Time for my favorite things lately!

IMG 8575

-This latest post from Kara Goucher about her return to racing after metatarsal, sacral and pelvis stress fractures over the last twoish years.  Bookmarked this post.

I need other book recommendations, Janae! What else have you read lately? I loved “What Alice Forgot” that you talked about last year!

Reply

I have tons of book recommendations for you! I read all the time and people are always asking me for recommendations. Shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I can send you my current list! Happy running/reading :)

I LOVED The Invention of Wings. I literally read about 80 books a year, and this was my favorite of 2014 so far!

squash. I freaking love squash. And pumpkin pie of course.

Brooke looks like a total ninja in that headband. How adorable is she?

I love the Ellen show and shamelessly the Maury show too. Both are my guilty pleasures when I don’t have to work.

I’ve been having the hardest time commenting lately Janae. It’s been cutting me off several times. Not sure if it’s just me or a new code or something!

Reply

It’d be really great if they made Brooke’s PJs in adults sizes.

Loving Pumpkin Doughnuts this fall. I cannot get enough pumpkin this season, it’s really becoming an issue.

I aim for 60 minutes a day of exercise! Some days my body is done after 10, some days it could go 100.

Reply

I just finished If I Stay, if you like that, you have to read Where She Went as soon as you finish the first book. So, so good. I couldn’t put it down. I want to see the movie now, but I’m a little afraid that I’ll be disappointed because the book was so good.

Favorite fall food…nothing specific, I just like having warm, homey foods again that don’t sound as good during the summer months. And apples. I do love apples.

Favorite thing, other than that its Friday, that The Mindy Project is back. I love Mindy and Danny together. Least favorite thing, that I already watched the weeks Mindy and I have to wait for next week for a new one.

Happy Friday!

Marathon training means more than an hour a day 5 days a week. If I go to 6 days I burn out pretty quickly! I am very much into squash, pumpkin and apples! Love the fall :)

Reply

You just made me so happy wiht that apple fritter cake… i even have most of the ingredients already! yup, gonna need to make that sometime soon…

Reply

Lately I’ve been loving soup – butternut squash and potato soups. So delicious and perfect for fall! I’d say on average I exercise 30-60 minutes a day and I probably get 5 days a week in. Puppies are just the cutest things – although I recently saw a post about mini pigs and they are so stinking cute that I now want one!

Reply

i’m definitely sad that this is the last season of Parenthood- I love the show. I watched How To Get Away With Murder last night, and it was equal parts scary and fascinating!!

Reply

Favorite food- anything with pumpkin/squash or apples! Pumpkin is actually a great source of potassium, so I feel justified grabbing pumpkin bread after a run…

I try to exercise for about an hour a day, but longer run days are much more than that.

Reply

Hi chelsea, pumpkin has 340 mg of Potassium per 100g = about 7% RDA
But is also has 8513 IU of Vitamin A per 100g = about 284% (!) RDA, so it’s an amazing source of this vitamin!

I exercise an hour a day–but lately I have been sneaking in about another thirty minutes of weights and ab-work.

I love sweet potatoes and squash… I hate pumpkin! And I hate pie.
But I do love caramel–so I think I will make those caramel bars from AmericanHeritageCooking.com soon.

WHY IS PARENTHOOD ENDING. This makes me so sad. Although I am not a fan of Hank; I wish Sarah would get back together with the cute teacher (although I am biased because I am a teacher and wouldn’t mind a cute male English teacher to marry). And I adore Joel.. so I was sad when he got pushed away last night.
And Sarah’s son was missing! So sad. I like that character too.

Reply

I am also very sad about Parenthood, and I also am not Hank’s biggest fan…I hope she finds someone else, or maybe there’s a twist that she gets back together with Mark (fingers crossed)!

Reply

That Kara Goucher interview was inspirational, and SO relatable on so many levels. She was truly able to reach out to so many people all over the world. I definitely am trying to overcome this with Chicago coming up, especially as I get to stand on the start line with the best in the world, it is hard not to put all this pressure on, but all you can do is do the best you can right now, and your body will do the best it can. I run about 70 minutes on an easy day….so I guess that would be average!

Reply

I’m loving that fall tv is back and the cool, crisp mornings.

Reply

My favorite thing lately is FALL and thinking about Halloween!

Also, I’m doing a Pirate 5k tomorrow morning, so I get to dress up like a pirate and say things like “Yaaaarrrr, matey!”.

Reply

I’m excited for pitch perfect 2 too. One was good, but can #2 live up to it?

My favourite thing right now is the feeling i get from running first thing in the morning. I’ve been trying to make an effort to get out and run in the morning and im so glad I do because I feel light on my feet–something I haven’t experienced with running before.

Reply

Favorite thing right now: it’s been in the 60’s in the mornings…in Houston, that’s a big deal!
I work out 45-60minutes/ day on average (except rest days)
Favorite fall meal…can I just pick Thanksgiving? if not, then candy corn.

Reply

My least favorite thing at the moment is that Derek Jeter is retiring. Makes me sad and makes me feel old lol….I always believed strongly in the health benefits of 30 minutes a day of exercise. So good for the body and the brain! I average somewhere between 30-60 minutes aside from my long run of course.

Reply

That puppy is adorable!

Favorite thing: I adopted a bunny yesterday! He’s the cutest and I’m so excited to have him as part of the family. :)

Reply

I exercise about an hour a day, six days a week. On rest day 8 try to reach 10,000 steps a day. I am really enjoying the cooler weather right now. I want fall to truly hit so I can whip out my scarves. Also I am really excited I am starting to sign up for my raves next year :)

Reply

I’m with you on parenthood…so sad that it’s coming to an end:(
I probably exercise 1-2 hours a day with long runs around 3.
That apple fritter cake looks amazing!!! Happy Friday:)

Reply

Favorite Thing: All the mini-celebrations leading up to my birthday next month.
Least Favorite Thing: My kiddo hasn’t been sleeping the best this week so has been a bit of a Miss Crabbypants.
My workouts are generally about an hour, 5 days a week.

Reply

They’re making a Pitch Perfect 2?! Guess that’s my favorite thing for this morning!
I exercise about an hour, 4-5 days a week. I kind of have to disagree with that info graphic a little bit. Whenever I’m upset or mad, the first thing I want to do is grab my shoes and go run!
I have to admit, my favorite fall food/drink is the Pumpkin Spice Latte. No judgement please :)

Reply

Friday favourite = it is cool enough to wear big comfy scarves this week!
I usually workout between 60-120 minutes per day, unless it is a super easy day and I’ll go for a short walk, or a long run day and it could be more than 2 hours!

TGIF!

Reply

Including all of my walking, I probably exercise for at least 2 hours per day! It seriously makes me feel great and I’m going to have to click over and check out that entire infograph!

Reply

I pinned that cake and am so going to make it, thanks for sharing!

I am also very upset that this season is going to be the last season of Parenthood. I had no idea they were ending it until I saw the previews the other day :(

Reply

Buzzfeed video? I definitely need to check that out! I’m living my hew Jaybird bluwtooth headphones tecmensed by you of course!

Reply

Your least favorite thing is also my least favorite thing….I love Parenthood so much :(

Reply

My favorite thing lately….our Thanksgiving Point Pass! Seriously, any mommies living in the area HAVE to get one! I am super mom when I takes kids there! What, you want to ride ponies this morning? Sure!!! Let’s hop in the car! Hahaha! It’s like a kid’s dream over there! Least favorite thing lately…it is getting harder and harder to find good peaches.

Reply

I know that exercise is the best (and sometimes only!) way to improve my mood, it’s just so hard to get yourself out of the door when you’re feeling less than ideal!
That apple fritter cake looks amazing, I really really need to start learning how to bake.

Reply

My favorite thing lately is SoBe Lifewater Pacific Coconut! It is so refreshing after a run and first thing in the morning and all the time :)
On average I workout about an hour a day around 4 days a week. I’m going to be scaling that back after my half marathon tomorrow though. Just strength training for a week :?
Favorite fall food=PUMPKIN EVERYTHING! I also love apples.

Reply

Pitch Perfect & Pitch Perfect 2 were filmed in Baton Rouge (where I live) and all over LSU’s campus! Have a great weekend!

Reply

Animal crackers are my favorite!! Happy Friday!

Reply

I love Debra Messing so I’m excited she’s back on t.v. but her new show is pretty awful (in my opinion). I want her to be on a good show again! Will and Grace was awesome.

I have yet to make it through an episode of Parenthood without crying at some point (and I never cry at t.v. shows). Looking forward to the new season! I enjoy watching it but all shows definitely have an expiration date and I agree with this being the last season. Some shows linger on past their due date.

Reply

Jealous that your splash pads are still open! My 3 year old was livid when ours closed for the year haha.
Pumpkin pie is definitely a fall favorite! And Honey crisp apples!

Reply

I saw this recipe for apple fritters this morning and totally thought of you!

How funny, I just saw that apple fritter cake on Pinterest and I was going to send you the link :) I cannot wait for Pitch Perfect 2!! Favourite thing right now is probably that’s Friday, this week felt like the longest school week ever! Least favourite thing, is I can’t find Ellen anywhere on my tv here (in England) and I’m super jealous you got to see it when they spoke about Pitch Perfect ;)

Reply

What a great idea to color white pumpkins!! My daughter will love that! I haven’t decorated yet but love all things fall…pumpkin roll!
It’s still 70s here I’m ready for 60s. Whoa is me poor California girl lol

For the past couple days it has been raining – and I’ve been loving it! Nothing like going for a run in the rain, coming home to a warm bath, and then wrapping up in a blanket while doing some work from the comfort of my couch.

It depends on what I am training for and what season it is, but typically I exercise 30-60 minutes a day (on average). During the summer those numbers go up, particularly when I am training for an endurance triathlon.

One of my favorite fall meals is turkey taco soup/chili.

Reply

I LOOOVED that book, one of my very favorites EVERRRRR
Enjoy!
Fall: Chili, cornbread, pumpkin ANYTHING

Reply

My workouts are about an hour, 6 days per week.
Fav fall foods…Soup, chili…tea
I will have to grab that book! Thanks for the tip!

Reply

HOLY COW. I jsut FREAKED over the apple fritter cake! I have to make it!! My favorite fall recipe up until now was an apple dump cake, I just love apple more than pumpkin!

My favorite is that I’m currently in Bend, OR visiting my best friend and I LOVE it here. Seriously need to move.

Reply

I exercise 1-2 hrs 5x week.

I love stew and homemade bread in the fall.
I have not mastered bread making yet.

I watched “Forever” this week. I like the forensic science shows. I can’t decide if I love it or not. I couldn’t stand “Mysteries of Laura.” I still need to watch the Modern Family premiere.

I’m excited to hear about your trip. Then I can use some of your ideas for our trip. I always get a giant chocolate chip cookie.

Reply

I’d have to agree that Parenthood ending is also my least favorite thing right now. I love that show. :(

Favorite thing right now is a tie between the roasted red pepper and tomato soup I’ve been eating for lunch every day, and all the candy I’ve been eating to nutritionally counteract it.

My daily workouts are usually only a half hour. I need them to be earlier, but I go before work with friends, and they’re not willing to get up earlier. So I feel like I need to choose between working out with friends and getting a longer workout in. Right now I’ve been leaning toward working out with friends.

Reply

“If I Stay” is next on my reading list!!! Glad to hear you are enjoying it!

Reply

Eating anything in the grass makes it 10x better! I generally exercise about an hour, 5x per week, but its slightly less now that I have to take some time off running! Boo :(
MOST favourite thing: layering/sweater/acceptable to have a caffeine IV weather
LEASE favourite thing: knee injury flaring up = running break.

Reply

Favourite thing: a perfect shot of espresso. Least favourite: the cat hair currently accumulating my home.

I workout everyday – keeps me focused and energized. Most days I run/spin/ yoga (1.5 hrs). But on blah days, I have a minimum 1/2 hr. The spin bike lives in my home and I work at home, so I have ZERO reason to not do something. Plus I know that I feel better when I do. And I am in a Fitbit competition with my mom so gotta log those activities.

Have you seen this: http://thinkin-bout-you.blogspot.ca/2012/09/damn-i-regret-that-workout-said-no-one.html

I LOVE that inforgraphic. Just faved the site to keep checking back, good stuff.

Favorite Fallish meal/food is a Baked Mess (random collection of squashes, mushroom, cauliflower, onion, zucchini, whole garlic with chickpeas and pistachios thrown in near the end with truffle oil all over it. mmmmm).

Reply

BAHAHAH love that card! Thanks for sharing Robyn. Ummmm I want some Baked Mess!

Reply

I’m all about chili in the fall. And Apple pie!

OMG I love everything about fall I could never pick just one!!! I’m like Buddy the Elf is to Santa as Amy is to Fall. #dork

Gahhhh I KNOW… So sad it’s the last season of Parenthood, right?! When I watched the episode last night, I thought “How am I ever going to survive without Parenthood after this season?!” haha, maybe a little dramatic, but I just love it.

Reply

I cried throughout the entire episode of Parenthood yesterday HAHA! So sad that this is the last season :(

Thank you for sharing that awesome infographic! I need to share it with all my friends because it has really important info on it! I usually exercise between 3 and 4 times per week!

Reply

Looove getting pumpkin spice lattes from coffee shops during the fall :)
I also love trying pumpkin-flavored anything.

Reply

I try to do at least 30 minutes each day. Usually more. I just feel better when I do. I can’t wait for Pitch Perfect 2!! The first one was so good!

Reply

Wow, I had no idea Kara Goucher suffered from so many injuries in such a short span of time.

I think I am going to get into the fall spirit and make some gluten free pumpkin cookies tonight. This is the first year I have been GF and while I feel so much better physically, it is killing me to see all of this fall recipes and not be able to indulge!

Reply

Soooooo I will also be making that apple fritter cake this weekend, it looks way too good! I’ll tell you how it turns out…

Reply

i’m going apple picking tomorrow so i’m probably going to start making apple crisp. It’s my favorite thing to make and eat in the fall. That, along with chili and stews made in the crock pot. And parsnips and sweet potato “fries”.

Favorite thing is being home today and enjoying some solitude. Been a crazy last 10 days and i need to Zen out.

Reply

Hadn’t thought about it before, but if I add up my Pure Barre classes and training runs, I spend well over an hour a day exercising on average!

Reply

My least favorite thing is not being able to participate in a half-marathon I had planned tomorrow because of emergency appendix surgery this week! I will never ever take my health for granted again!!!
Favorite is I think I will be well enough to attend the Katy Perry concert on Monday that I’ve had planed for almost a year!
Love all fall food… best time of year! Will definitely be making the apple fritter cake!

Reply

I am so so sorry about your emergency surgery! I hope you are recovering asap and have so much fun at the concert!

Reply

Depends on whether I’m training for something, but I generally do about 45 min 5 days a week, give or take. It’d be more if I could force myself to do strength training, but I have NOT learned to love that.

I love all fall foods. All of them.

Reply

I’m so sad that this is the last season of Parenthood too! BUT I am so excited that it finally started :) That puppy is adorable!!

Reply

Ooh, favorite thing lately would definitely be the weather! I love summer, but these breezy cool days have allowed me to arrive to some places NOT drenched in sweat and for that I am very grateful!

I typically shoot for an hour a day. If I run a little shorter, I try to do some extra core work or something. If I’m doing strength stuff, sometimes I call it a day at 40 minutes if they were very intense minutes. But I use an hour as my general guideline and goal.

Favorite fall food: Oatmeal! I don’t eat it in the summer because it’s just too hot but now I want it every morning. I’ve got to start trying those crock pot oats I’ve heard so much about!

Reply

My favorite thing this week is the new pair of running shoes I just got. They are amazing and I get compliments on them all the time! Not to mention they are super comfortable!

Reply

Most favorite thing: my kids got out of school extra early today! We got to have lunch together!!!
Least favorite thing: It’s still a long time until summer vacation. Boo.
When life is normal I try for 40-50 minutes of exercise. However, life is currently revolving around a colicky newborn. So, does constantly carrying the baby count as exercise? Because my arms are getting a great workout! :)
Fresh fall produce is the best! Peaches, apples, plums. I can’t seem to get enough.

Reply

I’m watching last night’s episode of parenthood right now {since I can’t stay up for it ever!!} LOVE!

Reply

Buffalo wild wings sauce on fried egg sandwiches.

I never thought I would say this but your post totally ruined my day… How can it be the last season of Parenthood?? I need the Bravermans in my life!

Reply

Must get that t-shirt! I’ll be dreading Veyo hill until I hit the top.

Reply

My favorite thing has been this beautiful summer like weather we are having in Colorado and my (slow) return to running! Least favorite is my massage therapist telling me my trap muscle was so knotted she could she it under my skin (what?!?). I work out about an hour each day — cardio, weights, yoga and I take 1-2 rest days per week. Favorite fall food is pumpkin bread.

Reply

If I stay is GOOD! You need to read the follow up too, where she went. I might have liked it even more :)

Reply

First of all I LOVE Pitch Perfect; LOVE LOVE If I stay (can’t wait to see the movie); and LOVE LOVE LOVE the quote you posted…“I may not be where I want to be, but I am so grateful to be here at all”

Least favorite thing right now…having to go into work on the weekends (but I have a job while many don’t so I’m grateful for that…still sucks but I’m grateful)

Reply

My favorite thing lately is that I can finally do a chin up! I’m getting stronger :)

I generally get 40-60 minutes of exercise most days. Some end up being a little more, some a little less.

My favorite fall food is probably roasted veggies of all kinds. And pie. And cider. Oh man, now I’m hungry!

Reply

THANKS TO YOU I just made the apple fritter cake and it looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But just to let you know, after you add the glaze to the cake, put the cake back in the oven for another 5 minutes and it comes out even better!

Sweet potatoes. I love them. And pumpkin all year round. So good.

I plan to exercise 6 days a week and am thrilled if I get four thanks to migraines, etc.

I’m still watching Parenthood. Eventually I’ll finish it. ;)

Thanks to you and your commenters for some good book suggestions. I’m always looking for a new read.
