Not too old. An ENGAGEMENT!! +Weekending.

(long-sleeve, shoes)
My Friday run was a good one. Well, the whole week was a good training week, with 6 x 800s and a 4-mile tempo. I think part of the reason I had a good week of training is that I’ve been doing this thing where I remind myself I’m not too old to run fast. For some reason, the last few months, I’ve been feeling like I’m too old to go after speed again, but in reality, our bodies listen to whatever our minds tell them. The more I tell myself that age is just a number and that I can keep doing what I love for as long as I want, the more my body will listen. While more recovery, strength training, sleep, and yoga have become more important than ever… I’m excited about my new mindset.

It was pretty fitting that I opened up the book Skye and I are reading and saw this…

When you get home and need to do strength work, but you are cold, you can do a chest-and-back workout on the CGX app with a blanket on.

I know when I get the heart-shaped sweat on my tank, I’m working hard ;). Saturday was with Andrew. 10 miles @ 9:33 pace and about 1600 ft of climbing.

Chasing him on the trails is one of my favorite things to do.

After Saturday chores, we went to Rockwell with some family. Now that I’ve tried their Biscoff, I will never get anything else there.

It’s spring break in Utah and we are staying here and planning to spend as much time outside as possible.

It’s so beautiful here right now.

Andrew and I went out for a date. When Beck saw Andrew he asked why he was going to church;). It’s not often he has a collared shirt on.

Skye and I got in a lot of reading together.

We had the family over for Easter dinner! My niece had her tonsils out so we had a soup bar and made this and this soup to give her some softer options.

And an angel food cake, whipped cream, strawberry mix for dinner.

Most importantly, my nephew got engaged! He’s been on the blog since he was younger than Skye and so I was very excited to tell you guys. She is the absolute greatest. I love every minute I get with her.

Ah! Congrats to your nephew!
I had a weekend of nieces and nephews too. It’s so rude how they keep getting older.
Other weekend highlight: waking up at 5am to watch Tadej win a monument and break more records. And now I want to go to Belgium next year to spectate this race.
Hope it’s a great spring break!Kate DiCamillo is a fave in our house! The Magician’s Elephant is my actual favorite. I read it as an adult and was so moved. She’s the best! You should let Skye do a read-a-thon to fundraise for Alaska!!

Marianne, that is BRILLIANT! She would love that so much. Off to grab the Magician’s Elephant, thank you and have a beautiful day!

MORE RECORDS?! How does he do it? Grab me a ticket for belgium and I’ll pay you back so I can come with you. Thanks friend, so glad you had time with your nieces and nephews!
The kids have today off then back to school.
Highlights from weekend was we went to the movies as a family then had an enormous Easter dinner. 20 ppl with 5 teens. We officially have no more littles even in the extended fam, at least until our nieces and nephews start having kids but that is a ways off.
Creature of habit, I have my routes planned in my head.
And best part of my day honestly is when I know Im officially done everything for the day, can put on my pj’s and relax under a blanket
oh and congrats to your nephew!! Very exciting

Your Easter sounds like it was the best! I’m so happy for you all. ENJOY the rest of your day, that is such a good feeling. Thanks, Valene!
Congrats to the nephew and fiancé.
So exciting!!
Thank you, Erica! We cannot wait for the wedding!
I just read The One and Only Ivan. It was a sweet story. And am a Washington native so I remember hearing about the gorilla at the mall in Tacoma.

Oh no way! I just want to go and rescue him!
I usually have my usual routes that I run around town. I run early between 5:00 am and 5:30 most times, so I try to stick to my routes which have better lighting than other unknown places.

That is the perfect way to plan your runs, the more lighting the better!
Congratulations to your nephew! So exciting!
I mostly have a route planned for my run before heading out. But lately, I end up switching things up, just based on feel. That’s been kind of fun. Utah is looking pretty. I use to love seeing all of the tulips blooming in Chicago this time of year, when our son was out there for college. Sooo pretty.
Enjoy spring break this week!
We couldn’t be happier for them! That is really fun to go along with the run based on feel! Oh, I bet this time of year in Chicago is amazing. Thank you friend, have a beautiful day!
We are in spring break and visiting Utah! Fun to explore and try all the new (to us) food places!

Oh my goodness, ENJOY! You’ll have to let me know your favorites! Have a beautiful day, Jen!
Congratulations to your nephew! How exciting!
You are never too old to run fast. I keep relearning, age is just a number. For most things, you are never too old!
I usually know what route I am going to run, especially weekdays. I prefer to stay where there are streetlights;-)
Date night was my favorite part of the weekend. It keeps getting better and better:-) I’m still terrified of getting my heart broken, but for once I’m not letting that get in the way.
Have a fabulous Monday, Janae! Enjoy the spring break!
Ok, jk Kate D did not write about Ivan, but…my other suggestions still stand. Hahahaha
Congratulations to your nephew! So exciting.
It was spring break here last week, but definitely not feeling like spring yet. I went for a run at 5am this morning and with windchill, it was 15 degrees. Oh well, it’ll make spring feel even better once it gets here.
Since I usually run early AM, I stick to two routes, so if something were to happen, my husband would have an idea of where to find me. The one route may extend for many, many miles, but still… same route. If he’s not home, I’m in the basement on the treadmill haha
My favorite part of the day is when my kids wake up, especially on a non-school day. There is something about their jammies, bedhead and sleepy eyes, combined with their excitement of a new day that just warms my heart. Can you tell I’m addicted to my kids? 🙂
Congratulations to your nephew and his fiance! How exciting!!
We just finished Spring Break and it’s back to work now. Spring Break should be two weeks in my opinion.
Janae, congratulations on your engagement and a fantastic week of training! It’s amazing how mindset impacts performance. Similar to strategizing in a game of block blast, reminding ourselves we’re not too old unlocks potential. Focusing on recovery, strength, and mindset is key. Keep crushing those runs and embracing the joy of movement! Age is just a number, especially when you’re determined to excel.

welcome!
