How I get up early to run and a bunch of random pictures.

Getting up early in the morning to run still isn’t super easy for me.

You’d think it would be simple after 10 years of doing it but I still question my life decisions every morning that my alarm clock goes off in the 5 o’clock hour.  Luckily once I get to about 2.2 miles I finally wake up and remember that getting up early to run is my favorite because it not only gives me the endorphins I crave first thing in the morning but it also allows me to not miss a minute of Brooke’s awake time.

Here is how I get up early to run (you may have heard these a trillion times but that is because they work:) ((I have gotten a few emails about this recently so that is why I am talking about it…feel free to just skip to the pictures if you have already mastered this:)

1.  I set my alarm clock to remind me of my goals.  I see that little line when my alarm clock goes off and that reminds me why I am doing what I am doing.

Screen Shot 2013 09 10 at 9 36 18 AM

2.  I put my phone (my alarm clock) on the other side of the room.  This not only helps me in the morning to have to get up to turn it off but it also helps me to fall asleep earlier, otherwise I would be stalking Instagram until the wee hours of the night making it harder to get up in the morning.

3.  Con a friend into going early with you.  When I know I have people to meet early in the morning it makes it a trillion times easier to get up!

4.  Have every single item ready.  Knowing that my shoes are by the door (with my socks in them) and that my clothes are already laying out waiting for me to put them on makes the whole experience feel so much better.  If I am driving to meet someone for a run then I put my garmin, sunglasses and water bottle in the car the night before.

5.  When I don’t want to get up I always remind myself that my whole day goes a million times better when I start it off with a run.  Even if it is a bad run, it still makes my day go better and I am a much nicer person with endorphins in my blood stream.

6.  Get through the rough patch.  I don’t think you will ever just leap out of bed when it is still dark outside and be excited to get out of your warm bed but after a while it does just become part of your day and a habit.  Those first three weeks are the hardest.

Do what is best for you.  If you dread running early then don’t do it and find a time that works for you and your schedule:)

My ideal dinner that I had the other night:  BBQ chicken, roasted potatoes, salad (with olive garden dressing) and fruit.  Heavenly.

Every meal I eat at home involves Maggie putting her head in my lap begging for food.  I have a cold…hence the sweatshirt and soup in 80 degree weather.

Cheez-its in your soup is actually really good.

Having a friend waiting early in the morning is seriously the only thing that gets me out of bed for a morning run. Accountability is key in my book.

When I get up early to run, I just have to do it. I agree with you though – having everything ready and waiting to go really does help. I don’t know how to change the alarm message on my iPhone! Is that in settings somewhere??

Reply

I saw your comment when I went to write mine. It’s the clock then edit alarm then you go to the bottom row where it says label to edit the name :) I realized that 2 months ago!

Reply

HOW have I never seen that before?? Thank you!

Reply

I put a motivational quote on my alarm too! I don’t know how I am even awake enough to read but it works. Also I pop out of bed as soon as it goes off. If I snooze once, I snooze 189734 times.

Brooke looks so sophisticated with her bangs pulled to the side like that, and her little updo! Baby model, I tell ya.

So glad your back in ut, we need to get some fro yo! I’m the worst at getting up early but I have an awesome running buddy that pushes me. Random: I’m
Wearing pumpkin lotion and I love it! I’m ready for fall:)

Reply

Is it wrong that the main takeaway was looking at your blue dotted pants in the background and being like OMG CUTE?!?!?!

Yes, probably, but needed to tell you anyways =) xo

For the first time since I got out on bed rest, I wrote about how I’m ready to get back into running! I’m going to start this Thursday! :) So your tips are just in time for me, thanks!

I really should run in the morning. ..my problem is that my body just doesn’t want to get running. I feel my early morning runs are always just….blah.
The Runner’s World hat trick is going to be a fun time. I am so excited! Looking forward to meeting Kristin, and hopefully I will run into you as well :)

I set about 5 alarms in the morning… All with reminders about why it’s a good idea! I’m so not a morning person though so I don’t run in the morning very often. It always feels great when I do though!

Random – I melted a container lid onto my flat top stove this morning… In case you were thinking of doing that… Not fun!!!!

Reply

I love the tag line in your alarm. Pure motivation! Also pass along congrats to your Dad…62 pounds is great.

Getting up early can be so hard! But I find that if I don’t, my runs are a lot less likely to be as long and intense! That, and right now early morning runs are my cure for morning sickness!

My random tidbit today: I tried the Starburst candy corn I was telling you about, and although good, they are not as good as the real thing! And definitely not as good as the minis! Miss you!

Like you, I’m never going to LOVE getting up at 5 am. But this summer in Utah forced me to do it before the temperature reached 105 degrees until 10pm. I have to put my stuff right outside the bedroom door, so I can just put my clothes on and get out the door- I’m OUT in 5-10 minutes. I can’t snooze either- days I don’t run and just have to get to work take me forever thanks to the snooze button!

Reply

I get up at 5:15 to exercise/run and no it never gets easier. I do all the tricks and what not. But, like you said, my say is so much better if I get it done and out of the way. Speaking of…I did NOT get up this morning because I ALSO have a cold! What gives?? So I chose to skip today’s work out (apparently I am not as hard core as you – wait. I already knew that) and plan on being back at it tomorrow! I hope you get feeling better soon!

Brookers hair all pulled back just shows off her adorable face – she lit’rally could not be any cuter.

And I am loving your pants! They look like the similar to the ones I showed you. Where are the from?

And your dad is amazing! That really is so awesome.

Reply

I only allow myself Reeces Puff cereal (dry/ no milk) before an early morning run. Then when the alarm goes off, I only have to focus on getting to my special cereal. Then by time I have finished my cereal I am motivated enough to move to the next step of getting out the door.

It is so funny you posted this. I just started a job at a nuclear power construction site and we work 4 ten hour days. The plant is an hour away, so I leave at 6 and get home at 6. I just want to have dinner and spend time with my dogs and husband when we get home, so I have been waking up at 4 to hit the treadmill. It kind of stinks, but I really hope it becomes a habit! Also, we live in the south so I have a hard time doing speed work when it’s in the 90s. Mile repeats on the treadmill aren’t as bad as I though.

Reply

Do you not have breakfast before you go? Or do you leave that till afterwards?
I’ve just started jogging, I know your not supposed to go running with a full stomach, but how do you get energy for all those miles?! :)

Reply

I set two alarms (OK, I often hit snooze on both but I’ll eventually get up!), and then tell myself to just GO because, like you said, I know I’ll feel better afterwards. I tell myself that if I don’t feel great after 10 minutes, I can always turn back around (which I think I’ve only done once or twice in my life – it’s amazing how different you feel when you’re out there!). If all else fails, I make deals with myself (“you can have a grande coffee instead of a tall” or something silly like that!).

Reply

Congrats to your dad — he looks great!

Getting up early to run is still hard for me — if I don’t get up as soon as my alarm goes off, I’ll probably end up talking myself out of it. If I just stand up and start getting ready without really thinking about what I’m doing, then I’m fine!

Reply

I put my phone across the room, close to the bathroom and have my clothes are set up and ready. It still takes me a while to wake up and get moving out the door. It being dark and cold out there isn’t motivating either .

Reply

I get up at 5am to run, and I just make myself do it. It’s the time that works best for me and for my family, as in, I don’t miss out on any family stuff because everyone is asleep, and my after work desire to veg & hang out with my kids doesn’t get in the way of exercising. It is harder to get up in the middle of winter when its below freezing and snow is piled beside the sidewalk. But then I remember how much better I feel when I run, and how impressed with myself I always am after my run, and I just do it.

Although, I’m a morning person, I never, ever, ever thought I’d get up before 6am to run, but I’m glad when I do.

I don’t eat anything before heading out the door (just a really big glass of water), and I try not to run more than an hour (I have to leave for work by about 7am). Do you eat anything?

Reply

I also run around 5am too. I was wondering what you do about the darkness? Do you wear special gear? Stick to neighborhoods? Etc.. It used to be partially light earlier in the summer but now it’s pitch black for the whole run.

Reply

Congrats to your dad! He looks great! And he probably feels great too!

Reply

I hope your cold flees your body by the morning! :) Also, congrats to your dad! That’s so incredible. I hope the number of pounds he loses keeps going up!!!

Reply

Great tips! Those are definitely things I use for myself when I know I need to get up early to workout. It’s important for me to get my workout done first thing so I have the rest of my day free in case anything comes up later on.
And major congrats to your Dad! He’s doing awesome!

Reply

I know if I get up and do it I don’t have to push the stroller and run while my husband works! 100 miles in 24 hrs is awesome! Congrats to your dad and to curly ;-)

Reply

Thanks for sharing how you get up early. I have such a hard time. It’s hot in Fresno so I need to run early and I am NOT a morning person. It also takes me a couple miles to wake up.

Random: I love your fashion style…you must share some of your favorites with us. I’ve noticed your cute brown sandals…I want some:-) And I know you love J Crew..me too.

Reply

I am theeee worsttttt when it comes to getting my booty up and out of bed to work out early! So thank you for these tips!!!! I also sometimes sleep in my exercise clothes, which helps too, as it makes one less thing I have to do in the morning haha. That bbq chicken looks incredible, your niece and her nutella are adorable, and way to go Janae’s dad!!! He looks great!

I’ve had a cold too! Even though it is now the start of Spring in Australia! My alarm goes off at 4.25 am 6 days a week. I get up at 4.30. I too question it every single day but I get so much more done this way and even when I do get up later my eyes are still half closed for twenty minutes anyway! It is worth it! I don’t have a baby though so hopefully when I do I can still get up as early!

Reply

I usually get up at 5 to go run. If I don’t really feel like it I just say, “Go for a run?” to my dog and she gets all crazy and won’t leave me alone until we leave so I can’t flake.
Another random thing is I found out I passed a section of the CPA exam!! I’m SO excited. Only one section left! (I’m sure you don’t care I just can’t contain my excitement!) :)

Reply

Ugh!!!!! I hate my alarm clock right now!!! It is not easier for me yet!!! I MUST stop going to bed at 11:30 and trying to get up at 5:30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

Omg Brooke is too cute!

Reply

KUDOS to dad! He looks awesome! Go him!!

Reply

I don’t wake up as early anymore now since I lost my job, but when I did I would do many of the same things you do. Under my alarm clock it says “How bad do you want it!?” and I want to BQ bad!!! I also sleep in my sports bra and shorts a lot of the time that way the only thing I have to do when I get up is put on my shirt and shoes. Anything to make me think less in the morning :)

Reply

I’m with you on the inspiration to get up early- I have to remind myself that my day is infinitely better when it starts out with some exercise! I’m more patient with my littles and husband and I strangely have more energy! Usually that’s enough…but I’m liking the idea of putting the phone across the room, especially for those lazy mornings!

Big “Way to Go!” to your dad! He looks awesome and I’m sure you and your sister are serious motivations to him! Is he following a diet plan or something specific? My dad is tackling that same challenge and I can’t wait for him to have successes like your dad’s! Way to go!

Reply

I’m the same way- hate getting up when it’s still dark out, but my day goes so much better better when I get my workout in! Just curious- who watches Brooke when you’re out running? (not to be nosey!)

Reply

Not nosey at all! Brooke wakes up at 7:30 so when I leave I put the video monitor in my mom’s room just in case she wakes up earlier! I get home before she wakes up:)

Reply

Perfecto! I didn’t realize you lived with them- I’m glad you have their support at this time. :)

Reply

I’m sick right now, too. :( I never get colds in the summer, but made a 12-hr. each way road trip this weekend to watch my sister complete her first IRONMAN (!!!!!!!!!!), and I think all the traveling/late nights/unhealthy eating caught up to me. Oh well, TOTALLY worth it to see her take on and complete such an amazing challenge!

Reply

I think I could do this if I actually had someone I could con into getting up at the crack of dawn to run with me. I need more friends.

Your dad is ROCKING it! Way to go.

Reply

I have gotten up early since I was in high school to run so I am programmed to be a morning person! The more you do it, the easier it gets!
Elmo just brought me his monkey, so off to go play!

Reply

Hope you feel better!

Random thing: My niece and nephew call my brother and sister-in-law Momio & Dadio, lol.

Reply

So do you run in the pitch black? The sun isn’t coming up until almost 7 now. Be careful!

Reply

I wish I was better at getting up early to run I lose a lot of motivation after I get home from school/work. I’m going to start trying harder, bc it does feel great to get it done!

Reply

I definitely like getting things done early, so that’s motivating. I just try to think about how great it will feel once I’m up and at it.

Reply

Grapes! Haven’t seen those on here in awhile! I still think of you when I see people eating cottage cheese and grapes (is that creepy)?

Reply

Way to go Hungry Runner Dad! I’m so proud of him.

Reply

I tried the inspirational messages with my alarm, but my eyes are too blurry when I wake up so I couldn’t read it anyway :) Talk about a fail!

Reply

Hi Janae,
It’s tough, but I manage to get up early because I know it is the one sure time I have all to myself and my goals.
You really inspire me! :)

Reply

Wow your dad looks awesome, congrats to him!

I have the hardest time getting up before dawn to workout. I really, really want to do it though, even just twice a week. I’m going to try some of your tricks (like putting the phone across the room), its just too easy to hit snooze when it’s within arm reach!

Reply

The only way I get up early is to a crying baby. Maybe I’ll try a few of these tips!

Reply

I’ve been getting up early to run for about 17 years now. I feel funny sleeping past 6:00! I love the quiet of the early morning, so it’s really not hard most days. I even wake up before my alarm about 50% of the time. Don’t look for me past 10:00 p.m.!

Congrats to your dad!

Reply

All of you that can workout in the morning props bc I have tried and I just can’t. I go whenever my daughter wakes up or in the evening if I have things going on in the morning.

Reply

So sorry if you’ve answered this before but do you eat before your runs? Some of them are quite long to do them fasting. That’s my main problem with super early runs, I just cannot face breakfast before going.

Reply

I run at 6am, just roll out of bed and go. I don’t eat before I go, but if I’m doing more than five miles I bring shot blocks and eat every 2-4 miles depending on the length of my run. I’m not a breakfast eater at all, and early morning running doesn’t change that for me.

Just for some perspective!

Reply

I never thought of bringing energy gels or something like that. It could be an idea. Thanks! :)

Reply

I pretty much do exactly what you do to get up early and it does get easy. There are always hard days but I always tell myself to run for 10 minutes and if I want to stop, I can. I’ve never stopped :)

I too, have a cold. Boo! My doc told me to take some time off of running just in case it’s a virus and it could spread throughout
my body, I laughed and said no way Jose. I took one day and we’re back on track tomorrow!

Reply

I get up at 6am to run before work. I know myself enough to know I won’t go afterwards because it cuts into my precious and limited relaxation time. Plus it’s the coolest time of day to and I hate working out in the heat. And no, it never gets easier. It’s dark out when I hit the road for my run at 6:15 and I will never get used to that, but when I get a great workout in that doesn’t interfere with any other part of my day, I’m happy.

Reply

I’m up at 4:40 AM daily to run!

Reply

I really want to be an early morning runner but I’m not. I’m just not comfortable running in the dark (is that weird for a grown woman?!). I’m a teacher and that hour and a half before work is my calm time for coffee and blogging! I look forward to that time everyday because once I get goin’ I don’t stop until bedtime!
I’m running the RW 5K!

I’m the same way on weekdays – my early mornings are spent caffeinating and getting ready for my day! But I do my long run early on Saturday morning, so to make sure I get up, I set 2 alarms that have just a few minutes difference so it really doesn’t help to hit snooze… and I sleep in my running clothes & compression sleeves.

Reply

I wear my running gear to bed to help me get up early and off to a run.

Random thing to share: I brush my teeth in the shower.

Reply

Love the pic of Brooke in the sink! And those grapes from your parents yard look delicious!

I get up early, but it’s usually to get in an hour or so of work before my girls get up. I run right after I drop them off at daycare before working for the rest of the day. If I didn’t get up, I wouldn’t be able to cram everything into the day!

Reply

I’m sorry if I missed an announcement in an earlier post, but will you be at the Runner’s World races in Oct? I ran the Hat Trick (5k + 10k + Half) last year and loved it, so I’m heading back again this year! Would love to see you at a race one of these days. :)

Reply

I will be there! Can’t wait to meet you!

Reply

Yay!! So excited to meet you!

Reply

Thanks for this Janae and your email! I was successful today on my run and am going to keep at it and just not even give myself the option of running after work. It really is natural caffeine!

Reply

Also, 1 – your dad looks awesome. Good for him!! And 2 – my treadmill is parked in my living room and I still have a hard time waking up at 6 to run before work. Focusing on the post-run endorphins is all that gets me going!!

Reply

I just remind myself how much of a better day I will have and that when I get home from work I can just relax :)

Reply

Way to go Dadio!!!! Wow, keep up the good work!!

Reply

Oh my gosh that sink picture is sooo cute. And 100 miles on a treadmill?! Wow!!

Reply

I think about my end goals, and like you, how much better I feel after! I dread it all day if I don’t get it done in the morning! Brooke looks ADORABLE! in that sink picture? She is too precious. Feel better!

Reply

I get up pretty early between 5:30-6:20 when I’m working to run…my pooch is definitely my running motivation- as soon as I as much as roll over he’s up running and whining at me to get going!! I also make sure I have my mug filled with the milk to heat up and add the hot coco (even during summer) is waiting for me in the fridge immediately following my run to have with a quick banana on the way to work- food as motivation- who said that’s a bad thing… ;)

Reply

I would get up early to run, but I currently can’t run so that is out. I love the idea of putting your goal in the subject line of the alarm!
Putting Brooke in the sink was genius! I will have to do that when I babysit really little kids :)

Reply

It helps me x100000 to have all my clothes ready to workout. i don’t know why but when i try to pick out workout clothes when i wake up, it takes like 20 mins? haha i don’t even know what i do to make it take that long. i blame the fact that my brain is still asleep.

Reply

This is so timely for me and I’m glad I googled running blogs and found you! I am a newbie and have been trying to figure out a schedule that works for me and my family. I was really pushing myself through 6 pm very hot here in the south workouts and runs but we were eating dinner way too late and some days I was just too tired. Yesterday was my first renewed attempt at 5 am workout/run. I’m thrilled and hope I stay that way :)

Reply

I don’t know this 5 am thing of which you speak….. needless to say I’m not an early morning anything. I want sleep. I can’t run until after my kid goes to school anyway, so I might as well stay asleep as long as possible. Your dad’s doing awesome!!!! I think I found some (a lot) of those pounds he’s lost though…….. :(

As always, Brooke is adorable! Hope you get rid of the cold ASAP. I’m struggling with allergies at the moment.

Reply

I don’t do anything that special to get up early to run, except go to bed earlier and remind myself how much I like running and how bad it sucks to run in the heat and humidity!

Reply

I force myself to get up early and run because otherwise it’s too hot when the sun comes up and I won’t do it. It’s definitely gotten easier for me but there are still days when I just wanna sleep forever. Random: I received a package today from a friend with GELATIN- FREE marshmallows and I’ve eaten like a million. They are so delish and I really missed having marshmallows in my life.

Reply

A morning run feels so great! Maybe I should go back to them

Reply

I used to think it was difficult to get up at 5 am to run. But then this week I started a new job and I have to get up at 5 am to get ready for work (and exercise in the evenings). THAT is infinitely hard for me. I think it’s because there are so many benefits to running and like all of you I knew how much better I would feel when I was done. Sitting in LA traffic for over an hour doesn’t quite have the same payoff…

Reply

Your dad is looking awesome! Goes to show hard work pays off!

Reply

Sometimes I have to think through my day and realize if I don’t get up and go it’s not going to happen at all. And THAT would be tragic.
Random: it’s 9:25 and I’m about to make dinner. I don’t have dinner this late ever. I’m starving. That’s all :)

Reply

Your dad looks soooo good!! That’s so awesome!

Reply

Great tips! I have all my clothes ready to and no snooze button…but I think I should start leaving my phone on the otherwise of the room!

Reply

You are incredible my friend. Thank you so much.
Sub 3 —- yaaa you got that.
Awesomeness.

Reply

Yay! Your dad is so awesome! What an inspiration!

My alarm goes off in the 4:30 hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But it’s easy to get out of bed knowing that by 7:30 that night I won’t have to stop by the gym or head out for a run.

Reply

I can count my early morning runs on both hands and some toes. I work a really odd schedule and like to run later. If its hot I go up into the mountains. (Love utah!).

Reply

Your dad is looking positively svelte. I imagine he is feeling pretty amazing, too :)

I used to set three alarms all around my room to ensure getting up for morning practice. It was ALWAYS hard. ALWAYS. I had to replace one of my clocks because the alarm would only sound for 60 seconds before shutting itself off. I could totally outwait it! LOL I must admit, thought, working out in the morning does feel better than later in the day.

Random fact of the day: I had bacon for lunch. Just bacon.

Here is how I get my little to sit still for hair from age 1-2.5 years. Have you watched Peppa Pig? It’s huge in England, but I think it has crossed the pond. Anyway- I’d queue up an episode of Peppa (only 5 minutes long, so work fast!) and give her a Mini Dum-Dum lollipop. Just enough candy and enough show to get the hair done. Plus, after a few times of doing that, my girls actually look forward to hair time. Then you phase-out the candy and just use the show. I swear my girls look for a brush when they hear the Peppa Pig theme song!! Good luck– she’s adorable and YOU are a WONDERFUL mom!

Can Brooke get any cuter??

Reply

I love that picture of Brooke in the sink!! So sinkin’ cute!! (Sorry puniness runs in my family)

My random item is that I’m proud of myself this week! I’ve been getting up on time to put up a post and still bike down to the bus (about a 30 minute ride) for work! Leaving the house at 5am is tough but I’m loving the stillness in the morning plus I get another hour of exercise in!!

Reply

I tell myself it will be done faster! It would be nice to have a friend to run with but I usually end up going alone :(

Reply

I tried waking up a few times to go to the gym at 5. I could never get in the habit; I always felt like I was going to fall asleep on the treadmill!

I will say that having plans to run with a friend is the best way to ensure you’ll get your run in. I’d hate to bail on my running buddy! Sometimes I think she’s the only reason I am still running this far into my pregnancy lol.

Reply

Running with friends is absolutely the best way to make yourself get up super early for a run! Just knowing that they are doing the same for you, makes you get out there to meet them.

I love that you put Brooke in the sink to do her hair. So cute!

Reply

Those are all such good tips! I’ve been going to the 5:45 am circuit class at a new gym and I’m getting addicted to the early morning endorphins!

Reply

I refuse to run early! I know people do it and it’s a thing that happens but I will forever and always be an after work runner until life forces me to be a morning runner at which point I will probably cease being a runner. I like walking for 20 minutes after my run and taking a leisurely shower. I’m single and without children so this is my life.

Reply

I converted to a morning runner about three years ago. I still have rough days! I figured out that the roughest part is just getting your feet on the ground. Once you do that, you’re in the clear!

Reply

I’ve been trying to get to bed earlier. Sounds like a “duh” thing but my bedtime kept getting later and later so now I’m working on getting to sleep earlier which makes me much less tired at 5:30am!

Reply

Your dad is doing awesome!!!!!

Reply

I can’t do it. I just can’t. I can barely wake up at 7am for work, let alone 5am to run. Nopers. Thankfully it’s just me, so running at 5:30pm when I get home from work is no big deal – I just eat dinner at 8pm.

I’m so impressed with your dad! So awesome :)

Reply

I just started the early morning running this past weekend and as hard as it was getting out of bed while it was still dark outside – watching the sun rise over the mountains is what makes it worth it for me! It makes it much easier to forget what I’m actually doing haha.

Reply

EMZ just amazes me.

I need to get back to getting up early to run. I miss it, and I was getting up at 4:30. My days were just exponentially better then. The trick for me was to never, ever, EVER hit the snooze button. It was all over once the snooze gets pressed and I’d be back asleep for an hour lol You do get used to it, though!

Reply

Thats just like my alarm clock on my phone in the morning!!! On mornings I teach, I have at least 4 alarms set! Hope you and Brook have a great day!

Reply

Brooke is just way too cute!!! I love her in the sink!

I need all kinds of mental motivation to crawl myself out of bed. I feel like even though I’m only 27, my body is catching up to me and my bones always seem so achy in the morning, which makes the morning run sound even less fun. BUT — once I Get up and moving, my body remembers that it is still young and can bounce back. And I normally remember that, until the next morning. . . haha

Is Maggie a Dachshund? Growing up, I had a Dachshund named maggie!

The only way I get up early enough to get a decent run in is to meet a friend. If I have a run planned without a friend, sometimes I’ll reset the alarm and decide on a shorter run, but I usually run.

Totally agree Janae: having everything ready when you wake up makes a HUGE difference.

I love leaving myself little notes of encouragement on my morning alarm! It’s such a nice way to wake up — even if it is 4:30 in the morning!

PS: Your dad is looking GREAT! What a big achievement!!

Crazy! my alarm is also set for 5:19…not sure why I like those odd numbers. Even though I also get up super early (and have for years) it’s still difficult.

I live in Georgia and have the choice between horrendous humidity in the early AM or awful heat in the blazing sun later in the day. I choose dark and humid and I remind myself of this while lying in bed contemplating putting my run off.
I also put all my clothes out the night prior.
I think I read it on Another Mother Runner (?) but the mantra “just get up and go” gets my rear out of bed many days and once I’m up and moving and Body Gliding, I’m good to go.
As much as I love the run, I love getting it done- if I put it off until later I find myself dreading it and sometimes skipping it. Along with this, reminding myself how great I’ll feel when it’s done.

First of all I want to say I love your blog! I just recently had a friend tell me I should read it… and she was right!
This morning I had planning on waking at 5am because it was the perfect conditions for me to get in an early morning run… which is rare. This is due to the fact I do not have my son this morning and today I have a training at work which means I dont have to be in as early as normal. Perfect right?!
Well shame on me because I could not pull myself out of bed. :( When I finally got out of bed I sat down at my computer and read your blog…. funny how those things happen, right?
Thanks for the tips, hopefully next time I have this golden opportunity I will not pass it up!

Getting up early is so hard for me, especially now that it’s starting to get darker in the mornings. I recently switched to putting my phone on the opposite side of the room and it definitely works…most days =).

Sometimes I even sleep in my running clothes so I don’t even have to change in the morning.
