They just belong together.

Day #5 of our 25 Days of Christmas Traditions was a fun one.  We went down to Harmons (my favorite grocery store in the world besides Trader Joe’s) and picked up food to donate to the local food bank.  Brooke was just happy about the whole deal because she got a sticker.  For free.

IMG 4999

Paige has been out of town for a little while (she is not allowed to leave again) and she brought back the best Joe-Joe’s for us.  Peppermint and chocolate belong together.

PS I want her dog so bad.

IMG 5001

We got home and we were ready for dinner.  We snacked on snap peas while getting dinner ready.  Brooke likes to measure her veggies to make sure she gets her 5 A Day.

The other day I tried snap peas dipped in guacamole and it was delicious, my mom thought I was crazy.

IMG 4998

We don’t mess around when it comes to waffle irons.

IMG 4997

Once Brooke went down to bed I hit up the movie theater with Candice (we met through the internet 3 years ago… we are cool like that).

Gravity.  Go see it.   I was stressed out the entire movie but I kind of like that for some weird reason?  Sandra Bullock was amazing as usual.

Kettle corn is always a must when we are together.

IMG 5009

I have seen more movies in a theater in the last month than the last 5 years combined.

We made a pretty good dent on our kettle corn.

 IMG 5003

Best license plate ever.

 IMG 5008

Just a little slippery out.

IMG 5007

Another treadmill run for me this morning.  I wonder if I will ever run again outside in the year 2013.  Probably not.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! What are your weekend plans?!?!

Eek that weather!!! I am spending a few weeks in upstate NY with my parents this year and the weather is in the teens and just like that. They don’t have a treadmill though and I am forced outside.. BRRRRRR. DC is the best for a nice non snowy / icy winter!

Reply

Great activity for day 5! I’m jealous your movie theater has kettle corn! Ours only has the butter flavor. This weekend we are driving to the hill country for a family getaway. I can’t wait :)

Reply

That parking lot is quite the ice rink!!! I for some reason thought Gravity was done in the theatres, so that’s good to know b/c I want to see it!
This is the only weekend in 5 weeks where I don’t have major plans, so I will be catching up on things such as housework, Christmas shopping, and the ever-important task of watching Netflix!

Reply

Yikes, that parking lot is what Memphis might look like this weekend! Hope y’all are bein’ safe out there.

Supposed to be runnin’ St. Jude Memphis Marathon tomorrow, but everybody is freaking out about possible ice. St. Jude officials say they’re gonna make a call 5 AM on race day. Crossing fingers everything’s a go. This is supposed to be my Big goal race.

Reply

Whoa, just a LOT slippery out! Seriously, your weather is crazy to me. We get down to maybe the upper 20s if we’re lucky, that’s about it. I can’t imagine how cold you all must be. Stay warm!

Loving your 25 days of Christmas traditions btw, super fun.

Reply

I haven’t ran outside for 2 weeks! I miss it.. the treadmill just isn’t the same. But it is way to dang cold.. ps why does happy valley have to be an hour away from me? Id hang out with you every night.
Miss you!
have a good run!

Reply

Oh my goodness! That parking lot scares me!!! Be careful. Brooke is so cute. These Christmas traditions are so awesome. She’s going to look back one day and love these traditions. They will make Christmas special.
You better stay on that treadmill if that’s what it looks like outside. Not worth risking an injury.
I’m going to make a gingerbread house with my daughter and host a bridal shower for my cousin. Somewhere in there I need to squeeze in 15 miles ;)
Happy Friday!!!

Reply

Wow, that’s a lot of ice! I love going to the movies and haven’t been since before Annabelle was born….11 months ago!

We are heading to the Eastern Shore tonight and I’m racing the Rehoboth Half Marathon tomorrow morning!

Reply

Those peppermint Joe-Joe’s barely last a day in my house! I know they will be going in my cart tomorrow, along with some other season favorites at TJ’s.

That parking lot looks ridicoulous to manuver. So much ice!

Thsi weekend, I am working tomorrow morning. Then my youngest has her first basketball game of the season. Hoping she doesn’t get hit in the head and bust open her stitches! Then I have to take other daughter to a football party and then to a formal 16th birthday party at the country club. Hoping to run at the gym sometime in there!

Sunday is church, Christmas shopping and another indoor run.

Reply

So excited to post, I forgot to spell-check. Ha!

Reply

Kettle corn is the best!
I’m running in a Santa Shuffle tomorrow – and then heading out of town for the rest of the weekend

Reply

I cant run right now so im exploring the relams of work outs and… loom knitting the heck out of some scarfs. odd, yes. but such a wonderful stress reliever!

Reply

Whoa, and I thought we had bad winters in NH! That ice in the parking lot is INSANE!!!
This weekend I’m exploring a new trail with a friend and decorating for Christmas!

Reply

Brooke honestly just get more beautiful by the day! She has the best smile and eyes!

I can’t believe the ice is like that. Usually by now we have temps in the low 20s-30s; today is a high of 64 degrees! Hey I’ll take it! I’ve been running in shorts and a light long sleeve t all week! However, tomorrow it will be in the 30s :( !

Reply

I can’t go see Gravity because my husband informed me one of his greatest fears is being lost in space and just seeing the previews stress him out. Didn’t even know that until now!! My weekend plans are going to involve a lot of hanging around the house. We’ve gotten a big snow storm, and everything in my part of the world shuts down when that happens!!

Reply

That weather looks terrible! I hope it warms up a bit for you. At least you have an awesome treadmill to run on!

Reply

Your weather literally scares me. Yikes!

Weekend plans – Christmas movies, cleaning and baking. :) And hopefully, a little running.

Reply

Yikes! That ice is no joke! I saw Catching Fire last night and I think it’s the first movie I saw in theaters since the hunger games.

Reply

it looks like you could go ice skating on that parking lot! I would be a hermit and never leave my house, driving in in-climate weather gives me ridic anxiety!

Reply

That looks like our weather down here. I am in TX and just so not used to this. It’s crazy! Stay warm!

Reply

I saw those Peppermint Cookies in Trader Joe’s and wanted to get them, but didn’t, and now I feel like I need to go out immediately and get them, like now! I think Brooke wants to keep the dog too haha. Yum! Snap peas dipped in guacamole sounds super good!! I have a take home final, so that is exactly what I will be doing, oh and doing my Aunt’s hair, that should be fun :) Happy Friday!

Reply

We’re supposed to be getting that weather tomorrow! I’m thinking I’ll be heading to my parent’s for a treadmill run as opposed to running outside. darnit. I never go to the movies.. spending so much money on a ticket is ridiculous. It costs like $13 for a movie ticket here! For both my husband and I, it’s too much.

Reply

Oooh kettle corn in a movie theater?! That’s awesome! Hmmmm my weekend plans hopefully include going downtown to a tree lighting ceremony tomorrow night!

Reply

My husband got me a treadmill for Christmas, and since he couldn’t hide it, I got it already. I seriously run on it every minute that I’m not doing something else. I love it sooooo much! I instantly thought of you when I got it. It’s not as fancy as yours, but it does the trick. I just run and run and run while watching Netflix and I’m like, “This is like my hero Janae!” — although I’m running A LOT slower than you.

Reply

girl if my ground looked like that I wouldn’t be running outside either!!

Reply

YUMMM!!! I’m dying to see that movie, it looks so good!
You will run outside again, don’t give up the faith!!! :)

Reply

Wow, that is a slippery parking lot! I wouldn’t take the chance running outside and slipping and falling if I were you. At least we still have treadmills during the winter to get some running in! Your theatre serves kettlecorn?! How cool!

Reply

WOW! The ice on the road… is that safe to drive on? I guess it must be, but I would be so nervous. That’s what I get for living somewhere where the weather never drops below 60 haha.

I agree on Gravity! It was very stressful but Sandra B. did a great job. I thought the movie was good but then I thought about how she basically carried the entire thing herself and realized it wasn’t just good but great!

Reply

20 mile run. These photos remind me why I measure my time in Minnesota in summers…

Reply

I’m doing a 5k race in Lake City tomorrow morn. I wonder if they’ll even have it considering the negative 30 degree forecast for tomorrow. Thinking I’m going to have to buy some ski goggles–what do you wear? And you’re doing 20?! I’m hoping you’re going to opt for the treadmill (even though that sounds dreadfully boring….) Good luck!

Reply

Love your idea of the food donation tradition! Very fun and a great way to teach Brooke to give and be generous. She’s just the cutest.

I finally went to go see the new Hunger Games movie yesterday!!!! Ahhhh LOVED it, just as I suspected I would. It’s actually only the second movie I’ve seen in the last eight months which is nothing compared to the number of movies Cody and I used to go see. Guess a baby will do that to you! ;)

Happy Friday, Girl! XOXO

Reply

Wow that ice is crazy!! The sidewalks get like that here in Ottawa and therefore I rarely run outside from December until March – boo!!

Kettle corn is so good!

Reply

Gravity is definitely on my list of movies to see, I love Sandra Bullock. Although I’m finally seeing Catching Fire this weekend, which I’m excited about!

Reply

I’m suppose to drive from Cincinnati to Chicago this weekend but if it’s going to be like that picture of the icy parking lot I may pass on the trip. I love Brooke’s little toothy grin-so cute! And I really wish my theatre served kettle corn!! Have a good weekend!

Reply

Loved Gravity!!!! Wow, it sure is icy there. If it were like that here in Texas, there would be no cars on the road.

Reply

I thought Gravity was really intense and I thought the movie was great. It has given me a little fear of ever being out in space, but thankfully going out into space will never be something I will have to do.

I have a very busy weekend. I am picking my husband up from the airport on Saturday as he was been away for two weeks with work (I did visit him for a week though). Then we have to come home and get changed to go to a friends fancy dress birthday party! I cannot wait as I am going as a Glee Cheerio and he is going as the Cookie Monster!

Then on Sunday I have a half marathon!!! I am excited and nervous as it is my second half marathon I have ever run (the first was back in 2010).

Reply

Can’t wait to check our gravity!

Reply

I’m pretty well snowed in here in MO, but I have every intention of making it to the mall so I can get my 35% off of Bare Minerals. Ohh boy.

Reply

I’m planning a long run on Sunday which will most likely be on the treadmill due to the super cold temperatures that just rolled in and possible snow. I mentally have such a tough time on the treadmill taking a quick walk break each mile or by doing 1/2 mile intervals with some weights in between to break it up. I’m getting better though! I would like to go see a movie this weekend, any excuse to eat a tub of movie theatre movie I love!

Reply

i’m helping put on a 5k this weekend! it’s going to be hard to be at a race and not actually run it, but i feel good about helping other runners race their hearts out :). that ice is insane :( sorry you’re stuck on the treadmill!

Reply

Work Christmas Party.
Christmas shopping.
A long run!

Reply

You are such a wonderful mother! Brooke is going to love these traditions more each year.

Reply

I love seeing your Christmas traditions with Brooke. Such special memories for you both! I’m running a 7 mile trail race tomorrow. I have not been training hard or training much on trails but it will be a fun last race of the year. That ice looks serious! Enjoy your weekend :)

Reply

I feel like we JUST finished the rounds of Thanksgiving dinners and activities and we are already into the many Christmas dinners and parties! We’ve got a semi-formal dinner for the Squadron this Saturday and the Children’s party Saturday morning. Any ideas to keep 25-40 kinds under age 2 occupied???

Reply

Whoa that parking lot scares me. Yikes.

This weekend I’m going to watch CIM in the bitter California cold (prob 20s or 30s). I’ll miss cheering for you.

And Paige is holding out on you…there are CHOCOLATE-COVERED peppermint Jojo’s. That girl needs to share the really good stuff ;-)

Reply

Oh I hate when our roads get like that !I take my dog out and it is ALWAYS an adventure because I am scared I’m going to fall and break something every time! It’s always so much fun! lol

Gravity was a great movie!

Reply

I would break my neck in that parking lot! Stay safe!

Reply

This weekend I plan on going for a long run and then when I finish that I’ll probably go running and then I’ll probably run a little more. I might actually really love to run. a lot.

Reply

Your movie theaters have kettle corn? That’s awesome!

I love that idea for your Christmas tradition with Brooke!! Way to help those in need!

Yeah, running outside on an inch of ice sounds not ideal!!

Reply

How on earth did you get out of that parking lot Janae?? Or better yet, how did you not slip and fall? I’m such a clutz when walking on anything icy or snowy. Love Brooke’s leggings by the way, do those come in my size :)

Reply

I love that you guys donated… that is one of our favorite things to do together, especially the food bank. It is fun to volunteer there too, we sorted cucumbers, eggs, and all of the Holiday donations, it was a blast!

I feel like I need to have a day at the movies- Gravity, Hunger Games… keep it coming! :)

Reply

I do not like popcorn but I like kettle corn…I think because it’s sweeter?

People who have seen Gravity have told me not to see it because I get migraines and they think the space will give me a migraine. I want to see it SO BAD.

I have a half marathon in the morning and it’s predicted to be freaking -5* outside. I’m not very excited.

Reply

I am going to confess something. I have never been to Trader Joe’s. No, never. But those chocolate peppermint Joe Joes will be mine. Oh yes, they will be mine. Trader Joe’s, here I come! (Well, not today, but Saturday! Yes!)

Reply

They have Dark Chocolate Fudge covered Joe-Joes too! So good – especially when you put them in the freezer :)

Reply

You have never had good guacamole until you have tried my guacamole. A few small secret ingredients make my guacamole “slap yo momma good!”

Running 18 this weekend. Going to be very cold here (for Houston’s standard’s) so it is likely that I will be doing it alone (usually my 6 year old boy rides his bike with me).

Reply

Our roads look like that too… only buried under a few inches of snow. Yaaaaaay. Haha! I’m totally craving waffles now… especially since I’ve been sick and barely eaten in 2 days. Everything sounds amazing ;)

Reply

Yay for donating! Such an awesome Christmas tradition to have. I fill up a couple of shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child every year, and it’s seriously one of my favourite things to do.

I’m kind of kicking myself for not going to see Gravity while the boy was in town. We were going to see it, but ended up going to Catching Fire and Frozen instead. Looks like a girl’s night at the movies is in order. Maybe this weekend since it’s pretty much going to be impossible to do anything outside. So.darn.cold.

Reply

That ice looks dangerous!!

This weekend is a busy one! Tonight I have my yearly all girls Christmas party with some of my best girlfriends. We get together and drink wine and sangria and do a fun gift exchange. Tomorrow is Christmas shopping during the day followed by another Christmas party that evening. The party on Saturday is hosted by my fiance’s good friend. It is always great to get together with good friends to share some laughs and fun times! Sunday we will head to church and spend some quality family time during the day.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Reply

I love your christmas traditions! They are so fun. That parking looks crazy!

Reply

Wow, I didn’t realise it got SO cold in Utah!! I’m having a festive dinner party tonight, then have a Christmas work party on a boat tomorrow night! Have a great weekend!

Reply

Love that license plate!! And we are going to get our Christmas tree this weekend :)

Reply

That ice looks scary!

Reply

Seeing that picture makes me dread the upcoming winter. It got down to 3 degrees this morning and a ‘feels lik’e -10. I hate the cold :(
Gravity was super good & like you said, super stressful.
I’m seeing Catching Fire tonight FINALLY and am so excited.
No fun plans for weekend cause duty calls–army drill. bahumbug.

Reply

Yikes! That looks scary! I was totally complaining about the 27 degree weather this morning. Seriously, it took about 40 minutes to fully regain feeling in my fingers. That’s what happens in So Cal, we are such babies about extreme weather.
I’m running Mr. Toad’s Wild Race tomorrow, it’s a crazy loopy trail run.

Reply

I’m starting to doubt that I’ll get back outside in 2013 myself! Denver is friggin’ FREEZING and our roads and sidewalks look very similar to that. That’s just ASKING for a broken bone from this grace queen…

Reply

I’ll be taking my dog to the dog run for their annual photos with santa day because everyone needs to have a picture of their dog with santa but mall santas really should be for children right?!

I’m also planning on addressing my holiday cards and putting up my tree.

Reply

Gravity is a great movie but I had anxiety throughout the whole thing!!!

This weekend I am headed to Galveston with some of my best girl friends to celebrate my birthday! So excited!

Reply

Yikes it is cold out there! Brooke is way too cute, I love seeing pictures of her! I love your waffle iron btw, so fun…I still haven’t tried making cookies and potatoes and everything else I pinned that you can do with that machine.

Reply

We have the same weather here in Ohio right now and I am really not a fan! Today I got in a great sweat workout and then heading to work all day… where of course they don’t turn on the heat!!! BRR!!

Reply

That ice!! Wow! Be careful!! It’s icing over in Dallas today, which is blowing up my facebook feed since I’m from there, but in Seattle it’s nice and sunny, albeit cold.

Reply

Sugar snap peas dipped in guac sounds AWESOME! I’m definitely trying that out.

Reply

That is a crazy amount of ice! Very smart to stick to the treadmill – maybe give up driving too and just ice skate everywhere! Woah!

Reply

Honolulu Marathon on Sunday! Sadly, I’m not running it (injured) but my husband is on the cycling team that will escort the wheelchair racers. They are first on the course. I’ll be hanging out with thousands of other spectators at Ala Moana Park for the start and Kapiolani Park for the finish.

Peppermint is a must in December. Chocolate + peppermint = perfection!

Reply

Wow that ice is no joke!! If we had that kind of weather here, I would hibernate all winter.

Reply

You can get Kettle Corn at your movie theater!?!?!? AMAZING

Reply

WOW!!!! That weather looks CraZy! It’s still pretty warm in N.C compared to what I’m used to at this time of year.

This weekend I’ll be headed to a book selling thing to personally stand behind the stand and sell my book! :) Also planning on a 20 mile run on Sunday, :)

Reply

Omg that ice is making me nervous and I’m nowhere near it!

Reply

That parking lot is freaking scary! I can’t believe you ventured out! I don’t really want to see “Gravity”. I have this weird thing where I don’t want to see movies but for no real reason. Even if everyone says it’s amazing, some movies I just can’t get interested in. Kinda also like “Toy Story 3”. No one can believe I a) haven’t seen it and b) don’t want to.
I digress. Dipping snap peas into guac is totally legit. I love to dip veggies into all the things meant to be paired with chips. Then I can eat more dip.

Reply

HOLY ice! That looks crazy dangerous. I wouldn’t last on my feet for .2 seconds on that ice.

Weekend plans are to soak up as much time with my little doggie before she makes her big flight to Australia on Monday :(

Reply

I knew you would like those Joe Joe’s. Now try the dark chocolate covered Joe Joe’s…….life changing.

Reply

If it wasn’t so cold I’d go visit you (to eat kettle corn).

Reply

Happy Friday! This weekend I NEED to start my Christmas shopping — time is flying by!

Reply

Guacamole is great with ANYTHING.

I am wondering, will you get a dog in the future? Brook seems to love them so much, and, good running partner too?

Cheers, Lou :)

Reply

As soon as I move out I will!

Reply

Sweet tradition for today!

Loving the look of pure determination on Brookes face with that scoop!

I have those same joes joes in our pantry right now. Yes they do belong together. Have you ever had the maple leaf cookies from trader joes? They are another family favorite here.

Um, how do u walk around on that ice? I dont even know anything about that and if I come up there next week to see my siblings, I dont even think I have any appropriate shoes. Yikes!

Happy (fat) Friday! (My kids know this is my relaxed day to eat treats so thats what they call it.) :)

Reply

I’m feeling like a wuss because it’s a snow storm outside and my hubby won’t let me drive to the gym to hit the treadmill and do a yoga class. :( And I think i’m a fair-weather runner b/c I don’t wanna run in that storm!

Reply

Dang that’s a lot of ice! I’d be on the treadmill too. I will run in the freezing cold, but NOT the freezing ice!

Reply

Ohhh my gosh, that ice on the ground stresses me out to NO END. I would literally die. How do you even walk there? HOW?!

xo

Reply

I love that idea of going to get food for a shelter!!

Holy smokes?! You guys got a ton of ice/snow down south. Wow!

Reply

Race with my 4 year old tomorrow! It’s a 1km santa run I’m very excited! Also have movie plans and a Christmas party. Great weekend ;)

I’m sad I probably won’t get to run outside for the rest of this year either. It’s so cold here and the snow drifts r ridiculous.
Love your 25 days of Christmas. That’s awesome.

Reply

Mint & chocolate is my favorite! That ice looks scary! I’m doing a half on Sunday! I’m excited but its supposed to be 36 and rainy.

Reply

Happy friday to you too! I don’t think I will ever run outside again this year either :( :( I want to see that movie!

Reply

Hello!! I’m a new follower of your website!!! I LOVE your blog…it’s a combo of my two favorite things: running and food!!! :) Brooke is so cute!! You’re so lucky to have a TJ near you…I don’t have one anywhere near me…
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi!!

Sooo icy!! Be careful lady.

PS – Kettle corn is the best and always a must. :)

You need a dog!!! What a great tradition. I am visiting my grandma in Rhode Island this weekend.
Does having to run on the treadmill frustrate you at all?

Reply

Hello! I’ve been reading food/fitness blogs for a whole but am very new to the whole blogging experience and I just wanted to say I am a huge fan of yours! Your posts always can make me more motivated and excited for running and they brighten everyone’s day :)

Lots of ice! Drive safe…LOVE that license plate.
My weekend plans is a long run with my running club. And our neighborhood Christmas Parade is tonight! And of course our weekly pizza and movie night : )

Reply

Wow, that looks more like a skating rink than a parking lot! My weekend will be a nice long run (though like you it’ll be another treadmill one), curling up with a new book, dinner with my family and I’m hoping to go see Catching Fire as well. I’m soo excited about that!

Reply

I’ve heard so much good things about Gravity! Now.. do I see that today or Catching Fire?! I dip my carrots in guac. So yummy!!

Reply

we had a 5k this morning and it was 9 and the windchill was -4. Not horrible, but for my 6 yr old, he did great.

Reply

I loved Gravity too! I was screaming the whole time, I was surprised I didn’t get kicked out.. I was soo into it

Holy ice! That is insane!!
