The rest of the birthday celebrations and all I wanted for my bday…..

The last of the birthday celebrations was a success.  These girls know how to make a girl feel special.

Sleeping for 9 hours straight makes a girl feel real special too.

We did get room service the night of my birthday at about midnight.  I wish ice cream (especially the mint oreo variety) could be delivered straight to my coffee table as a daily occurrence.  In other news, my friends don’t like mint flavored ice cream… they say it tastes like toothpaste.  I guess that just means more for me?

IMG 8761

We got back, picked up Brookers and then went to church and then to my parents’ house for dinner.  Brooke thinks my mom is pretty incredible because of her tomato juggling skills.

IMG 5965

My mom put together a salad bar with all of my favorite toppings for dinner.  She literally is the best.

IMG 5970

My sister and her family arrived and then it was time to eat.

IMG 5979

Baked sweet potatoes, grilled chicken, grapes, cucumbers, cottage cheese, pineapple, peppers, carrots, poppyseed dressing… all of the best things in life.

IMG 5973

We got to work on presents which Brooke always likes to take over.

IMG 6009

My family asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I told them all I wanted was dog gear.  Pretty stoked about it!

IMG 6046

My dad and I have shared our bday dinner parties for my entire life and it is my favorite part of my birthday!

IMG 6058

My mom had cake, date bars (I’ll share the recipe later today) and an ice cream sundae bar.

IMG 6069

Brooke was pretty grateful she had my cousin there to play doggies with all night.

PS I loved watching watching the interview after the Marathon Trials.  Just amazing.  It’s long but I love hearing about the behind the scenes with their rough patches.  I love how they all talked about how amazing Meb is at the end, how positive he is and how encouraging he has been for all of the other athletes (and Meb starts crying…).

Also, a little clip about Jared Ward (he took 3rd for the men)…  I run on some of the same paths that they show in the clip:

Mint flavored ice cream… yay or nay?

What would you choose for your birthday dinner and/or dessert?

What do you have going on today?  Do you have the day off?  Kids home from school?  Nice run outside?  Give me the 411!

Your birthday looks absolutely perfect! Loved watching that interview after the race…so inspiring.

I have the day off which I’m really happy about! I’m going to relax, hit up the gym later, and pretty much do nothing else.

I’ve never understood people who say mint ice cream tastes like toothpaste. I guess that means mint toothpaste tastes really amazing?!

I have to work today, but it is my rest day from running, so I’m excited for a quiet evening at home with my foam roller.

I was glad that Meb took Galen to task for running so close! I kept thinking during the race that it wasn’t a track meet, give Meb some room!

I’m going to have to say a definitive “no” to mint ice cream. Can’t do it.

I have work today, but we have a company-wide team-building activity in the afternoon, so it should be a fun day!

Reply

Not a mint ice cream fan but I love the nightly delivery idea. For me it would be fruit and dark chocolate :)

Reply

I love the salad and ice cream bar idea for family birthday parties! I’m not a fan of mint ice cream, but I don’t like any combo of mint and chocolate chip!

I wish I had the day off, but unfortunately I’m headed to work now and then I’ll come home, make dinner, and head to my run group!

What a special day! Happy belated birthday!

Happy Belated Birthday! Today is a work day for me but when you are a newborn photographer work days are always good days! :)

Best job ever… that is so awesome Danielle!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! It sounds like you had the perfect birthday weekend. The only thing missing is your future four legged member of the family :)

I don’t have today off work, but I wish I did! I had to get up at 3:30am for a race yesterday. Of course afterwards I came home and napped for too long and then couldn’t fall asleep last night! Oops!

Meb is amazing. I always notice how after he crosses the finish line of a race he immediately looks for another runner to congratulate/assist. His kindness and love for running is just so inspiring!

I like mint ice cream, but only a little at a time. Too much mint!

My birthday is this month, and I still haven’t decided where we are going for dinner! Too many options………..

And today I have 5 or 6 miles planned, but it’s pretty rainy and cold so it may feel like more than that!

Reply

Today was a makeup day from the snow we had a few weeks ago, but we are getting more snow, so we are off again! I am going to run in the snow and read for moat of the day!

Reply

I love mint ice cream. One of my faves!

For my birthday dinner I usually go for burgers.many chocolate mousse cake is a winner.

I have the day off today. Yay!

Reply

Snow day today!! I teach at Johns Hopkins and the school doesn’t close for any festivity, so it is nice to have the snow on my side for a long weekend

Reply

I love love love your shirt!!!!!! The heart baseball one :)…where is it from?

Reply

Hey girl! Thank you! My friend actually made them for us (she added the heart on:)

Reply

Mint flavored ice cream is amazing. I would choose pizza as my birthday dinner and a cookie cake for my dessert though!

I am in love with Meb now after the Trials – what an uplifting guy!! And in his 40s, doing what he does! Incredible!

Reply

Mint flavored ice cream is awesome! My guy is one of those people who think it tastes like toothpaste – more for me!

I would probably pick cheeseburgers or tacos for my birthday dinner – two of my favorite meals!

I have the day off today. I’ve got a run and some yoga on the agenda, and I’m making pot roast in the slow cooker for dinner.

Reply

I’m actually not a minty ice cream person. I think my mom liked it so much as kids, and now I’ve grown tired of it LOL. I wish I had the day off work but sad,y I’m still working. At least my husband is too ;)

Reply

Glad you had a great birthday weekend! This morning I ran 4 miles in the snow, and now I am enjoying a lazy snow day off from work:) I love mint ice cream! And Meb is so awesome- Im gonna go watch that interview now!

Reply

Sleeping 9 hours sounds like the most glorious thing ever. Sounds like such a fun weekend! We don’t have the day off from work today so after work I’m planning on working out, making dinner and watching the Bachelor :) best part about Mondays!

Reply

I love mint anything! Bring on the mint and I will gladly accept a nightly delivery of treats! You have some really good friends!

Reply

Mint flavored ice cream…big old YES. Also, mint milkshakes are my jam. It’s a near daily occurrence in the summertime.

Sushi or tacos are my birthday go-to dinner.

It’s pouring snow and sleet here, so a day off school/work. Doing some at home XT (from Muncher Cruncher!) and a whole lotta HGTV in my future :)

Reply

So glad you had a nice birthday! No way to mint ice cream! My son likes it and I can’t understand. I don’t like coffee ice cream either!

Reply

I used to love mint chocolate chip ice cream (especially from Baskin Robbins). I don’t know why I stopped eating it … It’s delicious!

Ideal birthday dinner/dessert –
Dinner: Anything involving good bread and good cocktails :)
Dessert: Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting … What I made last night for Valentine’s Day! So good!

Reply

I love all ice cream… No discrimination ha. I always have ice cream on my birthday. It’s my favourite treat. Yes day off today. Travelling back home with the little guy and the hubby.

Reply

I’m not a fan of mint ice cream, but I’m not much of an ice cream eater over all. I need to watch that interview! Meb strikes me as the kindest and most genuine person out there. No work today, but a run outside depends on the weather.

Reply

Mint ice cream is great, especially if it has chicane chunks in it. My cousins all think I’m weird because I like Apple Jacks and original life cereal. I think they are weird because they don’t.

The 2 year old got big girl panties for her Valentine’s gift so let the potty training begin today! We will see how this goes.

100% YAY for mint ice cream!! Its one of my faves. Creamy but sooo refreshing <3

Reply

mint flavored ice cream is 100% forever and always a yay. it’s my favorite kind hands down. especially with oreos in it. if that’s part of my last meal on this earth, I can die one happy girl.

that’s also probably why I would take birthday dessert over birthday dinner any day of the week. no shame in my game whatsoever.

Reply

I have the day off. I don’t have kids, and I was done with my workout by 7am. So I’m just going to play video games all day! Now that I’m 28, I don’t get many chances to act like an irresponsible college student. I’ve gotta take advantage of those opportunities! :D

Looks like you had a great birthday!

Next time you’re in Vegas I recommend the birthday cake shake at Holsteins in the Cosmopolitan. :)

I have the day off from work today and I am getting my place organized.

Reply

Mint ice cream YES! My favorite combo back when I was a super scooper was Mint and Bing Cherry!

Reply

Aw! Looks like someone had a great birthday weekend!

I love mint chocolate chip ice cream. Yum! For my birthday, I usually request cakes, or cupcakes and hibach/sushi. It just makes me a happy girl!

Reply

I thought you always had lasagna on your bday? Although, the salad bar sounds perfect! Happy Birthday!!

Reply

I usually do (great memory!!!) but we switched things up this year:) Thank you!!!

Reply

You need to wear that color in the first picture more often. It makes your eyes pop! I’m the same as your friends, mint does not belong in my food. It’s strictly toothpaste for me.

Reply

So glad you had such a wonderful birthday!!

Reply

Yay! What a fun birthday! Your dinner looks so good! I am not a mint chocolate chip ice cream fan either, I just don’t like mint. Today we are traveling, which means I get to read blogs while we travel. :) I hope you have a wonderful day!

Reply

I love mint ice cream, especially with oreo pieces in it! I think your friends are a little crazy (it so doesn’t taste like toothpaste) but oh well, more for you!
Birthday dinner: whatever my favorite restaurant is at the moment with good drinks
Birthday dessert: ice cream cake, always ice cream cake (from Dairy Queen is the best)
I’m off work today but babysitting this afternoon. Gotta make money somehow!

Reply

I love mint anything! Mint Oreo ice cream and 9 hours of sleep sounds like heaven!

My birthday dinner is either a lobster roll (I’m originally from Maine) or fried chicken (something I only eat on my birthday!). I’m not a huge cake person, so I always want Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food frozen yogurt or their Peanut Butter Cup ice cream.

No school today for President’s Day and a snow storm! I have really cute pictures of my dog and puppy playing in the snow.

Reply

I’m actually not much of an ice cream fan at all… If I am going to have some, it should be cake batter flavored.

Your birthday dinner looks pretty delicious to me! The only thing I would add would be some kind of homemade bread or muffin… maybe cornbread, or blueberry muffins…

I don’t have the day off from classes, but I still got in the best-feeling run I’ve had in weeks! Perfect weather, pain-free legs… I did 14.75 miles, and the only reason I stopped was because I was out of time!

Reply

Such great bday! I love mint ice cream – but also love PB flavored ice cream – so it is a tough decision!!

Reply

I love mint anything! My husband and I have the day off so we are running errands, cleaning the house, and taking the pups to the park!! Enjoy your day!!

Runners World to the rescue! I found this right after I posted that comment: http://www.runnersworld.com/olympic-trials/shalane-flanagan-on-dehydration-delirium-and-drama-at-the-olympic-trials

I love her description of crossing the finish line. I can’t imagine how scary that must have been to be barely coherent through such a huge moment in life.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Off to read it now:)

This post melts my heart!!! So much love and fun on your bday!!! That’s what it’s all about…friends, family…sharing with loved ones and creating memories.
Good food, cake and ice cream don’t hurt, either!!!

My husbands favorite ice cream is mint CC. I can’t stand it!!! I remember as a kid spitting out the chips (and saving them for my dad — so weird?!?!).

I’m a plain Jane when it comes to ice cream. Gimme vanilla or chocolate and I’m happy!!!

Mint ice cream rocks! You sure had a kickin’ birthday :)

Currently I’m cuddling a sick baby while the sick toddler sleeps. I just got over the “sick” and now it’s passed on to my family :( I love baby cuddles, but sick baby cuddles make me sad! I have a tempo session the running plan for today… we’ll see if I can hang on to my motivation til later this afternoon.

Your birthday celebrations are epic – it’s so nice that all of your family and friends make it so special. My husbands birthday is coming up I’m a few weeks. He bought himself a new garmin watch and water ski, but you have given me some extra ideas to surprise him. He actually loves choc mint ice cream too!

Just working today – everyone’s a bit grumpy this week so hoping to perk everyone up with some positivity. Normally I run in the mornings but my tummy has been a bit funny the last few weeks so trying to let it settle/do it’s thing in the morning then run after work but it’s so much harder after a long day!

Reply

Happy belated birthday! I had to work today (boo!), but the office has been quiet given that a lot of people took it off. I’m not a huge fan of mint ice cream and kind of understand what your friends mean (sorry!), but I wouldn’t pass on it :) Enjoy your day!

Reply

150% yes to mint chocolate chip! I’m looking forward to watching those videos after work…the scenery looks gorgeous! All of the 6 runners are incredible. Runners are the best kind of person. Just my opinion.
I think I would have to go with Mac n cheese and mint chocolate chip ice cream cake for my perfect bday dinner…but for my 30th in December my best friends and I met in Chicago and had take out pizza and sprinkles cupcakes…close second.
Wish I had the day off! Especially after working through my entire vacation. Lame.

Mint is the only flavor of ice cream that exists in my world ;-)

Happy birthday to you! Looks like the perfect celebration!

My 9 year old loves it. I can’t stand it. I always say to her when she eats it “I guess you don’t have to brush your teeth!”

Looks like you had a great birthday. Your 30s are off to a great start!

What a special and fun celebration!!

Happy belated birthday, Janae! Hope you had a great day!

Reply

Breyer’s mint chocolate chip ice cream for the win! I once saw it for sale at The Good Earth, so basically it’s like eating health food. Happy birthday!

Reply

Hope you had a very happy birthday!

Thanks for the link to the videos of the post-marathon interviews, I really enjoyed watching it.

Reply

no on mint ice cream i have to agree it tastes like toothpaste. although i did have a peppermint gelato macaron ice cream sandwich from the french ice cream shop in epcot and it was divine so maybe ive just had a nasty mint chocolate chip ice cream!

Reply

Happy belated birthday!!! Mint chocolate chip ice cream is my absolute favorite dessert!
