One of life’s greatest joys and a video of Brooke walking.

(this post is about our Sunday, I meant to post this morning’s post this afternoon and this one this morning but my brain wasn’t working)

It is a really good feeling to wake up and walk upstairs (very quickly because you are really hungry) and when you go into the kitchen your mom is making delicious blueberry pancakes.  She was making them for Brooke but luckily I convinced her to share a few with me.  Brooke is the pancake queen.

We did the normal church thang and Brooke wore her new dress that Pam sent her for her birthday.  Brooke’s expression is telling you that it is nap time and she was wondering why she was not in her crib.

In college I ate a wrap every single day for lunch.  The wrap has reentered my life and I feel good about that.

IMG 0331

Mer, my sister and her husband came over for dinner (Russian chicken and rice ((chicken cooked in Russian dressing and apricot preserves…sounds weird but it is delicious)) and then we all went on a walk.

I thought this was just too adorable.

IMG 0498

My sister saved the day by bringing over dessert.

I determined the other night that eating ice cream straight out of the container is one of life’s greatest joys so I think that eating pie straight out of the dish is pretty satisfying too.

I finally got a short little video of Brookers walking!!!  I will probably continue to cheer really loudly every time she walks for at least another year.  I am so proud.

Goal for this week:  do core work again.  I have gone from 6 days a week to once a week but it is time to go back to normal.

Now I just have to do it when Brooke is napping because I can no longer lie down on the ground without her plopping herself on my stomach.

Do you have any fitness related goals for this week?  How often do you do core work?

What were some of your college or high school food staples?

FAVORITE type of pie?

-My sister’s blackberry pie.

College food staples: Baby Carrots & plain flour tortillas. I had so many baby carrots that I had to take a two year break from eating them at all. Favorite pie: Strawberry rhubarb! I can eat a whole one by myself.

I run into the same problem with core work but my dog is the one who sits on my stomach.

Brooke makes an adorable walker! I totally know what you mean about getting in the core workout routine and then you miss it for a few days and suddenly it seems that much harder to do it again. I am doing planks and a few other small things about 3 days a week for my marathon training but that does not mean I like it! Love that photo of your parents + dog + mountains!

Reply

I just want to keep progressing with running and recovering my surgery! I do core work every day, though, because I know it’s really important! My college staple were these parfaits they made with yogurt, granola, raisins, and honey. I got one every.single.day. So good.

I think coconut cream or a chocolate shoo-fly pie is my favorite, but I am indecisive so things change daily.

Reply

I’m a beginner runner so my goal is to go three more times this week.
I have the same problem lying on the floor, but it’s my dog licking my face!
Yay Brook! Great walking!

Reply

oh my.. Brooke is just too cute. You two look so pretty dressed up for church.

I have been eating wraps for lunch for months now.. love them (mainly because you can stuff so much in them!)

I need to do core work WAY more often- I actually never do it..

and don’t hate me but I don’t like pie (I know.. I know..) but I do love ice cream, cookies and cake so I’m still okay right??

Thanks for the video of Brooke- love to see such a happy moment for you guys!

A few things: First, little girls in their church dresses are just so darn cute. Two, I love the watch and bag you are wearing in that pic! Do you remember where you got them from? Three, I love the proud look Brooke has on her face when she walks and the excited shouts from everyone.

Just wanted to say that I continue to be impressed and inspired by your positive attitude. You’ve created an awesome little community here, in which so many other people’s days are lifted up by you. That’s no small thing, considering all that seems to be on your plate. Thank you!

Reply

Gahhh I die of cuteness overload when I see that Brooker of yours! Too cute. And so exciting that she’s starting to walk! Love the video.

College staples were Lean Cuisines, quesadillas, PB & banana sandwiches, and cereal. Pretty much everything is the same except I’ve moved on from Lean Cuisines. ;)

Favorite type of pie? Cherry!!!

Reply

Yum, that wrap looks delicious! Almost as good as the pie… :)

Reply

My goals are to force myself to have some slow easy runs after my race yesterday. Then back at it, my goal by my birthday in a month is a 10k in an hour. I know that’s laughable to you, lol.

I love all dessert, but probably cheesecake or chocolate eclair are my favorites.

Food staples in college? Taco Bell. Yeah it’s that bad!

Reply

That pie looks amazing! My fave type of pie is strawberry rhubarb!

College days I survived on Costco size cereal. Come to think of it… I still live that way even though its been 10 years!

P.S. Your Mer is too cute!

Reply

I always had a peanut butter and jelly on wheat with low fat chocolate milk for dinner, after cross country practice. It was really yummy but I was mostly just scared of the cafeteria meats. I got a ‘scholarship’ for cross-country that was a free meal plan, so I wanted to use it!

Reply

It’s currently my cat that gets in the way of all core/cross training work. I need to figure that out.

Reply

If we are talking fruit pie I will say apple pie…but I guess since I love chocolate, I am going to say the kind of pie I would crave is a chocolate cream pie or a brownie pie or a Cold Stone Creamery ice cream/cake/brownie pie type creation!

Reply

Aw, first walking videos are the best! Such an exciting time!

I actually don’t really love pie. I hope we can still be friends.

Reply

umm can your mom come over and make me pancakes!? My favorite food in college were the subs at the cafeteria! So so good

Reply

I’m trying to do more core work too! I love most pie – pumpkin, apple, berry, lemon…and especially any kind of chocolate pie :)

Reply

More videos of Brooke please! She is so adorable

Reply

My running goal for the week is to regain my running confidence. After a few icky runs in a row, I’m irrationally doubting myself… silly Anne!

I cheered out loud along with you for Brooke, yey!!

Reply

Mac ‘n Cheese, salsa with chips, pizza, and Poptarts were some of my college staples… Clearly I was the epitome of health ;) BUt those were some amazing years and I have absolutely no regrets. And I’m seriously lusting over your pancake breakfast over here… My mom used to make me the -best- buttermilk pancakes, but it’s been forever since I was over early enough for her to make them. Maybe I can convince her to make them for dinner? :D

Reply

Hooray for Brooke walking!!! Love it!
Ugh I love core work but I’ve been terrible about getting that in. My goal this week is to just survive my busy week and hopefully fit in as many of my workouts as I can.
Favorite pie is chocolate cream!! Or a really good apple pie.

Reply

My fitness goal this week is to do cardio in the AM and strength training in the PM. I do core work 5-7x a week.

Highschool food staples: baby carrots, greek yogurt, and apples!

Favorite type of pie? ANY KIND OF PIE. Coconut cream and pecan are among my absolute favorites… but I love all pie and don’t discriminate. ;)

By the way, your outfit is so super cute. You’re stunning. Brooke is also pretty adorable herself :D

Reply

Cereal and bananas were a college staple. FOR SURE. :):)

Reply

Yay Brooke! What a cutie!!

I try to do core about 4 times a week….sometimes it happens, sometimes not. I actually hate doing it but I know I should.

Favorite pie is a toss up between pumpkin, apple, cherry, lemon meringue……clearly I love pie too much to choose just one!

Reply

Favorite pie? That’s tough. If it’s a fruit pie, I’d have to say homemade blueberry crumble. If it’s a cold pie, key lime. YUM! Now I want pie!

Reply

Just signed up for a race in 6 weeks, so my goal this week is to get back to a running routine. I’ve been travelling a lot the past few months, so running has been pretty irregular. My college staples were cereal and TJ’s pretzel rods (I’ve seen these make an appearance on your blog ;)… I ate cereal so much that I think I spent the past year without it. Had my first bowl a few weeks ago and it was incredibly delicious!!

Reply

Awww yay Brooke!!! Good for her! She is so adorable :)

Reply

yay brooke! i can’t believe she’s already 1 years old and walking! :)

my favorite pie is my grandma’s homemade apple pie – nothing else compares for me!

Reply

That is quality walking! How very very cute :)

Favourite pie: pumpkin. In fact it’s the only kind of pie I like

Favourite high school food: homemade macaroni and cheese. I crave it when I’m sick, sad, etc :). It’s my ultimate comfort food.

I probably do core work three to four times a week. Keep up your hard work!

Reply

Have you ever had chicken cooked in wishbone western dressing, apricot preserves, and dry onion soup mix?! People in TX think I’m insane :) (Midwestern girl). Try it!! So good!

Reply

Core work, weights, anything other than cardio has to be the goal. I can only stay committed to cardio, why??
College staple: subway

Reply

I will forgive you for not saying that my banana cream pie is my favorite. Only because I believe that there are ALWAYS sub categories within desserts. LIke you can’t choose a favorite pie…it has to be favorite fruit pie, and your favorite cream pie, etc. Or your favorite candy? Nope. Favorite candy bar, bagged candy, bulk candy, etc…

My favorite wrap is a tortilla (the uncooked kind that you cook) with hummus, red bell pepper, turkey and cucumbers. Or sometimes I just wrap sliced avocados in turkey and sprinkle it with pepper for a snack.

Yay for Brooke walking! I love when they first start and they look like drunken sailors. It’s adorable :)

Reply

*your favorite. I never proof read. I often wonder if my comments ever even make sense to you. Ha!

Reply

What an adorable video! Some of my college staples were an amazing thin crust veggie flatbread pizza, sushi, oatmeal, peanut butter and granola bars…not much has changed years later. For my fitness goals this week, I have a tempo run on tap tomorrow morning and my 18 mile long run Friday that I need to get in before work because of travel plans the rest of the weekend. Not looking forward to waking up in the 4am hour but luckily I have other crazy friends who offered to run with me!

Reply

I only do core work twice a week. I have slacked on it the last month and definitely felt it today in my strength class. Some of my college staples were sandwiches too, but I don’t really eat too many now. Is it weird that I only like half sandwiches or half wraps?

My favorite type of pie is probably turtle.

Reply

I love Brooke’s dress– so, so cute!

My favorite pie…hmm…it depends on the season and who is making it ;-) Right now, I’m craving pumpkin pie just because I’m getting anxious for fall!

Reply

That video of Brooke walking made my day! Just so cute!!! And you look just gorgeous in your pic from church :-)

My favorite pie is cherry..with whipped cream!

My college staple was rice with ranch dressing (I know, weird).

I try to do core work 5 times a week. There’s usually core work I. The group fitness classes I take so that helps!

Reply

I loved rice w ranch. Best if its Hidden Valley. :)

Reply

YAYYYY BROOKE!!! Her face is so sweet when she’s walking! She’s so proud and excited, I love it! :)

xo

Reply

I used to have a cappuccino pie EVERY year for my birthday! I’m not much of a pie person… does cheesecake count as a pie since it has crust? If so I choose that!

Reply

The mountains in the background of that photo are incredible! I can’t believe you’re so close. I’d love to see those some day.

Reply

Abs and arms, abs and arms, abs and arms… Maybe if I say it over and over again I’ll actually do it this week!
Goooooo Brooke! She’s so adorable. More videos please!

My favourite type of pie is my nan’s Butterscotch Meringue Pie. Ohhhhhh deliciousness.

Reply

Go Brooke! So exciting!

Fitness goals…stick to my running plan! I am so bad at following directions! I have a 5k on Sunday evening and I hope to finish in under 23 minutes.

I lived on bagel sandwiches and chick fil a grilled chicken salads… And the occasional midnight Papa Johns pizza!

Reply

My goal is to complete a marathon over 3 days and to do yoga and to get a good x-train day in.

My high school staple was Pepsi and a salad with both ranch and salsa on it.

My favorite pie is pumpkin :)

Reply

I’m still in college and chicken sandwiches are a staple. That and baby carrots. And ice cream. And annie’s mac and cheese. And a lot of other things that I can’t remember. I love your church outfits!

Reply

college staples were mac n cheese and chicken nuggets! mmmm. that is too funny that brooke just sits down on your stomach- maybe that will make the core work even harder? ;)

Reply

-I’m running a half on Saturday so this week is a less-intense week as far as workouts go.

-cereal was a serious food staple of mine in college!! and fruit snacks. yikes.

-my Grandma makes the most amazing apple pie and strawberry pie, they both tie for my favorite.

Reply

I do core about 2-3 times a week. I keep saying I will step it up but no change yet. I am a sucker for pecan pie. I can eat it by the case if allowed.

Reply

My running goal is to make it through all my runs now that i’m back at work. And to survive another week of marathon training. What was i thinking? I was Janae?

Reply

Brooke walking si so cute!
My favorite type of pie is Pumpkin, hands down!
I do core work everyday right when I wake-up, I love it. Planks, tons of different ab exercises, bridges, pushups, moves with the Pilates ball, even core moves with plates and dumbbells. It gets my body up and moving for the day!

Reply

Mmmm pancakes! Yum.
Favorite type of pie by far is pumpkin. I eat it for breakfast in the fall lol.
I do core work about 4-5 times a week. Probably bc I love it and it only takes 15 mins.

I didnt have any high school staples but I loved my cafeteria pizza subs so id get one of those at least twice a week lol.

Reply

Congrats Brooke!!

I think I lived soley on peanut butter and pizza!

Reply

I do core work on average 3 times a week but lately I have been trying to make it more often, I know it is good for me.

Staple in college was lemon ice, and chicken salads.

Yay for Brooke walking, before you know it she will be running circles around you!

Reply

I don’t like pie. The crust bothers me… Weird I know. My mom makes pumpkin pie without the crust and I love that!
Brooke walking = cutest thing ever! My girls are fighting over who gets to watch it (and that’s after they’ve both had about ten turns!). Aliana’s comment: “Oh my goodness! Baby to mama!” Everything is “oh my goodness” right now and it’s my favorite!

Reply

Oh my gosh! I forgot to comment on Brooke’s video! Way to go sweet little thing!

Reply

My goal is to actually run when I say I’m going to run this week. I’m trying to get back into the morning running routine consistently. Consistently is the key point there. Such a cute video of Brooke walking!

Reply

Fitness goal: Always, always do some type of abs-workout after my regular workout… it’s just hot here, so I sometimes just dump myself on the couch after returning from outside.

Staples of high school/college food: PUPPY CHOW or muddy buddies!!! Especially the homemade brownie-batter covered kind. Also I only ate chicken fingers in high school.. but then in college I was super poor.. so I ate a lot of soup.

Pie? I don’t like pie. But I live alone.. so I eat everything from its container (including ice cream). So I admire the pie in the dish. :)

Reply

I think my fitness goal is to actually work out this week. Last week was a total bust. :(

I didn’t really have a staple food in high school, unless you count a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese quickly washed down with some nesquick for breakfast. Oh my yum! As far college is concerned, I think I was into beef patties a whole lot. Oh man. Now I have to go to Costco to buy some. Ha.

My favorite type of pie would probably be apple or peach.

Brooke is just the most adorable thing. I love her little giggles. <3

ps. I love your bag!

Reply

My workout goals this week are to also do more
Core work ( it is the one thing I put to the side and never end up doing)

Favorite pie is pumpkin pie heated with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Soooo good :)

Reply

Brook is walking! What a cutie! I love how excited she gets – that’s precious!

Reply

College staple: breakfast burritos! Yummy…

Favourite pie: strawberry rhubarb!

Fitness goals this week: hmmm…maybe go for a run sometime…this temp gardener job is taking a lot out of me! Going on week 4 now…

Reply

My FAVORITE type of pie is peach for sure!

Reply

Janae- You are so strong! I can’t imagine what you are going through. You are such a wonderful mother and Brooke is so lucky. You two will be just fine. :) Thinking of you.

Reply

I can tell already that it won’t be long and Brooke will be running…just like Mama! Woo hoo!

Reply

Omigosh I cannot believe that Brooke is walking! She is the cutest kid ever <3

Reply

Brooke will be running soon! I do core work never but that’s about to change because I joined a new gym that will be opening next month and I am determined to start going to regular classes for some strength training (I can run for miles, but have zero muscles). My favorite pie is either key lime, or lemon icebox. I love tart pies.

Reply

I had a fitness goal for this week and I did it today!!! It was a stamina workout of 50 minutes at a 7:11-7:15 pace. I ended up with a 7:09ish pace for the 50 minutes…made me super happy. It was one of those I am nervous about this runs :).
High school staple was a bagel, frappachinos and cereal!

Reply

I try to do core work after every run or walk, but it usually ends up happening only once or twice a week… Oops.

My favorite pie and high school staple are the same… Marie Callender’s sour cream and blueberry pie. When it was that pie’s ‘month’ my mom would buy one for me every week. It was almost ridiculous. When the pie wasn’t on sale, my afternoon snack was a huge bowl of buttery popcorn. For being an athlete, I didn’t eat healthy at all!

I love the bag you took to church! Where did you get it?!

Reply

Good thing you helped her. That’s a LOT of pancakes for such a little girl. :)

College staples: Turkey & Cheese Sandwich with lots of pickles (usually made at dinner and snuck out of the cafeteria for lunch the following day) AND Two Bowl Dinner: One bowl of salad, One bowl of cereal (when none of the regular dinner offerings sounded good to me).

Reply

Well done Brooke!

Reply

Yes, your parents are really adorable. :-)
Love that about my parents too, they are sooo cute together.

My fitness goals? Hm, I want to actually do the speed work I am supposed to do.

And I don’t like pie.

Reply

The dress is sooo cute that Pam sent her. I also love the video~!

Reply

Mac and cheese and grilled cheese were my go-to meals in college.

Brooke looks so excited about walking! Too cute.

Reply

I love blackberry pie! When my grandma asked what I wanted for my birthday… that’s what my answer always was. She also made blackberry dumplings. It’s like the inside of the pie and the dumplings are the crust. It’s so good.
I need to get back to core work too!

Reply

My favourite pie ever is and always will be peach pie. I could eat it forever.

fitness goals- to let my hip heal and get back to regular workouts… when it’s ready.

Reply

you are gorgeous!!! love seen Brooke walking, such a big milestone :)

Reply

I can’t think of a single bad pie but right now, I’m loving peach pie!

When I try to do planks at home, my two year old loves to try to crawl under me like I’m a bridge. It motivates me to hold it up a little longer, that’s for sure!

Reply

Oh my lord I can’t believe she’s walking. How is she already a year old?

My favorite pie is my fiance’s family recipe for Chocolate Creme Pie. It’s pretty insane…and we easily go through an entire thing in 2 or 3 days, by ourselves.

Reply

I do core work everyday…because of Y-O-U! Forever ago when I read that you did the 8 minute abs daily I started to do it. But now I found a few other videos that I like a bit better (just harder)- by Fitness Blender- and a do those daily. I feel like it really does help my running.
ADORE Brooke’s walk…and her smile is even better. You can tell she is so proud of herself! And she should be :)

Reply

YAY BROOKE!!! She is just too adorable!! You look gorg too Janae! :)

Reply

Lol! I know the feeling! I can’t do a single bit if core work or rolling/ stretching w/o my 2 yr old plonking down on me!!! Yah Brooker for walking!!!! So exciting! She’ll be running soon !

Reply

Working out with a toddler afoot is such a challenge!!! She is adorable :) And we have a houseful of pancake royalty. Blueberry is my favorite, but my kids prefer chocolate chip.

College staple…bagels and ice cream. More specifically, a bagel with melted cheese and cookies and cream ice cream. I was such a healthy eater :P

Baked goods right from the pan/dish are when they’re at their most exceptional…as is ice cream from the container. Agreed.

Reply

I do love pumpkin or pecan pie. And good old apple pie. Actually anything baked with ice cream. I try for four – five days a week of core work. I have a similar problem withy puppy dog who every time I do core work or stretch, she tries to sit in me or bite my feet. I usually give her a bone to distract her. Don’t think you could do that with Brooke though!!!

Reply

I used to eat in the “Mexican restaurant” on campus – it was far from real Mexican food but for some reason their salsas were amazing, I could put it on everything, hahaha.

Reply

Love this blog…college staple food was pizza.

I love your purse!! Is it mass produced so I can be your twinner? haha
