Hit and Run 5k Recap!

I will be the first to admit that I actually did take too many pictures during our 3.1 miles yesterday but I like taking pictures.  And I like running (especially if it is with my family and we are sliding through an obstacle course with millions of bubbles while having to dodge kickballs).

If you are looking for a fun and active family or friend activity to do… the Hit and Run 5k is the one for you.  I am pretty sure we were laughing the entire time.

Also huge congrats to my nephew for running 3.1 miles… a personal distance record and he rocked it.

Annette (it was her due date yesterday!) and Ashley.  They loved it just as much as I did (well Annette didn’t do it but her husband loved it)!

Our wave was at 11 a.m. and things started off with a dance competition.  That is my BIL and he won (they gave him a pair of JayBird BlueBuds!).  I was so proud of him and people were very impressed with his flips and tricks.  He needs to go on So You Think You Can Dance.

IMG 2284

Our first obstacle was running through a trillion bubbles and huge balls that were rolling all over the place.

IMG 2292

Next up was an obstacle course that ended with a slide.  Say hello to my sisters leg in the bottom corner…

IMG 2295

This one was hilarious.  The wall doors would open randomly and push people down the slide and they also had people throwing balls at you as you went by.  1 out of 4 of us made it across.

IMG 2299

And my personal favorite was bouncing from ball to ball to ball.

IMG 2302

I am pretty sure this race was my BIL’s and nephew’s idea of heaven.  My nephew kept saying it was the best day of his life (exaggerating clearly does not run in our family).

IMG 2309

I definitely fell off of this one.  It was harder than it looks.  The volunteers were really awesome and helpful.  This volunteer would run along the side of most people cheering them on as they went.  He was great!

IMG 2313

Another obstacle course.  It only took me 4 tries to get up the second wall.  My sister beat me on this one by 40 seconds.

IMG 2315

Actually this one was my favorite obstacle.

IMG 2319

You had to run along that beam while dodging balls and those pillars.  It was crazy slippery and the two of us did not make it across.

IMG 2317

In between each obstacle you would run about a quarter of a mile until you reached the next one.  They also had a water station along the way.

The last obstacle.  I did not want to fall into that water so I took my time.  Those balls rotated around the entire thing knocking people in the water left and right.

IMG 2328

I think my BIL fell in 6 times or something like that.

IMG 2332

By the end we were shocked that we had gone 3.1 miles because we were just thinking about the obstacles the entire time and getting excited for what was next.

They had hot chocolate for all of the runners at the end which always wins points in my book.  I would highly recommend trying this race out.  My nephew made me promise to do it with him every year…  an easy promise for me to make.

This looks like a lot of fun! I’m not really into obstacle races but this one seems like it would be something I’d enjoy doing with friends or family. Congrats to your nephew on completing his first 5k!

Looks like a blast! I’m signed up for this 5k too, but it doesn’t happen here until May!

What a fun race!!! Have you seen the show Wipe Out? All the obstacles reminded me of it!

I hope the rest of your weekend is great!! :)

I was thinking the same thing! My youngest daughter loves that show! I will have to see if it is coming near us anytime soon.

This looks like such a fun race to go with family or friends.

I wish there was something like this close to me.

That race looks awesome. I am not really into theme races but I want to do that one.

I love all family related races. If I’m doing with them with my dad you better believe I take more then the average amount of photos.

That being said doing a fun run I’d probably take a ton of photos as well. I did a mud run and loved to take photo. That is so awesome about your nephew too. I want to do that. I just want really live on the west coast I think…you guys have all the fun!

This sounds crazy, but in the best way possible! I love blow-up things, but I don’t have the best balance, so I’d probably fall…a lot. :)

It’s like Wipe Out! I have serious race envy reading your blog! England isn’t so much about the “fun” in races, though they do have a LOT of races here. They are all cross-country style (well, mostly), which is lovely in the English country side. On my last race, we stopped to help a sheep! Looks like a great family day.

Holy cow that looks like such a blast! Perfect for a family race. I love how they make races unique now and not just start to finish! What will they come up with next…

Ohhh my gosh, this looks like pretty much the coolest thing ever. I want to do ittttt!!! It’s like American Ninja Warrior, only looks much more fun! haha :)

That looks like so much fun! They had a mud run here last weekend that I know my five-year-old would have LOVED but they had an age minimum of 14! He did a color run with his grandma and he just wants to do all the fun races. I don’t think they’re going to have anything like that around here, heh.

I really wish they brought one closer to me because that looks amazing! I definitely understand why you didn’t think of it like a 5K because it was so fun! Such a great family bonding time, too. Love that you are so close to your sister and her kids.

Reply

It certainly does look like a fun race, and definitely a good one for kids! Congrats to you all on the adventure!

But I’m going to be the part pooper here and ask…doesn’t this strike you as a pretty tasteless name for a race? “Hit and Run”?

Your nephew is the cutest and congrats to him on his first best of many many runs:) And congrats to your BIL for winning the dance contest. That looks like the funnest race ever! My solution for America’s obesity epidemic is to have Wipe Out courses in every city. Just like the ones you posted here. Making excersize fun!

Reply

You’ve definitely convinced me that this is a 5K I NEED to do! Our family LOVES Wipe Out, and it looks so much like it. Normally I poo-poo 5K’s, but I think I could get my 9yo daughter up to speed to run that and we’d both have a blast and the rest of the family would definitely enjoy watching!

That looks like the most EPIC RACE EVER!!!!!

The looks on everyone’s faces while BIL was dancing :) AWESOME!!!

It was seriously one of the funnest things I have ever done, and thanks to the contest you posted and I won, I got to expeience it for free!!! YAY! I too was at the 11:00 wave and it was by far the best crowd for sure!!! I will be doing this every year going forward and hope to be able to run the entire 5k next year!!!

Reply

This was so much fun! I saw you there, I remember your BIL because of the dancing in the beginning and also ran the 11:00 time! I would recommend this and I will for sure be back next year!

That looks like so much fun and a great family race! I’m hoping it’ll come close enough to me on the East Coast so I can do it next year. I did the Foam Fest 5K in July that was similar, but this one looks like much more fun!
