The funniest running video and Brooke was mad I came home.

Workout: 5000 meters rowing machine, yoga class, 5000 meters rowing.  I think I really love the rowing machine.  I don’t get bored because I just prop my phone up on the center bar and watch Netflix while I row (wireless headphones makes that easier) and it really is an awesome workout.  Yoga was mainly stretching (which is what I was hoping for) and she had us do handstands.  I couldn’t do it but I am going to blame it on the fact that I did rowing before class and I was tired.  I think the last time I did a handstand was 1993.

When I came home Brooke and Billy were hanging out and she was mad I interrupted her fun time with Billy.

‘Noooooooooooooo’

But after a minute or two she was happy again.

Speaking of rowing, gotta love these benefits:

(Source… great article about proper technique too!)

Scientific studies show that berry blast is the perfect recovery tool after rowing (I made 100% of that up but I am just going to pretend to believe it) along with a big bowl of oatmeal.

Brooke and I are on our way to Chipotle to meet up with a really really good friend that I haven’t seen in almost 4 years.  We met at college (we had the same major) and we requested to do our student teaching together and somehow they let us.  We would carpool back and forth and teach together all day…. it was a good time.

This is from our last day at the school we taught at and a class had a going away party for us complete with tiaras and an Elmo piñata full of candy.

My addiction to bronzer was even more out of control back then.

I REALLY think (know) that you need to watch this.  I laughed for 5 minutes straight.  The water bottle prank is the meanest thing I have ever seen.    The Wheel of Giant Prizes also made my day.  If you run races, please watch this.  Thanks Lizz for sending it to me!

Who ran LA marathon last weekend?  Have you ever eaten food from people (other than aid station volunteers) on the side of the race?

-I have taken a banana once time from someone and I think candy one time too.

How many TEACHERS do I have reading?  Did you enjoy student teaching?

Can you do a handstand?

Did the video make you laugh?

I’m a teacher and I LOVE what I do. I couldn’t ask for a better job.
PLUS I work at a year round school so my time off is awesome :D

I LOVED student teaching! I cried when I had to leave my students. I was so lucky because I got to do a substitute leave for both of my student teaching classes when their teachers were out on maternity leave the year after I did my student teaching. I learned so much more student teaching than in any of my classes! Can’t wait to have a student teacher of my own someday. :)

Reply

Brooke is too funny! I cant do a handstand but I did row before my run tonight :)

I just found out I have a stress fracture from over training. I have to take 2 months off of running! 2 months! I’m so sad, I already cried and now I need a plan of action. My doctor said I can do things that don’t hurt, I’m planning on trying rowing to see how it feels! I think spinning will be ok…what type of workouts did you do when you were injured? I’m just so afraid of gaining weight and losing all of the hard work I had done. Also it’s turning to spring which is PERFECT running weather…**sigh**.

Reply

Oh Caroline, that breaks my heart. I am truly so sorry about what you are going through. I did spin, yoga and a lot of upper body strength and core work while I was injured. It is so hard to go through injuries and I completely understand how frustrating and hard it is. You will come back STRONGER and smarter about training, I promise! I had my stress fractures at the same time of year too and it was hard. Take the time that you used to spend running and focus in on new interest/talents and hobbies. Spend the time and energy with your loved ones and also learning and reading about running and how to prevent future overtraining injuries. I am always here for you if you need to vent to someone!

Try deep water jogging. Get a water belt and go for it. I like to do a 10 min warmup, then do some intervals, some steady state, then cool down. It can be a great workout if you push yourself.

Reply

I saw this video yesterday – hilarious! And no I definitely can’t do a handstand… but I do like yoga! Especially hot yoga, have you tried it?

Reply

Brooke is so cute! Can’t get enough of that cutie.

I’m in college right now- i’ve changed my major about 16 times. I’m leaning towards teaching right now but I’ll lose some credits if i switch so i’m not sure. I’ve been working as a nanny for a great family for the past 4 years and have decided that I really want to work with kids. Plus summers off.. that’s a total win haha.

I love the berry blast Naked juice!! So good :) I agree with your studies ;)

1. Haha. I saw that video this week. I was running in the LA Marathon but didn’t see this guy. Good thing. I woulda been pretty embarrassed. I took lots of orange slices from random people on the sidelines of the race. I remember thinking there were probably lots of germs on them because all the runners were just reaching their hands in a gigantic bowl… But at that point, the tastiness of the orange outweighed my germophobia. LOL

2. Not a teacher. But my sister and BFF are.

3. Nope. I can do a sorta yoga-ish tripod headstand though. Maybe.

4. Yes. But quietly. I’m at work. Shhhhh…

Reply

I can’t do headstands either. Or handstands. I’m just not skilled. Brooke’s far is too cute. I cracked up while I’m squirming from the stim on my back right now. Not fun, let me tell you. I think I’d accept food from anyone. I’m the poster child for someone who’s going to get abducted. I never learned from my parents I guess not to accept food from strangers

Reply

Brooke’s facial expressikn is priceless! Have you heard of the Concept 2 rowing challenges? If not you should google it, you can keep a log and win prize…i just started a log book because it’s really the only other cardio machine i use besides a treadmill.

Reply

I LOVE the rowing machine – our Y had the exact one that you use (you posted a picture yesterday) I am going to check out your info. for proper technique.

Happy Thursday.

I’m going to be starting grad school soon to become a teacher. I’m excited, especially for student teaching! What age did you teach?

Reply

I can’t do a hand stand. But, I rowed 5340 meters last night. I have found that is the base camp at Mt. Everest. An un-useful fact!

Reply

LOL, that video had my husband and I in tears!! Too Funny! Brooke is adorable! I taught Pre-K, Kinder and 1st grade for 10yrs. Taking time off right now to stay with my daughter until she starts school. What grade did you teach?

Reply

I am in my 5th year of teaching. I still think about my kids from student teaching! It was the best experience ever!! The ending of this video made me laugh for a good while. I’m running the Dallas RnR half on Sunday. I’ve never run in a big race so most of this video I was trying to decide if I would be that gullible. Lol

Reply

Brooke is the funniest and cutest thing ever!! I’ve never rowed before…maybe I need to give it a try.

Reply

I’m going to school to be a teacher! Can’t wait to finally finish =) I haven’t tried to do a handstand lately, but I can still do a pretty good bridge and kick my legs over (aka very slow mo back walk over) hahahaha!

Reply

janae! i rowed in college (i was just a club team, don’t get too excited) but it was serious (5:30am practice, 2x/day practice over spring break, etc.). the rowing machine is NO JOKE. i’m so happy you watched videos b/c i want to cry for people i see at my gym on there sometimes! for some perspective regarding distance, in college the “sprint” races are 2000 meters and the “long” races are 5000 meters. so 5000m x2 is a lot. i’d say, just try to keep your form and, like with any sport, start out slow. once you get the hang of it, you can do ‘workouts’ like on the treadmill (ex. 500m on/500m off, 30 sec. sprints, try to drop your split by 5 sec. every min. for 5 min. [2:30, 2:25, 2:20 …/500m], etc.) i never ever use the rowing machine now — it was such torture in college. i’m so impressed with you!!

Reply

I agree with Kendra! I also rowed in college and when I saw that you did 5000m x 2 I was like ‘that is a lot for 1 day!’. But it is a fantastic workout and I get so into it!

Reply

Seconded (thirded?) on the cautionary tale of rowing that kind of distance without in-person training. I also rowed in college and my eyebrows shot up when I saw your distances–maybe ask a friend with experience to watch you once or twice just to make sure you look as good as you feel. It’s way too easy to injure yourself on the erg. Psyched that you have found a cross training activity you are fired up about, though!

Reply

Love the pictures of Brooke! I hope you have a wonderful time with your friend! Chipotle rocks :-)

Reply

I’m a teacher… but not in the formal level! I teach in nonformal programs like camps, zoos, aquariums, etc. and I teach about marine biology :D It’s so much fun and so rewarding. I LOVE when the students are actually excited (the parents too) about learning and I have had a lot of cool experiences (i.e. dolphins and sea turtles) through this field. I’m actually going to try the rowing machine tomorrow…wish me luck and hope I don’t die or wreck myself!

Reply

I had a terrible student teaching experience! But a great first year teaching so that made up for it!

Reply

ok that video was hilarious. Seriously you have to have some fun out there!

Reply

Handstands at yoga scare me so much! I can never do them and I’m so afraid to break my neck haha. How long does it take to row 5000 meters? That seems so far!

Reply

Omgosh I just laughed so hard my abs hurt! The jello shots would be amazing during a race, just saying. But I loved the ending!

Reply

I can do a handstand! I did gymnastics as a kid and a little as a teenager, but had to re-approach the handstand in yoga. Quite the challenge. I still do the little bounce and hand gesture when getting out of it. :)

Reply

I havne’t done a handstand in years. Would not be pretty.

That video was great. Other than the water bottles glued down. That was just mean! LOL

Reply

Oh my goodness – too funny – I especially like the chinese food! I have taken gummy bears at a race before from a spectator – they were delicious!

Reply

I can’t believe the kind of food people will take from strangers in a marathon. I would be so afraid of what the food would do to my digestion.

That first photo of Brooke is priceless. She is seriously the most expressive child I’ve ever seen. I love it!

I can’t do a handstand. I tried a few years ago and FAIL.

Reply

Oh my gosh! I just watched the video in a Starbucks (with my headphones, of course) and everyone is now giving me the evil eye for laughing so loud/long. Thanks for sharing!

I’m not a teacher, but sometimes I really wish that it was something I pursued. I love kids and I’m pretty sure the inner child in me would have a field day if I was able to work with them all the time. Have an awesome time at Chipotle! I’m going to try and not get too jealous since I love that place and we don’t have it up here in Canada.

I’m a teacher! And if I’m reading the date right behind you in your last day pic, I finished my student teaching only one day before you! I remember specifically because I played April Fools jokes on my class. :) I love teaching. There is always a challenge.

I’m a teacher AND I ran the LA Marathon last weekend! I took a few odd food items (orange slices, half a banana). I remember when my husband and I ran the Chicago Marathon he took a swig from a bottle of gatorade that was on the side of the road!!

I saw that video the other day and thought it was the funniest thing ever.

I laughed at the video, although I might not have been laughing if I had been one of the runners reaching for a bottle of water!

I loved student teaching too. Mostly because I also had a teaching partner, car pool partner…….but it was a HE and we actually had a small student teaching fling.

I am a teacher! :) I student taught 12 years ago in 2nd grade and 5th grade. I absolutely adored the teacher I student taught with in the second grade classroom. The 5th grade placement was just okay. I currently teach junior high so really neither of those placements helped me terribly much!!

Thanks for the info on the rowing machine! My gym just got two of them and I’ve been hesitant to try them. I’m going to use it next visit to the gym. Thanks!

I’m a teacher and i LOVED student teaching! i did mine in a Boston public school and it was amazing. I love teaching now, too, but at that point I was just so happy my lifelong dream was becoming a reality that it was magical, ya know?! i guess i should think back to that time on some of the tougher days now!!

have a great night :)

Bahaha! Oh my goodness, the leprechaun! And the guy kept going with him! I laughed so hard my dog came over to see if I was ok!

I heard about that video on RW, but I hadn’t seen it. Too funny!! Though, the water one? I would have been ticked if that happened to me. Watching it happen to someone else is a different story ;) The leprachaun at the end? HILARIOUS!!

Funny you should mention handstands. The other day I thought I would try one…maybe I was drinking those jello shots Jimmy’s cousin was handing out, cause I am not sure why this idea seemed good to me…and I haven’t done one in years. Pretty sure I pulled something. It’s pretty ridiculous how awesome I am.

Reply

Have you tried the Mighty Mango flavor of Naked? I think that’s what it’s called. It is delicious!!

That video was hilarious! I actually saw it in a weekly email one of the races I ran sends out.

I can do a handstand AND walk on my hands :) As a kid I could pretty much walk on my hands as long as I wanted to, and I even tried going down a short (3-4) set of stairs one time. I did it, but it was scary so I didn’t try it again haha. I was in a circus club and we used to do all kinds of crazy things. We even used to do backflips off of the swings at the playground. My poor parents :)

I loved student teaching though I was the only student teacher in the building. I wish there were others to experience it with. But it was nice they asked me back for when they had their state exams.

I am a teacher! I teach 3rd grade! I love to tell them about my running. Sometimes I even set the timer for the time it took me to run a race. They can’t believe that I could run for that long. So much fun. Student teaching-so much work but it was fun!
I can do a headstand.
Yes-Video was super funny!
and Brook is so darn cute!!

I didn’t do LA this past weekend, but I did do the Rome Marathon on the same day (it was terrible and I hated it).

I think I took some oranges from a family when I did the Glasgow Half Marathon a couple years ago.

I need to start rowing, seems like an amazing workout.

Brooke is so previous. For real. I love her. :)

Thanks for the rowing info! I’ve always been curious but never tried it at my gym.

I only got to complete a handful of races before my IT Band put me out of commission (since November!), but my favorite part of every race was the food at the end. My longest race was a 10k (which was when I injured myself), so I never took in any fuel while running.

I am a teacher! I teach 5th grade now, but I did my student thing in 3rd and 4th. I absolutely loved 4th grade and had a wonderful experience. My cooperative teacher is now an assistant principal, so I’m hoping to get a job in her school in the net few years.

My husband and I had a handstand challenge a few weeks ago, and I won!! He tried to challenge me a few weeks before that when I was 9 months preggo, unfair advantage for him! I loved that video!! I had to share it with my local running group on our FB page.

I hear you on interrupting Daddy-Daughter time. The other day I walked into our room and Susanna just looked at me like, “what?” because she was in awe of her dad. Today he taught her how to do the Twist. Her face had the best smile on it!

I taught Spanish and Special Education for 10 years and still teach. My student teaching experiences were rough, but they taught me a lot, and for that I’m grateful.

that could be me next year wearing the tiara! I’m studying biology and education in college right now and am trying to decide whether I want to go through with student teaching and get my certification to be a high school science teacher. I love teaching, but I think I love it even more this year than past years b/c I just do it parttime. I get to teach aerobics full time! Yes, my life is good! ;-)

Okay, first off, I recently discovered your blog and I am hooked! Your posts are so entertaining! Also, Brooke is the cutest! :)

I once took a small glass of beer during a half marathon (it was mile 12, I figured it wouldn’t hurt!)

Not a teacher, but I volunteer in my son’s first grade class, does that count?!

Couldn’t do a handstand if my life depended on it!

And lastly, the video was hilarious! My fav part was when Cousin Sal handed the runner a leprechaun! Awesomeness! :)

Reply

I loved my student teaching experience! I often wish I could go back and teach at that school!

ALSO THAT VIDEO WAS FUNNY!!! Made my day :)

Reply

I think that video is hilarious, but if I was one of those runners I probably wouldn’t think so. I get more serious during races than someone my average speed should.

I rock handstands. I mean, as long as they’re against a wall. Or I fall over.

You seriously have thee cutest child ever!

Hahahaahahahahahahahahaha. Oh gosh the pictures of brooke just make my day! You must really have your camera in hand to catch such great shots of her!

LOL, the water bottle prank is just wrong! The other ones were funny though. I’ve taken strawberries and cut oranges from strangers during races before. But I’ll admit I’m never too confident with it…

Reply

wow, you have a lot of teacher-readers! add me to the list…i did an alternative certification teaching program after i got my degree in biomedical sciences. we didn’t have a traditional student teaching program and i kind of wish we did – would have helped to get my feet wet before jumping right in (esp. since i started my career in a self-contained classroom for kids with emotional/behavioral disabilities!)

Oh my! Brooke is the cutest baby and I’m not even crazy about babies.

I am a teacher; but I didn’t do student teaching. I did an internship. It was ROUGH! I learned a lot though. Kind of like teaching someone to swim by throwing them in the lake. LOL

I can do a hand stand, but only for like 2 seconds. I can do headstand for like 10 minutes though. I am pretty boss at that!

I have a teaching degree but only taught for a year…I was put in a bad situation for a first year teacher and just couldn’t handle more than one year. I would love to go back to it though. I really enjoyed my student teaching during my middle school rotation. I taught 8th grade history and it was a lot of fun :). Do you miss teaching?

I think I may have been able to do a handstand when I was younger, but I think I would hurt myself if I tried now!

My hubby and I just got home from Chipotle!!!!!!!!! I love Brooke’s mad look!

OH my gosh that video almost made me cry! That’s HILARIOUS.

I’ve never taken food from a spectator, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t!

Reply

I’m a teacher! I didn’t really enjoy student teaching, but I love my job!

That video is ridiculous. In a totally funny way, but seriously I’d be so annoyed about the water bottle by mile 11, but then I get cranky when I’m tired. It’s super funny when it’s happening to someone else.

I am a teacher and I loved my student teaching experience. My mentor teacher worked me hard and really long hours, but it really prepared me well for what this job really is like. I wish I could have taught with my mentor teacher for ever. She was the best. I love my job so much. It’s the best job in the world.

My hometown had it’s inaugural half marathon a couple of years back and I ran it for the hometown experience. There was a little girl passing out gummy worms in her driveway to the runners passing by. I took one of those from her and to this day it is my favorite on course fuel I ever got.

P.S. How is it that Brook continues to get more and more adorable every day? I’m not even a baby lover and I’m so smitten with her.

I taught and was a school counselor before kids….LOVED student teaching. I was so sad when it was over. That was like a million years ago, though:).

Have you heard of IndoRow? If not, you should google it. It is an indoor rowing class that is probably a lot easier to find in California as the creator lives there. I got to take it at a fitness conference a few years ago and absolutely loved it! Very athletic and fun. Can’t get the places I teach to purchase the machines for the class yet…but if you like rowing, you’d probably really enjoy it.

How many TEACHERS do I have reading? Did you enjoy student teaching?
-Well I have my degree in teaching, I have a license in teaching and I am on my second year of subbing so Holla I am!! :) I actually did enjoy student teaching! It was second grade and my cooperating teacher was pretty good. The only blah of student teaching was that I experienced 11 snow days, and actually a WHOLE week off. So that was a bummer!

Can you do a handstand?
-Heck yeah! I did 13 years of gymnastics :)

Did the video make you laugh?
-Not at the moment! I am still half asleep :/ so I didnt really connect everything together haha
