We are members of another gym, my watermelon running outfit and I need to change my running form.

I decided with my latest watermelon eating obsession that I should dress the part (the black shorts represent the seeds even though I like seedless watermelon better).

IMG 9493

Today’s run was an easy run for 35 minutes…. that is weird to me.  It just feels strange to stop at anything other than X.00 but I did it today because that is what was on the schedule.

I got home long before Brooke woke up so I had plenty of time for the necessities of life:  watching the previous day’s episode of Ellen while stretching and doing 16 minute abs (aka 8 minute abs twice).   A girl I went to high school with was ON The Ellen show dancing (I knew her… I doubt she knew me ha).

A great way to spend the early morning hours if you ask me.

Once Brooke woke up we had our usual toast together for breakfast and on my toast I had my new combination of laughing cow cheese and jam.  Incredible.

DSC 3111

After that I got to talk to my coach for a while and we went over everything from future workouts to my running form.  Let’s just say that I am the poster child for not so great running form.  Hopefully by switching things up (HERE is a post with a bunch of different articles and pictures about running form) I can prevent getting injured every 2 seconds like I normally do and get a lot faster.

Add another gym to the list of where I teach spin.  I won’t start at the Y until the end of the summer because Billy’s work hours are C.R.A.Z.Y. so he won’t be home much to babysit but I am stoked about this gym and the fact that Brooke and I can start going to all the baby/mom classes together now.

Brooke is thrilled about it.

Lunch was a bunch of leftovers all on one plate.  The variety was awesome.

Anyone participating in the Runner’s World Streak this year?  So far I have done 2 days of the running streak.

For me personally summer is kind of easy for me to keep running and not skip workouts…. now winter… that is another story.

————————————————————

Longest running streak you have done?  Are you doing the 2013 Runner’s World streak?

Do you ever run just for time…not a certain mileage?

Anyone go to the YMCA?!?

Random question of the day:  When you are cooking or baking do you clean as you go or wait until you are all done baking/cooking to clean?

I’m doing the RW Running Streak! Almost completed it last year when I was 7 months pregnant…hoping for better results this year, haha ;-)

Wow!! You are amazing!!! That is so awesome girl and you will totally get it this year!

Reply

I didn’t know you teach spin classes! Awesome!! I am getting certified on Sunday to teach as well. So excited about it!

Reply

You will love teaching spin, it is the best! Good luck!

I did a run streak last year ran about 28days and ended up getting major shin splints. But I ran more than a mile a day.

Reply

The longest running streak I’ve done is a few months but I’m realizing I need a day off at least every two weeks to stay healthy and keep my legs fresh. I learned to swim at the YMCA but now I don’t belong to a gym- I just do the drop in rates for zumba. I like your running outfit. The brighter and more obnoxious, the better.

I love your watermelon outfit! haha, so cute!

I try to clean as I go when I am cooking/baking because there is nothing worse than a sink/counter full of dishes once you are done the meal. I always run for mileage, not time. I should try to run for time instead though, same thing I guess.

Hope you’re having a great day!

Reply

I run for time especially when I’ve not been keeping up with my workouts, or if I truly only have time for a 30 min run before I have to be somewhere else. We used to belong to a YMCA, but my kids were older at the time so not sure about mom/baby classes. It depends on how much cooking/baking I have to do for when I clean up. If I have a lot (like for Christmas or Thanksgiving) I’ll clean as I go along.

Reply

Totally forgot about the RW Running streak – as long as my injuries stay at bay I can do it! I usually always run for mileage but there are times when I take my son to the gym that I’ll only run for time because I have about 50min total to run and do a few weights before I have to snag him from the kids room.

When I bake, I clean as I go and you can’t really tell I made anything. When my husband bakes? That’s an entirely different story and it looks like the kitchen exploded!

Reply

The YMCA is an awesome gym!! That’s my go-to when I’m home. Are you still teaching at Google and the other gym as well??? Wow- that’s a lof of spinning! Good for you!!

Reply

I am not very good at running streaks, my body can’t quite handle more than a few days at a time. I am running for time and not mileage now that I’m not doing any races anytime soon and it is very strange not to end in a full mile! For baking and cooking I always have to clean as I go… normally I’m not a neat freak type person but when I’m baking I go a little crazy making sure everything is clean right away

Reply

I’m definitely a clean as I go cooker/baker. I go nuts when the kitchen is a mess.

That’s awesome that you have another teaching gig!!

I decided last year that I probably shouldn’t do run streaks. I do a lot better with a day of rest every week!

Reply

I love the YMCA! Once I graduate I hope to have more time to teach. The people that work there now call me the Spin girl because I’m always there haha! I definitely agree with you — if this running streak was happening in the winter, it would be a struggle!

Reply

congrats on the new spin job! sweet watermelon outfit, I think you should be a different fruit for each run this week.
Brooke is really starring down your toast– did she convince you to give her some?!

Reply

In high school I think I went three years or so without taking a test day. Not the healthiest thing to do! But in college we never ran for miles we always had a certain minute range we stayed between!

Reply

My longest running streak is probably about 5 days in a row. I can’t go much more, because my legs start to wear down. I like giving myself a rest day in between running to do core exercises or just take a break. I ran Fri-Mon (4 days) and today I took a day off.

When I bake, I like to clean up before I eat the cookies. That’s all that matters. I feel like I can enjoy them more. :)

Reply

I am doing the running streak too! It will probably be my longest streak to date. I always clean the kitchen as I go. I go nuts when cooking in a messy kitchen. This weekend I ran twice for time, not distance, and it was actually awesome. I may start working timed runs into my schedule.

Reply

I love the Y! It”s a great place to work! Highly recommend it :)

Reply

After being plagued with injuries over the past four years, I’m going through the process of changing my running form. It’s requiring a lot of patience and focused strength work (feet, glutes, core). I have a lot of faith in my PT, though, and everything I’ve read/seen backs him up. He’s convinced me it’ll pay off in the long run (pun intended), and I’ll be able to run for the rest of my life. So I figure if a couple months invested now means I won’t be taking off months and months for injuries down the road, I’m totally in! I wish you well withthe process!

Reply

I clean as I go. Then there’s not as much to do after! It’s awesome.

My training schedule has me doing speed workouts for time instead of distance. It’s nice to change the focus.

Is the frozen TV frame set on the girl you knew from high school? Is that Allison Holker from So You Think You Can Dance?? If so, she is my favorite and I am obsessed with that show!!!

I’m a member at the YMCA and I do a little Y-hopping to 3-4 different locations. My favorite is our downtown Y because they have a cafe inside that serves Starbucks and makes fresh juices & smoothies! Every gym should have that cafe!

Reply

I’m a member of the YMCA. It’s a great gym to be a member of, for people with kids. They are always offering fun kid activities.

Reply

I am also doing the RW Running Streak!! It’s a great addition to my everyday routine too!! Being almost 5 months preggo, I now have to stop and pee every other mile, so short and sweet is awesome!! When I cook and bake, I tend to clean only if I spill (which can be often) but usually save it for the end :) Totally going to try your breakfast today!!

Reply

Hey Janae, I have a question, besides years of experience how did you become a spin instructor? Thanks!

Reply

I’m doing the streak, too! The longest streak I’ve had is 9 days but I wasn’t trying to go on any sort of streak. It just happened. I try to clean as I go when I am cooking or baking. A messy home makes me angry and it freaks me out when I look around the kitchen and see a disaster zone.

Reply

No clue what my longest running streak was- I get injured easily so won’t be doing the summer streak.

I never run for mileage- always time, not sure why- I think it’s cause in high school our coach always had us run for time on our long runs and it stuck with me I guess.

Love your outfit!

Reply

i used to run for time… until i got a garmin and started training for marathons. then things got serious!! sometimes i still run for time just to give myself a break

Reply

So fun that you get to teach at another gym–the perks of teaching are super fab, for sure :)

I clean as I go/bake. Or else I’d go cray cray!

My longest running streak? hmmmm 2 days?? hah. my body does not bode well with back to back running days-and I’m cool with that.

Is it too late to start!? I’m a day late! Yikes! Best get movin’…

I think the longest streak I’ve done is maybe two weeks, but I wasn’t trying to do that, it just ended up that way.

I guess I’m weird–when I run on the treadmill I always run for time (usually 60 mins) and when I run outside it’s always distance.

I’m a total clean as I go baker/cooker. This is one of my many type A personality traits. And another reason why I don’t like my husband cooking that much, he just leaves such a big mess!! Lol.

Congrats on the Y, I’ve been thinking about joining the local one lately.

Is that Cat Deeley on the Ellen picture? I know NOTHING these days!

Reply

I love the watermelon outfit!! :) I had my first watermelon of the season yesterday, and then ate a bunch more today (of course) and it was heavenly. I am definitely up to that running challenge!

xo

Reply

My longest streak is probably 3 days. I know, right? Go me. Running back to back is not for this body.

I clean as I go. And I am very adamant about doing that. I do not like a messy kitchen or dishes in the sink. Like ever.

What we REALLY need to talk about is how you need to start running on your treadmill just so that you will be all caught up on The Bachelorette because THIS is subject info that we NEED to discuss ;)

Reply

I run for time a lot! I will set out for 30 mins, 45 mins, etc rather than a certain mileage. Other days I like picking a number. I guess I like changing it up.

My longest streak was probably too long to count. I went through a really obsessive time where I had to run every day. Including running through lots of injuries…..not good! I am happy to say that I take at least 2 rest days a week now. My days of running streaks are over!

Reply

My track/XC coach’s workout philosophy is ingrained in the idea that muscle memory is a big part of running. From pre-season for indoor track (November) to the end of outdoor track (beginning of May) I really don’t think there was a day I didn’t run at least a mile. Now that cross country training is in full swing, I foresee another big run streak in my future!

Reply

I’ve never done a running streak. I was going to do the Runner’s World Streak, but I really need rest days; my joints can’t take running on a road every day, and I don’t own a treadmill or belong to a gym

I run for time just because of my training plan.

I don’t go to the YMCA, but I wish I did!

I generally clean up after I’m done (or make my mom do that)

Reply

I love to bake. It’s kind of my jam and I clean up as I go if I can.

And I’ve never heard of this runner’s streak. Must subscribe to Runner’s World stat. Who am I?!

Reply

My sis teaches a group x class (kickboxing) at the Y. I think she likes it, but she does wish the pay was better.

Reply

This is the first streak I’m participating it. I’m using it to get back on track so that when marathon training begins July 7, I’m all set to go.

Reply

I used to run on time only, but I haven’t done that since ~2010 when garmin entered my life. Doing it again would feel very very strange.

I did the first RWRunStreak when they did it between Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2011. I made it all the way to 12/23 which was super impressive, I thought, because it meant I actually ran during finals! I’m going to give this one a shot and see how long I last. Ill definitely be running this weekend bc I made a last minute decision to do a sprint triathlon this weekend! My first one….this may not have been the best idea I’ve ever had……

Reply

Doing the running streak too. It’s weird how different you can feel running on different days. Yesterday I did four miles and felt great. Today I did one mile just to get it in and it was miserable! Maybe it was the humidity or running after work but I did NOT enjoy it.

Reply

I clean as I go when I bake and cook. I am total OCD about stuff being clean and can’t stand to look at the mess. :-)

Reply

Longest running streak: a few years.

Usually I run for mileage as I’m training for a race. If not, I just go for time.

I clean as I cook-much easier and makes cleanup a lot easier!!

Reply

I’m doing the streak! Haven’t done today’s yet, but will in a few minutes.

Reply

Love the watermelon outfit. All of those colors are so bright and fun! And Ellen is the perfect way to start off a morning, if you ask me. I love that woman to death.

I’ve heard of the RW streak, but I don’t know if I could do it without getting injuries! At some point, I’d definitely like to try it.

Reply

Work did thanksgiving to New Years one mile challenge. It was fun!
I run for time quite often. Especially if I am fitting it into a window……50 minutes before we leave somewhere is plenty of time for 45 minute run and 5 minutes to get ready. (I know you know the drill)

Reply

Is it wrong that your watermelon outfit makes me all sorts of hungry? I have the biggest addiction to watermelon and I’m stoked that it’s finally back in stores so I can go back to eating half a day  And I’m definitely a clean-as-you-go kind of girl. I hate being left with a big mess, so I try to do the dishes as I go.

Reply

I love the watermelon outfit!

I usually tidy as I go when cooking. I’m a bit OCD. Mess freaks me out! Although my husband is the dishwasher, so I often just leave a neat pile of dishes for him to clean. Washing up is the worst job ever!

Reply

Ok is it horrible that I went and watched that coaching video? haha…learned a lot! your coach is great at analyzing!

Reply

That is so awesome!!!! He really is so smart and helpful!

Reply

Ahhh! I go to my local Y and take spin classes there all the time, just got out of one actually! I wish i could take one of your spin classes!!!

Reply

I used to work at the YMCA and loved it! I love how they have everything in one place. I don’t have a family yet but I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ll belong when I do! Congrats on the new spin job!

And I always wait until the end of cooking/baking because I am actually the messiest ever! I spill everything everywhere everytime! No point in cleaning up until I’m done creating ginormous messes ;)

Reply

Yay running streakers! Day 2 felt so much better than Day 1 for me. Hopefully they will keep getting better as they go on :-)

Reply

Congrats on the new spin job, that’s awesome, I’ve been a member of the Y since I was 15! I really don’t think it would be too good of an idea for me to try for a running streak. I’ll happily take my rest days :)

Reply

Running at least a mile everyday seems easy, but I know lazy me would have issues with it after a few weeks. I run about 3 days a week and focus on the mileage. I used to go by time, but with my shnazy GPS watch, I’m all about the extra details.

Reply

I will try to do the streak but I might have to skip a few days. I don’t know if summer camp will let me run during the week!

Reply

Longest running streak you have done? Are you doing the 2013 Runner’s World streak?

I’m doing the running streak…2 miles so far, haha

Do you ever run just for time…not a certain mileage?

No I would feel weird doing that…I might try it though just to switch things up

Anyone go to the YMCA?!?

I’ve been very tempted to join lately but not sure about spending the money on a gym membership right now

Random question of the day: When you are cooking or baking do you clean as you go or wait until you are all done baking/cooking to clean?

I try to clean as I go….it means less to clean at the end of the meal when the last thing I want to do is clean!

Reply

I’ve never done a running streak because I usually take 1-2 rest days from running but this one looks fun! I think I will do it but just take 1-2 days a week where I only run 1 mile to stay injury free.

I recently got a stride analysis from a running coach and realized my form could use some major improvement too :)

Reply

i so want to do the run streak. . . though i have to see what my PT says about my hip this thursday. finally got an appointment. i want to run!!!!

Baby/Mom classes?! I feel like this could be a magical development for me in another month or two. Tell me more, please!

There is a new aquatic center opening and it’s part of the Y. Can’t wait to get our membership! We were members at the Y in Maryland, and we loved it.

I do a lot of my long runs for time vs. distance.

Reply

I love my Y, but I’ll have to take a break while school is out. The Y is near the school I work at… but that’s an hour from home!

I don’t clean up after myself in the kitchen until the next day. I really hate washing dishes!

Reply

I’ve used training plans where you run by time. It’s a nice change for a training plan and I do totally understand the theory behind running for time as opposed to distance. It’s nice to not stress your body if your having an off day and really not feeling like you can’t run “x” miles to just run by time not distance.
Usually I clean as I go when cooking or baking.
If you think your running form is bad you should see mine!!!!!

Reply

I actually just joined the YMCA – so far, I like it! The one here is small, so classes are pretty limited but I’m looking forward to trying a few of them out!

Even if it was just a mile a day, I wouldn’t be able to do a running streak for that long – my legs would hate me!

Reply

I love the watermelon outfit. Really probably too much.

My longest streak was 25 days and I was pretty proud of myself. Now I read some of the comments and I feel like a tool. Oh well.

Reply

I am so bummed about the streak. My knee is just done with running. I can racewalk 11 min miles, harder for me then running a 9 min mile but 5 min of running makes my knee hurt. Ugh! I need to get it looked at but it is classic runners knee. So I am trying to take a month off and build up strength. I just want to run! I think it may not happen, I guess I am just a racewalker… i do timed workouts all the time.
I clean up as I go. As for the YMCA. I was a memeber for many, many years and then it moved across town. I was on the masters swim team which met at 5 am. 2 kiddos at home and 20 min to get there, um could not do it anymore! I havr a student in a montesorri class at a Y. When I go there ( am an early intvention teacher) I always wonder if they would really notice if I slipped into one of the rooms and worked out!

Reply

I’m not streaking. In fact (to be a bummer and totally honest), the whole streak thing kinda annoys me. It might be fun and motivating, but it’s not exactly safe, especially for people who haven’t been running much. Also, it totally discourages rest days.

I have to clean up as I go! Otherwise the mess makes me crazy, AND there’s so much work to be done once the food is made! [Usually, I just want to be scarfing the food!]

Reply

we just moved into a new house (whole new location) so we checked out the Y here…
I felt like I was in a high school gym so we decided to not join. I just couldn’t do it with 16-20 year olds all around me.

Reply

I’m doing the streak! I wasn’t sure about it because of rest days and all but then I figured it’s only one mile. And it was the only thing that motivated me to go to the gym today. I am a member of the YMCA and I love it.

Reply

My girls and I have been members of the Y for years. Love that it is so family-friendly there!

Random question of the day: When you are cooking or baking do you clean as you go or wait until you are all done baking/cooking to clean? I clean as much as possible as I go.

Reply

A lot of times I just run for a certain amount of time when I’m doing a long run. When training for ultra running events, it’s more important to train for time on your feet rather than a certain number of miles.

Reply

I’ve never done time, haha I’m OCD on hitting certain mileage (either .00 or .50) and where did you get this 8 min ab video? I tried to find where you originally posted it but I couldn’t…

I always clean as I go; my husband not so much.

Reply

I always run for mileage, I don’t know why but that just makes me feel more accomplished!

So funny that you asked that random question about cleaning up while baking. I was just talking to a friend about that. When I cook dinner or a meal, I seem to clean up as I go, whereas when I bake a yummy dessert I save it all for the end. Usually because the cleanup involves licking batter/dough off of every utensil :)

Reply

Yay for your new spin class! I used to work at the local YMCA.

I try to clean up as I go along when I cook, but it doesn’t always work out that way…

The running streak looks fun! But I didn’t run yesterday so I guess I kind of blew it already :P I think my running streak is maybe three days. Hahaha I am a fan of rest days :D

I loooove to clean as I am baking. It’s always my goal to be completely cleaned up before my baked goods come out of the oven! I hate cleaning so much that I want it to be done ASAP!!

When I’m cooking/baking…I try to clean as I go, but if it gets really bad/messy, my plan changes. I call my husband in to taste-test/try things, then hope that he sees the mess and feels bad enough to lend a hand. He’s awesome, and almost always does! :)

This almost 40 yr. old runner cannot handle any sort of streak…I run 4 days a week and cross-train the rest. Anymore than 4 and I become an injured, gimpy mess!

Yes, we are Y members and love it! My girls have done so many different classes there, and I love our spin instructors. I’ve been meaning to try more of the group exercise classes since there are so many to choose from but so far my spin addiction trumps all my other cross-training desires :)

Brooke looks so much like Billy in that last photo!! Love your watermelon outfit! I recently saw some PRO compression socks that are that same color combo; A great look for summer!! A girl from my church was on Ellen one time and was featured as one of those people who have the most embarrassing photos from her childhood. It was not an attractive photo but it got her on the Ellen show! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I just want to thank you for bringing 8 minute Abs and in turn 8 minute arms into my life. I was laughing so hard when he rationalized an exercise by saying “this is why women wear big shoulder pads!” that I completely forgot my arms were killing me!

And then there’s that outfit.

And the OCD person in me requires that I stop at x.00 otherwise I have to run the next mile.

I usually run more for the mileage which probably isn’t a good thing because I try to get there faster…whoops!

When I bake I usually clean as I go..I made these amazing Banana Oatmeal protein muffins yesterday and I cleaned the entire time I was mixing together the ingredients :)

I taught yoga at our local Y for 5 years – it’s a great place, overall, to work. The kids stuff they have (like free childwatch) is so much better than a regular gym. They are a bit pricier but if you have a big family – it’s a great value. Anyway, I think you’ll love it!

We use the local Y as our gym, and I kinda love it. It just feels so community-centric, with all the generations represented. It’s sorta silly, but it gives me warm fuzzies. :-)

I work at two Ys this summer break and I also work at Gap kids and babyGap. At the Y I teach swim lessons and then help with summer camp. I was alittle nervous about it at first since I’m a 20-year old telling parents what to do with their kids but its really a lot of fun.
