Just what the doctor ordered…..

After the bummer race yesterday (I am totally allowed to be overly dramatic about stuff like this) the day’s events were exactly what I needed.  We went home and napped/zoned out in front of the tv for a few hours which was completely necessary and once we were coherent and ready to be real people again we called up my parents to see what they were up to.

We have mastered the art of calling them right before they are going to dinner…it is my sixth sense.

Stop staring at the huge chocolate cake in the background and bring your focus back to this post.

I was the loser of the table because I ordered something different from everyone else (they all had and loved their bbq burgers) but I was more than happy with my decision.

We went to Magelby’s (I used to work there:) and I had the half turkey club and summer salad.  My 7th sense: I can hear what my baby is thinking and she said this meal was exactly what she needed to eat and that she is going to continue to make me crave turkey sandwiches until the end of my pregnancy.

After dinner Billy and I went up north to Thanksgiving Point to meet the cutest Ashley that I ‘met’ through blogging.  First we walked around the gardens and played around with our camera….I am turning into a camera nerd and I like it.

Here she is!!!  She was in town from North California to visit her brother and let us steal her away to meet up with a complete stranger and eat dairy.

I found my new favorite ice cream place.  Meet my cookie dough ice cream with caramel and snickers (the only acceptable chocolate in my life currently) creation.  I promise if you come visit from out of town I will take you here too!

It was one of those life lessons days when you realize that it is silly to get frustrated over a race because there is so much more to life than running and that people in your life make you way happier than some silly race/pr etc.  Besides being dramatic I am totally allowed to be sappy during this time in my life, blame the hormones.

What food places have you worked at?  Did you ever get sick of the food there?

Did anyone go out of town this past weekend?  Where to?

Do your siblings live close by or far away?

Tell me about your workout today!

-I am stoked to be able to go back to my favorite Pump teacher’s class….silly job got in the way of going to her class for way too many months.

Love the hairstyle, especially in the first picture! Today’s workout for me was an upper body personal training session! It was my first one and I am pumped! It makes such a difference when I have someone correcting me on my form!

Thank you sweet girl!! AHHHH great workout and I am so happy you loved it! I want a pt!

You take beautiful photos Janae! Such a pretty waterfall.

We went to Duluth to see my sister. Its about a 2 1/2 hour trek, I wish she lived closer. The weather was awful, but we had fun! I am so excited to go back in a few weeks for Grandma’s marathon:-)

Have fun at body pump–love that class! I have 8×800’s w/1:30 RI.

Reply

Thank you so much Becky! I am so happy you were able to see your sister and I NEED TO HEAR every detail about Grandma’s marathon! Killer workout…I love living through you:)

Reply

I just read your DNF race recap. You did the right thing girly!!! I’m proud of you for listening to your body. You’re a killer racer so I know you don’t want to rest but sometimes rest is necessary! Have a great week!

Reply

THANK YOU SO MUCH KRIS, I really appreciate you and hope you have a great week too!

Reply

I used to work at a pizza place in my second year of college and after grabbing random bites I don’t think I could ever eat their pizza again! Eating pizza I make is a different story though…
Don’t beat yourself up about the race! Like you said, life is about more than running and especially with all of the running accomplishments you’ve already earned, don’t let this little one bring you down. You should be proud that you’re taking the best care possible of your baby and your own body!

Reply

I am SO glad the pizza place didn’t ruin your love for the pizza that you make. Thank you so much for your sweet words, you are the best!

Reply

I really enjoyed this post a lot! The food pictures are great, and I’m glad you got to spend sometime with your family. Have a great week!

Reply

Thank you so so much Susan and I hope you are having a fabulous Tuesday!

Beautiful waterfall photo! I’m glad you’re feeling better today. You did the right thing at the race. Besides, in your entire running career, a DNF was bound to happen. The good news is that it happened because you are going to have a beautiful baby (!!) and not because you’re injured or sick.

I worked at a coffeehouse in college and definitely did not get sick of it. Can you really have too much coffee? I also worked at a smoothie place…still love those too.

We moved a year ago and now my little bro only lives an hour away. It’s really nice to be able to see him so often!

Reply

You are so right! Thank you so much Ashley:) SO happy you didn’t get sick of coffee or smoothies! Yay for your little bro being so close!

Reply

Looks like a great dinner and even better dessert!

The only place that I worked at the served food was the movie theater – and I could never get sick of popcorn!

I’m lucky enough that my parent’s, brother, and in-laws all live within 20 minutes of me!

Have a great day and class!

Reply

I don’t think I could ever get sick of movie theater popcorn either! I love that you live so close to everyone. Hope you are having an amazing day!

That ice cream sounds so good, and Billy’s float is making me drool!

I did 2.5 miles this morning at 6:30 and it was already warm and humid – almost 80 degrees. I’m very glad I got it in early! I’m also teaching SHRED tonight, which combines hip hop dance and bootcamp pretty much haha. It’s always a good workout!

Reply

Way to get up early and workout….80 degrees at 6:30 am…that is crazy. I want to come to your SHRED class, that sounds like a blast!

Reply

Wow, that ice cream looks so good! And you are looking so gorgeous! You have that pregnancy glow!!

I think I’m running a few miles this morning with the Run Club at Lifetime. I ran with them last week, and I loved it because they kept me moving! It’s a lot harder to give up when you’re surrounded by other runners!

Reply

You are way too sweet, thank you Kristen. I hope you had a blast with the Run Club…I want to join!

Reply

I currently work at Starbucks and yeah Im a bit sick of that. I have also worked at a ton of local cafes!

I was in Edinburgh running a half marathon this weekend and also visiting my brother who lives there (answering 2 questions in one!) but soon hes moving to the states to San Francisco so he WILL be far away!

Today i’ll be super circuiting!

Reply

Hope you had an amazing circuit workout! Sorry about the cramping, no sleep and other issues during your half this last weekend but YOU FINISHED…you are incredible to fight through all of that!

Reply

I went to Ohio this weekend to see my cousin graduate from college. It was approximately ten million degrees but worth it to see how happy she was.

My brother goes to college in Vermont so he’s 12 hours away from me in Pittsburgh :( We are twins so it really is like part of me is missing! He’s home for the summer and already sick of me. He’s big on personal space and I’m big on hugs ;)

Today I tried Crossfit for the first time and it kicked my butt! I signed up for a 6 week intro course and I’m really excited to get into a new workout.

PS.. You and Billy NEED to come run the Pittsburgh Marathon or the half! It’s a fun race with tons of crowd support and beautiful scenery. I’ve watched it run by my house since I was little and finally ran it this year– best race of my life!

Reply

You have convinced me…we will be doing Pittsburgh at some point! I need more details about how the race went for you and I bet that was so fun to run by your house:) 12 hours away..that must be really tough. I have been wanting to try Crossfit so bad, so happy you liked it!

Reply

the race was so much fun! I did the 1/2. It was my first race so I didn’t know what to expect but I was shooting for around 2:00. It was a hot day so it was tough for everyone, even the elites, but the crows was amazing and I managed to power through in 1:50! Best race of my life and I will run every year until my legs refuse to carry me anymore. If you come race I will take you to our best fro yo place (which just happens to be next to a waffle shop— no joke!)

Reply

You ran a 1:50 on your first race and with crazy heat!!!!! You are incredible!!! Way to go! Waffles and froyo.. Yes please!

Reply

I went home to VT this weekend to see my bf’s little sis run her first half. She did great despite being sick! If you are ever interested in running a gorgeous BQ course, the Vermont City Marathon is definitely a winner.

My brother lives far away- in Utah! In fact he is graduating from Westminster on Saturday. We will be flying out there on Friday for his graduation then spending next week visiting some of the national parks. I’m so excited!

Reply

SO happy you got to go home and watch your bf’s little sister run! I bet the Vermone City Marathon is incredible, putting it on my to-do list. UM…if you are in provo you better let me know so that we go get froyo!

Reply

This may have been asked already but I haven’t looked at your comments in a while. I just found out that I am pregnant and I thought lunch meat was a no no.I was just wondering if you have them steam it first or if your doctor said it was okay. I’m craving a turkey sandwich big time

Reply

Hey Jamie, thanks for commenting:) CONGRATS on the pregnancy, that is so exciting. My doctor said that deli meat is more than okay as long as it is coming from a good source (i.e. not some random place off the street:) I would definitely ask your doctor what he thinks too…every doctor is different!

Reply

My brother lives a couple miles away! I moved out here mostly because he lived here and it’s a sweet little town, though we’re both busy and don’t hang that often! :-(

I had the weekend off but stayed intown apart from on Friday I went to this sawwweeeeet lake and road my bike around it. Fun to be by water, on trails, enjoying the weather with good friends!

Gearing up to run to the Y, coach my 10k group in a speed workout, run home, probably add a few miles onto that to get in about 11 or 12 total. Thats the GOAL, I will definitely be doing around 9 though…

Reply

Busted out 13! Wooop!

Reply

13 wahoooooo!!! Way to go! I am so happy that you had the weekend off and went to that awesome lake:)

Reply

In highschool I worked at panera, I still will never get sick of panera food!

Reply

I have never been to PANERA……ahhhhhhhhhh! I hope you had the best birthday weekend ever.

your hair is SUPER cute Janae!!!! Also your grandma is ADORABLE :) seriously cutest lady ever :) I definitely didnt focus on that chocolate cake till you told me to STOP staring at it haha

What food places have you worked at? Did you ever get sick of the food there?
Burger King and I will NEVER eat there AGAIN!!

Did anyone go out of town this past weekend? Where to?
I stayed at home and did NOTHING

Do your siblings live close by or far away?
My little brother(whom is a FOOT taller than me) goes to OSU and lives over 2 hrs from me :(

Tell me about your workout today!

-I havent worked out since Saturday bc I have been having lower back pain and Im not sure why :( I feel sick and nasty and I wanna work out :( but my back is hurting :(

Reply

You are so sweet Allie, thank you so much! HAHAH we ate at BK the other day in the airport ha. I am so sorry about your back pain!! It better get feeling 100% soon.

Reply

HAHA it is actually feeling a little bit better. At least I dont wanna somehow donate it and trade it in for a new one!!

I also met up with a blogger that I “knew” online this weekend! She was in Michigan for a wedding and so I drove from Chicago to get breakfast! And this morning I ran 4.66 miles… drove me crazy not to hit 5 but I needed to get home to use the restroom…

Reply

AHHH no fair, I want to come to Chicago and get bfast with you! I know exactly how it feels to not hit the exact number!

Reply

you’re more than welcome any time!

Reply

Of course you’re allowed to still be upset about the race!
We went to Jasper (in the Rocky Mountains) this weekend. It was a great getaway!
My sister lives five minutes from us. I love it!

Reply

Thank you so much Abby…you are the best. I am so happy that you got to getaway this weekend:)

Reply

I worked at Mr. Sub (kind of like Canadian Subway with less yummy bread, but they have mushrooms to make up for it!) when was in my undergrad – and I got SO sick of it!

This weekend I went to the Cape Breton Highlands for the Cabot Trail Relay – it’s a 17 leg relay race covering 276km. It was awesome! 1,200 runners as obsessed as I am, 70 teams, 24 hours of running. Loved it!

Today’s workout is supposed to be speedwork at the track with my running club, but I still can’t walk up or down stairs and I waddle when I try to walk from the relay. I might have to do a recovery run instead!

Reply

Mr. Sub…YUM but I bet you could get sick of it! Holy cow that relay sounds incredible…so happy that you loved it! I think a recovery run sounds perfect for you!

Reply

I use to work at Subway :) I still eat there so that”s a good sign right?! Sorry about your DNF but you were right to stop and walk, glad you have such an awesome SIL to walk with you! You have to recognize those “weird” pains and just go with what your body is telling you, you’ll be running sub-3 hour marathons again in no time! Happy First Day of Summer Vacation to you!

Reply

I don’t think I could ever get sick of that place! Thanks for your sweet words, you really are the best!

Reply

Your ice cream looks so good! I tried to get the Confetti cake blizzard from Dairy Queen yesterday and they were completely out of it! I was so disappointed, but I’m thinking I should have gotten a root beer float, as it looks very refreshing. :)

Reply

I worked at Cracker Barrel. And an Italian place. Didn’t really get sick of either.
No going out of town.
Yesterday was The Murph from Crossfit. 1 mile, then 50 pullups, 100 pushups, 150 squats, and another mile. Today is a rest day.
I live far away from my sister (for now).

I was all over the place this weekend, from Delaware to NJ to NY and in between haha.

My siblings used to live all over the world but my two sisters just returned from overseas. My brother is in the Army in Texas for training so we all miss him.

Today my workout will be PT and a run!

Reply

sorry to hear about the race…yes, we preggo ladies are allowed to be a little sappy sometimes! But I can imagine that must have been hard- especially for us overly competitive folk!! I can hardly stand it when someone is running faster than me on the treadmill :) glad to hear that people are making you smile!! And to answer your question…my family all live in Seattle while I’m here in South Africa :( And I ran 45 minutes today with 24 week baby in my belly!!!

Reply

I went to Springfield, IL this weekend for my friend’s wedding. It was an absolute blast. It’s sort of strange, because she’s my first friend to get married. We’re all getting old! lol

Reply

That ice cream looks amazing!! I used to work at Subway… we would get creative with the food (made pizza with the dough and meatball sauce, haha). But I got more sick of smelling like a meatball (that’s what my dad used to say when I got off work, haha). I also used to work at a pizza place and it was AMAZING and I never got sick of the food.

Reply

Hang in there with your running. You are being smart by listening to your body. I can’t run anymore because I have to pea every 2 seconds. How do you do it?

Reply

HEY ANGIE!!! Thank you so much:) Oh yes, I have to pee a lot but I just don’t drink anything about an hour before I run (probably not the best idea) and that helps out a lot!

Reply

I want that ice cream right now! For breakfast. Yum :)

Reply

glad to hear the end of your day was spent with family :)
Those sandwiches looks really good & I love the blue shirt on you – really compliments your hair.

Reply

hey girl–i read about your DNF yesterday and i’m so glad you made the right decision, you are awesome :) You are going to have a gagillion awesome races in the future and you will have the best little cheerleader now on the sidelines!

that ice cream looks amazing, I’m totally regretting not grabbing some ice cream myself yesterday–its HOT over here!

I worked at Ruby Tuesdays for a summer…I still love the food there though!

Workout today is bike riding…i’m so excited to finally be in marathon training mode now though, although summer training in the heat probably wasnt the best idea ever…hahaha oh well, i survived my run yesterday despite the over 80 degree weather ;)

Reply

I’m glad you had a great day!

I had a 2 month stint at McDonalds because I had to pay my cheerleading expenses my Sr. year in high school. I don’t like anything except for the McFluries, and I could never get sick of those!

I went to lake Sommerville (i think that’s what it’s called) for my first lake experience. It was a nice relaxing day and now the front side of my body is really tan.

My brother is 13 hours away. I only see him about twice a year. :(

So jealous that you have pump today! Today I have pole class then I’ll hit up the park for a few miles. But I’m already looking forward to Pump tomorrow!

Reply

Cute top!! And that ice cream looks sooooooooo good!

Reply

Your hair looks so cute in the side pony! It makes me wish my hair was longer. Leave it to friends and family to put everything back into perspective. You are a smart runner and mama to listen to your body. have a great day!

Reply

I ran for the first time in a long time today, without ankle pain!! Major accomplishment! I’ve been dealing with tendinitis issues since February and haven’t been running at all (sad face). I’ve been doing physical therapy to strengthen my left ankle/leg and it seems to be working! So I am super happy to be back on the running train again, but I’m definitely going to take it easy and go super slow!! YAY! Just had to share that running victory with you! :)

Reply

I worked at Baskin Robbins my senior year in high school. I did not get tired of the food… how can you get tired of ice cream?? I also worked at a little bistro and martini bar for two years in college. That is where my love of anything in a wrap began. I also blame that restaurant for a lot of my college weight gain.

My workout this morning was a great one. I refuse to get up any earlier than 5am to work out. I can run a maximum of 5 miles on the days that I have to work at 7:30 which is what I did today. My pace was a bit faster than it has been lately so that was nice. I’m really focusing on picking up the pace a bit these days. This run was huge for me. It was especially good since I didn’t get my long run in this weekend, for various reasons, and I wanted to see how that would affect me.

Reply

I wouldn’t get tired of eating at Baskin Robbins either, that is awesome! You are right..anything in wraps are amazing! SO Happy you had an amazing workout and a fast pace, way to go!

Reply

I worked at Chuck E Cheese if that counts as food? I always got in trouble for handing out free prizes to the kids..

Reply

BAHAHA I am sure I would do that too! Did you ever eat their pizza?

Reply

No food jobs. I don’t think I could handle people’s strange orders haha.

We spent most of the weekend on our boat with friends. It was heavenly!!!

This morning I did day 2 of Runner’s World Summer Running Streak…. just 2 miles today. I plan to strength train after work.

Did you sleep in like extra late today since you are a free woman?

Reply

Yum that ice cream you got looks delicious!!

Reply

I’ve never worked in the food industry. I’m pretty sure I’m not peppy or happy enough to deal with people all day.

I didn’t go out of town, but my brother is home from Michigan for the summer, so I got to see him, which was awesome!

Reply

I worked at Outback Steakhouse in highschool, but never got sick of the food. Steak? yes. Cheese Fries? yes. Lobster? Yes. Salad? yes. It was all so amazing

I went to lake conroe with friends! It was a lot of fun!!

My brother lives in Seatle and I live in Texas, so we are really far away! All my my in laws live here though :)

I’ll be doing a 4 Mile run after work, and some arms and abs! I’m excited to be able to go to body pump this summer too!!! YAY for no work!

Reply

I LOVE OUTBACK..you are making me want to work there ha. Hope you have the best run after work today! So glad you had fun at lake conroe!

Reply

I have 7 siblings and they are all within an hour drive. We stayed home this weekend. Today I ran 4 miles at 5am, then hit up the gym for a leg workout.

Reply

was it maggie moo’s?? i LOVE that place. i haven’t been forever. this just made me want to go. this also made me realize i NEED a sandwich. after magleby’s and the which wich…i might have to use my prep to go fulfill my turkey cravings.

Reply

Janae I love you! First of all you are the most gorgeous and glowing pregnant person ever and I just love it. I am so so sorry to hear about what happened to you yesterday but so proud of you for listenning to your body. Running is great but at the end of the day you are more than a runner and there are so many things in life that are far more important than running.

Also you and Billy are probably the nicest people ever and I loved seeing you yesterday.

Reply

I worked at Round Table Pizza for 2 years in high school. I was sick of always smelling like garlic and pizza but I never got sick of eating it.

This morning was a great sweaty CrossFit WOD. I’m still sore from yesterday. I’ll be hobbling tomorrow.

Reply

I used to work at Mimi’s Cafe. I unfortunately never got sick of the food (giant muffins everywhere!) that I gained 10 pounds while working there!

That ice cream looks amazing!

I’ve never worked at a food place..weird, I know.

I didn’t go out of town, but my besties came to visit me! It was the most beautiful weekend ever :) So much to be thankful for.

My workout today was SO MUCH FUN. Went to my all-girls bootcamp and we were split up into teams called “Body” and “Roar”. We did sprints, wall balls, planks, pushups, squat thrusts…it was a blast!

Reply

Not going to lie, I kind of really like the fact that I can blame a lot on my hormones ;)
Workout today: Just got back from BodyPump…love it! But I can tell I’m getting winded MUCH quicker, it’s really odd. Not used to it, but I guess that’s what happens when there is a little body inside of you :)

I am so proud of you for stopping your race, you are a great Mommy!

Your ice cream and rootbeer float looks so, so yummy! :) My brother and sister-in-law (who is just like a sister now) live far away and they are expecting their first baby! I miss them so much – we will see how long I can stand to live away from them and the rest of the family!

Reply

Why aren’t we talking about the important stuff. Are you watching the Bachelorette this season?

Reply

BAHAHA You are awesome! I can’t believe I haven’t been talking about it but yes I am watching this season (still need to watch last night’s episode:) What are you thinking about it so far?

Reply

So I am kind of all about Jef (the skateboarding guy with dumb hair) because I think he is actually really nice in an awkward way, but I think Sean (the blonde guy who is always talking about his parents and how he is ready to be a dad) is probably the better match for her.

More importantly than her one true love is who she has to kick off, I can’t even deal with Kalon (helicopter dude) or Ryan (the funky southern guy who think he is all that and a bag of chips). I just wish she would get down to business and cut half these dudes, so we could get to the “real” dates where someone cries, including me.

I need a life.

Reply

Gorgeous waterfall, and wow, the ice cream looks amazing! I worked at Bob Evans in highschool….wow the memories! I never really ate food there and I still got sick of it! I can smell it now, gross! I think everyone should work at a food company at some point though, I have so much appreciation for those in the food service industry!!

Reply

I used to work for a caterer, so the food was always different and amazing. I used to get tons of gourmet left over party food. Perfect for college life.

My workout was CrossFit. Lots of dead lifts and jumping rope. I wanted to run a couple miles tonight but it was rainy and I had to make dinner (responsibilities are overrated).

My sister is in California, but she will be in London this summer (lucky brat). I may have to crash her British soiree and have a sister’s shopping weekend.

Reply

I didn’t go anywhere! But it was kind of nice just relaxing at home, hanging out with my b-friend, my friends, my brother, all that good stuff!

Reply

I worked at Nordstroms Cafe and I got really sick of the food, but I NEVER got sick of the coffee.
I stayed home over the weekend, and enjoyed every minute of it, because my husband is moving to another state for a year in 9 days, and we are trying to make the most of the time we have.
All of my siblings are far away – but that is my fault – I moved away for grad school.
And I got in 5 treadmill miles at a 9 minute mile pace after class today (and got to watch an episode of what not to wear).

my brothers are all in the homeland, so far away..
