You know your mother loves you when…

There is just something so great about going out in the middle of the day with your sister and Brooke for a nice long walk.  We are taking full advantage of the great weather we are having this week.

I know it looks like Brooke isn’t excited but I think deep down she really was.

IMG 3660

This is how I know my mother loves me.  She brought home a huge bag of broccoli for me.  My mom despises broccoli… the smell, taste… everything.  The fact that she brought it home for me because I love it so much shows the unconditional love that she has for me.

IMG 3656

Brooke and I went walking around the outdoor mall and got excited because they were putting up all of their Christmas lights.  I bought a workout tank because I no longer wear real clothes (did I ever?) and need a wide variety of workout gear.

IMG 3667

Once Brooke was fast asleep I picked up my date for a Zumba class.  Running will always be my true love but to sum things up… I love all forms of exercise (except for weight lifting on my own).

IMG 3676

And afterwards we went through the Subway drive-thru for the good stuff.  We got there one minute before it closed.  That could have been a disaster if we were any later.

IMG 3674

And guess what I’m doing this morning?  Trying to get back into spin shape and going to a spin class so that I can start teaching again.  It has been too long since I have been up in front of a spin class playing some sweet jams and yelling at them to go faster.

Congratulations on that sweet award! I don’t really like swimming, unless it’s just for fun. Although I’d love to compete in a triathlon one day, so I should probably get over that! I like most veggies… but I despise turnip and parsnip – gross!

Reply

I do not like spinning. LOLZ anything and everything cycling…though I would come to your class because I think it would be fun. I used to teach step aerobics way back a few years ago which I loved. I would love to get a job doing that again. I hope you are able to start teaching spin again, how awesome would that be?

This is super random but that blue jacket in your photo looks so good on you. It’s definitely your color.

I used to hate mushrooms a lot but have decided I like them. The only vegetables I don’t care for are cucumbers (and pickles). Carrots aren’t my favorite but I don’t hate them…and anything is okay with enough salad dressing.

Reply

I would love to take a spin class from you. I feel like it would be so much fun and full of energy. With the best music. My favorite classes besides running are Zumba hot yoga and spinning, actually. I don’t do anything besides running and yoga when I’m at school but I join a gym when I’m home to mix things up a bit. And workout clothes are a true addiction. I have 4 drawers out of six in my closet for them and they still don’t all fit.

Reply

Yay for making the list!!! Well deserved :).

I like all types of exercise…I think…

Beets! I just can’t like them.

Reply

I cant eat beets. I love all things purple except for beets…

Reply

I love spin but have not been in months… I should change that. I love all veggies but can only handle certain ones cooked, I prefer almost all veggies raw.

Reply

Can you post a spin play list? Yours are the best!

Reply

I really wish I could live in workout gear…or my pajamas. This whole dressing nice for work thing is ridiculous. :)

Congrats on the award. Well deserved!

Reply

Congrats on making the list; that’s quite a coup!
How was Zumba? That is the one type of exercise I don’t like. I have zero coordination to make it a workout!
I don’t know if it’s considered a vegetable but I don’t like sweet potatoes. I probably shouldn’t be allowed to blog because of that fact!

Reply

Ones where there is equipment involved……..

………….and I have not met a vegetable that I don’t like.

Reply

Congrats janae! And just for the record Brooke looks a lot like you in that stroller picture :) I despise swimming. You can’t talk, you can’t breathe, and there’s no scenery!

Reply

Congrats on making that list! Well deserved-you are certainly my favorite blogger!
I love all types of veggies, but I think broccoli is my least favorite. Of course it’s my sons favorite so I still make it all the time :) I don’t think I’ve done any type of exercise yet that I don’t like, but there are several I’m not good at- like Zumba because I’m clumsy and uncoordinated-ha!

Reply

Strength training is the bane of my existence — especially in the beginning when my muscles are still weaklings and even using 5 lb weights feels like a lot for my chicken arms ;) As for veggies? I can’t do zucchini, eggplant, or kale… and asparagus just intimidates me.

Congrats on making the list, girl!

Reply

I am not a huge spinner. I only did it once, but I just wasn’t a fan. Veggies- it’s more what do I like! I really only like cooked veggies, or broccoli. More than that and I struggle! I understand lifting on your own is a struggle.. it used to be for me, too, but now I fully embrace it :) I saw you made the list yesterday and I was so excited for you!! Such a great moment :)

Reply

The elliptical and me are not really friends at the moment. Probably because I used to own one and I totally used it wayyy to much.
Also yoga.
I teach pilates which is fun!
I’ve only been teaching for about 6 months now, and I’m subbing but it’s nice to add to the work repertoire.

Reply

I’ve never done a work out and thought “I HATED THAT” but I am also terrified to try any jumpy hoppy zumba thing. I like the functional movement classes at equinox but other than that I only do yoga and pilates classes.

I love all vegetables equally.

Reply

Honestly I have had a hard time getting into spinning. I have tried over and over but I am just NOT good at it and it gets so boring to me! I keep trying so maybe one day I will get into it :)

Reply

Congratulations on the award! Well deserved :)

I don’t like Zumba or other exercises that require lots of coordination, by the time I figure out what the instructor is doing they have moved on and I don’t get a good workout.

Reply

I saw that you made the list–rock on!! I would so take a spin class even though my bum hurts for days after a 60min cycling session.. it’d be worth it.

Lately the only thing I’m NOT digging is running-but working through it cause I think deep down I want to log some miles :)

Reply

I am not the biggest weight room fan- I much prefer running, spinning and yoga…
I haven’t met a veggie I didn’t like!!

Reply

Congratulations on the Making a Difference list! You are truly inspiring and the amount of people you reach and motivate is amazing. Thank you!

Reply

I’m not really a huge fan of parsnips, turnips and eggplant, but I’ll eat just about anything, especially if it’s healthy.

I don’t mind lifting weights, but you’re right, it’s much more motivating to do it in a group.

Reply

I am not a fan of swimming! I love veggies…but I like them pretty much plain (I put coconut oil on them), when you put them in a cassarole then I really don’t like them.

Reply

I’m having a real hard time thinking of an exercise I don’t like. But I know I wouldn’t like exercise classes haha I’m weird and like to keep my workouts by myself. Love veggies!! I use to hate asparagus, but my boyfriend made me eat some because I’m always making him eat tomatoes (he hates those), and they actually aren’t bad :).

Reply

Congrats on the award, you deserve it!!! Back to the questions…I am not a fan of Lima beans!!

Reply

Congratulations on the award! I am not a fan of exercise classes, I like working out by myself, unless it is running! I am not a fan of sweet potatoes. I try I really do try but I am not a fan!

Reply

I pretty much like all exercise when I’m with people, by myself – eh. I cannot stand eggplant. Eww! I have often thought I would like to teach yoga. Maybe I will look into that after I finish my master’s :)

Reply

Congrats on making the list! You deserve it! I love taking spin class and having been going for about 2 years now. I think it may be time to invest in some spin shoes. Do you have any suggestions on how to pick a pair out, or a brand? Preferably on the less expensive side, since this is just a fun hobby for me. Thanks!

Reply

I don’t like any kind of dance fitness classes, but everything else is fair game.

I can’t stomach cooked spinach.

I teach Group Power (aka Body Pump) at night…I’ve been teaching since 2007 and I LOVE it!

Congrats on making the list, you are awesome!

Reply

Congratulations, Janae!!! Running, zumba, & lifting weights are my favorite. But I don’t think there are any I don’t like. I could pass on step though. Zumba really doesn’t feel like a workout. I think that’s why I love it. I don’t think there are any veggies I don’t like. I’m not a big eggplant or beets person.
Have a great day!

Reply

I can’t handle mushrooms. If they’re in really small pieces, like on a pizza, it’s ok, but actually biting into one? Blech. :)

Reply

Congrats on making the list! I like most types of exercise, but really dislike the elliptical (does that count?), also I’m not really coordinated enough to do team sports. I like most veggies, and am always willing to try them if I haven’t had them before, but I really dislike (most) raw veggies. My salads are always lettuce topped with cooked veggies. Odd I know, but better than no veggies?

Reply

Workouts I do not like… any type of step, dance, zumba classes. I just can’t get into it. Have a great workout at spin! :)

Reply

Congrats on the list! Your posts make me happy everyday!

Reply

I cannot imagine you being a mean, yelling spin instructor! I bet you are one of the supportive ones who tells your class to have fun and encourages them! That’s the only kind I can handle!

Veggies I don’t like – peas! Ew!

Reply

I like most vegetables if they are cooked with enough butter and cheese. The only ones I like to eat by themselves are peppers and cucumbers, though.

I’ll do any kind of group exercise, but on my own, I’ll really only run.

Good luck getting back into spin!!

Reply

Hi Janae!!

Just checking in to say- i LOVE weight lifting! i know, I’m strange. and yoga! I’m actually signed up for a yoga bootcamp on saturday morning! I’m pumped!

i LOVE broccoli but only steamed. lucky you for the nice weather!

I wanted to say congratulations on your award!! You seriously deserve it, I re-read your posts so many times I need a pick-me-up. Body image, fitness, food, getting back on track, balance, everything. Like right now, I’m about to take a very hard midterm which I have been studying my lil hiney off for. positive vibes are appreciated!

Reply

Swimming for exercise and okra.

*GAAAAGGGGGGGG*

Reply

swimming….wish I could change that— would love to do an ironman some day. I hate peas!!! I will eat pretty much any vegetable but peas.

Reply

Congrats! :)

Reply

Congrats on the list!!!! That is seriously so cool! Vegetables? Never met one I didn’t like- literally. But I love love love zucchini. Yummmmmmy.

Reply

Yay Janae!! You inspire me and I’m not even a runner. I often speak about you like we are real life friends. Thanks for your wonderful blog!

Reply

Yay for spinning again! I’m totally coming to one of your classes one day!

Congrats on making that bloggers list! You are amazing!

Hope you have a wonderful day, Girl!

Reply

I know the one I love is too expensive and far removed from where I live to participate in it–horseback riding! I feel a certain kinship with the horse when they get all cranky whilst I tighten their girth… Been there.

Reply

I have been teaching Pilates for 5 years. I also teach water aerobics in the summers and sometimes I get ambitious and teach weight lifting for a few months out of the year. I have taught Spin in the past too.

The only veggie I do not like is eggplant. YUCK!

Reply

Congrats on making that bloggers list, so awesome!

I hate Lima beans. Yuck.

I actually don’t care for aerobics type classes. I’m way too uncoordinated for those!

That outdoor mall is too cute looking.

Reply

Congratulations! You do make a difference so it’s about time you were recognized for it. I think you should also get an award for being the most positive blogger on the planet cause you win that hands down.
I too hate weight workouts by myself and the only veggie I absolutely hate is okra. Can’t stand it.
I have taught almost everyone in my neighborhood how to exercise their dogs so does that me a doggierobics instructor? No? Oh well.

Reply

Congrats!! Of course you made that list :) You’re AMAZING!!!

I’m sorry…I have to admit….I tried spin once and did not like it. Maybe I need to try it again.

I don’t like brussell sprouts, asparagus, and many veggies raw. I prefer them steamed.

Reply

I’m dying to try spinning! There really isn’t much in the way of spin classes where I am though. I do really, really love Zumba! The only veggie that I can say I really do not like is Brussels sprouts. Yuck!

Congratulations on making the list! You deserve it!

Reply

I haven’t found any form of exercising that I really don’t like. Maybe yoga. I know it’s really good for you and everything but it’s just too slow for me! I actually don’t like what is in your picture- sugar snap peas!

Reply

Congrats on making the list! Favourite workouts currently are heavy weights, TRX, boxing, and dance-style classes. I don’t have too many that I don’t like, but I’m a horrid swimmer so I probably can’t handle swimming workouts.
As for veggies, I’m not a fan of kale, eggplant, or raw mushrooms or onion.

Reply

Zumba scares the living daylights out of me! I can’t dance, so the thought of trying to get my groove on in a class, surrounded by mirrors and uber fit ladies, is downright terrifying!

Congrats on the Greatist award. I saw that yesterday!

And YAY for getting back into spinning. Would love to take one of your classes!

Reply

I’ve really wanted to try a spin class lately! I need to find a good one nearby….driving to Utah to take one with you might be pushing it. I have yet to find a workout or exercise class I do not like – I love pilates, yoga, barre, zumba….the list goes on. If I had to pick a least favorite it’d probably be just running on the treadmill…I hate that.

Congrats on your award!! That’s awesome – you’re doing amazing things :)

Reply

I love all exercise! I don’t know how to swim (I only doggy paddle!! – name that movie!!) and lifting is boring my myself so I guess I have limitations BUT in general, all exercise = good exercise. I think cardio will always have a special place in my heart though!

Reply

HEY GIRL– wooohooo! congrats on making the greatist. that is so amazing! couldn’t think of anyone better :]

i HATE jumping lunges. with a fierce passion. hmm… veggies i don’t like? i can’t think of any! not a big fan of potatoes unless they’re fried or smashed (love sweet potatoes though!). have a great day!!! =]

Reply

Not a fan of indoor exercise of any kind. I’ll do anything outdoors though. Perhaps my kettlebell and resistance bands should become incorporated into my curb appeal. LOL!

As for veggies? HMMM raddishes are not my fave. Carrots are usually lower on the list as well. But I don’t think I hate any veggies.

Reply

Congratulations!

I don’t like raw peppers or onions. But like them cooked!

Reply

The second you start teaching spin you better tell me cause I will be in that class! I have loved some classes and hated others, pretty much I think the teacher makes or breaks a class.

Oh and I do not like eggplant. No one can convince me it is good. No one.

Reply

You deserve to be on this list 100%. As soon as I clicked on it, I scrolled through to look for you! I’m the same as you… Lifting by myself is just.. Ugh, I just can’t.

Reply

I am an instructor and have taught since 2006. I started teaching Turbo Kick back in the day. Then I added Zumba, and in the last couple of years I’ve added Body Pump, Body Combat, CXworx, and this weekend I’ll be going to a training for Body Attack. I just can’t get enough!

I have yet to find a vegetable I don’t like. I thought I wouldn’t like brussel sprouts, but I tried them roasted a few years ago and found out I was wrong.

Not a surprise you made the list. Your blog is the first place I go after I turn on my computer each morning! And then every morning I wish we were friends… friend crush! :)

Reply

Why are there no drive thru subways here? I don’t understand this lol. I love a good spin class.I never taught one (or any other class for that matter) but I could really use a spin class in my life soon just to change things up a bit.

Reply

My thoughts exactly I have never seen a subway drive thru.

Reply

Congratulations on making the top 50 50 Bloggers Making A Difference in Fitness, Health and Happiness!! You are such a positive and inspiring person. Keep up the great work!

Reply

Congratulations! Well deserved:) I’m so glad you’ll be able to be teaching spin again soon!

Reply

I am a spin instructor. I started after I read on your blog that spinning would make me a faster runner and that it is a great way to cross train. After a couple of years I took the plunge and became an instructor and I love it! It’s only been since July that I’ve been instructing but it’s awesome!!

Reply

A drive thru Subway?! How awesome is that?!

I love to take spin and yoga, and I teach chair aerobics at a senior center! :)

Reply

Yay for you teaching again! ;-)

Reply

I have a goal of becoming a spin instructor – so fun!

Reply

Congratulations on making the list, that’s awesome!

I’m not a big fan of yoga. I know I need to do some more of it – just can’t seem to bring myself to taking the time to do so! I’m sure if I ever got into it, it would be awesome for my running though:)

Reply

I find step classes to be extremely intimidating…mainly because I lack coordination. I love spin classes, but haven’t taken one in months. We recently moved to NYC & I’m itching to take a Soul Cycle class!

Reply

I don’t love classes. I prefer to do my own thing. But I did love spinning when I took it. I should try to find a class local. I like most veggies.

Reply

Oh Janae! so excited for you to be picked to be on such a awesome list! Way to go. Just a little side note….going through a particular difficult time but thought one day when feeling very down of the phrase you mentioned ~ I can do hard things!. This has really helped ~ thank you so much:)

Reply

I truly hate to do lunges!

Reply

CONGRATS!

Reply

I don’t like cucumbers or pickles. Yuck!
Swimming is not my cup of tea. I can swim a little if I have to but just not for me.
About 10 years ago I taught step aerobics and kickboxing. Running is my love but still like both of those activities.

Reply

I really hate swimming. I have never been a strong swimmer and can’t breathe underwater. I did a few triathlons, but I just can’t handle the swim! I can’t wait to get to some spin classes this winter!

I love all vegetables, unless mushrooms are considered a vegetable? I’m not sure if they are, but I don’t like them.

Reply

Your Subway has a drive through? I am jealous! That is my dream!

I like all exercise, but don’t love lunges. Actually I hate lunges. But they’re necessary.

Reply

Congratulations Janae! I couldn’t agree more that you deserve to be on that list. I’ve been following your blog for a few years, and it always gives me inspiration to push myself to keep going for my running goals. Thank you!!

Reply

I don’t like any exercise that you need a lot of coordination for. I’m pretty sure body step is how I hurt my itband most recently.

I like most veggies, except Brussel sprouts, but unfortunately raw broccoli does not agree with my stomach (I had to leave work early twice before I figured out what was causing my stomach cramps!).

Reply

Congrats on the Award! We all know you’ve earned it :)

Reply

I’m not a huge fan of group kick, a kickboxing class. It’s okay, but not my preferred class. Broccoli and onions upset my stomach so I don’t eat them. I love most other veggies though!

Reply

I teach kickboxing and other strength and conditioning classes.

^ I think she would like my class ;)

Reply

Congrats on making the Top 50 list! That is awesome, and you totally deserve it. Hopefully one day I can be as much of an inspiration as you! Keep up the good work :)

Reply

I just can’t do beets– taste like dirt to me!

Reply

I do not like swimming at all. The list of veggies I don’t like would be much longer than the veggies I do like. I so wish I was a born veggie lover!

Reply

I hope you start teaching again. I would love to come to your class. I went last night to spin with Bert at 6pm.

Reply

Yay–that is exciting you’re putting the spin shoes back on! Can’t wait to hear the debut of going back to a class. Sweat & intensity as an instructor is super healing <3

Congrats on making the top 50 list!!

Reply

I’m not a fan of choreography classes, I’m just not coordinated enough for them haha

Reply

Congratulations on making the Blogger’s List Janae! You are a rockstar!!
I love spin class bc it always kicks my butt…as far as an exercise/class I don’t like is any aerobic/dance class because Im uncoordinated and it isn’t a pleasant experience lol!

Keep blogging, you are a true inspiration!

Reply

Congrats, what a nice and well deserved honor! I used to teach Turbo Kick and loved it but we moved and I’m into CrossFit now, thinking about getting my level 1 certification but it’s $1,000 so I need to start saving. I am NOT a fan of turnips or radishes, to me they taste like dirt!

Reply

What a great day! I love broccoli too, I always keep it in my house!

Reply

What? Your subway has a drive thru??

Congratulations on making the 50 list. Your blog always makes me super happy!

Reply

Congratulations on the list! That’s awesome!

Swimming is the one exercise I don’t like (and pretty much cannot do).

The only vegetable I don’t like are parsnips. LOVE brocolli witha massive passion! And read some new research the other day that brocolli has special receptors in our guts that switches on our immunity when we eat. So now, brocolli = extra amazing. :)

Reply

*BROCCOLI*, sorry it’s very early here…..

Reply

I love broccoli! My favorite!!

Shop from your couch at http://expertbrand.com. Use the code Active10 to save big!

Reply

I used to love doing zumba but the girl who taught my class stopped it due to lack of interest in the neighbourhood! :-( I really hate the rowing machine and the cross trainer in the gym!

Reply

Congrats on making the list – I saw your name and was really happy for you.

I’ve only done one zumba class but I loved it. I keep meaning to do it again, and failing!

Reply

Okay, Brooke’s striped leggings are seriously the best!! I love spinning, too! I have my own bike and ride it most days. It’s my fave :)

xo

Reply

My sister is obsessed with zumba! I just can’t seem to get into anything besides running… I’m hoping to find a kick boxing class near me because I think I would really love it.

I don’t like lima beans or wax (yellow) string beans.

Reply

I love all vegetables!!! Some more than others (brussel sprouts and beets are my faves). Raw carrots are not my favorite.

I don’t really like dancing – I think I’d make a fool out of myself in Zumba!

Reply

I do not like swimming laps. I LOVE the water and grew up water-skiing and diving on teams but to go to a pool and swim laps… no thanks. My husband used to be a swimmer in high school and college, so that’s his exercise of choice. I tried one day to work out with him and I thought I was going to drown. I’d rather run a marathon than swim multiple laps in a pool. Pools are for sun bathing and relaxing :)

Reply

I have a hard time motivating myself to do any weight lifting, it’s just boring! Pretty much love all veggies, except peppers (unless they are in fajitas)

Reply

I can’t believe your mom hates broccoli! Its my favorite vegetable. I am trying to like beets but I just can’t get into them.
Lately I have been having a hard time doing any exercise besides running and some core work/strength training. I used to be really good about cross training but I have gotten lazy lately and don’t feel like going to the gym when I can just run outside.

Reply

I personally CANNOT STAND asparagus. I don’t know exactly why because I love most other veggies, but asparagus just makes me go blegh.

Reply

Eww, probably the only vegetable that I will never touch is beets! So gross! haaha

Reply

Of course you made that list. You’re amazing and an inspiration!!!

Reply

I dislike any type of squash ( except spaghetti squash). Also, zucchini. I can’t stand it!

Reply

I don’t care for doing plank but I can do squats all day long. I love pretty much every vegetable except of bell peppers and Brussels sprouts. My favorite vegetable is either a sweet potato or baby kale. Oh my goodness Janae! That’s awesome you made that list! You seriously are the best blogger out there! You should get awarded more often!

Reply

Such a cool award! Congrats!
Only exercise I don’t like is anything with balls…soccer and such lol

Reply

I’ve never been to a Subway drive thru!

I think the only veggie I don’t like is beets. Yuck.

I don’t think there’s any exercise I don’t like – it’s all good for me so I like it all! Congrats on the list!! :D
