A long run in the pool and subliminal messages.

Thank you so so much for the sweet comments about the video in the last post.  You guys are da best.

——————————————

There was this one time when Candice and I went to the rec center at 5:50 a.m. on a Saturday morning so that we could start our long run (in the pool) by 6 and when we got there the entire parking lot was empty.

They didn’t open until 7.  7 on a Saturday!?!?  People actually sleep in a little on Saturdays?

So we laid out our towels (ps can you believe how light it is early now?) and put 8 Minute Abs (this will NEVER get easier for me) on my phone and did that followed by a bunch of push-ups and fun stuff like that until they finally let us inside.

We did 2 hours of pool running and talked the whole time…  Our ‘long run’ flew by.  My leg is getting better and I am not limping quite as much as I was earlier this week so I am thinking there may be a happy ending to this marathon actually happening in less than a month.

PS I have to admit, I am actually really enjoying pool running (not as much as normal running but it is by far my favorite type of cross-training now).

Straight to the park with the Brookers after I got home.  Getting ready is overrated.

IMG 1568

And then hours later I was exhausted (running + water resistance = I am tired) and so during Brooke’s nap I started a new book and ate treats in bed, what I do best.

IMG 1541

Brooke is constantly sending me subliminal messages…  carrying the box of donut mix all around the house.  We are going to just have to make these today.

IMG 1580

Fun date out at Outback:)  Coconut shrimp—>  next time I am just going to order myself 5 plates of those.

 IMG 1581

And of course I got my usual steak and potato.

IMG 1582

Finished up with a walk to the waterfall in the canyon.   Hopefully, in less than a month I will be running right past this waterfall during the marathon…  You are crossing your fingers for me that my leg is 100% by then right?!

IMG 1585

Get some extra rest and relaxation today!!!

————————————–

What was your long run/race/workout this weekend? How did it go?

Steak… yay or nay?  How do you like yours cooked?

Three things that you are doing today?

-church, pancakes and refer to picture above with chocolate and a book for the third thing.

No long run this weekend for me! Still nursing a sprained ankled. LOVE steak. My BF is obsessed with Outback and requests it every year for his bday ha.

Three things… going to see my baby cousin, hanging with my family until they leave (in dc for the weekend!) and then a little girl time in the city in the afternoon. Perfect Sunday.

I wonder about empty parking lots when I start running too, I guess not everyone is up at 5:00 AM on weekends to go for a run, like us. I wouldn’t trade it for anything though, especially so I can be with my kids for the rest of the day.

I love the bread at outback! I am a huge fan of sweet potatoes but for some reason don’t like outback’s :(. I got a 6 mile run in this weekend, trying to work my mileage back up. I am hoping to run another half or full marathon in the fall.

Reply

Heading out for my 16 mile run soon :) THEN I will be resting and relaxing!

Three things I am doing today: Running, eating, working.

Steak – yes!! Medium rare for me!

I am no running until at least Tuesday. Had a nasty case of shin splints from old shoes an never really rested my leg – so I ended up limping on Wednesday’s run – to rest for me since I have a half marathon in a weeks time :-(

Reply

Crossing my fingers and toes for you! I couldn’t run more than 4 miles a week before my marathon in September, and I did it. So, I have a good feeling. :)

I love steak….medium well, thank you!

Today, I’m going to start preparing for my personal trainer certification (so excited!), go for a bike ride with my sister in law, and then barbecue. Have a great Sunday!

2-mile run for me yesterday–easing back into running after a VERY long injury. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a good run, and I’m probably going to take another week off before trying again. :/

Today: church, family dinner, yoga.

Reply

Do you wear a belt when you water run?

Reply

Yesterday I had one of the best long runs that I’ve ever had- YAY!! If only it was race day.

Reply

I loved Gone Girl!
My only run this weekend was 9 miles yesterday. I’m marathoning in 6 days!

Reply

Heading out for a run right now! I don’t like steak at all. I made delicious quinoa chickpea burgers last night with zucchini fries. Then having some fro yo later since it’s 105 here!

Reply

I actually did back to back long runs this weekend – 11 yesterday and 10 this morning. Normally I run a bit more on Saturdays but didn’t have time so tacked some miles on this morning instead! I used to love my steak medium rare…

Reply

I have never tried water running, but see people at the pool doing it all the time. It seems so different! Hopefully it’s speeding up the healing process for you before your marathon. I’m sure you will be ready to go by race day.

Because the weather is supposed to be really crummy (which I actually don’t mind) my plans for the day are to clean house, get in a ride on the trainer, and curl up with a book! Happy Sunday!

Reply

You’re going to love that book! It’s one of my all time favorites and NO to steak. I do eat meat, but never steak… yuck!

Reply

I can’t wait until you start telling us more about your dates. ;) How were the donut holes?

Reply

That book is amazing, yet the most frustrating and hair pulling book I’ve ever read. You better plan to do nothing else until you finish. Then make a post about it so we can discuss it. You will NEED to discuss it!

Do you uses running belt? My parents are getting a pool and I envision pool runs but I can’t tread water to save my life. Literally.

Reply

Did a 10 mile progression run yesterday and loving the weather by me this weekend. I am definitely a steak lover, grassfed ribeye is my favorite.
Watching both my daughter’s in their dance recitals today, so a proud mommy moment sunday :)

Reply

No run this weekend but lots of weights.
I love steak, on the rare side of medium rare please.
Three things today: Leg day, cleaning closets, drinking wine while folding laundry.

Reply

I can’t stand steak! Everybody thinks I’m crazy but I don’t like red meat! I only ran 4 yesterday and 4 today because I had a race on Friday. I’ve heard lots of good things about that book, you must tell us how it is!!

Reply

Had a pretty good 9 mile run yesterday.
Love steak, medium for me. Don’t have it often though.
Hiking with the fam today! Always fun for everyone! :)

Reply

I discovered yesterday morning that my four legged running buddy just can’t keep up anymore :( He’s a ten year old boxer that still acts like a puppy, but his trot is too slow and his sprint is too fast and I end up dragging him along half the run, so I’m gonna have to start going solo from now on. Other than that, yesterday’s run was great, we’re having perfect weather right now!
– Steak – medium, yum!
– run, chruch, and having friends over with their kids to BBQ and enjoy the above mentioned beautiful weather ;)

Yes, fingers are crossed for you!!! Your are doing a great job with resting & rehab! Keep at & you’ll be running a great marathon next month :)

Reply

I’m hoping to get a long run in tonight (5 miles, long for me!). I haven’t been able to run due to an awful cold!! I’m glad you’re feeling better!

I just started reading your blog and I love it!!

Today is my birthday, so I’m going to relax, relax, and relax!

*I will probably actually do some things too, but relaxing is the #1 goal :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I did a 6.5 mile trail run yesterday. It went really well! I’m supposed to have a long run today, but my stomach is a little off this morning, so we’ll see how it goes.

Today I am doing laundry, hopefully running, and hanging out in the sunshine!

Reply

I feel pretty damn sure you’ll be 100% for your marathon. You are keeping your fitness up while challenging your body to water resistance. I bet you’ll be stonger after all this…

I’m still on the DL so no running! (I have only run 2 times (4 miles each) since 4/28 and this is a whole new type of challenge! #goingstircrazy) Hoping to be cleared for some cross-training though by Tuesday…

I love steak medium rare!
Today I’m headed to trader joes for food for the week. I’ll also keep chipping away and cleaning out the garage and maybe wash my car just to enjoy our beautiful spring weather.

Grocery shopping, laundry and BBQ at my parents for my nephew’s birthday

Reply

Love steak! Medium rare for me :)

I’m getting good vibes about your injury healing but I’ll send some crossed fingers your way anyway!

Reply

Kissed my husband goodbye and came to MT to see my nephew graduate. Two totally separate reasons though. Sad day.

Love steak. I just had Outback a few days ago. I love their grilled shrimp…I could die it’s so good.

I’m off to the graduation, I’m going to run and maybe…hm…I don’t know what else I’ll do today.

But you were RIGHT. I DID have my fingers crossed for you. You are incredibly smart.

Reply

I just finished that book last week and it is crazy! Pool running isn’t so bad. Hope your leg heals for your marathon.

Reply

My “long run” was 5 miles, haha. I’m not training for anything at the moment so I”m just doing what I feel like.

I do like steak! Medium rare, please.

Three things: ruining my oatmeal with sour milk (that one’s already done), playing with my dogs, and being an extra in a movie!!! Random, I know.

Reply

Long run today..12 or 13 miles. I am wearing my compression socks now to help my legs make it this evening!

I love steak, well done only though. Sometimes when I have too much fruit or sweets all I want is meat! And a steak is the best thing then!

3 things: hmmm…my long run, paint my toenails, watch Mean Girls. (or maybe Austenland, or Easy A……..I am in a weird girl movie mood today!)

Reply

I know I’m a sappy goob but it makes me happy to see you in such an awesome place and having fun dates! You totally deserve it! And I know you’re going to blow your marathon out of the water!!! :D

Reply

That parking lot doesn’t look like the AF rec center, but I know theirs doesn’t open until later on Saturday’s too. Why? Because I made that same mistake. Only I didn’t have a friend to make the best of it with and I just got super pissed instead. Ha! I am so glad your leg is starting to feel better and you better believe me when I say I have my toes, fingers, arms, legs and anything else crossed that you will make it to that starting line ready to get your sub 3.

Did you finally finish Divergent? When are we going to have ‘book club’?

I did Turbo Fire at home yesterday morning for my work out while the kids slept. Ross was running a 5k so I could leave (ross’ first race!) I am sure that I am a sight to see jumping around and punching in all my pregnant glory.lol

Reply

Oh my gosh that book is crazy and well written. I’m curious to know what you think of it when you’ve finished it.
To answer your questions, no long run today due to my stupid IT band but went hiking around City of Rocks instead.
The perfect steak for me is medium-rare. So delicious!
Three things in the plans for today: church, naps, treats. In that order.

Reply

I love a medium cooked steak.

I ran a little yesterday but I am sore from Friday’s squat and deadlift workout. I haven’t figured out the perfect leg day that will allow me to still run. It’s probably time to drop how much I lift.

Church, sharing time, dinner, walk by the river.

Reply

glad to hear you are feeling better. i just bought gone girl- im excited to read it!

I did 30 min tempo on saturday and 11 miles today. both by the water down the shore. both runs went great!

Not the best but it’s my only day at home this week!

Reply

Why is snacking in bed so amazing! My favorite thing!
Steak. I could have it every day.
No run this weekend. I traveled back to Utah from NYC. Today I am unpacking and being grateful. Nothing like being away for a great adventure to come home, grateful for a perfect life.

I’m about to start Gone Girl, too! Book club when we finish? :)

Still praying for your leg!

Saturday was my cycling day and Sunday is rest.
Love steak & eat it at least once/week.
Today is sunshine, beer & baseball @ the Rockies game.

P.S. glad your leg is on the mend & I hope you enjoy Gone Girl!

Reply

Yay for your leg feeling better!
My long run was a little over 7, I’m not training for anything until Aug, so I’m taking it a little easy.
I’m not really a meat eater, and typically only want it when my iron is low.
Church + BBQ + nap = a perfect Sunday!

Reply

I’m glad your leg is healing, didn’t realize you were limping?!

Yes, but very rarely to steak (once a year)

Run + my first daughter and I share a birthday (tomorrow), she was the BEST birthday present EVER, we are getting massages (she will be 17) and manicures + Kara’s cupcakes!

Have a great day :)

Reply

Wishing you the best of luck with your leg! I’m positive it’ll get better in time for your race. Since the weather is being lame today I will stick to cleaning and snuggling up on the couch with a good read. Ran a good 7 miles yesterday and boy did it feel great. Thinking of your outstanding mile time motivated me to do even better. You’re such an inspiration! Have a great Sunday!

Reply

I need to try pool running since it sounds like a great workout!

I used to never like steak until my husband took me to a nice steakhouse a few years ago and I had good steak for the first time. I used to eat my steak cooked well but after going to a few different steak restaurants, I now like it medium rare!

Today I’m going to a street fair! Enjoy your Sunday!

Reply

I had my first half marathon yesterday, and it went great! The course was a little hilly, but I can say that I have officially caught the half bug and I spent a good chunk of my day yesterday researching more half’s and even marathons :)

Reply

No red meat for this little lady…doesn’t agree with my tummy. Yesterday I ran 9 miles finally in a tank top (weather slowly warming up) and this morning did a tough spin class (love it) with some kettlebell and circuit training.

We’re spending the day at our friends camp site and doing bbq this evening.

Sending healing vibes your way.

Reply

I ran my “long” run yesterday and even though it was only 8 miles it was my quickest yet. My legs felt really good!

Reply

2 hours of pool running?! Were you a total prune by the time you got out?? I LOVE how light it is early in the mornings now :)

Reply

I love how y’all passed the time waiting for the rec center to open – great use of time!!!
Steaks – medium to medium rare (I like them pink!!!).
Definitely hoping for the best for you with your injury and being able to run the marathon in a month – you have had such a great training cycle up till now – I hope it all works out!

Reply

Two hours of pool running, wow! Love that you do what you gotta do! :)

14 miles yesterday and easy threesie today. Both were great runs!

L-O-V-E steak! Medium rare, please.

Eating froyo (a new place just opened right around the corner…uh…), watching the Blackhawks win, bike ride.

Reply

Gone Girl is GREAT! I hope you enjoy it much as I did. I don’t generally pick up best sellers (guess I’m a bit of a snobby book nerd!), but I am so glad I grabbed this one – I have been recommending it to all of my friends since I flew through it! Already went out and bought another of her books :)
Good luck on the recovery – I am just coming off of calf problems (recurring microtears – ugh) myself, and I hope to start getting back to normal(-ish) running this week!

Reply

Oh my gosh I went to Outback last night and got steak and coconut shrimp too! Too funny!

And three things I’m doing/already did today: 1. Going to my sister’s track meet 2. Going to a graduation party 3. Watching Game of Thrones!

Reply

Loved Gone Girl! Can’t wait to hear what you think.

Reply

My run today: did a 24k trail race. Both my first trail race and my first 24k! Went in so nervous but loved it! The whole ride home I was smiling like a loser and kept thinking, “I CAN do hard things!” Wonder where I got that from lol.

Reply

I ran 9 miles on Saturday…much less than a usual long run but I’m not training for anything so decided to make it a cut back week.
I enjoy steak once in a while…my favorite is filet mignon, cooked medium.
Today I went to yoga, got a mani/pedi, and went out for pizza. I am about to enjoy some birthday cake that I made for my husband for his bday!
I can’t believe you did pool running for 2 hours! I have never tried it before but I just bought an aqua jogger and I am going to try it next week when I am in Florida! (We have a pool at my in-laws house so I can practice without other people seeing me).

Reply

Watched your amazing video before my 10k race yesterday! Loved it!!
I want that steak now medium.
Recovering from 10k. Looking at my 8 year olds race photos his first 5k in 26 minutes! I was so proud!!

I hope your leg is better ASAP! Ill say some prayers for you!

I ran my second half marathon today! It was a beautiful race in Washington; left me feeling really lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest. :) So glad you’re keeping up with your cross training… and that you’re making donuts. YUM.

Reply

That book has been on my “to read list”! Today = run, work and siesta.

Reply

Yes, fingers are crossed that you can run the marathon next month!

Three things today:
1. I didn’t run because I woke up to 36 degrees and I had only taken running shorts and a tank with me to visit my mom.
2. I rode in the car for six hours coming home from our visit.
3. I had the best burger at Burger 21 for dinner tonight!

Reply

I sooo want to try pool running, along with the underwater treadmill. 8 minute abs makes me smile every time I do it, come on gang!

Reply

No steak for me. Not a red meat lover- my boyfriend cringes when I say things like that ;) No run this weekend for me :( I have been having some knee pain so I’m playing it safe and avoiding running for a few days.

Reply

We only did one thing today: Mountain Play on top of Mt Tam. (it’s an all day kind of event) It was South Pacific this year. Such an amazing venue and talented cast.

Totally keeping all digits crossed that your leg will be stronger than ever!

And I loved your video. Didn’t get a chance to see it until today, but it’s perfect!

Reply

Yes! You are absolutely going to be running past that waterfalll during your marathon and u will feel great!,
I ran the Capitola half Marathon today, Santa Cruz to Capitola and back. Smallest half I have ever run. Perfect weather, nice views and great volunteers. Definately recommend it.
I spent the rest of my day with my family doing tourist SC things, Mystery Spot and the Boardwalk. So much fun.

Reply

When you do your pool running, do you use any equipment (weights, etc)? Or do you just run as fast as you can through the water? I’ve tried it a few times and find it kind of difficult, ie I sort of ‘bob’ up and down! I’ve got a bit of a hip issue now that makes running a little painful, so i’m going to ease up for a week or so, but I don’t want to lose my marathon conditioning (running Chicago this October :). THANKS! P.S. I love your blog

Reply

I love steak, not all the time but a good steak every now and then is needed. I really need to find those Salted Caramel Clusters. I have been on a salted caramel kick lately including a salted caramel cupcake this weekend!

Reply

I am crossing my fingers that you will be healed and back to 110% by then!

How do you like Gone Girl so far?

Reply

I did the Muir Woods Half Marathon on Saturday then added on two miles on the beach to hit 15 for the day. It was an incredibly challenging race but worth every hill because it was gorgeous! I loveee steak and of course want your leg to be 100% for your marathon!

Reply

Gone Girl is a great read!! I’m so excited you are reading it. It is really really crazy!

Reply

Ah! I had those coconut shrimp on Friday on a date. They were a hit! So yummy.
