A question for you and extra endorphins.

Please tell me you saw this:

Just reading about this man running TWENTY SIX POINT TWO miles in flip flops made that area between my big toe and pointer finger toe throb. I seriously cannot get over how crazy this is. Maybe I will try a mile on my treadmill today in my rainbow flip flops just to get a small taste of this new ‘flip-flop running’ fad… who knows, maybe it prevents injuries.

————————————————————

Today’s run was 9 miles @ a 8:06 average pace. Brooke woke up at mile 5 but just sat there watching me run when usually she starts crying a few minutes after waking up when she realizes I am paying attention to something other than her.

Screen Shot 2012 10 17 at 11 21 00 AM

The reason for her letting me get a few extra miles was because she knew I needed the extra endorphin fix before a massive spit-up that happened just an hour later….

Photo 1 copy

Brooke and I are headed out to have some lunch with friends at the park and so I made my absolute favorite no-bake cookies to take with me:

DSC 4379

These were my #1 pregnancy craving during the 3rd trimester and I would eat a few of them each day. PS try freezing them… that is my favorite way to eat them.

The worst part of making these cookies is cleaning the peanut butter out of the measuring cups. I am going to see how long I can leave this cup in the sink before Billy gets frustrated with seeing it and cleans it himself.

Before I go I have a very important question that I need your help with because it is keeping me from sleeping because I am so worried about making the wrong decision. I am ordering Brooke’s halloween costume tonight and I need your help on what she should be:

A: A poodle in remembrance of the poodle that I had growing up that was my best friend.

B: A lobster because it is the cutest thing ever.

C. Some form of candy because I love candy so very much.

Sugar babies infant costume

D. A box of FMW. I haven’t found a picture of this costume online so you are just going to have to imagine it on your own.

E. Other: any other really good ideas for baby costumes?

I hear that is you fill a measuring cup with HOT water, then after dumping out the water (and don’t dry it), fill it up with your sticky stuff (PB, honey, ect), it’s ALL suppose to come out with minimal clean up. Not sure if it’s true, but I’m going to try it next time.

Reply

I spray mine with cooking spray before filling it. Helps a lot!

Reply

Augh! I got distracted and forgot to vote for the lobster!! Definitely the lobster.

Reply

yeah i came in here to say the same thing!

Reply

def the poodle!

Reply

The candy corn costume FOR SURE!!!!!

Reply

Lobster! That is the cutest thing ever. 2nd place? Candy. My personal favorite….nothing is cuter than baby pumpkins.

Reply

Since she’s so little, it will depend on whether she will get fussy with something covering her head or not. That candy one might be good (kind of like a onesie/ sleeping bag, haha) if she doesn’t like all the poofy stuff or something on her head. If not, the lobster looks pretty awesome.

Reply

That lobster one is super cute! We went with a triceratops dinosaur! ; ) But you know basically anything you put her in will be super duper cute.

Reply

My husband does that thing about leaving things in the sink ‘to soak’ and then me having to clean them two days later. Poor poor Billy!!!!!

Lobster. Or candy.

Reply

I love the lobster and the poodle! I am also partial to cute baby owls!

Reply

Definitely the lobster, it is adorable!
Woah I find it hard to run 10 metres in my thongs/flip flops, that is crazy!
Your cookies have sparked a craving in me too, which is perfect as I just got a brand new KitchenAid mixer for my birthday & was wondering what the first thing I make should be. Have a great day :)

Reply

Spray the measuring cup with some cooking spray before you put anything in. You won’t have any sticking. I bought a sprayer and safflower oil at Home Goods. It works like a charm.

Reply

I do this – it works great!

Reply

i don’t always have cooking spray handy, but smearing a bit of oil also works really well!

Reply

I like the candy. She is as sweet as sugar!

Reply

Spray your measuring cup with non-stick cooking spray before putting pb in it and it’s supposed to keep it from sticking!!!! all those costumes are so cute so no matter what you pick she is going to look adorable!!!!!

Reply

I have THE CUTEST goldfish costume that I got at Target! My second wore it and I loved it so much that my third wore it for her first Halloween too! It’s great because the bottom was enclosed so their feet didn’t get cold!

Reply

definitely the candy corn…although i agree with heather…a baby owl would be super cute too!

Reply

LOBSTER LOBSTER LOBSTER. oh my gosh I’ve never seen anything cuter

and how can you leave a spoonful of PB in the sink untouched?! i would have that cup and spoon licked clean in a minute!

Reply

The candy corn! That is the cutest little costume I have ever seen! I am preggo right now and had already been planning that costume for next year – saw it on Pinterest! So adorable… plus you adore candy corn so its perfect!

Reply

Lobster!!!! Lobster!! Then you and Billy can dress up like chefs or other fish!

Reply

B!!!! A lobster is so cute and different!

Reply

I love the candy corn, and the lobster, so cute! How do you stay on the treadmill for so long? I am new to running and up until now (dark early and after work) have been able to run outside. I struggle to stay on for 30 minutes!

Reply

LOBSTER

Reply

All of the costumes are cute…I like the candy corn!

Reply

I like the lobster and the candy corn!

Reply

Candy!!!!! You all need to go as candy!! Or a large piece of candy corn. Billy in all orange, you in all yellow, and Brooke is all white!

Reply

OMG lobsterrrr babyyyy!!! TOO cute! :) A little ballerina is always adorable too with a big tutu :)

Reply

the lobster for sure! But anything you pick will look adorable!

Glad Brooke let you get in a great run- what an awesome baby to just chill for you like that :)

Reply

Oh man it is a toss up between the lobster and the candy corn! I’m leaning towards candy corn. Maybe a lobster dressed as candy corn??? WIN.

Reply

A sub 3 marathon in flip-flops?? Madness!!!

Reply

She HAS to be candy! I mean, you are HRG!

Reply

get a pampered chef ‘measure all’. For PB, shortening, etc.
you’re welcome! :)

Reply

I just totally admire how you could run miles and miles on TM. What’s your trick about getting bored/ and constantly wantting to stop? BTW, Brooke is getting more and more adorable… which I thought was impossible! :P

Reply

FMW!!! Because she is so tiny you can use the actual box to make her a costume.

Reply

Oh my gosh I love the fuzzy Candy Corn costume!! FMW box would be cute but not sure how she’d hold up in a box costume for to long LOL

My toes are aching just looking at Levasseur running in flip flops..ouch!

Reply

You need a DOG and then you can just let him lick the PB off the spoon and measuring cup. You’re welcome!

Reply

Definitely go for the FMW!

Or as a runner up, the lobster

Reply

poodle!! so so cute.

i’m sure someone has already said this, but i am too lazy to read the other comments. if you rinse the cup out with hot water before you measure the peanut butter, it will slide right out and leave way less clean up!

Reply

LOBSTER!!! :) And… yes, train her to watch you run on the treadmill. The boys spent a lot of time watching me run on that thing. Ha ha.

Reply

What were you for your first Halloween?? Brooke should be the same…cute side-by-side photo opp! I was a dalmatian and one day my future daughter will be too! :)

Reply

Lobster!! For sure.

I am glad you got your endorphins! Have fun eating cookies in the park :)

Reply

HAHA I know Keith!! When I lived in MD, we were in the same running group of friends.

I love the lobster outfit!

Reply

oh my gosh, my toes are also suffering from phantom chaffing! ouch!!

okay, u have to score a Junior Mint costume for brooke! :)

Reply

Lobster, for sure.

Reply

I think the lobster is soo cute!!’

Reply

A Lobster! BUT – You have to put her in a big Lobster Pot and you have to dress up as a chef in a white chef coat and the hat. A big Serving fork tops off the costume.

Reply

Set a square of plastic wrap inside your measuring cup; pack the cup with peanut butter; remove the plastic wrap and scrape off PB with a spatula; throw away plastic wrap!

Reply

aww my daughter was a pink poodle for her 2nd Halloween, but that lobster is so awesome!

Reply

Lobster for sure! It’s so cute.

Reply

Lobster or candy corn! Either one is adorable

Reply

the lobster!!!

Reply

Ohmygosh the lobsta is so cute!

The man running 26.2 in flip flops…just wow!!

Reply

Candy corn!!! No question about it.

Reply

that candy corn is absolutely adorable! but I’m from maine, so I’ve got to put my vote on the lobster :)

Reply

I have a couple friends who dressed their baby Hugh up like a lobster for his first Halloween and dressed themselves as French chefs. Her hubby even carried Hugh around in a big pot at the party they went to and he loved it!

Reply

The flip flop dude races at a lot of the same local races as me and I love how much attention he’s getting for this. :) Just to think, I was impressed when he ran 39.5 miles in less than 6 hours at a race back in May, but this may top that!

Reply

My feet hurt just thinking about that guy in the flip flops. I wonder if he had to get his toes amputated after that…. *shudder*

I vote lobster or candy corn for sure. That last costume would match her spiky hair :)

Reply

Spray your measuring cup with Pam (or any non-stick cooking spray) before filling with PB and it will come out very easily!

Reply

I think the lobster is really cute, but she has to be a box of FMW.

Reply

Lobster all the way.

Reply

That guy is cray-zee pants mcgee! I can’t believe he did that and walked to tell it!
I agree 100% on trying to get the leftover PB out of the measuring cup, I resort to licking as much off as I can! ;)))
My daughter was a monkey on her 1st Halloween last year! The candy corn costume is adorable!!!

Reply

Candy Corn. Just do it.

Reply

Lobstah!!!

Reply

CANDY.CORN.COSTUME. All they way:)

Reply

I think you’ve got to go with A. or B. So cute!

Reply

That lobster costume is the cutest thing ever!! Great find :)

Reply

I wanted to get my son the lobster soooooooo bad but it was too pricey, and ended up getting a dragon. Please, let me live vicariously through you and get the lobster :)

Reply

I would have to go with the lobster. Definitely, the lobster.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I have no idea how that guy did that!

Reply

My friend’s son was a lobster about the same age as Brooke is now. Her dad dressed up as a chef and put the baby in the lobster costume in a big stock pot. It was SO flippin’ cute.

Reply

As cute as the lobster is (It’s pretty awesome!), I think that it would be more appropriate for her to be dressed up as a candy!

Reply

I can’t believe someone finished a marathon in flip flops! That’s incredible! I wish I was that coordinated… although I don’t want to know how his feet were feeling afterwards.
I’d definitely go for the candy costumes! Or what about dressing her up as a little mini runner? That would be so cute and so fitting for you and Billy :)

Reply

Go with the lobster costume, it is adorable. You and Billy could wear lobster bibs like the ones restuarants give you when you order lobster. :)

I live in the Baltimore area and the Baltimore Running Festival is one of my favorite running venues and was my first marathon. This year my friends and I tried the relay. It was great because we finished our leg early and got to see the first marathon runner finish! However, we never saw the guy running in his flip flops. He is crazy, I don’t know how he did it. Baltimore is not an easy marathon course!

Reply

This needs to be Brooke:
http://kecute.wordpress.com/2007/10/12/baby-lobster-costume/

Reply

C’mon – ya gotta go with the candy! Or else like a marathon runner or something – she already has the shoes :)

Reply

Spray a little cooking spray or a touch of oil in the measuring cups before putting the peanut butter in. It just slides right out

Also, that candy corn costume is TOO cute! This will be my son’s 1st Halloween this year and we decided he’s going to be a little pumpkin :)

Reply

I wonder how long it took him to find the perfect marathon flip flop? I wouldn’t be surprised if whatever brand flip flops he’s wearing will capitalize on this- I mean, if you can run 26.2 miles in them we can assume they’re comfortable for walking around the mall.

I feel like the candy corn is the most baby friendly for Brooke, but the lobster is pretty cute as well!!

Reply

You had a poodle too? We had two standard poodles when I was growing up and they are the best dogs. Even though I love poodles, I think that the candy corn costume is adorable.

Reply

I saw a lamb costume for babies today and I thought of Brooke =)

Reply

Is it just me – or does the blonde guy in the background of that shot look like NPH???

and I’ve run in flipflops. It’s actually pretty easy, though I only did about 2 miles.

lobster. I think Brooke should be a lobster and you and Billy can dress up like chefs and you could even put her in a big pot :)

Reply

A lobster. You and Billy should dress up as Chef’s and carry her around in a big huge pot!!

Reply

This flip flop guy is nuts! I would be tripping all over the place before I made it 100m. I vote that Brooke is a lobster or candy, I mean, you are pretty candy obsessed…but the lobster is just too freakin cute.

Reply

I love the candy corn costume, but it might be cuter next year when she can walk.

I have found that when I am getting injuries, it is because I am not wearing flipflops running around (not running, but errands). I have also found that walking barefoot on the dreadmill also helps strengthen my feet.

Reply

All of those costumes are too cute I don’t know how you could decide!
If you choose the lobster connect a string to all of the arms so when she moves her arms all of the arms move!

Home made cookies are almost always better frozen, yummy!

Reply

I vote the lobster, it’s hilarious!!

Reply

Brooke has to be a lobster or I will cry! Lol

Reply

Running a marathon in flip flops is completely crazy, I can’t even imagine. The cookies look delicious. I love no bake oat cookies, especially with PB. I bet they would be good with some added cocoa. My neice was the same poodle for Halloween a couple of years ago and it was SUPER cute. Whatever you choose I know Brooke will be adorable.

Reply

I have a measuring cup that slides, great for peanut butter and other sticky stuff. I may have gotten it at Pampered Chef. found it

I don’t do the marathon distance yet but I can totally see me running in flip flops. Right now I’m doing part of my workout in socks (yuk to running barefoot on the gym’s treadmill) and hope to go mostly barefoot once I’m outside.

I like the candy corn. If she gets cold, you just slip on sweats, otherwise a onesie is just fin.

Reply

OMG THE CANDY CORN

Reply

That dude in flip flops is crazy! What people will do for a world record. *smh* lol. Did you see that guy that beat the record for running a marathon in a full-on business suit? :D

Is there a recipe somewhere for those delicious looking no-bake cookies?

I vote for the cutey candy corn, but I don’t know where you live. It might be too cold for that, so then maybe the lobster.

Reply

but they didn’t mention what shoes he was wearing

Reply

Try spraying your measuring cups with PAM – makes clean up super easy!

Reply

Jack is being a lobster! Just a warning though, the costume picture you posted only comes in size 6-12 months or something so I had to order a different one that is slightly less cute, but still awesome! Then I’m going to be a chef and carry him around in a pot… Yeah right, like he’ll actually go for that…:)

Reply

Candy corn is beyond appropriate!!! I vote candy corn, OMG I am dying!!! My girls were M&M’s for their 1st Halloween. I was also nervous about making the wrong choice for their 1st every costume but now 3 years later I love it! They were the cutest little M&M’s ever!

Reply

Lobster!! Its the cutest thing ever!

Reply

Put plastic wrap over you. Measuring cup add peanut butter. When you have to put the peanut butter out of the cup grab bot sides of the plastic and lift up. Nomess to clean up nd all you have to do is throw away the plastic

Reply

Lobster! MOST DEF!

Reply

I did see that – I am from Bmore and they featured him on our local news – you should definately try this race – I think we have the best crowd support EVER (and there are some people that hand out candy corn and gummy bears to runners on course!) This year I was part of a relay team and did 7 miles of the marathon course…I also chair my companies charity team for the festival – this year we had blind people participate in the half and 5K!!

Reply

i vote for the candy corn costume, but seriously, all of them are so gosh darn cute!

Reply

I vote for all of them. She can be ultra diva and change every few hours. I know this doesn’t help.. but it’s realistic, clearly! P.S. I went to Target, was searching the cereal aisle. Thought of your love for FMW, and instantly got a craving. Shelf was completely empty. SO LAME. I ended up with the FMW Mini mini’s. They aren’t nearly as good.. but they will have to do ;)

Reply

The Sugar Babies one is so cute!!! Have you seen the youtube video” S*** Runners Say”? I feel like you would appreciate it!

Reply

Lobster!!! That outfit is soooo cute!!!

Reply

Omgoodness they are all so cute! My friend is leaning towards buying her 10month old son the lobster costume too! My only thought is, to not buy a costume where the headpiece is a big deal because it is very likely that little Ms. Brooke may not want to wear it.

Reply

LOBSTER for sure!!!
…or maybe a candy of some kind :)

Reply

For sure, the candy costumes! I like the lobster one but it might be a little uncomfortable lol. Are you going to go TOT with her?

Reply

I vote lobster because the poodle’s kind of too extreme, but candy can still be used for the next few years (toddlers in a candy costume – still cute … toddlers in a lobster costume – kind of weird).

Reply

I’ve always like the peas in the pod for a little baby. My baby was almost a year for his first Halloween so it didn’t fit. Of your choices…I vote candy corn!

Reply

Lobster!!
And like the others say, cooking spray helps the measuring cups. Also right into a sink full of sudsy hot water.

Reply

The baby lobster costume for sure!

Reply

Lobster or Candy Corn!

Reply

I live in Baltimore and this guy was all over our news! Crazy!! As an aside, I was supposed to run in the NWM this past weekend but I’ve been injured so I enjoyed reading your posts about it – made me feel like I got some of the experience of being there! Here’s to hoping I can get in the lottery again next year when I’m well!
I vote for the candy corn bc that costume is literally the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen!
PS. 1st time commentor and I love your blog!!

Reply

helpful tip: if you oil your measuring cup the peanut butter slides right out :)
love the candy corn costume !

Reply

Lobster for sure!

Reply

LOBBY!!!!

Reply

The poodle or the candy corn costume!! Btw.. I just recently found your blog and now read it daily! Congrats on your recent NWM half marathon – really enjoyed the recap.

Reply

Dress her up like a frosted mini wheat and YOU dress up like the box. Box and mini wheatie. CUTE! :)

Reply

I love this! :)

Reply

Recipe tip-Spray your measuring cup with a little cooking spray before you start. The pb will slide right out. Works for honey too!

I think you should choose one of the candy costumes for Brooke. It just makes sense with your love for candy! Maybe you could find a Swedish fish costume?

TJ’s tip-if you like pumpkin their pumpkin granola-YUM! So good over a bowl of their pumpkin & vanilla flavored Greek yogurt mixed. I love pumpkin!!

Reply

I don’t know if the lobster comes in sizes or not but my friend got it for her baby and the middle/body part is huge! The hat and feet fit but the middle swallows her and she is 4 months old. Just a thought…..

Reply

hmm-that is so hard to do for us westerners-run in fliplops-but the chilren in africa do it all the time-don’t think it deserves a place in the record books at all personally. but he can have it-i ‘m not going to try to beat him.

Reply

I think lobster!
A strawberry or a shark are also really cute. Shark is better when they can crawl because then you can sing the Jaws theme and it looks hilarious.

Man my ankles hurt just reading about that guy! I vote dressing B up as a Jolly Rancher…blue raspberry or grape :)

Reply

Lobster!!!!!! So cute!

I’m all for minimalism, but flip flops?! I wonder if he super-glued them onto some part of his foot… What a champ.

Reply

i vote you guys get a puppy, puppies love licking peanut butter off of ANY surface! i speak from experience :)

Reply

oh my!!! how cute is the candy corn baby!!!!

Reply

You should crochet the candy corn one yourself!!
I don’t understand the flip flop thing, but did you read “Born to Run”? There is a guy that sells sandals like the natives wore in the book called Luna Sandals. I don’t hardly ever wear flip-flops so I imagine you would have to work up to it. Although he is quite the heel striker.
I must be old, I vote – go to target and get a pumpkin sleeper and save your money. Hahaha. I made all my kids costumes for years.

Reply

I’m leaning towards the fuzzy candy corn ensemble!

Reply

First of all, I absolutley love your blog! I am new to reading blogs. Between you and Mama Laughlin, I am hooked! Secondly, the candy corn costume is the cutest..

Reply

Try going to a local kids consignment store. There should be a lot of cute infant costumes. Brooke would be cute in anything and you will save lots os $$$.

Reply

I ran the Baltimore marathon relay last weekend and I saw this guy – CRAZY!!!

Reply

I love the lobster! Also I have the perfect way to get the peanut butter out of your utensils. Get a puppy! Puppies LOVE peanut butter. 100% of the time, it works every.time.

Reply

The lobster hands down!

Reply

That guys is CRAZY!!! I can’t even imagine. Good for him, though!!!

And, I vote for the lobster. For sure! SOOOOO cute!!!

Reply

Brooke should be CANDY! Of course!

Reply

The Lobster!!! I mean, she will be adorable in anything, but you’re right. The lobster outfit is ridiculously cute! OH and I just saw a picture on pinterest….she could easily pull off the baby Princess Leia http://pinterest.com/pin/208291551486060860/

Reply

1. That is crazy that someone ran a MARATHON in flip flops!!!
2. I let the dog lick out the PB from the measuring cup. . . if you don’t have a dog (which I know you don’t!) then spray the cup with non-stick cooking spray before filling it up and the pb will just slide out with none stuck inside! And Billy will love you forever. :)
3. I think you have to go with a candy theme costume, just cause you love it so much! But the lobster is pretty dang cute too.

Reply

I say lobster – but the candy corn dress/hat combo is a pretty close second! Adorable.

Reply

I vote lobster! A co-worker dressed one of his kids as a lobster years ago when she was a baby…and took the most classic picture ever of said lobster dressed baby in a giant soup pot. It cracks me up everytime I see it!

Reply

I think lobster or sugar baby costume!!!! SO CUTE!!

If you do the lobster thing, you have to carry her around in a stock pot ;-) I saw this picture the other day and died laughing and wish I had a child…. yah just for halloween, not ready for a full committment :-P

I vote chicken costume. What do you think?
And a while back I blogged about a runner I saw trail running in flipflops. I wonder if they use bodyglide? my toes would really cramp around that little piece of plastic. But maybe it`s actually good for form…?

Reply

I say go with the candy corn costume-it is too darn cute.
