1.  I know you all thought I was kidding when I told you about the candy cupboard in my new apartment but I wasn’t.  I have already made a great start at supplying it with the best of the best.  13 bags of Sour Patch Kids EXTREME (more sour than the normal ones plus they have the blue flavor which are my favorite).  I decided to put the candy  above the sink so that I wouldn’t need to put a child lock on them when Brooke gets older.  This way I still have easy access to it when it is an emergency.  Give me another week to have the thing completely filled.

2.  I have been to Target 4 times this week.  If this newly formed addiction continues to occur I might have to freeze my credit and debit cards.  At least I now have a beautiful purple lamp to put next to my bed;)

3.  Brooke had her first trip to the pool.  One of the requirements for Billy moving me so far away from my family was that we had to have a pool wherever we moved to.  My MIL and I brought salads and we felt like we were on vacation.   I had turkey, cheese, cottage cheese, strawberries and lettuce with italian dressing.

IMG 3843

This is the same size of salad that my MIL made for three of us to eat last night.  For a size comparison here is a picture of me with the bowl, just kind of huge.

4. Today was my due date!  Thank goodness Brooke came earlier because we have already had 9 awesome days together. Added bonus is that I am more than okay with not dealing with contractions right now (me being a little dramatic at the airport picking up my MIL the night before going into the hospital).

5. Please tell me you have had these before?  It is one of those food items that one bag = 1 serving because you just can’t stop eating them especially when dipped into pb.

We are heading up to O-town for a BBQ with friends tonight and then a big family swim party tomorrow.

I had to go to the store today to buy stuff and made 4 dif kinds of chex mix for the weekend (lemon, muddy buddy, cake batter and chewy). Cause, you know, you can’t ever have too much Chex mix in your life.

I need blinders on when I go to Target. Kids clothes, clothes for me, and those blasted dollar bins get me every time.

Your salad looks delicious. My family mocks the size of my salad. I may or may not eat out of a serving bowl.

You are gorgeous and I miss your face!

So, just curious……who was the closest to guessing Brooke’s birthday?

Ahhh I forgot about that!!! Time for me to go figure that out! Thanks!

Just made this. Taking it to a baby shower toomorrw. I put my snickers in the magic bullet and made it super fine, mixed all the ingredients with my beaters. It seems pretty yummy to me. Hopefully it will be a hit toomorrw!

Reply

haha my salads are too big to fit in my largest purse to take to work, so i had to buy a larger purse to fit the salad in. sigh.

Tonight we are taking pizza to our friends and their 3 month old baby girl!

I ran errands and found some good deals at Old Navy, also went to the chiropractor and I am hoping I am fixed up soon so I can run again!

Most recent salad I had was tomato and feta (sadly it was missing cucumbers!)

Reply

We are twins, I had a huge salad for lunch and currently have a bag of those pretzels and peanut butter here at the office for snacks. Love! Your MIL is so cute.

Reply

Ha ha. I discovered honey wheat pretzels made a perfect pb utensil when I was pregnant. I, unlike you, lived almost exclusively on pb for both pregnancies. Yum! And that salad looks gorgeous. I only recent discover that cottage cheese was delicious. I know I tried it in the 80s, but it was probably my mother’s low fat stuff. No wonder I thought it was gross. I haven’t worked up the courage to try it on a salad yet.

We are taking our 2 year old to a Cincinnati Reds baseball game- he has been so excited all week b/c we promised him ice cream… I think he could care less about the actual game :)

Reply

Try dipping those pretzels in cream cheese frosting… the heavens will open up and it will rain pink hair bows and puppies for days. Okay, maybe that’s just me but, seriously, do it.

Reply

I totally LOVE TArget too, and sour patch kids! I haven’t had those in FORever though…must change that soon!

So, tonight, I am PREPPING for my Half IronMan that is tomorrow! AHHHHHHHHHH. Already miss you!

Good luck!!! You are going to do incredible and I want to hear all about it!!!

Today is my due date as well but unlike you I’m still waiting for my little girl to arrive. Hopefully she decides to make her arrival soon as your posts are just making me more excited for having her here. I hope I will be able to be as active as you once she arrives.

I went to Target for the first time in months yesterday, and spent waaaaay too much money! Love that place!

Most recent salad toppings: grilled chicken, goat cheese, medjool dates, avocado. Delicious!

OMG the honey wheat pretzels are the bomb! I can eat a bag a day! By the way welcome to Northern Cali. It’s a great place to live =)

Reply

Those pretzels are so addictive! I completely forgot about them, but I’ll have to pick them up on Monday. They actually got me through my first trimester (along with bagels).

Reply

Your candy cupboard makes me laugh…I have the SAME thing…and it is filled almost exclusively with sour patch kids and sour patch cherries (my favorite). They are one of the few candy’s I LOVE!

I am a huge salad person too…my latest salad creation was last night, and it consisted of spinach, romaine, kale, cilantro, green onion, mushroom, grape tomatoes, carrot, celery, beets, avocado, broccoli, grilled onion & eggplant, all topped with chicken breast, laughing cow cheese, crushed roasted pistachios & BBQ sauce! SO good :)

And those pretzels are amazing…I have had them many times!

Reply

I’m doing nothing tonight! Just got back from an awesome vacation on the west coast and trying to get my body back in order in time for my long run tomorrow. I love being super active on vacation, getting all tired out and then being a veg when I get home :)

Avocados, salsa and nut yeast :)

Reply

I LOVE those TJ pretzels – buy them all the time!! :)

Reply

That salad looks absolutely AMAZING!!! Oh, and I haven’t yet mentioned CONGRATS. Brooke is absolutely precious!

Today, I ran a 10 mile PR and tried out a fabulous new recipe. However, I’m a little sad that I didn’t end up napping because I’m working the overnight shifts this weekend.

Please keep us up to date on how the expansion of stock in your candy cupboard!! :)

I love that you have a candy cupboard—I can’t wait to see it fill up!!! :)

I just have to say that I’ve become quite fond of your blog the last few weeks, because: A. You are the cutest thing ever B. your baby girl is adorable C. You love running AND junk food like a real person and you aren’t afraid to say you’re not perfect and D. You just inspire me. ((((virtual hugs))) from one runner/blogger/mom/ sour patch addict to another!

Reply

LOL! I totally JUST got into a blowout knock down drag out fight with my 4-year-old over those pretzels–I was making him decide between those and his crushers at TJ’s. Ultimately, he chose the crushers. Now I feel like a TERRIBLE parent since they’re good…guess it’s good we only live 5 minutes away!

I love reading your blog…and I’m so happy you are in the neighborhood!
As a runner, I have to share that sugar is the most evil.
Please stop eating that crap for your Baby’s sake.
It’s addictive, and it tears up your arteries and veins.
When you are in your 40’s, you’ll be thankful that you quit.
We should talk…

I love huge salads and I actually had one today. It was kinda plan, though. Just mixed greens, tomato and dressing…..I desperately need to go to the store. I will be going to Trader Joe’s this weekend and will definitely be picking up those pretzels. I haven’t tried those yet. Just relaxing tonight.

Reply

Those pretzels are the best! You should also try TJ’s version of frosted mini wheats… so good!

Reply

Tonite I am just chillin’ on the bed, by far the BEST way to spend a Friday night lol

I did a haircut and pedicure on someone today, I’ve never had a client that just doesn’t talk….kinda awkward, but at the same time, the silence was comfortable, no one was trying hard at all.

I put chili lime chicken and avocado on my last salad, sound bland and boring with just two items, but it wasn’t at all!!! So good!us

Reply

Tonight I am watching Greys anatomy, doing pilates and maybe a HIIT workout and going to bed early as I am back to work tomorrow! My favorite last salad was from Cafe Mexigo and it had lettuce, carrot, black beans, tomato, refried beans and a cilantro vinagrette (amaaazzzzinggggg!!!).

Reply

a drawer full of sour patch kids!!! zack (my husband) would like to come over to your house, thanks!

tonight, zack and i are making a yummy shrimp stir fry dinner together, and staying in, watching a movie and eating lots of popcorn! my favorite kind of night. :)

Reply

Today? Today I have been really bored so I decided to bake. Now I have cookies, banana bread, and roasted chickpeas. I should probably stop soon.

All my salads are pretty much the same. They’re spinach topped with every vegetable you can think of, plus cheese, and whatever else I can find. I like my variety.

I had a lovely day with a good friend who is moving from SF down the peninsula, so she’ll be near me! I took her to my favourite park and cupcake cafe in her new town, and our little boys squealed for an hour in the water fountains in the park. It was a pretty perfect day actually!!!

Tonight is thai curry…and leftover apple & olalliberry crumble. Tomorrow I start healthy eating again :) Once the crumble is all gone.

I’m spending the night on the couch with the fiance. It was a long, busy first week of school!

I am new to your blog, and was introduced by a friend. I am in absolute LOVE with your blogging style, and how honest you are about daily life. Thank you for sharing. Your darling princess is ADORABLE! I have one of my own (almost 2) named Harper Grace. Tonight, I just finished my homework, went on a 3 mile walk with my husband, daughter, and Great Pyradane. Have a great evening!

Watching America’s Next Top Model, I have NO clue why I can’t part from this show! And eating take-out. We are still catching up on sleep from our vacation and fell asleep when we should of been cooking.

I have a complaint. There are not any pictures of Brooke in this post. That is simply not acceptable! ;)

Tonight we are doing nothing, and loving it. I went to the gym, threw a frozen pizza in the oven, and called it a night. Bliss!

Janae, your incredibly positive attitude and happiness is SO infectious! I just love it! Your posts always bring a smile to my face :D
I looove the combination of strawberries and cottage cheese! Perfect on salads for sure. I’ve been eating sardines and salsa on salads lately. Sounds weird maybe but I just love sardines! haha I grew up on them and they are so so good for you. Oh, and I can never get enough salsa in my diet ;)
Luckily things were slow in my office today because I needed to spend a lot of time searching for apartments! Not fun so close to September 1st in Boston! I recently split up with my boyfriend. It was a VERY amicable and mature split… but still very sad and disappointing. I mean, we are both 30, have been together for almost 2 years… and I just cannot imagine myself marrying him or having kids with him, which are two things I want in life! We are just so fundamentally different. Ah! sorry for pouring this all over your blog! Anyway, your marriage with Billy seems to be filled with so much love and respect and your whole attitude and outlook during your pregnancy and towards running I believe is just so balanced and grounded. I certainly look up to you girl! Thanks for being such a great example of real happiness, balance, and what it means to embrace life to matter what it hands you :D

We are riding our cruiser bikes around the neighborhood, and then having ice cream.

Last salad was every veggie in the book with tuna salad and cold mac and cheese on top.

Have a great Friday night.

Watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on Food Network, plotting for places I need visit to eat at across the US! While eating homemade pizza. Fabulous Friday night. :)

PS, I need to get a ginormous bowl like that so I can eat salads the size of two heads!

Janae!!! I have not commented earlier for some silly reason, but I am so so so happy for you and your cute little new family. I love Brooke already and I hope that I can meet her! I want to send her a little gift, so I am going to email you about that! :) You look SO amazing. I can’t believe how active you have been! You’re such a rockstar!

Reply

Just wait until Brooke gets old enough to start climbing and moving chairs to reach the candy! You have a while, but that’s why we have to change hiding places for junk food all the time!

Reply

I need to find these extreme sour patch kids ASAP because, sadly, sour patch kids aren’t sour for me anymore =( I hope they have the extremes in Canada or I might cry (or might ‘run for extreme sour patch kids’ – now that’s a shirt I need!)

I think everyone should have a candy cupboard.

Reply

I kinda thought of you as I ran on the treadmill tonight with hard little fish candies. I didn’t know what colour I was grabbing, but banana was my favourite flavour. They totally fueled my awesome run.

Reply

I love the pumpernickel version of those TJ pretzels. Though I also love those. Really, there is very little at TJs that I won’t eat.

Reply

My 4 year old daughter spotted your candy cupboad right away, that was after she spotted Brooke, and she thinks we need a candy cupboard like yours :)

Oh Janae. How the heck do you do it? You look absolutley GORGEOUS and you had a baby nine days ago. What the heck! I want your secret!

OMG!!! What an awesome surprise to see you in there!! I feel like I have a celebrity friend. And I hope you don’t think I’m a weirdo for calling you a friend, haha. Congratulations! You are always such an inspiration to all of us fellow runners:)

My salad at lunch was A Pear, AppLe and Gorgonzola salad with yummy candied pecans. It was fabulous!
And yes you look amazing for just having a baby.

Hahahaha! That bowl is huge. 13 packets? Why not 14, or 20, or 10? A candy cupboard is a must. Glad you got it sorted!

Reply

Love that salad! And that size is totally hug- go big or go home :)

I love target!! You go in for one thing and leave with 30!!!

Giant salads are the best! I had one for lunch with red pepper, cucumbers, croutons, chipotle hummus, and ripped up pita bread. :) Last night we went out with my parents and my in-laws and had a blast. We had dinner and danced the night away!

Honey wheat pretzels are the beeeest. Especially dipped in PB! It’s hard not to eat the whole bag.

Reply

I seriously cannot remember the last time I ate a salad. Yours looks pretty tasty, though.

Reply

Today, I got a good workout in….20 minutes on the elliptical, taught BodyPump, then ran a slooowww 6.8 miles. I also ate a ginormous salad (you and I could be salad sisters, but we could never share….it just wouldn’t work….). Tonight, my BF and I are going to meet up with a friend of his from the Navy and probably end the night with some ice cream.

Salad toppings were nothing….just grilled chicken on greens with salsa ranch dressing.

Reply

You have to get the Cookie Butter at Trader Joe’s and dip those pretzels in it.
Yummm

Reply

Those pretzels are amazing when dipped in cream cheese or nutella!!

Reply

Trader Joes is my weakness – I swear I find something new there all the time – ESPECIALLY in the chocolate area!

My last salad was topped with sauteed mushrooms and quinoa and grilled chicken and sun dried tomatoes and was sooo good!

Reply

Love the Trader Joe’s Honey Wheat pretzel sticks. Have you tried their 4 cheese Macaroni and Cheese yet? It’s in the frozen section and sinfully good.

Reply

Yum that salad looks delicious!
