Saturday highlights and 2 LOWlights.

Let’s start with the highlights and then we will end with the lowlights.

-Waking up and feeling pretty darn good the day after running 18 miles.  I feel strong and ready to keep moving forward with this whole marathon training thing.

-Spending the afternoon with my soul sister.

IMG 6821

-GEL NAILS.  These just make me happy and it has been way too long since the last time I went and got them.

IMG 6812

-Finally hanging up some things on Brooke’s walls.

 IMG 6826

-Hanging out with Brooke in the grass while she runs around and I look at catalogs and pray that this gorgeous coat will go on an 85% off sale soon.

IMG 6822

-Making oatmeal raisin cookies for a friend that loves cookies but doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies (I know, it doesn’t make sense to me either).  I am happy about this situation because it reminded me of how incredible oatmeal raisin cookies taste.  Seriously.  They are winners and I don’t think there is anything that makes your house smell better than these cookies.

IMG 6825

-Watching Brooke blow on all of her food for about 2 minutes before she eats it (ever since she had her birthday and loved blowing her candles out she feels the need to pretend she has candles on all of her meals).

Time for the two lowlights:

1.  Finding out my brother-in-law wastes money on bags of black licorice assortment candies.

‘Seek first to understand, then to be understood’—>  this principle does NOT apply to situations like people enjoying black licorice.

IMG 6803

2.  That is actual snow in our mountains.  It is August.  Not right on any level.

One thing I really want to do is decorate the walls of my house. I feel like we live here but it’s such a boring house. We have been looking for things though. By we, I mean me. I’ll probably just paint. I like the wall art you’ve got going on in Brooke’s room,

Highlight of my week was hanging out with a friend. Low was deciding to completely nix a fall marathon.

Highlight—my best friends wedding shower was yesterday and it was SO MUCH FUN!!! I’m super excited for the wedding!!

Saturday highlights- awesome morning run, playing in the park with my son and big family dinner. Low light- my son doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies either.

So cute about Brooke!!

Highlight was spending the weekend with my in-laws in TN! We had a beauitful mountain view from our cabin (I would love to have the views you have!) And we spent the day horse back riding, white water rafting, and trying the Blob for the first time ever! The low light: there was no running water at our cabin once we got back from all that adventure. Yeah… no showers or anything. im shuddering just typing that!

I am also greatly offended by black licorice.

I will totally trade you weather!!! It is in the upper 90s here with crazy humidity. I am dreaming of fall, winter and snow! I’m also looking forward to those seasons because I’m pregnant and my baby will be here in December :)

My Saturday highlight–having my husbands family over (like 12 people) for his birthday dinner and eating a yummy recipe I made. Lowlight–our house getting up to 76*, our AC was not doing a good job keeping us cool :)

Lowlights -> seeing Xmas trees at Sam’s Club yesterday as much as I love Christmas, I’m not ready for summer to end.
I’m feeling very sad right now dealing with compartment syndrome. I’ve been injured since January and I just want myself back.

She doesn’t like Chocolate Chip Cookies?? I didn’t even know that was possible!! ;)

I know you have mentioned it before – but where in the world do you get those adorable head wraps for Brooke? I have a 7 month old daughter (and 4 year old son…he didn’t wear bows!) and am looking for the wider strapped head bands…like Brooke wears!
Thanks! And way to go on the 18 miles! You are so inspiring.

Reply

I LOVE Brooke’s wall hangings!!!!!!
Highlight from Sat is that I got my 18 mile run done too and I am pretty happy with it!!! I also got my house pretty clean
Lows…I really don’t have any other than I had a bunch of paperwork I was going to do yesterday and I did almost none of it so now I am stuck doing it today :)

I’m loving how Brooke blows on all of her food now thinking it should have candles! Too cute.

Highlight – went to an awesome seminar on how to move naturally AND had a beach day!
Lowlight – seeing pumpkin-everything in all the stores…not readyyy

Reply

I love gel manicures and got one on Friday- I try not to get them too often because they are expensive and I think my make my nails weaker but it is so worth it when they last a long time. A highlight from my weekend was seeing a bunch of my high school friends! Also getting starbucks twice after going weeks without it! A lowlight was being in a super crowded and loud bar and staying up way past my bedtime:)

Reply

Highlights: Running my first mile race! I think I have done almost every other distance, but never a mile! (and apparently marathoners are just not ultra speedy hahaha)
Lowlights: I stayed up way too late and have a long run today. Now that’s a first world problem if there ever was one!!!

Reply

Lowlight: it didn’t stop raining ONCE from 7 am – 3 pm. Otherwise it was as pretty good day! Long run, garage sale, and pizza!

Reply

I happen to love the black jelly beans, black chuckles and the flavor of black licorice! Even as a kid when I was the pickiest eater, I always wanted the black jelly beans.

Reply

Oh yuck black licorice! I can’t do fennel either. Gel nails are the best though :)

Reply

Highlight is being in Arizona. I’m loving the sun and really warm weather. Didn’t really have a lowlight!

Reply

Low is I didn’t get my long run in…

High I had a blast with my family during the day then a new friend at night :)

Reply

Highlight: going back-to-school shopping with my Girlie.
Lowlight: It was really feeling like fall and I’m just not ready for summer to end.

Reply

We got snow in the mountains here in Alberta too this week. Even though I know winter will be here too early, it’s hard to think about snow in August!

Reply

I love black licorice. LOVE IT. I don’t buy it often because I will eat all of it in one sitting and then be sick to my stomach. I’m glad few people like it…more for me ;)

My highlight for yesterday is that I survived in 11 mile hill run at the heat of the day. My lowlight is I went for an 11 mile hill run at the heat of the day lol

Reply

Highlight: Golfing with the whole family for a fundraiser for my son’s college baseball team. And letting my 13 and 11 year olds ride on the back of the painfully slow golf carts. Not my parenting highlight but to them it probably was.
Lowlight: Forgot sunscreen and my neck and shoulders are fried. Yup, when will I learn? Still an awesome day with everyone!
Snow is so wrong in August!!

Reply

I love gel nails, too, but I try not to get them too often because I don’t want to expose my hands to a bunch of UV light. Highlight from my Saturday: I got free lunch at work. Lowlight: my neighbors were having a huge, loud party last night which made it tough to get to sleep. Don’t they know I get up before dawn to run? :)

Reply

Brooke blowing out the “candles” on all her food?! That is too cute. Highlight from the weekend? After a hard workout yesterday, I had a post-workout PB+B smoothie at my friends place, followed by some chatting in the hot tub. My muscles felt so relaxed afterwards!

Reply

Highlight: Grocery shopping, so now I have food. (And I went to Winco, which is hands down the best thing ever, esp the bulk bins. Even if they do sell that evil black licorice candy. Nasty.)
Lowlight: Lackluster workout…but at least I managed to do enough handstand pushups to wake up really sore this morning!

Happy Sunday!!

Reply

Haha, those aren’t such bad lowlights, got worried there!
Highlight: Family bought fresh soda bread this morning, win! :D
Lowlight: Went out last night until too late o’clock. That’s all I have to say. Gah.

Reply

We had “snow” on the peaks a few days ago ~ turns out it was HAIL! That’s a LOT of hail!!

Reply

Highlight…doing my 20 mile run for my marathon training and this time feeling the best I’ve ever felt doing it. I was actually smiling at mile 19!! It was one of those days that everything went right!
Celebrating the last weekend before school watching a movie with my girls and stuffing ourselves silly with popcorn and candy! I was so happy I got to eat my peanut m&m’s!!

Lowlight…not getting a long enough ice bath and shower after my run because I had to head out fast to go to my daughter’s soccer opening ceremonies. Whenever I do a long run I take forever in the shower and just relax!

Reply

My Saturday highlight was to go to the Spa!

Reply

Well, my low-light is having a nasty head cold. The double whammy is that I feel sick, but also super cranky because work made me sick. I’ve had two crazy busy weeks at work, and ran my a$s off, and ended up so run down and tired that I got sick. :(

Highlights: I had en epiphany that I’m not sacrificing myself for work anymore (gotta take care of mama first!). Also, took the kids to a street fair and Boomers yesterday, so I saw lots and lots of giggles on bouncy slides and a crazy bouncy-harness-flip thing and lots of arcade games. Seriously, their giggles just make everything better :)

Love the wall art in Brooke’s bedroom!! Did you buy that? Or is it homemade?

Have a great Sunday!!

Reply

Highlight – celebrating my friend’s birthday last night at an amazing party!
Lowlight – TN heat and humidity. It is HOT!

Reply

I love the You Are My Sunshine prints; where did you find them?

Reply

Trevor loves black licorice and it drives me crazy! He would get along very well with him in their BYU shirts! And way to go for doing 18 miles yesterday and feeling good after! My 20 miles yesterday (which yes there was snow!) was good and tough but I felt really good after and today I’m a little sore but feeling so much better about the whole marathon thing too! :) Way better than Utah Valley Marathon was for us with injuries!! Can’t wait to party in St. George with you!! And I love the picture of Brooke blowing on her food! She’s my favorite!

Reply

Highlight watching both my sons win their soccer games and one of my sons make a goal.
Lowlight a weird cut from running 10 miles on my toe.

Reply

Snow is a highlight for me…ski season is coming!

Lowlight: spending 4+ hours in a car today on one of the few warm days this summer in central new york :(

I will pray for a Jcrew coat sale! That is very important. God cares about the desires of our heart! :)
Highlight was my 13.1 marathon training miles on Saturday. LowLight is lots of laundry and packing today for work travel this week!

Reply

My highlight is going for a run yesterday that felt great and my lowlight is switching back and forth from night shift to day shift.

Reply

Please let me know when that coat goes on 85% sale ;) So beautiful! Things like that make me glad to see snow in the mountains. :)

Reply

Oh man, I am SO jealous of your snow. I just moved to the southeast after living way up north for most of my life and the heat and humidity is slowly killing me. Highlight: first weekish of my PhD program is complete – only 4 more years to go, hah! Lowlight: I came down with a massive summer cold this weekend. :(

Reply

Highlight: movies with my family
Lowlight: having to wait 10 minutes for my soup to cool down at the restaurant. It was served in rock bowls and wouldn’t stop boiling (seriously)! But it was worth it, yum!
I have a question about the links you’re posting more and more often. Why not just put a picture of the coat? Do the clicks you get give you a discount on it or something? It would be much easier to read if you put a picture of the actual coat on your blog!

Reply

Highlight: I worked a 24 hour shift and not one person in the zone/region I cover called 911. Which you think is nice because it means no one was hurt or sick. But really it’s a highlight of my saturday because it means I never had to leave the fire station and do real work.

Lowlight: I think my salad dressing I used for lunch was old. It didn’t taste quite right. Strange.

PS: I also loathe the flavor of black licorice! I always give my dad the black jelly beans.

Reply

Highlight – even though my birthday was back on Aug. 4th I get to celebrate it again tonight with some people who were out of town :)

Lowlight – I am on a down week and didn’t have a long run yesterday…. my day felt so weird and last night I even dreamed about getting to do a long run!!!

Reply

Just think how good the snowpack will be for the water table!

Reply

Highlight – leaving for my first true vacation in ~5 years!!!! Jumping in the ocean waves with my son…short run along the beach this morning!!! Do not want to think about any lowlights right now.

Reply

Highlight: Running into old friends from my high school youth group while at Walt Disney World yesterday!

Reply

Hahaha I’d have to side with your bro-in-law on this one: I LOVE black licorice!!! :)

xo

Reply

GACK. Black licorice is seriously medicinal :(

Highlight…my little girl made a new friend! Low…looking at the mountain of laundry that needs folding :(. It’s nice to have inconsequential lows.

Reply

Highlight: pumpkin beer
Lowlight: rain (and snow in our mountains too) all weekend and I need to get a 12 miler in. Still…. That is today’s lowlight as well.

I love Brooke’s bedroom art. I sang that song to my kids almost every night when they were little enough to appreciate songs at bedtime.

Hi Janae,

I just wanted to let you know (in case you don’t), Revlon just came out with gel nail polish and I really like it. You choose the gel nail color and then apply the special gel top coat. It comes off with regular remover and it really makes your nails strong. It’s not exactly like the gel nails from the salon but definitely worth it….close enough I think. I just hate spending the money on a regular basis and don’t really have time to get them done. Try it out! xo, Jess

Reply

Highlight: week 3 of marathon training is in the books, AND I celebrated my 5 year anniversary

Lowlight: I didn’t get my Sunday afternoon nap today. It was tragic.

Reply

I have to admit, I was a little worried your lowlights were something reallybad but I’m relieved that it wasn’t bad news. I agree about the black licorice though. Although I always think the kind he chose are so pretty, but I would never eat them. EWWWW!
my bro in law posted a pic of that snow on fb today. It’s funny that u pointed it out too. (Snow in august would be really weird in Ca, where I live)
Brooke’s profile in her dinner picture is so darn cute. She has such a sweet little face.
Today for cookie sunday, I made your brothers awesome smores bars but my husband decided he wanted to try them with an oreo crust (s’moreo’s anyone?)instead of the graham crackers. They were good but I still prefer your original recipe with the graham cracker crust. In fact, out of all the things I’ve pinned, people pin the smores bars recipe from your website the most. Hello, new readers ;)

Highlight: Got in a GREAT hour-long bike/run workout. It’s been forever since I was out on my bike!

Lowlight: I really should’ve gone into my classroom to work this weekend but I blew it off to spend one last low-key weekend with my family before school craziness starts. I’ll be scrambling on Monday but I think it was worth it.

Reply

EWWWWWWWWWWWW black licorice is one of the few things in the world that I don’t like. Ick.

Reply

Highlight: I finished another half marathon on Saturday – Lowlight: I had food poisoning that day too so my time was terrible. Oh well!!

lowlight-a super sunburnt forehead that will soon peel right off. who needs their forehead anyways…

Reply

Not just from Saturday, but the whole weekend:
Highlights: getting to spend the day on Saturday with my niece. They live over an hour away and I don’t often have an entire free weekend, so I drove up, took her shopping (her birthday is in a couple weeks), we went to Olive Garden (she loves it!) and then went to the movies.
Lowlight: the crazy earthquake that rocked our world early Sunday morning. Then a giant raccoon came into our house through the doggy door because he felt like an early breakfast and washing his face and moving around things in our kitchen. Then I broke my baby toe, and I have Ragnar Napa in less than 4 weeks, so I really hope it’s all healed up by then!

Reply

Aren’t gel nails the BEST!!!!! I get gel all the time and it has changed my life!!! I will never go back to regular polish!!
I turned 30 on Fri so my hubby planned a big surprise party for me on Sat and my parents came from CT to surprise me!!! He rented a boat and had our family and closest friends help me ring in 30!!!!!!!

Reply

I love the wall art for Brooke, too cute! And sorry, but a Lowlight is Oatmeal Raisin – Chocolate chip all the way!! haha.

Reply

My husband is a hard core chocolate lover and always has cookie dough in the fridge, (our daughter gave him a cookbook for raw cookie dough) and at times I ask for oatmeal raisin cookies, he uses raisinettes in place of raisins so he can still keep that chocolate flavor ;)
