Scenes from this week!

Now that I have officially shared every detail from Boston let’s talk about some of the things we have been up to since our plane landed…

Knox was in a huge Battle of the Books competition. He did so well. This kid could read all day.

Brooke had her State Fair! She chose Wyoming, and now we all want to go back to Yellowstone.
Skye had dance rehearsals for their recital, and she took it very seriously.

For the past few years, Andrew has been around in the afternoons to help get everyone to where they need to be because he was working the night shift. Now that he is working more regular hours, I’m having difficulty getting everyone where they need to be. My mom is SAVING me during this change.
We spend a lot of time in the car.

Just me and my errands buddy.

We had a fancy brunch together… Chic-fil-A breakfast is my favorite breakfast.

Cross-country season has started! I have a full post here about what I do with my coaching. My goal for the season–> help these kids fall in love with running in the fresh air with their friends. So many kids showed up to the first practice… I almost cried. It made me so happy.

A lot of hot tub time. Beck was just as excited as I was about us matching in our brown suits.

Of course, my running break happens during the most perfect weeks of spring running and not when we had a snowstorm daily.

Many people are preparing for the chance of flooding if the snow in the mountains melts too fast.

My mom brought over the world’s best taffy!

I miss running already… Please keep Andrew in your thoughts over the next 1.5 weeks of dealing with me without some miles in my legs.

I’m looking forward to changing my training; I’ve been in marathon training for way too long!

Been to any National Parks?!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Do you feel like you spend a lot of time in the car?

Who else lives near their mom?

Congrats to Knox on his Battle of the Books, that’s awesome! Looks like y’all had a busy week, Janae! This weekend looks busy for me with lots of school/work stuff- as a teacher, I feel like the stretch between Spring Break and summer is always jam packed! Brooke’s state fair looks so interesting- tell her she is getting me pumped up for my trip to Wyoming this June! :) We’ll be visiting Grand Tetons and Yellowstone NP and are so excited to run the Grand Tetons 5K and half marathon! We’ve also been to Rocky Mountain, Yosemite, Redwoods, and Smoky Mountains NP- they are all INCREDIBLE. We are so blessed to live in a country with such natural beauty! I read about possible flooding in Utah on NPR the other day. Please know that the people of Utah will be in our prayers this spring. Happy Friday Janae! :)

Emily! I am so so happy that you are going to Wyoming this summer. I have been thinking about doing that race too… oh that would be amazing! You are going to have the best time. Good luck during these next few weeks, it truly feels busier than the holidays IMO. Your students are so lucky to have you! Thank you and good luck this weekend!

That taffy sounds absolutely delicious! Thoughts and prayers going out to Andrew right now. The saying “I’m sorry for what I said at mile 20” should really be “I’m sorry for what I said during my post marathon running break”

This weekend I’m getting a pedicure and celebrating a friends birthday with a pizza dinner. Have a great Friday :)

BAHAHA I need to make a shirt with that saying on it so people will excuse my grumpiness. I need to send you some of this taffy, so dang good. Enjoy the pedicure and pizza, YUM!

My mother (and mother-in-law) both live within 10 minutes of us and I have no idea how I would function without them.

We live in the country so I spend a ton of time in the car shuffling kids back and forth from town and helping my husband on the farm, when needed. That’s why a good podcast selection is a must! Thankfully both my boys are good at taking along a book and ready during down time.

Nothing special this weekend but continue to be optimistic about ever-improving running conditions.

I am so glad you are so close to both your mom and MIL! It makes the biggest difference. I can’t imagine how much you must be in the car. You’ll have to share some of your favorite podcasts with me. Crossing my fingers that you have some beautiful runs coming your way soon! Thank Kj!

Your mom seems like the best!!
I had read about the risk of floods, avalanches, etc in Utah the other day on NPR. Hoping for the best out there!
We just went to Saguaro National Park in Arizona last month. Being surrounded by cacti instead of corn fields was a whole new world for me.
I have a 5K tomorrow. I’m hoping to be able to relax and not be too anxious. That’s been killing me lately!
Have a great weekend!

She really is! Hopefully all of the water really helps out the Great Salt Lake. I have wanted to go to Saguaro. So glad you guys went and experienced it all. GOOD LUCK TOMORROW! We run our best when we are calm. You are going to fly tomorrow, I just know it. Happy weekend, Molly!

Sounds like a fun and busy week ! Congrats to Knox!

Today I am getting my hair and makeup done..its a bridal trial. I never wear makeup so looking forward to this. And then I need a long run this weekend . And I am looking for hot pink shoes to match my wedding dress haha.

Its funny that Yellowstone was mentioned. That is on our bucket list to visit Yellowstone national park among others.

Have a fantastic day Janae. Enjoy your recovery!

Bridal trial! Oh I am just so excited for you. You must send me a pic of the shoes you get for your dress! Where are you going on your Honeymoon? Thanks Kristine!

I grew up going to the Rocky Mountain national park every summer. Then after living out here for so long, we went with our boys a few summers ago, and it is so beautiful! We started in the town of Estes Park, which is super cute, fun, great shops and restaurants. I haven’t stayed in Estes in a long time, but I know there are some great cabins to rent, and some great hotels too. That same summer, we also went to the Grand Canyon. That was truly breath taking. We stayed in the town of Wilson, just outside the park on the south side. Another super cute little town with great shops and restaurants. I definitely recommend both.
Oh how I remember the days of getting everyone to their after school stuff. It was tricky, and I just have 2! You’ll get the hang of it, don’t worry. But yay for having your mom close by to help!
Heading out for my early morning run with friends 😊. Then looking forward to a beautiful weather weekend and doing everything outside!
Have a great Friday Janae.

Oh I would love to go to those spots. Our world is so stunning. I’ve never asked you what took you from Colorado to California?! Thank you, Wendy! I hope your run with friends this morning was perfect. Enjoy the weather!

I came out here for college. I went to Chapman University and that’s where I met my husband :) He’s a “local” and his family is all close by, so we stayed here. Our wedding was in the mountains in Colorado though.
I hope Beck is having a better rest of his day, sweet boy.

I loved reading this! Beautiful story and I bet your wedding was absolutely gorgeous!

Why does Knox look so grown in that pic?!? Congrats to all your kiddos on their achievements this week! I am dying to run again after Boston too, but my quads would hate me forever if I tried to make them do it lol. And, btw, appearing in a picture on your blog may be the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. ;) Hope you all have a great weekend!

Reply

Running with you was the most exciting thing for me! Hahaha thanks Lindsay . You did absolutely AMAZING! Hope those quads start being kind to you soon!

Knox and Brooke look SO grown up in those pictures! You’re gonna have teenagers on your hands soon. Les’ sister has 4 kids and we were recently talking about all the driving she did for their activities. The youngest is now 17 so she’s not doing that anymore but it was definitely exhausting!

My favorite national park of all time is Yosemite but I’ve also been to Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains and Hawaii Volcanoes.

We have a free weekend and I’m really looking forward to it!

They really are going to be teenagers before we know it, how does time fly so quickly?! I would love to go to all of those spots! Enjoy your freek weekend and I hope you and Les get in some bike rides and runs!

I’m interested in what is the Battle of the Books competition? I’m a teacher, that sounds cool! Also, where did get those tokens for your cross country team? In my dream world I would like to have a running club at our school. But I’m not the personality to start up something new!

Reply

Hey Mary! It’s a competition where the kids are quizzed on different books on the list they are given. DO IT DO IT DO IT! The kids love it so much and it’s one of my favorite things each week. It’s worth it!

I did two french braids in my hair for my 8 miles this morning, and I LOVED IT! It’s going to be my new running hairstyle for sure. Thanks for the inspo!

I did Battle of the Books growing up, too! Congrats to Knox!

Reply

OH YAY! But how do you do it on yourself? I wish I could do it on my own head… time for Brooke to learn;). Oh that is awesome, I will tell Knox. Hope your day is off to a great start, Rachel!

Hi Janae! I’ve been to most of the national parks on the west side of the US and I gotta say Utah has some of my favorites! My favorite is Bryce in the winter, it’s gorgeous!
Happy Friday!

Reply

I have never been to Bryce in the winter, adding it to our list for next winter. Thank you, Amy! Happy weekend!

Congrats, Knox! What books is he into lately? And you certainly have a cute errands buddy. I feel like Moms have a special bond with their youngest because they get dragged along to all the activities. Maybe that’s why you and your mom are so close? And poor Andrew, hah! You’ve totally got this. OF COURSE the weather is going to be nice now that you’re not training, but that’s great for some afternoon walks with the kids or finally getting to some of your playgrounds (if they are melted out yet) to get the kids wiggles out. Enjoy a bunch of Vitamin D!!

Reply

Hey Michelle! Right now he is loving Goosebumps but he has been reading his list from Battle of the Books most of the time. I totally agree with you (as Beck is on my lap as I type today), we are just besties! So so true… off to get some Vitamin D! I hope you have a beautiful day!

I wish I lived further from my mom…kidding, it’s sometimes just a challenge but dad and mom are getting on in age (90, 89) and not doing well, so handy being here….but, well, wish my sister would move back up here from Scotsdale….
I need two good runs this weekend…just because.
how about trying triathlon? you’ve got the run, you’re on your bike training lots…and the best thing about triathlon, you get to buy lots of stuff…..

Hi Janae!

Super random question but I loved your overall outfit you shared recently! I’ve been thinking about getting some and you may have convinced me! Where is your t-shirt from?! It looks like the best basic long sleeve!

Reply

Hey Sammy! Thank you, I love those overalls so much. The top is from Abercrombie but I can’t find the same one, this one looks very similar though: https://shopstyle.it/l/bVpz6

Have a beautiful weekend!

Thank you Janae! You too!

I’ve been to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Mesa Verde, Great Sands, Rocky Mountain, Grand Canyon (rode the mules down to Phantom Ranch), Channel Islands, Joshua Tree, King’s Canyon, Sequoia, Yosemite, Badlands, and Wind Cave. Hope to add more and more to that list!
