drive by myself due to me always getting way to stressed out with city driving and he has to work this weekend so he can’t bring me, insert really really sad face) !!! I have been reading your blog from the beginning and I know how much heart and soul you have put into training for Monday! You are going to ROCK it on Monday! I wish you nothing but the best of luck and will be cheering you on in spirit the whole way!!! Hope you enjoy the beautiful city of Boston and please come back so maybe some day we can meet up because even though we have never talked I feel like I have know you for years and would love to meet in person!! You are such an inspiration to all of us and we love you so much for your hard work and honestly!!!!!

Reply

I really need a mani/pedi! right about now. Have a wonderful time and enjoy every moment!! You are going to kick major butt on the course. I’ll be following along and cheering for you!!
I like to carbo load in moderation and not go too crazy. I like to eat my pasta meal at lunch the day before the race and a smaller dinner.
HAVE FUN!!!!

Reply

Best of luck!!! You are a rockstar….Run with Joy and Gratitude and don’t forget to celebrate the journey….:)

Reply

The food in this post is making me drool.

Such sweet notes from your friend. She’s right you will “kill it”. Enjoy!

No my nails are not painted … They are chewed down to stubs at the moment. So much stress in my life lately. :(

HAVE SO MUCH FUN IN BOSTON!
Good Luck!!!! And enjoy every single second!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good luck and have fun!!

Reply

I rarely paint my fingernails, but my toenails are blue in honor of Royals opening day last week!

GOOD LUCK !!!

Reply

I painted my nails for the marathon too! I also took the “accent nail” approach. The majority of my nails are purple and my ring fingers are white with orange polka dots to match the jacket :)

I hope you enjoy Boston this weekend! I’ll say hi if I bump into you at the expo or on the streets!

Reply

I’ve had amazing nail art done for 3 out of 4 of my marathons- they make you run better. FACT! GOOOD LUCK!

Reply

My favorite way to carb load is with bread…and pasta…and potatoes. Basically all carbs. I don’t discriminate!

Good luck on Monday! You can do hard things! :)

Reply

Ahhhh! I’m so excited for you! Boston baby! :-)

I love Honey Stinger waffles! I really like the strawberry one! I’ve only had it once; I got it at the WDW Marathon expo and it was yummy!

My toes are painted right now- a fun peach color. I can’t paint my fingers anything but clear because it’ll last an hour (if I’m lucky).

Reply

Enjoy every moment girl! And I love Meg’s candy idea….you’ll be thinking about that the entire run…YUMMY!!!

Reply

Good Luck in Boston!!!!

My go to carb load for the night before and morning of is plain pancakes. Its usually all I can handle because I’m so nervous!

You have good friends, such a blessing

Reply

Good luck, Janae! You’re going to be amazing.

Hmm, now I have to find the caramel honey stinger. Chocolate has been my fave so far.

My nails are naked, I cook a lot so I find they chip quickly.

Reply

Your first BOSTON! How exciting. Get lots of rest and can’t wait to see your updates.

Reply

Have a wonderful time in Boston!!! You’re going to rock it! Love the race tank and matching nails :) I painted my toenails crazy colors for Boston and I think it helped my running! Today my nails are coral and clear… boooooring.

I have never tried honey stingers but want to when I’m training for my next race. Can’t wait to hear how you do! I look forward to reading an epic race report!

Reply

Good luck at Boston! My Sis is running it to so I’ll be watching.

I love the way Brooke is your favorite date. My boys are 14 and 11 and still my favorite dates (after my hubby). I’ve love the fact I don’t have to eat alone and food is one thing they are always up for.

Reply

Watch out Boston! Here comes Janae!

Brooke’s hand on your knee in that picture gave me all the feels. I love it when my kids want to be close to me.

My nails couldn’t be uglier at the moment. They’re jagged, totally different lengths, and dirty. Other than that, they look great.

I’ll be sending you running mojo jojo on Monday!

Reply

Favorite honey stinger flavor is vanilla!! I’m so boring about my GU and stingers! Have a great flight!

Reply

Best of luck for a wonderful race day!! You will have lots of people there with you in spirit as you run.

Reply

You will kill it!

Reply

I don’t carb load much but when I do it’s with pizza (no cheese) or spaghetti.
Nails are currently this awesome blueish greenish color. I did gel polish so I’ll be attached to them for another week or so (as a result I picked a color I thought I could tolerate for a long time). I would have gone with purple (my fav color) but I decided to live on the “wild” side a bit ;)

Reply

Exciting weekend for you!!! GOOD LUCK!! Can’t wait to see all the times and to hear about BOSTON!!!!! You will ROCK IT!!!

My Friday favorite? The simple fact that it is FRIDAY!!! The fact that on Tuesday, I thought it was Thursday….yeah, long week! LOL! But it is all good!!! Going to try the waffle things you mentioned! Sound yummy!

Those neck pillows are lifesavers when I’m travelling. I took a blow up one to Europe the last time I went and it saved me from having an achy neck.

Carb loading is my favourite part of training…
