Carb-Loading Is Tough Work:

How awesome are these shirts…….probably my new favorite race shirt ever and please expect to see me wearing it for the next month.  My MIL will love it when I show up to Thanksgiving dinner with this on.

So the carbloading did occur.  Would you expect any less from us?

Billy went with dos bean burritos a la Costco……

I went with some french toast and a side of eggs (not pictured because they were still cooking).

You know your mom is awesome when she has a costco sized tub of Mrs. Buttersworth.

We are all sleeping at my parents house so that we can drive over to the busses together and make sure that we all wake up.  I always dream the night before the race that I slept in and wake up to make it in time to watch everyone finish…..such a hard life I live.

Let’s just say that this pan containing my favorite 7 layer bars has already been washed and put away.  There might have been over 1/3 of a pan left when I got to my parents….it didn’t survive the Janaezilla long.

Check back in a few hours for the unveiling of our costumes.  I am not sure how my headpiece is going to last through 13.1 miles of running, there may also be a lot of chaffing and tripping involved due to our costumes in this race but it will all be worth it in the end.

Have you ever tripped while running?

-I don’t know what Utah’s deal is but the sidewalks are so uneven and those silly little cracks just jump out at me.  I think I have fallen at least 10 times over the last few years.

Anyone have a delicious dessert last night?

-7 Layer bars……what would you add for the 8th layer?  I would add marshmallows.

Do you sleep well the night before a race?

Defs ate at least 4 dark chocolate covered rice krispies last night….hmmmm :D

No ‘wow’ dessert last night other than Lindt sea salt…who am I kidding, it is pretty ‘wow’!

I trip all the time. I swear the floor raises on its own sometimes.

Uhm.. I believe the recipe calls for butterscotch chips, so I’d probably throw some pb chips in there somewhere. Maybe some choc. covered coffee beans or something. Gummy bears? Why not.

I couldn’t sleep before my half marathon but the other race I did, i slept okay. I think I was nervous I wouldn’t be able to finish and they would find me in the woods somewhere because I couldn’t finish the race! You never know.

I can’t wait to see your costume :)

My mom makes those cookie bars! So good and addiciting:)

Only on trails but never actually fallen (big jinx there).
I had a couple of cookies with me at the hockey game. Chocolate dipped Coconut Macaroons.
I do not sleep well before a race. Dreams of oversleeping and missing the start.

Ugh I trip all the time. I have only fallen a couple of times but it’s always a travesty when I do (bloody knee, scraped up palms, ick). And treadmills, forget about it, I am always tripping on those (I blame the treadmill, not my feet). Good luck today!! Can’t wait to see what your costumes are!!!

Ugh. I tripped a couple of weeks ago and busted up my shin something awful. A tourist family stopped to help. I was so embarrassed!

Good luck at the race today! Can’t wait to see the costumes!

oh my goodness, I love those seven layer bars. Once I brought them over to a friend’s house and her mom said she grew up calling them “Hello Dolly Bars” um, what?

Have you ever tripped while running?
Yes, once I fell and got 9 stitches in my knee. That was not a fun day…except that I got a frozen strawberry lemonade and a redbox movie on the way home from the ER.

My dessert last night was a bowl of frosted flakes and an ice-cream filled raspberry popsicle. A great combo, I must add.

-7 Layer bars……what would you add for the 8th layer? Ohhh, marshmallows would be great! Or somehow adding a layer of PB in there

Do you sleep well the night before a race?
Not usually!

That is a really cute race shirt. I have a similar one is gray. Black is so much better. Billy’s burrito looks far to small for proper carb loading, so I’m hoping he inhaled half of that before the picture was taken. Or there was at least seconds. ;-)

Good luck and have fun today!!!!!

Dessert: my boss sent me home with homemade dark chocolate meltaways to “taste test.” Awful job, I have!!:-)

Soft-Serve Vanilla Frappe…the morning I wake up on race day I feel like it’s one CHRISTMAS MORNING or two I am getting on an early flight at the airport.

I can’t wait to see your costumes! I’ve never dressed up to run a race but I think it would be so much fun. Hopefully in the next few months I’ll find a race to do that!
Last night’s dessert was way too much candy corn…that stuff is absolutely addictive!

I trip all.the.time. Usually it’s more of my foot rolling inward than tripping, which is even worse because I’m afraid I’ll sprain my ankle or something. But one time I was running and tripped, managed to catch myself before I completely fell, but the sudden jerk forward made my head hurt and it scared me so bad I just had to stand there for a minute.

I had some delicious ice cream last night.

And I’m starting to freak out about my half next Sunday. I haven’t decided if I’m going to go up the day before the race and rent a hotel room, or just go up the day of the race and have to wake up super early in the morning. Both have their pros and cons…

I love 7 layer bars!!! Hmm PB would be great in it.

Since I run about 5x slower than you I don’t trip because I actually have time to see what is on the ground in front of me, unlike you, champ.

Is peanut butter one of those layers? If not, that’s my vote fo sho!

I trip walking, I got skills.
Seven layer bars are so good, I don’t think I would change them.
I usually sleep pretty well before a race.

I’ve tripped probably 5 times in 7 years. 2 of them in races, including the marathon last weekend. That one was my fault , I didn’t see the pothole at mile 14. My knee is all busted up and purple but feels fine.

The other race another runner tripped me at mile 12.75 of a half.

I still PR’d both races.

Reply

tripped while running? no, walking yes:)

i had hot cocoa and 2 oreos for dessert, yummy.

good luck at the race, can’t wait to see your costumes!

I love that shirt! Yes, I’ve tripped while running and my hubby even tripped the very first time we ran together…he was so embarrassed and I felt so bad for him :) Can’t wait for the costume!

OMGGG do you have a recipe for those bars? I need them. Like seriously, NEED.

I totally trip when I run all the time. Sometimes over my own feet. I’m quite the graceful runner :-P

GOOD LUCK to you and Bils and your sis!!! I can’t wait to see the epic costumes and hear the race report! :-D

Good luck on the race, girl!!! Our half marathon is in 2 weeks from today and I’m getting nervous (I’m not a seasoned-pro like you!!)! :)

Oh gosh, I’ve tripped plenty of times while running. Talk about embarrassing. That shirt is freakin AWESOME!

I fall all the time! Walking, running, standing still, it don’t matter! I’m such a mortifying person.

I actually sleep amazingly well before races – I’ve run all my races but one in NYC so I would have to take public transportation far far away at about 4 am and consequently went to bed at 8 but somehow never had a problem adjusting to that bed time.

GOOD LUCK to everyone this morning, can’t wait to see the costumes!!

Good luck on your race! You’ll rock it in an awesome costume! I love that shirt!

Good Luck at your half this morning!!! Cant wait to see your creative costumes!

I ran the Monster Dash 5k this morning. It was a chilly start, but the sun came out and it is going to be gorgeous today! I am pretty pumped about my finish time, which means it will be a great day!!

I usually sleep ok the night before any big event… but not so much the few days leading up to it. I wake up at 3 or 4 AM all the time, with a million thoughts racing through my brain. Stupid Type A personality… haha

I use 7 Layer Bars as fuel for long trail runs. They are sooooooooooo yummy! My favorite dessert food of all time!

Costumes and 13.1 miles – let the fun begin! I’m afraid the closest I get to wear a costume of any kind is the donning of a Santa Clause hat for the upcoming 2011 Holiday Half, here in Pomona, CA. (I need every advantage I can get, so I opted to ixnay-onyay the whole St. Nick attire… I know – such a party-pooper!)

I have a very vivid recollection of the last time I fell; it was a Monday evening in January 2005, around 8:30 at night, I was only a quarter mile from my home and I didn’t see the small pine cones on the street… how’s THAT for having an event burned into your memory! It was a lasting injury to my left knee. I guess you could say I’m a paranoid runner when it comes to tripping/falling during runs – and a pine cone hater (except when my daughter calls them “pretty” – then… well, y’know… I just respond with an enthusiastic, “mmhhhm” and nod in quiet agreement).

When I’m not eating ice cream for dessert, it’s usually slices of banana with Quaker Natural Granola Apple Cranberry Almond and milk …oh c’mon! That’s an awesome dessert! I know, you don’t have to say it…

Sleeping well the night before a race. That’s an oxymoron, right? An oxymoron/paradox??

Awesome race shirt, by the way!

Those shirts are GREAT. 7 layer bars….OMG, my fave. My fam usually only makes them around Christmas. It’s for the best otherwise none of my pants would fit. :)

Have fun at the race!!! Can’t wait to see costume pics!

I’ve stumbled and had some close calls, but I’ve never actually gone down on a run. I’m nervous about this very thing next weekend though! I’ve never run on a trail in my life, and I have a 10K trail race next Saturday. I just know I’m gonna eat dirt on that one.

I always have weird dreams right before a race. One of them being where I wake up late. I did not have dessert last night, I had it after my 13 miler this morning. Salted Caramel Mocha goodness from 4Bux. I cannot wait to see your costumes!!!!

i want to see your costume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7 layer bars are THE best! Love them!

I usually sleep so hard before a race that I can’t wake up in the morning. I’m a disaster, but at least I’m well rested as soon as I’m actually awake.

Good luck at your race! You guys are going to have so much fun!

Reply

I hope your race went well! I’m excited to hear about it! And of course, FINALLY see what your costumes were!

I never sleep well before a race, even a 5k gets me all worked up still. It’s crazy!

i usually have a similar dream and wake up around 3 but can go back to sleep…and wake up to the first of 15 alarms that I set.

i trip all the time but never fall I just do some awesome/ridiculous trip and catch myself thing. HAVE FUN running today!
