Tangents + My Current Obsession to Understand…

(Shorts, top, shoes)

When you finish your run, your friends notice that your shorts are on inside out… I wish I could blame it on Daylight Savings, but I swear I wear my clothes inside out 30% of the time. The worst was when a man on an elevator in California let me know that my shorts were on inside out, and they were the shorts that had a liner in them. The liner was on the outside, hahaha… I do not know how I made this mistake.

Welcome to that time of year when I know we will swim often soon, and my anxiety about kids and pools shoots through the roof.   He’s starting to catch on:

We bought tickets to an event (I even washed my hair) and drove 30 minutes with the kids to go to it… When we arrived, they let us know we were a week early, haha.

Beretta was thrilled with our change in plans;)

Now for the tangents of today:

*Andrew and I watched Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones on Netflix, which made me obsessed with understanding centenarians and their daily behaviors.  There is one in particular that I find very interesting—>  ‘Studies correlate the ability to sit and rise from the floor without support with a longer life expectancy.  Sitting on the floor also develops musculoskeletal fitness.”  (Source)

I’m finding this habit easy to incorporate into my life, so I’m squatting and sitting on the ground much more often.  It’s easy for me to think, ‘Oh, I ran today; I don’t need to move much the rest of the day,’ but in reality, I want to move often throughout the day, and getting up from the ground is a great way to do it (the kids love me being on the ground more, too).

*The unexpected cheddar cheese spread is heaven.

*Have you been following the lululemon Further project?  This screenshot below is from last night, but these incredible women have been doing a 2.56-mile loop for 6 days.  Can you even believe these numbers?  The rule of this 6-day ultramarathon is to go as far as possible, and I am so impressed by them all.

And I love the why behind this program.  With each lap, the women are tracked and recorded to get a better understanding of women!

*I was listening to a mom-fail podcast episode from the Bad Broadcast that reminded me of one of mine…. After covid in 2021, I lost my sense of smell completely, which was kind of nice with four young kids ha but also so hard with a little in diapers.  I never knew when he needed a new diaper, and people would have to let me know, or I had to check him a million times a day.  I still feel like I only have about 25% of my usual sense of smell.

*My friend is using the liquid energy from GU for her marathon training and says it is so easy to take, in case anyone is looking for something new!

*When you are cold but want to get in your pilates class before showering:

Tangent- my half marathon was Saturday and I did not plan for post-race training. It feels so weird winging it this week without a plan to follow!

That cheese spread looks good! TJs had such good cheese options- I like goat cheese with honey on bread or crackers.

CONGRATULATIONS on your half this last Saturday! Oh the post-race blues… I am feeling this right now too. It’s weird to go from every mile planned to whatever we want. TJs goat cheese is especially good. I hope you have a wonderful day, Mariah!

I don’t know which is funnier: a week early or blanket Pilates. HA
Best bread topper: softened butter with a pinch of salt. If that’s not tasty then one needs better bread!
Tangent, today I am saying goodbye to my money but hello to my youth with getting braces 2.0. My bottom teeth decided to make 90 degree turns in the past year. I love when I call the orthodontist office. They ask who I am calling for. Every time I tell them “myself” they apologize and say “oh of course, sorry!” Off to hang out with 8 year olds because that’s how young kiddies are these day with braces!

Bahaha I am just struggling with my brain lately! Truly, the best bread topper there is. Goodbye Molly’s money! But so excited for you. Hopefully you get some stickers and prizes haha. I still wear my retainer every night because if I don’t, my front tooth starts making that turn too. I am positive my kids are behind on braces too because you are so right about them all starting at 8. So fun!

I am glad I am not the only one that puts on clothes inside haha. I also tend to put on my lululemon shorts and tights backwards?! Like how do I not realize it until after a run?!

Tangent: I am ready for the pollen to be gone here in Floria! My allergies are so bad this year and it makes running TERRIBLE. I come home red eyed and swollen faced!

Loving the Lululemon Further. I am excited to see all the data that is collected!

Definitely not alone. Hahah I’ve definitely put mine on backwards too, maybe it’s just because they feel so good no matter how you wear them that makes us not realize. Wait. You are already dealing with allergies. Elizabeth, I am so so sorry. I am not looking forward to this part of the year here. Hope you find a good medication to help soon. Right? I love how they are studying these incredible women. Have a beautiful day, Elizabeth.

Ha ha… Shorts on inside out. I haven’t done that, but I have worn my sports bra inside out many times, ha ha.
I love the Pilates classes on the Peloton app! I do that 3 times a week usually.
My tangent for today… I’m finally getting my hair done!! It’s been way too long.
A favorite spread over here lately has been garlic aoli. It is so good on sandwiches.
Off for a run in the dark again, but happy to be able to watch the sun rise.
Have a great day Janae

Haha, yep, I’ve definitely done that with my sports bra, too. 3 times a week is so awesome, Wendy! Hair day is the best day, enjoy. I hope the sunrise was extra beautiful this morning. Thanks Wendy!

Glad to know I am not the only one anxious with kids and pools.. my 2 older kids are going to day camp most of the summer where they will be at the pool multiple times a week, and I am nervous! Even though they are doing well with swimming lessons, I am going to buy bright neon swimsuits!
I sit on the floor ALWAYS, and if I lived all by myself, I would get rid of all the furniture. I think it’s one of the reasons I have bounced back pretty well from three c-sections. That said, I work in an office 3x a week, and definitely sit WAY too much & for way too long while I am there. I should probably learn to stand more too!
Fave bread spread: my family likes the garlic spread from Trader Joes. With / without bruschetta added on top. So good!
Have a great day!

So. Much. Anxiety. That is brilliant to buy bright neon swimsuits. Your kids are going to do amazing but I’m always here if you need to chat. Looks like you are going to live forever, I think that is so great! And 3 c-sections, you are super mom! I will grab the garlic spread next time I am there, thank you and I hope you do too, Katie.

I wore my joggers inside out for an entire grocery shopping outing before my husband told me at home! Not sure how I didn’t notice, since they have pockets (??)

I would love to do my yoga poses and post-run PT before the shower but it’s so hard in winter! I’m usually looking for food and warmth immediately.

I LOVE your jacket in the pic with Andrew. Where is it from?

Have you tried the Trader Joe’s (frozen) Kimbap? It’s SO GOOD. They cannot keep it in stock here for more than an hour and have limited it to 2 pkgs per shopper!

Have a great day, Janae!

Annemarie, I have never had Kimbap before so I had to google it and now I am going to show up when they open to get my own. YUM! Bahaha thank you for sharing about the joggers. Sometimes we are just too busy to waste time thinking about putting our clothes on correctly. Here is the link, I love it so much but for some reason it was half the price in spain than it is online: https://shopstyle.it/l/b8v9O
I wish it was easier to do those poses in the shower haha. Thank you friend, you too!

I started doing the 60-min full body strength classes on the Peloton app as part of a challenge with a friend. Our original goal was one a week in 2024; I’m up to three a week and holy cow, I feel SO strong on the run!!! All my little aches and pains have disappeared. The 60 min classes have a lot of mobility and plyometrics focus, which I know I need to do to be a better runner but just…never do? Anyway, highly highly recommend them!! I actually think they are way more effective than the strength for runners classes.

Reply

60 min full body strength classes, WOW. And now you do three a week, I bet you feel so much stronger on your runs and no more niggles! You have me wanting to try it out, send me your favorite one. Have a beautiful day, Rachael!

That TJ’s spread is the best. Try it on apple slices!
