Friday Favorites and My Bib Number!

(Shorts, shoes, bra)

Ten miles @ 8:37 average with the crew. My calves were quite sore from the track, but other than that, I felt great.  Also, it only snowed for half of the run, so that’s an improvement…

I got home to see my bib number from Boston! This took my excitement to the next level.
I’m working from Brooke’s desk now. Beck isn’t loving all of the changes right now.
The girls had a group of friends over for a hot tub party.
That included cookie dough.
And this is the only place to relax right now here, ha. I miss our couch dearly, especially during peak week. PS yes, that is a blizzard happening outside.

Did you know this story?

Let’s get into some favorites!

*These. Socks. Feetures sent me them, and I have fallen madly in love with them. No blisters will be created while wearing these socks. They are seamless and fit perfectly to my foot. PS I always get asked what my favorite running socks are, so I will go ahead and say these Feetures ones and these lulu ones.

*I love these sunglasses so much. I am always shocked by how light they are… I’ve been wearing them running lately, too! I also got them in the Olive color because I am so in love with them.

*This episode! I look up to Diljeet Taylor a lot and freak out when I see her around town; I get so nervous because I think she is so amazing.  I loved this episode so much. “The light is on the other side of that dark place.”

*I lost my jean jacket that I’ve had for a very long time and knew I couldn’t live without one so I did my research to find a new one.  I decided on this one, and I love it (PS only shop at Madewell when they are doing a sale, and right now it is 25% off… also, if you are a student or work in healthcare, you get a discount). The color of this one is perfect. I normally wear an XS or S at Madewell but went with a medium for more of a loose fit.  I’ll be wearing this all spring, and my nieces are going to want to borrow it as soon as they see it.

Have anything you are looking forward to this weekend?

Who is seeing Taylor Swift this weekend? Who has tickets to any of her shows or already saw her in Arizona?

If you are outside, do you always, often or never have sunglasses on?

-Always if it is after 8 am.

I would love it if anyone could share some tips with Michelle (and me!)–> “This winter I’m realizing I can’t live without sunshine. I know I’m so spoiled living in CA, but we’ve been pounded so hard with snow this year (like people’s roofs are caving in and buildings are collapsing amount of snow), which is adding stress, and not seeing the sun for weeks is hard mentally. Do any readers who live in areas of the country where gloomy winters are the norm have any tips?”

For the sunlight problem…………get one of the lamps that is recommended for people with seasonal affective disorder. my daughter uses one. she has it on for at least an hour in the morning while she’s getting ready for school. it has helped her a lot.
I have $143 in Ulta points that expire on 3/31. I’ll be going on an Ulta shopping spree this weekend. I’ll get myself some lipstick and fancy shampoo and probably a navy blue nail polish to go with my silver glitter.
Have a great Friday!!

I really need one of those lights too. It’s another blizzard right now and I am craving light. Oh my goodness, have the absolute best time at Ulta. A free shopping spree sounds heavenly. Happy weekend, Lee!

Thank you so much, Lee. The lamp sounds like a genius idea and I’m so glad it helped your daughter!

I’m seeing Taylor Swift TONIGHT!!!!!! My husband may have to peel me off the floor when it’s over because I’m so excited I can’t even handle it.
Yay for a bib number!!!❤️

Feetures are my favorite and those are SO cute!!! I feel for you reader, I can’t live without sunshine and the gloomy winters get me.
We’re in the process of moving an hour north of where I live now and yesterday I ran from our new house. From my front step I ran 10 miles of paved trails with no stop lights anywhere. It was HEAVEN. And I’ve barely scratched the surface of the trails. There’s even a cute little sandwich shop on the trail with outdoor water fountains and a bathroom for runners and cyclists….😍

Approx. where is this? I want to daydream about living there! ;)

Mollie, I am SO thrilled about where you are moving. That sounds absolutely perfect. You are going to thrive there! Keep me updated and good luck on the move!

Woohoo for bib numbers!

Advice for Michelle- I work as an NP in Sleep Medicine and also happen to live in one of the most overcast places in America. A light box along with vitamin D supplement (if low) works very well for most folks. I love the Verilux Happylight because of its lux rating and it’s a reliable brand. Ideally she would put it next to her face for 30 to 60 minutes every morning. It’s safe for most people but those with a history of manic episodes should steer clear.
And of course if she is to the point where she feels she needs it, mental health therapy is also very helpful. Seasonal affective disorder is a real thing, but definitely needs more than a light box to fix.
Hope that helps her!

Thank you so much for helping Michelle (and me)! I’m getting that light. I totally agree with you also about seeking out therapy. My therapist has helped me so much this winter. Hope your day is off to a beautiful start and 24 days ahhhhH!

Thank you, Stacey, I appreciate this so much! I just ordered the Verilux. I’m usually the super bubbly happy one who keeps everyone else from feeling blue, so this has actually been helpful to understand how they are feeling too.

The 1904 Olympic marathon is a wild ride if you read about it!

Born and raised in Chicago and now I live in the Northeast so here are my winter tips – Make sure you take a multi vitamin every day (maybe it’s a placebo but I think the Vitamin D in it is the main thing here); Get outside every day even if the sun isn’t out because fresh air does wonders for me; Make plans that force you to leave your house and that aren’t just a typical dinner with the girls. For example it’s been gloomy and grey the past few days so I bought a ticket to go see Six the Musical tonight instead of sitting on my couch watching a movie; If it’s affecting you so much consider seeing a doctor and seeing if you have SAD. If that’s the case a lot of people have success with sun lamps. I’ve never tried but it’s an option

Thank you so much for the help, I need these tips too. I hope you have the best time at the musical tonight, you are so smart to do that. Have a beautiful weekend, Maureen!

I’ve been outside a ton with all the shoveling and xc skiing to get my puppy exercise and I agree that the fresh air really helps. What a great tip to plan some fun events to look forward to, even if it’s movie nights at home with popcorn or with the neighbors when we’re snowed in. Thanks Maureen!

Sort of liking my morning coffee and say hi thing I’ve got going on with this week Janae… and it’s not raining today, so Happy Friday indeed!

First, a question, are you at all superstitious about Bib numbers? I try not to get in my own head about it, but for some reason I always feel better if I have a “3” or multiple of 3 in my number, ha! More crazy runner stuff.

This weekend is a big one to start the festivities for the my kids spring break week! On Saturday, my brother and sister in law and their 10 month old are coming to stay with us from the east coast for 5 days. I am SO excited to get to have some baby energy around again (mine are 4 and 7) . I’ve been going a bit overboard trying to make everything nice around the house for them, luckily we kept a lot of baby stuff for this reason. My older son has a soccer tournament on Sunday and then my mom and her partner/long term boyfriend (never know what to call him- do 70 year olds have boyfriends?) are coming over for a grill-out after with everyone.

Oh and of course, the obligatory long run will be in the mix too ;-)

PS: Love those socks, what’s the texture like? I’m SUPER picky about sock texture. I like how they are kind of old school track club looking.

PPS: Love those sunglasses too, but I can’t have nice things (i.e. my sunglasses need to come from gas stations) because my 4 year old will want to wear them and break them :-(

Thank you for posting your sock picks, I love socks :)

I never liked running with sunglasses until I found Goodr. I really like their sunglasses and they’re so affordable.

Happy Friday!

For Michelle:
I am an Illinois resident. I do not use the overhead lighting in my apartment at night. Instead I use string Christmas lights, LED lights that are on a wreath, or a decorative light on a table, or little candle lights. Anything subtle. It lessens the harshness of winter and creates more of a candlelit night feel. Creating more of a peace inside the home helps with the darkness outside and makes me look forward to the dark instead of being saddened by it.

I LOVE this Dawn, thank you!

Emma (my 21 yo daughter) is on spring break in Vegas and is seeing Taylor Swift tomorrow night! I am equal parts excited for her and jealous!

Your number is thousands lower than mine!😂I’m so excited to see what you do in Boston. I’ll be a few hours behind you and can’t wait! Let’s pray we’re getting all the bad weather out of our systems now and that Boston is a beautiful 43° with a gentle tailwind. So much snow in UT!!!

My husband and I are going on our first date in months tomorrow, so that’s exciting! I am also taking the kiddos tubing tomorrow AM (last opportunity of the season, I am sure!) and I am swinging by the dollar store this evening for a few Easter things.
The hot tub + cookie dough party looks like so much fun!
I live in Minnesota, so we have long winters too. I do daily Vitamin D, and have a full size light box that I try to sit in front of most mornings. Mine is a Day Light brand one that I was prescribed years ago, but I’ve heard there are great inexpensive ones now too. I also think getting outside helps, even when it looks grey & gloomy. Something about the fresh air? We ski, go sledding, or I’ve been doing a lot of short snowy walks this winter too. Our local nature center does snowshoe hikes & other organized events that can be good motivation to actually GO when it is cold. Spring is coming eventually here!!

Reply

Thank you, Katie – yes, Spring will come, we just have to hang in a bit longer!

I LOVEFeeture! They’re basically the only socks I run in now.
We’re hosting a retirement party for my husband’s aunt tomorrow! Lots of family and fun, and lots of love for the one and only favorite aunt Julie. She is the best!
Fun fact… My husband’s cousin is one of Taylor Swift’s dancers on tour with her 😊. She was a NYC Rockette for 10+ years too. She has said that this your has been so fun. The whole crew is awesome and Taylor is such a great person. Look for the tall redhead, that’s our Natalie!
I feel Michelle so much! We have had so much rain this year, and tons of snow in the mountains! Every time there is a bit of sun, I just stand outside for as long as I can. We currently have no rain predicted until Wednesday. Yay!
Have a great Friday 😊

Hah, yes, on the few days we’ve had sun it seems like the whole town is out in the middle of the street staring at the sun. Yay for some sunshine coming up!

Currently reading this with my “happy” light on, because it is dark and gloomy and snowing still!

I live where it’s winter 6 months of a year, dark by 4PM, dark until almost 9AM….I just make sure I get outside no matter what….and not let the weather stop me.
Sunglasses, it seems more and more often the older I get……or if I just want to look cool?
as much as I love live music, the bigger shows have kind of turned me off….the money some artists are asking for….while Elton John’s final live show live wold have been good, but the bigger the TV the better it was with friends..and lots of wine….but, saying that, walk off the earth with lindsey stirling would be cool..

Reply

Warren, I saw Lindsey Stirling in December and it was the best show ever. Seriously. I’m sure with Walk off the Earth it will be fantastic – I vote get tickets!

…..and cue all the Oregonians and Washingtonians to pipe in about the sunlight issue. The lack of sunlight rarely bothers me because I’m used to from living in Oregon (I now live in Europe and it’s similar climate). I highly recommend a lamp that is for seasonal affect disorder. I know a few teachers that have them on their desks or friends that place them on their dining room tables. The other thing is to open all the curtains and blinds to feel less closed in. And lastly, go outside as much as you can. Even a 20 minute time span a few times a day will help. I work in a school and go bonkers in the winter when it’s dark in the AM and dark in the PM when I go home. If I don’t get time outside after work and before going home, it’s annoying.

That denim jacket is the perfect denim jacket. Not too dark, not too light, not too distressed…..just right.

Reply

Thank you Kelly! I feel bad complaining at all because we are so spoiled in CA most of the time. I give huge props to the Pacific Northwesterners, you really don’t let the rain stop you!

And I agree that’s the perfect jean jacket, Janae!

Reply

Michelle-I think it’s hard to deal with grey skies/snowy/rainy days no matter what! Truly, if you notice it bothers you it’s because it’s very, very real!! I hope sunny skies arrive fast for you!!!
