It’s not coming off.

Brooke’s best friend in Florida sent her a dog hat and Brooke will not take it off.   There really is not a human being in the world that likes dogs more than Brooke does.

Exciting news of the week.  My sister just got a new car and it is big enough for us to all fit in it (before we had to take separate cars to go places whenever we had all of the kiddos).

Llife is real good when my sister is chauffeuring us all around town.

Somehow all of my bffs are the best chefs.  Paige made a meatball soup that was from Our Best Bites Cookbook for dinner and it was so so good.

IMG 4263

Almost a month later and they haven’t eaten their Halloween candy?!?  I have taken it upon myself to finish it off for them before Thanksgiving.

8 hours later and it is still on her head:)

After Brooke went to bed I went over to the sister’s house to watch ridiculous tv shows until way too late.

I am getting in my long run for the week this morning.  One of our good friends is moving and we decided a ‘long run goodbye party’ would be the best way to spend our time together before she leaves.

And for the random question of the day…

Screen Shot 2013 11 20 at 8 31 12 PM

Where are your race medals?  Do you display them?  What do you do with them?

If you could choose:  would you pay less for a race and not get a medal or pay more for a race and get a medal?

Last TV show that you watched?

Do you get a real or a fake Christmas tree?!?

Brooke is so cute in her hat; I hope she took it off to sleep!
I have my medals in our basement but most of mine are from track way back in the a day. We have the medals we’re really proud of, like our first marathon and first ironman, hanging in the stairwell on the way down to the basement. It’s unfinished but where all our workout stuff is!

My old roommate got me a medal hanger that says “I WORK OUT” I love it and it is totally full! I also bought a car this week small work…

I would rather get a medal, I like to show off my awesomeness.

Last TV = Extreme Couponers

Fake Tree all day Err Day.

PS brooke is getting so big and gorgeous!

That hat is adorable. Brooke can come play with Molly whenever she wants to. :)

I really want a sport hook to hang my medals on. I put that on my Christmas List this year…yes, I’m 31 and I still have a list :).

Hmm, last TV show. Property Brothers! I am addicted to HGTV lately.

Have a great long run!

LOVE that hat! And the idea of a long run goodbye party – best goodbye party ever :) !

Reply

I will admit, I run races for the medals!
Love the hat, shes so stinkin cute.

Reply

I volunteer, but the hub races which means he has medals. He keeps some in a shadow box in his office, and others in a plastic box.

Yesterday I walked into his office only to see our little girl playing with his medals on the floor while he worked. It was the cutest thing and brought the biggest smile to my face and heart.

We have a fake tree. It’s small and humble. Though, if we really wanted to, we could decorate a 60 foot high live tree, for they surround our house. Maybe when our daughter is older we’ll decorate the trees outside- or pick one to decorate!

Reply

My medals are hung on a hook inside my closet. I would definitely rather pay less for a race than get the medal/shirt!

Reply

Seeing that picture of your tree up makes me totally want to bring mine out as well, but I’m trying to hold off until December first, since it’s kind of tradition to put it up on that year. Not gonna lie, though — the other Christmas decorations may come out this weekend. And while I love real trees, I have to settle for a fake one because my building doesn’t allow us to have real ones… so I just burn a pine scented candle ;)

Reply

I donate my medals to Medals for Mettle: http://www.medals4mettle.org

I would definitely pay less for a race and not get a medal.

Last tv show I watched was ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Real Christmas tree!

Reply

I donated all mine as well! I had them hanging around the house or tucked in drawers, but after a while, I just wanted to de-clutter. My dad has run something like 40 marathons and spent so much time and effort trying to come up with ways to display his medals, I just didn’t want to get into all that. Plus, someone else is (hopefully) enjoying them more than I ever did.

I’ve got the race time in my athlinks profile–that’s all I need!

Reply

I would rather pay less and not get a medal. I usually cut off the ribbon and turn the medals into Christmas tree ornaments though :) last show I watched was Big Bang Theory. Can’t get enough of it!

Reply

That’s such a great idea!!!

Reply

Love Brooke’s hat!
I rather pay more and get a medal! I am not a fast runner so I really like those medals when I get them :)
We always go with my family every year to cut down a real Christmas tree. It’s always so much fun….although I could do without all the pine needles all over the house!

Reply

you might want to invest in another hat, in case that one needs to be washed ;)

I keep my medals and bibs in a box in my nightstand. My kids love to play with them! I’d love to get something to hang them on eventually.
Last tv show = Revolution
Fake tree that already has lights on it. I’m lazy and my kids are impatient to decorate it so it works for us for now.

Reply

I love Brooke’s hat! It’s very cute!

I have my husband’s and my marathon medals handing on cafe rods in my basement gym. I’m a personal trainer and I like to think that the medals are inspiring to my clients. Some weren’t runners when they started working with me and have since run multiple 5K, 10K, and even halves!

Reply

I’ve kept all my medals and bib numbers from the last year and hung them on a bulletin board. it’s pretty fun to look at and see the accomplishments! I’d rather pay more for a medal at this point – they’re still fun to get!
Real trees have always been a tradition in my family!
Last tv show was Biggest Loser!
I think I might be signing up for the cape cod Ragnar may2014!
Have a great day!

Reply

I have all of my halfs in a shadow box and each marathon is in its own separate shadow box with the bib. Our guest room is the “trophy room.” I’m also working on stringing up all my bibs to go across one wall :) pride!

I would pay a little more for a medal for a distance race. Each one has a memory.

I just started watching modern family. where has it been all of my life?!

Reply

What is a shadow box?

Reply

Love Brook’s dog toque! I keep my medals on what used to be a key rack next to my door, so that I see them every time I go out for a run and remember my running goals. I would rather pay more and get a medal. I like the tangible reward. I’m not usually extrinsically motivated, but when I’m in a difficult race and the thought creeps in that maybe I should just quit, it’s the thought of not getting my medal that partly keeps me going.

Last tv show: the Goldbergs…oh my goodness SO funny!

Xmas tree: fake. I might get a new one this year so I can have one in my classroom too!

Reply

Brooke’s hat it to cute! I’ve always wanted a medal holder, but right now my medals are stored up in my closet. Congrats to your sister….and you on the new car!!

Reply

That hat is really cute!

My race medals are just all jumbled together hanging in a corner of my kitchen. I would like something to display them. I don’t run tons of races, so I really like getting medals. I would definitely pay a bit more for a race to have one.

Real Christmas Tree all the way! I grew up with a real one, and I just can’t imagine it any other way. Besides I love going out and picking/cutting our own. Its a nice family tradition!

Reply

I have a bulletin board in our bedroom where I hang race bibs, pictures and medals. I also made Christmas ornaments out of some of my medals to hang on the tree!

I would gladly pay less and not get a medal. In fact, I often do free races where you don’t get any swag and little aid. You still have the same amount of fun though!

My husband and I always get a real tree and always cut it ourselves, usually the day after Thanksgiving.

Reply

I love the race bling! I’ve been known to choose a tough course with an awesome medal over an easier course with a wimpy medal. I display mine on a custom medal holder from Medalhangers.com. That says: “run hard, finish strong”

Reply

I love getting medals and I recently received an Allied Medal Hanger to review and one to give one away on our blog! They are a great product!

Reply

One of the reasons I do long races is because there are medals. There is just something about them handing you a medal and know that you earned it.

I made (when I say made, I mean painted) a coat hanger type thing to put all my medals on. It’s quickly becoming too small. I’ll have to get a new one or something pretty soon! Not a terrible thing…

Reply

Modern family was the last show I watched and I wan to put up my tree ASAP!

Reply

Definitely LOVE my medals, they remind me I can accomplish a lot if I work hard! Mine currently sit on the Bowflex in our basement that doesn’t get used very much but it’s right next to my treadmill so I can see them!

Last TV show I watched was Heroes. My husband and I didn’t watch it when it was on originally so now we’re watching it on Netflix binge-style.

Fake Christmas tree! My dogs would eat a real one. Or pee on it.

Reply

My running medals and numbers are in my classroom on a bulletin board to inspire me every day. But I have a new job at my school (VP) out of the classroom -which is still decorated. I just took my Chicago marathon medal off the wall to take home so right now it’s in my purse! LOL-anyone want to see it?

Reply

You already have your tree up!!!!
My medals are hanging over the mirror in our bedroom. That is actually a tough question…maybe half and half. It is funny, I have always thought I don’t really care about the medal…but it is nice to have and helps me remember the race.

Reply

I have only two medals: One from the Bay to Breakers 12k that is MIA, and one I received recently by placing second in my age group in a local 5k. I have that one hanging on my dresser mirror. I’d like to collect a few more and get a nice hanger for them! I like having a nice souvenir like that :)

We’re going the fake tree route again this year. Ours has the lights already built in, which I absolutely adore and makes it all worth it. I have an extreme dislike of untangling cords… takes me back to being a kid and spending hours untangling necklaces for my mom.

Reply

Brooke looks so cute with her hat on! Good thing she has a dog to play with every day!

I actually would pay less for a race and not get a medal. I don’t display any of my medals or trophies or anything. I actually write my race time on the back of my bibs and then chuck it into a huge box in my linen closet upstairs. The other day I saw an awesome idea (I don’t remember if it was on instragram, Facebook, or pinterest), but it was to take all your bib numbers and put them on your wall instead of paint. I’ve never really displayed anything but I thought it looked awesome. I may do that in my guest room!

Reply

That hat is so cute! and Brooke in adorable!!
Last tv show I watched was homeland, so good! Real Christmas tree! We are going to get one the day we fly back home so we can have one in our house for Christmas, can’t wait!

Reply

Brooke is too stinking cute with or without the hate! Someone get her a dog already!! :)

We have two wooden curtain rods. One for me and one for my boyfriend. And the last show I watched was Criminal minds last night.

Reply

My medals are in a closet, so I would rather pay less for a race with no medal. I prefer the race shirts anyways!

Last TV show I watched was Beauty and the Beast on the CW

We used to get a real one, but now with a dog and toddler, we do a fake tree.

Reply

Well that hat of Brooke’s is darn cute!
I would pay more and get a medal, for me, because I do the shorter races, I have to work hard to get into that top 3 to get a medal, so it shows and reminds me of all the hard work that went into the race. Mine are displayed on rod on my wall, just hanging there. Last TV show I watched was survivor last night!! Love that show :). Fake tree! Let’s just say, my cat loves trees apparently haha ;)

Reply

I am SO glad that your sister has her Christmas tree up right now because I have been wondering if I really need to wait until after Thanksgiving to put mine up. Now I know the answer is no :)

About the medal I think it depends. When I do charity races I would rather not get a medal and have all the money go to the organization. When I do a regular race I like to get a medal!

Reply

Where are your race medals? Do you display them? What do you do with them?
Yes, we display them. My son just PR’d on his fifth 5k, so that one is on top!

If you could choose: would you pay less for a race and not get a medal or pay more for a race and get a medal?

Depends on the race. A Half, medal. 5k, not so much.

Last TV show that you watched?

Bones, with the wife.

Do you get a real or a fake Christmas tree?!?

Real. That is the gift that keeps on giving… LoL!

Reply

I love real trees! There is just something about the smell that I LOVE! I am sure one day I will give in to the fake tree, but not this year! I am so ready to already put mine up but it seems as if no one around here has them out yet -UGH!

Reply

The hat on Brooke is so cute! I love that she is not taking it off!
With my medals I have a thing to hang them on (I actually made it with my dad!) but now that I have moved I don’t really have a great place to put them :(.
Pay more for a race and get a medal. Medals have seriously gotten me to the finish before!
Last show I watched was Modern Family!
We just bought our first Christmas! It has to be fake because our apartment complex does not allow real trees!

Reply

While I know the medals are really cool, I would love to pay less for a race and be able to run more by not getting medals.

Reply

Love her hat! I’m not attached to medals at all so I’d definitely pay less and forgo medal. Our tree is fake… Mainly because it’s less hassle. Have a good run!

Reply

I bought my niece a hand made Owl hat when she was 12. She’s 13 now and it’s not cool anymore i suppose. So I’m secretly thinking of swiping it since I’m 40 and 40 is the new 12 and I want to wear it! =) Brooke, Dogs rule!
Speaking of dog….I used to put up a real tree every year until I got my puppy and then I worried he’d pee on it, eat it or knock it over. So we did a tabletop fake tree the first year, then graduated to a larger fake tree. This year I might finally go for the real one. He’s mature now. =)
I have 2 race medal holders that say Run Like a Girl! Love them and love my bling! I’d pay extra to ensure a medal but only for 1/2 or full marathons.
I watched Property Brothers on HGTV last night.
Love your questions. =)

Reply

Aww, her hat is so cute! I’ve only ever done one race and it was too small for medals…so having one would be appreciated ;-)

i nanny for a 3 year old boy and 16 month boy. Jack (3 year old) loves when i read your posts out loud for him, he may have a crush on Curly ;) I showed him todays and he always asks about Brooke and what she is doing. Also, he saw the instagram sidebar and saw the ragnar finish line, and said “I think she went to Jump Zone” Jump Zone is a place filled with bounce houses here :) made me laugh!

Reply

I have to say I like medals, but my favorite was a trophy for 1st place. I definitely like the bling to keep me motivated to do a hard race.

I have my metals all over the house, on the fireplace mantel, on my dresser knob, on the frig and hanging on the wall. I like to spread my motivation to keep running all around.

TV last night…Survivor

Fake Tree

My race medals are currently hanging in my closet. I’ve asked my hubby to make me a medal holder for Christmas :) I do kind of like getting medals, so I guess I would pay a little more for the medal.
Last TV show: Big Bang Theory
Tree: Fake after it fell down one year about 5 different times when I was 7 months pregnant. We ended up wiring it to the wall that year.

We have a real “Tannenbaum” for Christmas.

I like getting medals! I recently made my medals into a chandelier for my office – I need to touch it up but then I’m going to do a blog post all about it!

I watched Revolution last night… the show is getting pretty crazy!

Reply

I love her hat! SO cute how obsessed she is with dogs :) And a long run goodbye party sounds like the perfect idea ;)

Reply

I get a fake tree because then I can put it up early and take it down late and only have to deal with the scornful judgement of others, which totally doesn’t bother me. I hang air freshners from it, though, so it does smell piny and the lights really reflect off the silver of the tree. If you’re going fake, go all the way.

Reply

My race medals are hanging in the spare bedroom on a coatrack and even though they aren’t really displayed I do love them and I will always pay a bit more for a race to get a medal.

Last TV Show: Extreme Cheapskates – Those people are just….wow, I can’t look away.

Real or Fake: Both. My family teases me and I don’t care but I put up at least 4 trees throughout my house every year. I also put one in my vacation house and this year, I’ll probably put one in my cabin. I love the holidays!

Reply

-I want the shirt, not the medal.
I don’t like a lot of stuff, so at least a shirt can be worn. I guess if I won, I would want a medal.

-Fake Christmas tree. Pre-lit. Sometimes I get a real wreath just to have the scent in our home.

-TV show: Biggest Loser–just the weigh-in.
HGTV on the treadmill

I would pay more. My daughter likes taking them to show and tell and now she wants to run so she can get medals!

We do a real tree in the living room that only has pretty ornaments on it. Then we have a fake black tree that is our “hobby” tree. The ornaments are all sports/gambling/video gamer themed. That’s where my 3 race medals are hanging now!

Reply

haha i love the hat! i don’t know why adults aren’t allowed to wear stuff like that. i’m going to go see if i can find one in my size.
my medals are all in a dusty box under my bed! shame on me.

I want that vanilla tootsie roll right there on top of the stash. My favorite. Steal it and bring it to me :)

The last show I watched was Burning Love last night with Ross. It has become our nightly ritual. And if you want ridiculous TV, this is it. It is a webisode serious that mocks The Bachelor/The Bachelorette. Oh man. I laugh so hard. I think you would appreciate it.

Hope your run with Janice was fabulous this morning and not so windy. I had a hard time just walking from my car to the gym. I am such a hard core wuss though.

I love that Brooke won’t take off that hat. I just love everything about that girl.

You pick some good BFFs! ;) That soup looks delicious!

Where’d you get your necklace in that first photo? It’s simple and pretty – I love it!

Reply

This is going to sound REALLY weird. I have a vintage lamp that is in the shape of a bullfighter, and my race medals are ALL around his neck. I wish I could post a picture- It started as a joke with my first one, now the medals kind of overpower the lamp, but it doesn’t seem right to put them anywhere else! I should probably get some kind of medal display and just let the most recent one be highlighted on my “man lamp”! hahaha

Reply

I keep my medals on my closet door knob, just like you!
I’d pay less for a race and go without a medal. There are lots of other goodies at a race!
Last show I watched was house hunters.
We put up our artificial tree every year.

Reply

-i have one (the only I’ve gotten for a race, actually… most of my races don’t have them) and it’s hanging near my coats so EVERYONE who comes in the door can see =]

-homeland! ahhhhh it gives me a near heart attack EVERY time.
-REAL!!!!! we live right next door to a tree farm. when i was younger, though, we’d just go into the woods and cut one down from our property. love that tradition.

question for YOU :] how far away from your parents does your sister live? so cool you can see her all the time. have a wonderful day!!!

Reply

She is too cute. I love that you and your sister are close. I am super close to my sister as well and nothing can compete with that bond.
I am loving revenge and scandal right now. Both shows make me so happy, I just wish they were on everyday.
I think the medals are a nice keepsake and I would def. pay more to get my medal since who doesn’t love a big shiny necklace ;)
Hope you had a great run!

Reply

Now that I’ve done so many races, I’d just want to get the discount and not get the medal. All my medals from past races go into a box.
And our family just goes with a fake tree for Christmas.

You guys have your tree up already? This totally gives me permission to put mine up – I feel like after Thanksgiving is too late!

Real Christmas trees all the way! I love the smell of a Christmas tree!

I used to have my medals over the closet door handle just like you! But I just made a cute holder for them about 2 weeks ago. Actually, IKEA made it and I just hung it up on my way. It’s like a curtain rod with little hooks to hang the medals – I believe IKEA displayed it in their kitchen section to hold hand towels and other kitchen stuff on the hooks.

Reply

My medals are on my bookshelf. And I would pay more and get a medal. I like them :)
Fake tree! That’s just what a grew up with and they’re just fine for me! Last TV show I watched was a rerun of Modern Family.

Reply

I LOVE real Christmas trees, but have a fake because I’m gone for 2 wks at the holidays and don’t want to have to worry about my tree dying. I also like to keep my tree up until, oh, mid-March, so being fake helps :D I love race medals and would pay more for a race, especially if it was a cool medal. I recently made a list of half marathons with awesome medals and have a goal to run them all and add to my collection. I have a medal hanger and can see it as soon as I walk in the house…helps keep me motivated to work out after a long day!

Reply

I LOVE medals. I would pay more for a medal and I would HAPPILY give up race shirts for medals, it bugs me so much when they only give a shirt when I would rather have a medal!

Awesome dog hat!

I have hooks on the inside of my wardrobe – I keep then private…just for me…but I like seeing them every day!!!
I’m doing my long run tomorrow morning.

I love medals, so I guess I would pay more for the medal. That being said, all ofy medals right now are in my nightstand drawer!
However, I have a medal hanger on my Xmas wish list. If I don’t get one, I’ll just buy it myself.

We always had real Xmas trees as a kid, but as an adult it’s always fake, weird, huh??

Last show was King of Queens reruns!

Reply

My medals are in a drawer, but I am going to make a custom frame for my first sprint, Oly, Half Iron and Full Ironman along with the bib and swim cap

As a race director for a triathlon, I asked this same question to our athletes, it was about 65 – 35 of those that did NOT want a medal. We now give away a pint glass that will be a series. This way you can display it AND do something useful with it

Last show was “the good wife” and “chicago fire” on DVR last night

We own a fake christmas tree, I was originally against it, but it is amazingly real and easy to use and came pre-lit.

Clearly Brooke gets her love of dogs from you. Her little personality is so fun!
Ive had fhst meatball soup and it it good. Their tortellini one is good too.
No races for me so no medals.
Last tv show was survivor last night. I still watch it every season.
We have a fake tree now but when I was growing up, they were always real trees.

Reply

The last show I watched was The Middle. It’s so weird, but so hilarious.

That dog hat is awesome. I’d wear it all day, too! I can’t wait til I can dress my kid up in crazy outfits. Isn’t that the point of being a mom?

All of my race medals are hanging on a nail in my office. It’s not very fancy, but it works.

Reply

I love that dog hat!

I think, if it was a distance I was running for the first time, then I would definitely want a medal. But, after a few races, I would rather save the money. Having too many medals is bulky and takes up too much space in my box-of-an-apartments, haha!

Reply

Right now my medals are hanging on a decorative mirror that’s on my wall. I’m going to make a hanger for them soon though. Make it look a bit neater!
I try to find a good balance in price with a medal race. I’d rather keep it as cheap as possible and not get a medal, but if there’s a race that’s giving them out and it happens to be really awesome and maybe just a little bit more money, I’ll opt for that one. :)

Reply

My medals are in the same spot as yours, looped over a doorknob (to a door we never open).

I can’t choose. I like both situations. I figure I get the best of both worlds by running 5Ks and 10Ks and trail races (where you don’t usually get a medal), and a few longer races (halfs, and soon to be my first full!) where you do get medals.

We DVR’d Survivor last night. I just can’t outgrow that show…

We have a fake Christmas tree (bought the year we had our first child, to eliminate pine needle eating), but usually buy some real swags or a wreath or a tabletop tree for the scent.

Reply

my race medals are hanging on my mirror above my dresser! I only have a few (2 10 milers, 2 halves and 1 marathon) so I haven’t had to come up with anything else yet!

Brook’s hat looks so warm I wouldn’t take it off either:) She looks so adorable in her couture :) I must say that I love the Our Best Bites recipes. While I do not have their cook book I do go to their website for recipes. I stumbled upon it one day looking around for recipes. Honestly there isnt one recipe that I have tried that hasn’t been easy to make or been give good reviews. Their desserts are the best:)

I run for medals. But in PEI, there are a lot of races that are only 10 dollars (no medal) and are typically for a good cause, so could run a race every weekend if I wanted to!

I got a bulletin board that I use for my medals. I painted “I just felt like running – F. Gump” on it, and pin my medals to that.

As for the Christmas tree, we go to a tree farm and cut one every year. It’s tradition for us, and I love it!

I watched that Teen Mom last night too :) And I have all my race medals in a plastic bag, in a drawer of my filing cabinet…but someday I’d like to get a Race Hooks hanger and put them up! My race medals from the past year, since we moved to Seattle are hanging in my closet. New York is front and center, so I can see it every morning. All the old ones are in a box from the move.

My race medals are all in my sock drawer. I do my big races after each of my babes are born, so I’m keeping them safe until I can give them each their medal mommy earned for them.

I race for the bling! Which is weird, because I earn it and then stick it in a sock drawer. But I totally make my race decisions based on how cute the medal is. The Oz Half Marathon still wins.

BONES. I’m only on season 4, and where has it been all my life?

Fake. That way I can put it up November 1st and it lasts all the way to the new year.

My husband & I get a fake tree because we travel at Christmas, but my parents still get a real one — so I get to enjoy the real thing without being responsible for the clean up :)

Love Brooke’s new hat. It’s perfect for her.

It was so nice of your sister to buy a car for you and Brooke. :)

I used to have my medals on a plain ole hanger in my closet, but then Santa brought me a really cool marathon medal hook for Christmas last year. My hubby insisted that I hang it up in our rec room for all the world to see (vs. on my closet wall where I was planning on putting them). He was a bit surprised at how heavy they all were and had to reinforce the hooks holding it. My 18-year-old dubbed it my “I’m better than you” wall. Which is her way of saying she’s proud of me. Or that she hates me. It’s always so hard to tell with teens.

I do like getting medals for races. It’s a fun reminder of all the races I’ve run.

I started watching Almost Human with my husband who is a huge sci-fi fan. So far, it’s pretty good.

I would definately pay a little more to get the medal; I like the physical reminder of what I’ve accomplished!
Also, REAL tree is the only way to go!!

Last TV show = Parks & Rec! I love it. I just finished the first season of The Carrie Diaries on Netflix; such a feel-good show. I’m on the hunt for “just me” show since Parks and Rec is a show for my man and I to watch. =)

Combining first and last questions- real tree we cut down in the desert so its a bizarre pinion pine or juniper but the smell is still awesome. And this year we are decorating the tree with our medals and ribbons from the year. Between kids swim team, sports, cross country and everyone’s races we are hoping we have enough. I have a feeling we may need to use 2012’s medals as well since we skimped on races because we were trying to buy a new house. We will see the week after thanksgiving.

I display my medals on my boyfriend’s triathlon medal rack I bought him. Casualty of moving in together. :)

– My race medals are in a drawer in my closet. Our apartment is too small to have them out somewhere. When we buy a house I plan on having a workout/awards room (I’m only half kidding)
– I would totally pay more for a race to get a medal (or a t-shirt!)
– Last T.V. show I watched was How I Met Your Mother.
– Real trees all the way! And the taller the better!! :)

We have a fake christmas tree. Btw Brooke looks adorable with her dog hat!

I actually keep them hanging from my bed post, is that embarrassing?

Love our fake Costco tree and who knows where half of my medals are these days. The boys take them and hide them. LOL. Hope your long run goes well!!!

I hang mine off one of the curtain rods in my bedroom. I love them and would be sad without them, I live in Upstate NY and the only races that really give out medals are marathons and half marathons so each one is special.

Plus I figure if someone tries to come into my bedroom they double as a weapon.

I have a medal/bib display I bought off Etsy where I keep my medals. It’s about full now, so I will be needing to get another one soon. We have it up in a little hallway off of our kitchen. :)

I really love the sense of accomplishment I get every time I earn a medal. I guess that’s why I prefer to do longer races that offer them.

Just got caught up on Walking Dead. This season has been so slow and boring so I was 2 weeks behind. Before that, I was on a serious Netflix binge of New Girl episodes.

We do a fake tree. I am scared my cats will try to eat the needles and real trees are too messy and too much work, lol. I just burn an evergreen scented candle in the same room and call it good. ;)

My medals and race awards are in a heaping pile on a book shelf. Except for 2; my Boston medal is on my dresser. I need a safe, but fun place to display it. I also have a trophy & medal on my dresser from the trail marathon I won. I need to move it to the cluttered book shelf with the rest of the hardware. :-)

That is hilarious!! A hat won’t last 2 minutes on Brody’s head…he hates them, but they are so cute so I always try (plus it’s COLD outside!). I love that your sister already has her tree up, this is my favorite time of the year. My tradition is to put a real tree up the week after Thanksgiving.

I would much rather pay less for a race and not get a medal – the only medal I have and know exactly where it is is from the one marathon I’ve run.

My goodness you have such a gorgeous family Janae!
Brooke just knows she looks way too good in that hat to take it off :)

Christmas tree–mine goes up in one week! Once I get my patio furniture off the patio so I can lock up the door for the winter.

I’m addicted to Revenge and How I Met Your Mother– so so good!!

She looks SO SO cute in that hat!

Hope the long run was amazing :)

Brooke in a doggie hat just made my day <3

I have a few fake little trees for different rooms, but the living room must always have a real one! :) Can’t wait to get ours and decorate!! Brooke is so cute in her dog hat!! I see why she doesn’t want to take it off ;)

I love your medal “display” :) My 5 most recent medals are in a paper bag on the dining room table. All my other medals are secretively “displayed” in a box in the garage. So unceremonious. Even my nat’l championships ones and PanAm are stuffed in there.

We had a 10-12-foot real tree the last 2 years but a 4-foot fake, doodoo Charlie Brown-y tree for the 4 years prior. I LOVE Christmas!!!!

I also love that doggy hat! So cute how she’s so attached to it :)

Do you guys have your tree up already??? I love real trees but worry about the fire hazard and numerous needles…and therefore I have a fake one. Plus I usually put it up early. I hang smelly things on it so it smells like a real one though.

Last show I watched? The Biggest Loser!

I would rather pay more and get a medal….I know I’ll never win but love getting something for my hard work.

I actually really like getting metals – I didn’t get one for a half a few months ago and was bummed.

I’ve been binging on Scandal lately. I can’t wait to get home and watch more!

Right now my medals are hanging on my necklace hanger haha

Reply

I have enough medals to last me a lifetime! I just organized them last week. It’s crazy. They’re currently sitting in a box. I would much rather get actual prizes than medals!

I think it depends on the location of the race and the distance. I do like getting them, and feel much better about a race when a medal is involved. However, some races are just so expensive that I might forego the medal so I could run more. My medals are in a box right now, ha, but after I get one, it stays out for a while!

Brookers is on my so big and love her new hat/dog…..so tell me are you getting her a dog for Christmas???

Curly’s smile is infectious – cutie pie

REAL TREE ONLY in my house!

We love Survivor – but for some reason my darn DVR didn’t get it last night….oh what is a girl to do???

Reply

I would rather get a medal! My half marathon was cheap and I was really disappointed when I didn’t get one. I was dying and I don’t even get any bling!

We have a fake tree. I imagined spiders coming into our house from the forest and it creeped me out too much.

She’s growing so fast!!! Sure is cute in that hat too :) My littlest has an elk hat that is pretty cute.
Yay for the new rig!! It will be nice to be able to go places together easily.
God bless!

Yes and yes:)

I turn my medals into Christmas ornaments. I love putting them on the tree every year and remembering each race. Also, the tree is real:)

Reply

I hang my medals on a hook in my closet. No one else can see them, but I can still admire them.

Real trees all the way! Love they way they make my house smell like Christmas all the time.

Reply

I hang my medals on one of the knobs on my bureau drawer.. But I think I’m going to ask for a medal hanger for Christmas. I’d totally pay more for a race to get the medal. However it is pretty motivating when only top 3 get a medal :)

I get a real tree and it won’t be going up any sooner than 2 weeks before Christmas.

Reply

I LOVE my race medals, I have them hangning on the wall. I would pay more for a race to get a medal (I’m a sucker what can I say! :P).
We have a real Christmas tree rule in our house (that I came up with an implement every year). It’s so much fun to bundle up, pick out a tree and bring it home!
We get ours over Thanksgiving weekend :)

Right now my race medals are hanging off of my clothes rack in my spare bedroom. In my old apartment I had them hanging off my race bulletin board along with bibs and pictures and what ever else rando stuff I had.

I would pay more. I know some peeps aren’t into the whole medal thing, but this gal is. And def bring on the tshirts!

Is Good Morning America a TV show? That’s really all I watch. I’m too cool, I know.

My family always does real trees. I’m thinking of getting myself a faux little one though and decorating it in my place now that I’ve moved out of my hometown. We shall see!

The majority of my medals are down in my office. The only one I really have on display is my Inaugrual Rock N Roll Portland 1/2 medal. I did it 7 weeks after donating a kidney to my cousin and it’s hanging with the photo of us in the hospital after the donation/transplant took place.

I’ve got to have a real tree, we go up into the woods every year and cut our own.

Last show I watched was Bones (it’s about the only show I watch and I’m hopelessly addicted)

My few race medals that I have are currently in a cabinet we have in our living room. It’s half regular door, half glass door, so naturally they’re showcased in the glass portion. LOL I think I’d probably like to pay less and no medal but would I still get a tshirt? ;)

Last TV show I watched was American Horror Story: Coven. And we used to always get real trees, but after we bought a sectional a couple of years ago we don’t have the room anymore, so we have a thinner fake tree we set up mostly in the kitchen, near the entrance to the living room. Doesn’t seem right, but we light a tree-like candle and it makes it a little better.

I am impressed, my daughter won’t even keep a barrette or headband in her hair for more than like 5 minutes. :)

One of my goals is to get myself a fancy schmancy place to hang my med,as…right now they are sitting in my doorknob, too!!!!! There are now too many and you cannot really touch the knob..I have to work on this problem soon!!!!

We have a fake tree..wahhhh! Pics wish my husband liked the real ones!

I would love to go to a running party!

Reply

Pay more and get the medal!! I would happily wear my medals all the time if my husband would let me!

Reply

I run for medals. They make me work hard in short distances races to win because I want the bling, and they make me work hard in long distance races just to cross the finish so I can receive the bling. I will gladly pay higher prices for my race medals.
They are currently displayed on a floor lamp that has places I can hang them, but I’m getting a medal rack for Christmas :).
