I will be the first to admit that I actually did take too many pictures during our 3.1 miles yesterday but I like taking pictures. And I like running (especially if it is with my family and we are sliding through an obstacle course with millions of bubbles while having to dodge kickballs).
If you are looking for a fun and active family or friend activity to do… the Hit and Run 5k is the one for you. I am pretty sure we were laughing the entire time.
Also huge congrats to my nephew for running 3.1 miles… a personal distance record and he rocked it.
Annette (it was her due date yesterday!) and Ashley. They loved it just as much as I did (well Annette didn’t do it but her husband loved it)!
Our wave was at 11 a.m. and things started off with a dance competition. That is my BIL and he won (they gave him a pair of JayBird BlueBuds!). I was so proud of him and people were very impressed with his flips and tricks. He needs to go on So You Think You Can Dance.
Our first obstacle was running through a trillion bubbles and huge balls that were rolling all over the place.
Next up was an obstacle course that ended with a slide. Say hello to my sisters leg in the bottom corner…
This one was hilarious. The wall doors would open randomly and push people down the slide and they also had people throwing balls at you as you went by. 1 out of 4 of us made it across.
And my personal favorite was bouncing from ball to ball to ball.
I am pretty sure this race was my BIL’s and nephew’s idea of heaven. My nephew kept saying it was the best day of his life (exaggerating clearly does not run in our family).
I definitely fell off of this one. It was harder than it looks. The volunteers were really awesome and helpful. This volunteer would run along the side of most people cheering them on as they went. He was great!
Another obstacle course. It only took me 4 tries to get up the second wall. My sister beat me on this one by 40 seconds.
Actually this one was my favorite obstacle.
You had to run along that beam while dodging balls and those pillars. It was crazy slippery and the two of us did not make it across.
In between each obstacle you would run about a quarter of a mile until you reached the next one. They also had a water station along the way.
The last obstacle. I did not want to fall into that water so I took my time. Those balls rotated around the entire thing knocking people in the water left and right.
I think my BIL fell in 6 times or something like that.
By the end we were shocked that we had gone 3.1 miles because we were just thinking about the obstacles the entire time and getting excited for what was next.
They had hot chocolate for all of the runners at the end which always wins points in my book. I would highly recommend trying this race out. My nephew made me promise to do it with him every year… an easy promise for me to make.
Lisa @ runningoutofwine
This looks like a lot of fun! I’m not really into obstacle races but this one seems like it would be something I’d enjoy doing with friends or family. Congrats to your nephew on completing his first 5k!
Looks like a blast! I’m signed up for this 5k too, but it doesn’t happen here until May!
What a fun race!!! Have you seen the show Wipe Out? All the obstacles reminded me of it!
I hope the rest of your weekend is great!! :)
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More
I was thinking the same thing! My youngest daughter loves that show! I will have to see if it is coming near us anytime soon.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona
This looks like such a fun race to go with family or friends.
I wish there was something like this close to me.
Amy @ Rum Mom Run
That race looks awesome. I am not really into theme races but I want to do that one.
I love all family related races. If I’m doing with them with my dad you better believe I take more then the average amount of photos.
That being said doing a fun run I’d probably take a ton of photos as well. I did a mud run and loved to take photo. That is so awesome about your nephew too. I want to do that. I just want really live on the west coast I think…you guys have all the fun!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles
This sounds crazy, but in the best way possible! I love blow-up things, but I don’t have the best balance, so I’d probably fall…a lot. :)
It’s like Wipe Out! I have serious race envy reading your blog! England isn’t so much about the “fun” in races, though they do have a LOT of races here. They are all cross-country style (well, mostly), which is lovely in the English country side. On my last race, we stopped to help a sheep! Looks like a great family day.
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes
Holy cow that looks like such a blast! Perfect for a family race. I love how they make races unique now and not just start to finish! What will they come up with next…
Ohhh my gosh, this looks like pretty much the coolest thing ever. I want to do ittttt!!! It’s like American Ninja Warrior, only looks much more fun! haha :)
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs
This looks like so much fun! I’ve always thought being on Wipe Out would be hilarious, and this seems just like some of the obstacles they do! Glad you had a fun time :)
this looks so fun! i won a race entry on ashley’s blog and can’t wait to do it:) did you ever announce the winner from your blog? a few friends entered that want to do it with me but i don’t remember seeing the winner announced. i can’t believe how many pictures you got, i’d be afraid my camera/phone would get ruined in all the madness.
Laura @ Live, Run, Sparkle
Omg that lo
Laura @ Live, Run, Sparkle
Oops! That looks like the most fun ever!! What a fun day!
Katie @ Bevo Loves an Aggie
That looks like a blast!
This looks so fun! The only obstacle races by me are those tough mudders and id rather not get electrocuted or crawl through small pipes thank you. This looks right up my alley
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life
Oh how fun you got to hang out with Ash and Annette!! :) Glad your 5k went great- you rocked it!!
OMG, that looks like a blast! You have such a great family – your BIL is a hoot!

So fun!! And I’m so jealous you got to hang out with Ashley again! She’s been my “mommy buddy” since we both had our little ones!
that looks like such a blast! I’m glad your nephew had so much fun.. he looks really happy!
Kristina @ Blog About Running
This looks like my kind of obstacle race! I went to support my boyfriend when he did Tough Mudder earlier this year and know I would never be able to rock those obstacles. But THIS looks so much fun! Great job to all of you!
Omg how fun!!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Now -this- looks like a 5K that I’d be able to run! So.much.FUN :D It actually reminds me of the show Wipe Out, which makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. I really wish they had something like this around here.
Heidi @ Idlehide
that looks like a total blast. I hope we have one come to our city soon! It’s kind of like that show Wipe-Out!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Apparently I missed the memo that we were no longer flexing in that photo. ;) Haha. It was so fun to see you for a few minutes! Glad you guys had fun! And I’m SO excited your BIL won that competition – that’s awesome. I want to see your beautiful face again soon!
Allison (Ms. Whirlwind)
That looks like so much fun! They had a mud run here last weekend that I know my five-year-old would have LOVED but they had an age minimum of 14! He did a color run with his grandma and he just wants to do all the fun races. I don’t think they’re going to have anything like that around here, heh.
Danica @ It's Progression
Such a cool race….my husband and I are doing it in May (in MN) and I’m really excited! I feel like I’ll be laughing most of the time :)
Meaghan @ Tale of Two Teachers
That looks so awesome!!! I really hope it comes at least to Seattle at a time I can make it! :)
Hannah @ PalmBeachRunner
How exciting! Your family is so active, that’s awesome!! :-) Beautiful family too!
Wow..this looks like a blast…I will have to keep my eyes open for one to come to MN. ;-)
Anne @ CandyCrazedrun.wordpress.com
Holy Cannoli! Coming from a girl who asked for, and received a hula hoop for her 24th birthday, that race looks like the best race in the history of the world!
Congrats to your nephew, and I am way impressed with your BIL’s dance moves!
Ahhh that looks so fun!! That’s awesome that everyone had a blast! I wish they had something like this in my town.
Nicole @ Work in Sweats Mama
Wow, this looks like so much fun, especially with a group or kids. Thanks for all the great pics!
How fun! Especially that you spent it with your family.
That looks like a race I could sign up for.
That race looks SOON AWESOME! Congrats and great job for rocking it!!:)
Nikki @ grab your kicks
That run looks like the show “Wipeout” but in 5k form! Awesome!!!
Kay @ goaloflosing.com
Thanks for sharing about this race! Now that I’ve done the color run, I’m looking for more “fun runs” to participate in!

That looks like so much fun! What a great way to get a family active and enjoy some good ole’ exercise!
Denise @ whattheschneck.blogspot.com
OMG! That looks like soooo much fun! I’ve only done one obstacle course a few years ago and it was so lame compared to that one! I wonder if they ever have ones like that in Florida!
Reese (Pieces of Reese)
denise if you ever find out about one in florida let me know! haha
Leigha @ Minougirl
Race bucket list!!! This looks so fun!
I really wish they brought one closer to me because that looks amazing! I definitely understand why you didn’t think of it like a 5K because it was so fun! Such a great family bonding time, too. Love that you are so close to your sister and her kids.
Holly @ Run With Holly
It certainly does look like a fun race, and definitely a good one for kids! Congrats to you all on the adventure!
But I’m going to be the part pooper here and ask…doesn’t this strike you as a pretty tasteless name for a race? “Hit and Run”?
Runner Girl Eats
I’m obsessed with Wipe Out and would loovveee to do this! Looks like a blast :)
that is way too much fun! i would have flow in for that. ;-)
love annette and ashley! What great blends!
This looks like the show Wipe Out! So much fun!
Oh my that looks like so much fun! Just like another poster said ~ a version of the show wipe out, of which I would totally love to attempt! Your nephew is the cutest and congrats to him on his first best of many many runs:) And congrats to your BIL for winning the dance contest. These moves I am sure are what attracted your sister to him ~ lol :) So glad they had hot chocolate afterwards too.
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run
Omigosh that looked so fun!!
that is awesome
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles
This reminds me so much of Wipe Out! I used to watch that show all the time. It would be so much fun to give this a try!
Now that is my kind of obstacle race!
Reese (Pieces of Reese)
That seriously looks like so much fun! I am thinking about doing my first obstacle/mud run in November so your recap is helping convince me to do it!
Reese (Pieces of Reese)
Also I am jealous of all you northerners who get hot chocolate after races!
Kari @ Running Ricig
That race looks like so much fun! You guys are such a fun family!
That looks like the funnest race ever! My solution for America’s obesity epidemic is to have Wipe Out courses in every city. Just like the ones you posted here. Making excersize fun!
You’ve definitely convinced me that this is a 5K I NEED to do! Our family LOVES Wipe Out, and it looks so much like it. Normally I poo-poo 5K’s, but I think I could get my 9yo daughter up to speed to run that and we’d both have a blast and the rest of the family would definitely enjoy watching!
That looks like the most EPIC RACE EVER!!!!!
The looks on everyone’s faces while BIL was dancing :) AWESOME!!!
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy
This kind of reminds me of the show Wipeout. I wish this would come to Indiana, my husband would love it!
that sounds like a fun race!!!
Maggie @ Magnolia on the Run
That looks and sounds awesome! I could actually talk my boyfriend into doing that one with me!
That looks like an awesome 5K!!!
http://expertbrand.com. Where I get all my cold weather performance apparel!
This looks so fun! You all should compete on WipeOut next since you’ve done all the stuff they do on that show, haha.
oh my God this looks so fun!!
It was seriously one of the funnest things I have ever done, and thanks to the contest you posted and I won, I got to expeience it for free!!! YAY! I too was at the 11:00 wave and it was by far the best crowd for sure!!! I will be doing this every year going forward and hope to be able to run the entire 5k next year!!!
This was so much fun! I saw you there, I remember your BIL because of the dancing in the beginning and also ran the 11:00 time! I would recommend this and I will for sure be back next year!
Courtney @ Don't Blink. Just Run.
That looks like so much fun and a great family race! I’m hoping it’ll come close enough to me on the East Coast so I can do it next year. I did the Foam Fest 5K in July that was similar, but this one looks like much more fun!
Becky @ TheBexFactor.com
This looks like so much fun!
Great review of our very first race held in our hometown! Hopefully many of you know of our next event coming in a few weeks in the 2014 season! We are holding this years event same place but different time on August 9th! We would love to see all of you again!
