I owe it big time + surgery!

I woke up at 3:15 am with my heart pounding and so much fear about Brooke getting her tonsils out. I think Andrew’s job (he works in organ donation… the sad side of it and the stories are so hard) has made me even more anxious about my kids, and there was no chance I could go to sleep.

So, I got up early and ran. A few miles into the run, all of my anxieties disappeared. I felt like everything was going to be okay (it was!) and was able to be in a better place to then be able to help Brooke when I got home. Running does so much for me. I owe it big time.

I’m learning that getting the leg turnover back and some short speed again before beginning marathon training again is the key for me. When the BYU men’s track team was there and told us good job during our 200s, we felt pretty cool.

I misread my workout and cut it short a few 400s, but here is how it went after a few mile warm-up:

Creamsicle was the flavor of the day at the track and it tasted incredible.

Next thing we knew it, we were off to Primary Children’s. This hospital opened a few months ago, and it is incredible. They had everything you could ever need for children to make it the best experience possible.

Her surgery was delayed a few hours, she was so hungry but made it through like a champ.

We watched many episodes from Ryan Trahan, our favorite YouTuber. They gave her Versed to help relax her before going back and we had a pretty funny conversation. She told us she wants a new set of tonsils for Christmas and that we should go to North Korea for our next vacation.

Once they took her back, the surgery only took about 25 minutes and everything went so well.

Here’s to all of the ice cream for all of us for a few weeks.

We made it home just before bedtime. My sweet in-laws took such good care of Knox, Skye and Beck.

Anyone with a May birthday, race or anniversary?

Does running calm any anxiety that you might experience?

Great that her surgery went well. Surf Girls Hawaii on Prime video was really good. Four episodes and cool to see the girls being so focused and strong.

SHE WILL LOVE THIS SHOW! Thank you for sharing, can’t wait to start it with her. Have a great day, Jacinta!

Hope Brooke has a good recovery.

Workouts definitely calm my anxiety. I love to swim laps because I count the laps in my head and it can be a meditative time for me to reflect.

I’m due with my first baby this month but the end of the month so my question is will it be a May baby or come late in the first few days of June?! A little scary not knowing when you will go into labor but just taking it day by day as I have all of pregnancy.

Reply

I can’t believe your first baby is almost here… this month or early next month! I was always terrified of having a baby in the car but luckily, they tend to give PLENTY of warning that they are coming and sometimes take their sweet time arriving;). Beck’s was my favorite because having your water break is such a clear sign that you need to go in! I remember wondering with the girls if I was going in too early etc. I hope you feel good for this final month! Keep us all updated, Alicia!

Ummmm your month is quite busy! I think you need to go over the top with your celebrating this year because 44 on the 4th just feels extra special. Good luck this month! Cheering you on!

North Korea?? Girl’s got jokes!!
Glad everything went well for her as well as you!
Giro d’Italia starts this Saturday. Brook can watch 3 weeks of cycling all over Italy and try to count it towards geography extra credit.
I hope you were able to get better sleep last night!

We were all laughing so hard but she doesn’t remember all of the jokes she pulled out yesterday! Oh, she is going to be tickled to have this opportunity. Checking Peacock now to see if we can watch:) Thanks friend, have the best day!

Feel better soon, Brooke!! Not sure if she would like them, but I’ve been loving watching movies from my childhood on Disney+. All the DCOMs, Princess Diaries, Ice Princess.

Running almost always makes me feel better! Last week I was so stressed from work and went to a track workout with friends and felt ten million times better after.

You just named some of her favorite movies that we will be watching. It’s truly amazing what it does for our mental health, we are so lucky to have it. I hope work this week is going a bit better!

I’m so glad her surgery went well. It’s such a routine procedure but it’s hard, as a parent, to relax when it’s your kiddo!

I have also decided to go for a run when anxiety has me up at ungodly hours of the morning. I used to think I could roll over and just go back to sleep. I’m older and learned I won’t. So I just get up and run! And it always works!

Right!? They told us it is probably done on 100 kids a day in our state but watching her get wheeled into the operating room was not my favorite experience. Yep, we have learned there is no point on trying to go back to bed. Hope you are recovering well from your awesome race this last weekend!

North Korea for your next vacation… Ha ha ha. Those meds can be so entertaining with kids. I’m so glad everything went well! Here’s to a quick recovery.
Running can be so good for the soul for sure! Before my dad died (in 2019), and we knew it was getting close to the end, I did a lot of “crunning” aka crying while running. It was so therapeutic! Running has also really helped clear my mind over the years too, when I have had a lot going on. We do owe it big time! And even when we need to take a break from it, running is always there for us when we’re ready to come back.
I have a niece and 3 nephews with birthdays this month 😊. And my half marathon is this Sunday!
Have a good day and a good couple of recovery days with Brooke.

She was seeing double while on this medicine too! Happy race week. You are back and better than ever. I cannot wait to hear all about it.

I am so grateful that you had crunning to get you through that time. Ugg Wendy, I bet you miss him so much.

Today is the anniversary of my oldest sister’s death-24 years, I can’t believe it’s been that long. I, too ran this morning and it made everything so much better. This month, I have two races scheduled- a 5K this weekend and a one mile race at the end of the month!!

Maureen. I cannot even imagine. I am truly so sorry. Thank goodness for running. It heals us in ways that nothing else can. Good luck this weekend and a mile race too… you are inspiring me to try to find one of those. Thinking of you today!

Wishing Brooke a speedy recovery! ❤
Running def helps me dissipate anxiety & stress!
(Also good on Netflix for you + Brooke, “A Week Away” & “Finding Ohana”)

You are the best. Brooke is going to love all of these recommendations, especially the horse movie.
We owe running big time. It does so much for us. I hope your day is off to a great start, Mel!

Get well soon, Brooke! My kids are much younger, so I don’t have good TV recommendations (does she like Bluey? haha).

My tenth anniversary is tomorrow!

Reply

We watched Bluey at 2 am last night haha! It is a show for all ages. Thank you and happy tenth anniversary tomorrow! I hope you are doing something really fun!

Hope recovery is smooth for Brooke and to all the ice cream :)

Running takes the crazy out of me I like to say lol.. got in a few early miles before work today.

May is my hubby’s birthday and also our 1 year wedding anniversary. Plus mothers day so a big month for us.

Have a wonderful day and lots of time with Brooke

Thank you so much, Kristine! So far things are going better than we expected. I wish it took all of my crazy out but thank goodness it takes out most of it haha. HOW HAS IT ALREADY BEEN A YEAR! It’s going to be a great month for you guys. Have a beautiful day!

So glad the surgery went well! Speedy recovery, Brooke, but soak up the attention while it’s on you ;) You’re as likely to get a hippopotamus for Christmas as you are new tonsils! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjPm0o04lGE

Our 33rd anniversary is May 25th.

Running definitely calms anxiety and it’s also my favorite way to think through problems.

Reply

Thank you so much! Bahah that song gets stuck in my head so easily! Happy 33rd this month! We are seriously all so lucky to have running. Hope you have a beautiful day, Kathy!

Feel better soon, Brooke! I had my tonsils out when I was 15 and the doctors told me and my mom that recovery is so much better when you are younger, so I’m sure she’ll bounce back quickly! I still remember all the movies I watched on repeat when I had mine out – Harry Potter #2, Princess Diaries, and Shrek. Also, I ate all the mashed potatoes (make sure they’re cool though, I did burn my throat on accident!). I played soccer when I was younger and the doctors also told me I’d be able to breathe SO much better once I got my tonsils out (I think it worked;). Happy healing!

Reply

15! I bet that was hard! I love that you can still remember what you watched and ate:). Andrew is on his way home with mashed potatoes from Outback as we speak… she is craving them big time. SUCH a good tip on the temperature, thank you. Okay, I didn’t even think about that in terms of breathing with sports. I am so excited for her!

Oh, sweet Brooke. I’m so glad it went well. I hope she feels better & better each day.

Running absolutely melts the anxiety, I’m glad you just got up and did it!

May bday, and my first born daughter was born on my birthday! Best present ever, and we both love sharing the day. We’re all going out for a nice dinner.

Reply

Thank you so much, Tracy! Your first daughter was born on your birthday… okay, that gave me goosebumps. I love that so much and you will all have the best time at dinner. Happy birthday month!

Get well soon Brooke!!
I find that when I’m anxious or have something heavy in my heart or head that the beginning of the run sucks.. my mind is busy and my body is working hard…but eventually the run takes over and by the end I start to feel better. My dog of 13 years just past away a few days ago, so I still haven’t had the energy to get out the door, but hopefully I will soon.. at least in memory of her… She was my training buddy for my only marathon and pushed me get out the door early!
May is a crazy busy month for us! May 15 is my husband’s birthday, then a week later my younger daughter turns 3 on May 22, and then lastly my older daughter turns 6 on May 28… plus throw in Mother’s Day so I can still be included and we are BUSY! But it’s also a super fun (& hectic) month … my daughter finishes Kindergarten this month, so our first end of school year celebration!

Glad to hear all is well with Brooke, it is never easy with kids! Prayers for easy recovery and calm for you all.

May 1 is my 40th Birthday, so leaning in to “Faster as a Master” and celebrating all month long!!

You got up and ran on the morning of your daughter’s surgery?? I am glad her surgery went well. But I am simply astonished of your messed up priorities. Janae – it just can’t always be about you – as a mother, surely you know this. So sad that you prioritized running over your own child. I cannot follow you anymore after today’s post. I hope you are able to figure this out before it’s too late. I’m sad for you.

Reply

Thank you Jamie! You are so right, I should have never gone on a run while she was asleep! Taking care of ourselves to take care of others is never the answer! How dare I take time to do something for me before I take care of four humans all day!

I started watching Ryan when he was a running vlogger! his success is amazing. I love Kara and Nate for travel vlogs, maybe they’ve been to North Korea :).
I hope Brooke feels 100% soon. I’m sure she’s in great hands.

So glad that her recovery is going well. Great choice with the soup, we eat that several times a month during the fall and winter. I turn 50 next week. My girls are 15,27,19, and 24 but they loved the series, “Just Add Magic” on Amazon Prime…about friends cooking and finding a magic cookbook. They also enjoyed “The Greenhouse Academy” on Netflix. We all loved the School of Chocolate as well. Can’t wait to hear how amazing she feels when she finally has a normal throat to enjoy all the things!
