I miss having a gym membership.

I used to be a religious body pump goer. I despise doing weights but for some reason I loved everything about body pump. Until I have a gym membership again (currently looking for spin teaching positions) I will just have to make do with Jillian’s 30 day shred. Since I am bored to death with that DVD I stole my cousin’s idea and watched Parenthood while I did it. Brilliant.

Once Brooke fell asleep I jumped on the treadmill for a few miles until she woke up.

For lunch I had a baked potato topped with leftover meatloaf and broccoli. It was not a pretty sight but it hit the spot.

Billy doesn’t usually share his special, top secret, favorite bean dip recipe with anyone but since he really likes you guys he said that I could share it with you just in case you wanted to eat it while watching the Super Bowl.

Pre-heat Broiler

The Seven Layers:

1. One 16 oz. can of refried beans.

2. Mash 3 avocados with 3 Tbs. lime juice.

3. 2 cups sour cream and envelope of taco seasoning.

4. 3 Tbs. chopped green chili peppers.

5. 1 or 2 five oz. cans of chopped olives.

6. 8 small tomatoes- chopped.

7. 2 cups grated cheddar cheese.

Cook 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and top with green onions!

I even have a picture of the bean dip that is from a Super Bowl party that we had FOUR YEARS AGO. I took pictures of food long before I even knew what email was let alone food blogs.

IMG 0222 1

And a picture of my roommate/bf (now sister-in-law… they still owe me for that set-up:) at the party. I used to have eyelash extensions and they were so heavy it was hard to open my eyes.

IMG 0226

Speaking of eyelashes, it is completely normal to be jealous of your baby’s eyelashes (she definitely got those from Billy).

Ever had extensions? Eyelash extensions?

Do you go to body pump classes?

Do you have a gym membership? Where? How often do you go?

How many stars would you give your workout today? (1 star= lame, 4 stars= holy cow that was awesome).

The one and only thing I was given that are long is my eyelashes. I wish it was legs — much harder to get extension legs than eyelashes.
As far as a gym membership — I just quit. We’re moving and now I am going a month with just me and the great outdoors…we’ll see how it goes!

Reply

Haha – me too!!! I’m 5 ft tall but my eyelashes are very long. Once a doctor asked me if I took some lash-growing medication I had never heard of.

This winter I’m working my way through groupon/livingsocial deals for trial gym memberships until it’s warm enough to run outside full-time again!

I had eyelash extensions for the first time last year. I never got used to them. I felt like everything was getting trapped in my eyelashes. I was also terrified of bugs getting trapped, so I’d walk along, remember bugs, and then start frantically swiping at my face. People would cross to the other side of the street. Also, it felt like water would build up in the lashes, no matter how much I blinked. I live in Seattle, so water is kind of an all the time, every day, no matter what thing. So essentially, you had me walking down the Seattle streets, blinking like crazy and then randomly swatting my face. Awesome.

My husband works at the University Rec Center so I get a free gym membership through him and then I clean a yoga studio on Saturday’s in exchange for free yoga classes…gotta save the pennies for running!

Reply

I tried to put eyelashes on and ended up glueing my eye shut. Never again.
I have a gym membership at L.A. fitness and love the spin classes. Although it’s not a 10$ a month planet fitness membership, the classes are definitely worth it.

I give my workout 4 stars. It was Jillian Michael’s Yoga and biking while watching Kelly & Michael. The workout itself was probably 1 star but I have surgery next Wednesday so I added pity party points. lol

Omg Brooke’s lashes!!!!
It makes me so upset when I see long luscious curly lashes on guys because I’m just like BAHHH IT’S WASTED ON YOU!
As an Asian I’ve been doomed with short lashes that point STRAIGHT out horizontally from their roots if that makes sense…my life is a tragedy!

Reply

My workout was 4 stars! I went on one of those runs that reminds me why I run – it was the best me time I could have asked for. And after my run I did laps in the pool because I’m trying really hard to be better at cross training this year :)

I do have a gym membership, which I kind of forgot about for far too long, but I’m working on getting back to it. I go to Celebration Fitness in Celebration, FL and it’s great. They have Body Pump classes (they have a ton of Les Mills classes!) and I used to go to Body Pump all the time… I need to go back! My arm muscles are a little sad at the moment.

Also, now I really want a baked potato with meatloaf…

Brooke. Is. Gorgeous!!

I must say, I dig my eyelashes and am thankful for a decent length. That’s something I can’t live without though..mascara!! No extensions! I’ve heard different stories about that product called Latisse for making your eyelashes longer within like 4-6 weeks or something like that…ehh. I would say don’t bother. :-)

I joined Planet Fitness which is about 15 min. from my house back in Nov. of 2011. I go at least 5 times a week, although these past 2 weeks I’ve been slacking a bit. And if I am reallllly not in the mood to drive to the gym, I will put on Jillian. :-)

Didn’t workout today…but I cleaned the entire house. :-)

Reply

I did the same thing with J Michaels videos and with Insanity (best freaking post baby ‘get my ass back in shape’ workouts, EVER!). I’d have other music or a TV show going to keep my mind occupied, totally helped!
I give my workout -97 stars b/c it’s been about 4 months… BUT, I’m 37 weeks pregnant AND chasing a 2 yr old. SOOOO, after this one pops out, I’ll start getting into the + stars again.

Reply

I think I’ve outdid the Jillian Michael’s shred dvd too. It’s pretty bad when you can quote the workout word for word. I love teaching spin to get the free membership at gyms. The classes alone are so worth it!

Reply

My workout was 3 stars (yoga and a 3 mile walk/hike). Not too hard but just what my body needed.

I have a membership at the YMCA and I go 4-5 times a week. I work with a personal trainer once a week and the rest of the time I take spin, yoga, body pump, or do weights on my own. It is also nice to have access to treadmills when the weather is bad since I don’t have one at home.

Reply

Is it sad that I just heard of eye lash extensions recently? I generally think I am up on knowing a whole bunch of info on different topics – and yet never knew about this!

My oldest son has pretty eyelashes. Total waste on boy unless a girl is whoo-ed by his long lashes :)

Need to get my run in tonight! Thinking a nice easy 4+ mile run. Before hitting it hard for a 5k this wknd.

I’ve been at NY Sports Club for about 2 1/2 years…it’s the closest to my house! And it has a pool, which the former swimmer in me requires just for comforts sake…it’s pretty hard to go swim, even inside, in NY in the winter!

Reply

Never been to bodypump or even heard of it lol! But I do have a gym membership and have had one for almost 5 years, and I go 5-6x a week. Addicted! Currently its with a private gym for employees with my work. Haven’t had my workout today yet, but hoping for a 5 star ! It’s arms/abs/ cardio today. I’m on day 32 of Jamie Easons Livefit trainer. It’s super!
PS Love your blog!!

Reply

Never had eyelash extensions but I’ve worn fake eyelashes for a wedding once and it definitely took a little while to get used to them. I am a huge fan of 7 layer dip and always insist it is available at any Superbowl party.

Reply

That dip looks amazing! I hope you find a spin teacher position :). No workout today as I’m currently on vacay in Austria (woohoo!) but I do currently have a gym membership and love bodypump!

Reply

I am so jealous of my little boy’s eyelashes. I would pay GOOD MONEY for them. And he’s a BOY!! Totally wasted on him.

I don’t have a gym membership. I’m only tempted because of the pilates/yoga classes…I don’t do either and I know I need to. But it’s SO expensive!

Reply

I am a fitness instructor for the free gym memberships! :P

Reply

I miss my gym membership so much! I love the gym but all the gyms around where I live are a total waste of money. They are dirty and disgusting. You have to spend $100 to join a “club” if you want a good gym around here and that’s just not in the budget. I am still a member at 24hour fitness, which I love, in the hopes that they one day come here. My membership is only $24 per year so it’s not a total waste of money.

Reply

I definitely hit workout video fatigue before I diversified (ie bought essentially every Jillian Michaels video, ha). You could try buying one off of iTunes! Ripped in 30 follows pretty much the same format as 30 Day Shred, and is 10$ for four workouts :) I love it. (Actually I love all her videos–they just got better and better [worse and worse?] after 30DS).

I used to love all Les Mills classes, but I had to give up my membership to the gym that carries those classes when I moved to university. Now I use the university gym, not so much the classes that they put on (just one yoga class).

Reply

I give my hill run a 2 today! That dip looks delicious. I miss spin class- come teach one on Maine!

Reply

Hahaha eyelash extensions… I feel like those would be really uncomfortable. I’ve never tried body pump but I think I’m going to check it out this summer. I HATE going to the gym to lift weights. I feel like I look really awkward when I do it so going to a class where the weights are incorporated would definitely make me infinitely faster.
And when her eyelashes look like that, I’d say it’s totally acceptable to be jealous ;)

Reply

Yes I have had eyelash extensions a few times. I like them haha! And I’m also jealous of my baby’s eyelashes so I think it’s normal ;-) and I give my workout a 10 because I saw the most beautiful sunrise of my life and sometimes it’s about more than the physical I think.

Reply

Brooke has beautiful eyes, and eyelashes! I’ve never had eyelash extensions, mine are naturally long.

I have a membership at the Y. I go six days a week. Want to try a body pump class, but they don’t offer them early enough :-(

Reply

Netflix and hulu both have workout videos if you get bored.

Babies have the most beautiful eyelashes! She’s so gorgeous!

Reply

I’ve never tried false eyelashes, mostly because I’ve always been secretly afraid that I would somehow end up gluing my eyes shut. Thankfully I was blessed with long eyelashes so it’s never really something that I’ve had to worry about. Hair on the other hand… I’ve seriously considered getting extensions because I have really fine hair that drives me insane. And lately I’ve just been using the gym in my apartment building, but I kind of miss having a membership… my apartment gym tends to be empty most of the time and I miss the energy!

Reply

I go to BodyPump three days a week. I love it!
My kids have really long eyelashes too – they didn’t get those from me! Brooke is such a cutie!
I love having a gym membership. Mine includes the fitness center, fitness classes, and the kids room! It’s great.

Did you know that they have an at-home BodyPump. It’s by Les Mills and they send you the weights and everything. I have it and love it! Let me know if you want to try it out. I can tell you where to go :)

My sister had this and brought it on our family vacation. Love, love, loved it. I think it’s around $150 for all the videos, bar and weights.

Hey Jackie! Thank you for your comment. I am planning on being a stay at home mom until my kids are in school and then maybe I will go back to teaching. Hope you are having a great day!

I think the eyelashes look pretty on you! :) Very natural!

YES I just got them a few weeks ago for a trip to Napa! HATED THEM! My friend had them and they were MINK LASHES! I guess that is what you are supposed to get, because mine fell off 2 days later and $100.00 later. :( Now i am growing mine back! haha You live and you learn!

This bean dip sounds fabulous! I am making individual bean dips for a party that i found on Pinterest! Evil pinterest………..

I don’t think I could do fake eyelashes … they would drive me bonkers!!

I love that last pic of Brooke! She is such a gorgeous baby!

I just got back from an awesome hill workout. I tried not to push it since technically I am tapering but it was great and I need the hills since the race course (Austin) has lots of ’em. Many stars!

Reply

I’ve never been to body pump, but I’ve always wanted to try it out. Nowhere near me offers it :( I also watch TV while doing workout DVD’s. Once I kind of get the hang of it, I can’t really pay attention anymore.

Reply

Lord that child is beautiful.

Reply

Janae, you need to look into getting BP certified. Yes, it’s a lot of $$, but some gyms will pay for it up front and then deduct the $ slowly from your paycheck. It’s well worth it! Today is my rest day…meaning I only taught 3 classes….I’m dead serious. I rank it a 2.8. Saturday is my toughest workout/teaching day of the wk so I have to recover today. I’ve tried to wear eyelash extensions on Halloween a few years ago. I hated them, but wish I liked them.

Reply

Were the extensions permanently glued to your eyelashes or something you put on everyday? They look great but I don’t think I’d ever have the patience for it!

I don’t really have a gym membership, but I do have a bunch of free guest passes to the fancy gym in town, plus I can use my school’s gym. It’s pretty pathetic, though-3 treadmills for a school of 15,000+ students, and an ice rink for a track. I’m not sure it really counts as a gym!

Reply

I’ve had hair extensions for a year and I love them. Not for length but to add volume. I only have 10 but I really love them

Reply

I use Neulash on my eyelashes and it is amazing! I have short, very light eyelashes, so it is a luxury I can definitely justify. I tried eyelash extensions, but they were a little over the top for me.
I have been reading your blog for a few months and I am so inspired by how much you love running! I started my own blog but had every privacy setting activated so that I was the only one who could see it…until yesterday. I removed all privacy settings, so…it’s out there. http://www.kristinsyogalife.blogspot.com

I don’t have a true gym membership, but I use the gym at my condo complex and my university (i’m a grad student). The university offers lots of classes that I have yet to take… I used to LOVE taking classes when I was an undergrad, particularly Zumba, yoga, and spin. My workout today was probably a 3. I killed my abs and got extra sweaty, so I’m happy, happy, happy! Tomorrow’s run is an 11-miler outside, so I’m hoping that’s a 4 on your scale :D Never had extensions of any kind. I was lucky enough to be blessed with a lot of hair, as well as a lot of THICK hair, so I let my hair do what it wants. I chopped it all off about two years ago, though, and don’t plan on going back any time soon. I LOVE it, and living in Florida, it’s not fun to deal with long, thick hair.

Reply

I am not even sure I had heard of eyelash extensions. False eyelashes, yes.

I do have a gym membership and I go 4-5 times a week, even if it is just running in to do quick weights.

Workout (run) was close to a 3.

Our kids better get my hubbies eyelashes, because they are SO GORGEOUS. Sometimes I just stare at his eyelashes. Not weird at all.

Reply

I used to get eyelash extensions regularly, but it eventually became a little too pricey to justify! I miss them, though! I just had them redone for my wedding, but I’m not paying for refills so I’m going through the horrible “waiting for them all to fall off” process!

Reply

My daughter has amazing eyelashes. Mine are short and stubby and weird. I try to hide them under mascara. Never had extensions.

Reply

I couldn’t live without my gym membership, mostly because I love spinning. I bet you are the most amazing teacher (and that’s only partially based on your playlists). Could you try to teach at the Santa Clara U. gym?

Reply

I actually did try to teach there but they only allow students of the university to teach!

Reply

I’m currently at SCU (part time MBA), but also am a member of 24Hour Fitness…and in my opinion, they could use some new spin instructors ;) There’s a bunch of locations from Mountain View down though San Jose – have you looked at any of those?

Reply

That is awesome! Do you ever see Billy?!? I am currently applying for 24Hour Fitness…. I am crossing my fingers!

Reply

I would totally do a spin class with you!! -crossing fingers you get to teach at my gym-

I have a gym membership but have only gone twice in Jan. Going to try to make it to a class tonight actually. I will be going more often now that my yoga coupon has come to an end :(

Used to go to Body Pump but then it just got so darn crowded. :\

Reply

I have tattooed eyeliner and lash extensions and I rarely wear makeup. Except lip gloss. It’s perfect for my “get up in the middle of the night and fly” job.
Today’s workout was digging my sled out of a snow bank and then I held a plank on it. Winning! And playing!

Reply

I’ve never had eyelash extensions but I have had hair extensions a few times. The last time I got them I had an allergic reaction to the glue, so my real hair started to fall out! I probably won’t get them again!

I do go to body pump classes every now and then, but the squat and lunge tracks hurt my knees a bit, so I’ve stopped going. But I do go to spin classes. Maybe you should come to my gym in Australia and teach a few classes. I’d so go to your classes! It would certainly get me there more often!

I probably go to the gym once or twice a week when I’m running (I like to run outside rather than on the treadmill at the gym). In a week or so I will be doing more weights, so I will be going to the gym more too.

My workout today was a 2.5 star. I had a good 5 mile run and then went to join a group of friends to exercise, but then my IT Band went crazy, so I had to go home early and ice my ITB :(

Reply

I have a gym membership! I go at least 2 times a week – but would like to go more. Right now I can only go right after work just before Max’s daycare closes. I tend to also only go to the gym in the Fall/Winter – spring/summer I mainly go outside!

Reply

I actually just got a temporary gym membership after not having one for six or seven months. If given the option, I just want to run. I love the fresh air, endorphins, and the feeling of pounding the pavement. However, I’m injured right now..probably from pounding the pavement too much. To prevent myself from going stir crazy, I joined the gym to do some cross-training. I mainly use it to go to spin classes, which I enjoy a lot. This morning, however, I just hit up the elliptical for an hour and lifted some weights. Although it was a decent workout, it just doesn’t compare to an early morning run in the dark. I’d give it a 2.

Brooke is so darn cute by the way! She’s growing so fast!

Have a great weekend!

Reply

I have a gym membership(sorta..I dont pay anything since I work there). I go a lot… twice a day isnt out of the ordinary. My boss likes to joke how they are making room for my bed in the office ;) Which is why I dont get to run as much as I used to because that would lead to injury…i’ve learned that I can’t do it all. Finally. No injuries in 2013!

Reply

That bean dip looks amazing!!!

I would rate my workout at a solid 4. That walk to the refrigerator was hard core.

Reply

I have a gym membership (go to Costco and get the 2-year, 24-hour Fitness pre-paid for $300!) but I usually run on the work treadmills and go to a pilates studio for class.

ALSO I just had a thought, my work is VERY close to where you live and has a huuge fitness program and is always in need of spin teachers! I’ll send you an email :) Bonus – FREE FOOD!

Reply

Thanks to Billy for the dip recipe! I might have to bust that one out on Sunday. (I have to refuel from my long run somehow. ;)) Reading about how you’re able to squeeze in workouts around Brooke’s schedule gives me a lot of hope that I’ll be able to keep up with my fitness goals when I (hopefully) have kids in a few years, so thanks for inspiring me!

I really miss working at the Y. The pay may have been minimum wage, but my gym membership was included & the classes were awesome. I wish that I could afford to go there still since their child care is far better than that offered at my gym.

Love Group Power at my gym (which is the same as Body Pump). I am due with my second and since I don’t want to take him to the gym daycare for at least the first year, I bought this: http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/les-mills-pump-workout.do – its awesome! The whole Les Mills Body Pump on DVD and it comes with the barbells that you use in the class!

Reply

I miss having a gym membership too! My building has a fitness center that is pretty good, so it’s hard to justify the extra cost. Group classes are so motivating for me. I need someone to tell me to lift stuff…I have a hard time doing it myself. BodyPump gets the job done.

Fingers Crossed you get a fantastic offer to teach!

I say you need a new home workout DVD to add to your collection! I love Ripped in 30 and No More Trouble Zones by Jillian. Another good one believe it or not, is Strengthen and Tone by Brooke Burke. It is deceivingly hard!!

Also, at home Body Pump by Les Mils is now available but I think it costs around $175. Might be something to look into though since you like it s much.

I have a gym membership although I’m contemplating giving it up for CrossFit- doesn’t look likely….way too attached hah!

Yes I’ve had eyelash extensions. I worked at a spa and got them done for free. I also looked like my eyes were half closed ;). Won’t get them again. When they came off I was bald!!! I love putting false eyelashes on though. MAC makes great natural yet dramatic ones.
No workout for me today. I meant to get out and run but it didn’t happen before dark so I’m pounding the pavement tomorrow morning yay!
Ugh so over 30 day shred. I did it for years and got so sick of it…I’m into bob harper DVDs now. They are very challenging and are an hr long which is great :)

Reply

Didn’t used to have a membership, but do now – and love it. I’m there probably 5-6 days/week.

Also LOVING BodyPump. It’s perfect for an endurance athlete, I think – high reps, and reasonably low weight, plus it moves fast – so you actually get a touch of cardio in there, too. And in an hour, I’ve worked every major muscle group, more or less. WIN.

Awesome workout today: 10 trail miles with some new trail running friends. Winning all around.

Body Pump is the only reason I have a gym membership. Well, I admit that I use the treadmills pretty frequently too – especially when it’s nasty outside and/or my hubby is traveling.

I belong to Golds and love Body Pump! I started in the summer and initially did not really like it. But the more I went, the better it got. I did take an intro RPM class once, but got very winded and my legs couldn’t move fast enough. Any pointers? Brooke is absolutely the cutest.

I used to go to bodypump 3 times a week. I loved it so much. When we got the treadmill, though, it seemed silly to have a gym membership, so I dropped it. I do miss pump sometimes.

My workout today was good. 18 mile long run. Now I’m relaxing on the couch with a sleepy dog.

I am SO sick of the 30 day shred videos but they still give me a good workout so I still do them. Great idea to watch something else on the laptop during them though :). I don’t have a gym membership anymore either, it’s quite sad.

I had eyelash extensions for about 6 months and I got so sick of paying to get them filled every 3 weeks. They were pretty but not worth the trouble for me! But Brooke’s eyelashes are gorgeous!

Um my workout today gets a 0 because I fell asleep while Kate was napping instead. Oops, Saturdays are usually my better workout days too. Oh well!

I am completely jealous of my kids’ eyelashes! My 7 year old daughter and my 3 year old son ineherited their daddy’s amazingly thick hair and beautifully long eyelashes.
