Our Super Bowl + 12 + Things.

(Vest, shirt, pants, shoes)

The excitement for my marathon hit me like a wave yesterday.  I was basically skipping on my run because I was so excited.  9 miles @ 8:28 average.

Beretta turned 12 yesterday!  She was spoiled all day long.

Day #2 of CrossFit meant Andrew especially needed the hot tub.

IMG 2412

I’m not sure we are ever going to let him go to preschool (kidding but really).

IMG 2414

They have started playing tackle football in the front yard in preparation for the Super Bowl.

IMG 2416

My nephew has come up with a brilliant business model.  He comes to you for haircuts.

IMG 2418

I could get everything done around the house while he cut their hair.

IMG 2419

Now for some more bullet points.

*Andrew’s co-worker gave us sourdough starter.  I am so excited… now to figure out the next step.

IMG 2371

*I thought I got a picture of her looking at the camera, but I didn’t;). Brooke had her first Band performance, and she is mastering the trumpet.  I was so proud watching her.

IMG 2387

*I love it when kids leave notes around the house for us.  I cherish getting a little peek into their brains on paper.

IMG 2409

*I realized yesterday that for the first marathon training cycle in a very, very long time—>  I do not have hamstring issues.  I swear I have been converted to flat speedwork and the track.

IMG 2181

*How do we think these two will do with the 8-hour time difference ahead for us…

IMG 2376

*The other day, we were watching Shark Tank and Mark Cuban said, “If you can’t perform mentally, you can’t perform physically.”  The taper is always the best time to sharpen the tools in our mental toolboxes for race day.  Fitness isn’t gained during the taper, but that doesn’t mean we can’t absorb all of the mental fitness during this time.

*I am now counting down the hours until the trials and thought this was a great clip for a review of the top contenders.  They will be doing an 8-mile loop and I am so interested to see how everyone does on this course and with the humidity.

THIS IS OUR SUPER BOWL.

Is there something in your training that does not work with your body?

Shark Tank fans?  Favorite shark?  Have you ever bought something you saw on Shark Tank?

Dog owners… how old is your dog?

More excited to watch the Olympic Marathon Trials or the Super Bowl?

Aw, congratulations to Brooke! We are very into trumpet around here so I’m excited to see her playing it.
Yes, i’m probably more excited for the marathon trials than the Super Bowl- and I think I like the trials better than the actual Olympics, because I get to see all my favorite runners in one race.
Glad your hamstring is feeling so good- I’m getting excited for your race!

No way! I’ll have to tell her:). I have to agree with you on the trials > Olympics. This is just a huge deal! I’m heartbroken about Molly, though. Thank you, Jenny! Hope you have a beautiful Thursday!

Aw, Happy Birthday, Beretta! Our dog turned 13 in July and we definitely made the day all about her favorite things! Definitely excited to hear about the trials (won’t be watching due to work)! Also, I didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday, but I love a good fitness watch review, so thanks for sharing your thoughts on your new Garmin 265s! Happy Thursday, Janae!

13 going on 14! I hope you have a great day at work and can catch the highlights after. Oh that makes me so happy! Thanks, Emily!

Oh come onnnn, Olympic Trials > Super Bowl! It’s easy to be a fan of Emily Sisson but I really am a fan! Bonus is that she has a beagle.
Did the kids all do their best dog impression yesterday as part of the birthday celebration?
A few sourdough tips: you can keep your starter in the fridge until maybe a day before you plan to start on the dough. This eliminates feeding it every day. And I started with Bread Baking for Beginners by Bonnie OHara. Ok AND I highly recommend a folding method over a kneading method. Folding has better texture. Kneading requires adding more flour which affects the hydration percentage. And as you are learning, pay attention to how the dough feels at different stages. Different weather will affect how the sourdough rises.
Ok, enough tips for that. Wait, I like using King Arther flour.

I fully agree with you but I just had to ask to see what everyone thought haha. I was wanting to text you yesterday to ask but I don’t have your phone number haha. Thank you for the help… the more I read and watch about it the more afraid I am. Can you just come over and tutor us???

Happy Birthday to Baretta! Nala is almost 9 months old.
I think Skye and Beck will surprise you with how well they adapt to the time change on your trip 🤞
We all love the Super Bowl, but I am so excited to watch the trials!
It is pouring down rain this morning, so I think I will head to the gym for a treadmill run. It’s been quite a while since I’ve run in a treadmill… We’ll see how it goes, ha.
Have a good Thursday Janae

Thank you, Wendy! How is Nala already almost 9 months? Time needs to slow down. I really hope you are right. Hope you have the best treadmill run and your weather is all over the place lately. Thanks friend, you too!

I’m so sad that Molly Seidel and Jared Ward are out!! I love them both and I really thought Molly was a lock for the team.

I thought so too. I teared up when I watched her movie this morning!

Hope you have a beautiful day, Rachael!

I love that your nephew is cutting hair!!! It’s such a great skill and comes in handy-all my boys learned to cut hair and when they went to college they had a built in side hustle. My daughter learned to braid and curl hair.

Sourdough discard pancakes are top notch! They are soooo good!! My Beck said they are the best pancakes he’s had.

My black lab is 3 and she is realizing that when she turns 4 in April she’s going to have to acquire some big girl manners. She’s just the sweetest. Sometimes we get into Lucy and Ethel situations.

I CANNOT wait for the trials! I am seriously hoping that it works out for me to watch, living in Europe is tricky to watch US sports. Citius magazine online posted some fun bios that has info different that on the Trials Bio page. I’d take watching a marathon over the Super Bowl any day.

Ok, so cute that your nephew cuts hair! And I love that Brooke is playing the trumpet – that is my favorite band instrument! As someone who studied music in school I have the greatest respect for the parents of kids learning instruments! It can be loud, haha! But it’s awesome.

SO incredibly stoked to watch the trials, 50x better (for me) than watching the Super Bowl!!!

Also, I just wanted to say I that I saw some negative comments from some people in the past week and I’m so sorry. You are strong and incredibly generous to share your life with us and I hope you know how appreciated it is that you create a positive space. Hopefully you don’t get too down about the naysayers. Keep doing you! P.S. Keep us updated on Andrew’s Crossfit, I’m now invested in knowing how it goes!

Oh Janae!! I love my sourdough starter. i have had it for about 5 years now. I make everything sourdough from sourdough bread, tortillas, cookies, crackers, etc., etc.
I am happy to give you tips anytime!!
I have a sweet Sheepadoodle now that is 2 years old “Jake” or “Jakey Boy” or “Buddy” lol
I can’t wait for the trials, so many amazing stories I want them all to be on the team!!

I can’t wait for the trials! I’m also sorry for Molly, she was looking so strong. I probably won’t really “watch” the SuperBowl, but I WILLE EAT the snacks.

Brooke looks so grown up, how great she’s playing the trumpet.

I’m so excited to hear about your trip and the marathon!

I absolutely hate Kevin O’Leary…he’s on the Canadian version; Dragon’s Den….
yep, everything Olympics..every weekend I’ve been bing watching anything to do with skiing….I do like my NFL, but cannot stand KC…and yes, up until now I used to be a taylor swift fan….

I would 100% pay for someone to come to my house and cut my hair! He’s onto something.

This recipe is foolproof! I was so intimidated by the process of baking sourdough, but this recipe helped me so much and I’ve perfected it now. Good luck!
