One of the best runs of the year + how 2023 is going so far + training week #1

(shorts, shirt, shoes, hat)

One of my favorite runs of the year–> Runners Corner waffle run!

Usually, we are icicles for this run, but I was down to a tank top and no gloves. It felt so freeing.

And the waffles and raffle after are always a good time.
They are such a fantastic group of humans. I ran with two girls that have OTQed (with 2:33s) and picked their brains on everything. I feel like I not only got in a good run, but I also got in a lesson on running and so much motivation to start working hard this week. I also talked to my previous coach, Hawk, for a while, and he gave me so many pointers for my Boston training that I’ll share along the way.
I hit 51 miles for week one of marathon training, so the hamstring massages have begun again. Here is what week one looked like:

Week 1 of Boston Training:

Monday:  10 miles @ 9:06 average on the trails

Tuesday:  45 min 2000s pop ride with Kendall Toole on the Peloton

Wednesday:  10 miles @ 8:14 in a snowstorm.    1 downhill mile @ 5:34, 1.15 miles uphill @ 9:15 pace, 3rd interval we scratched because it was getting too slick.

Thursday:  8 miles @ 8:30 pace with plenty of hills on the roads.

Friday: 10 miles @ 7:59 average pace.

Saturday:   13 miles @ 7:43 average.

Sunday:  Off

We stayed home for the weekend. We felt like being cozy at home and away from the crowds.
We worked on our goals for 2023!
And on Sunday, we went out for a walk because I was getting grumpy, and Andrew knows that getting me outside is always the cure.

We made broccoli cheddar soup (which was delicious).

And my 2023 food so far can be summed up in this bag. So. dang. good.

Who made it to midnight?

I was in bed at 10:30!! Even that felt late. Hah!
Not January but close enough … Dec 31 (NYE) is our anniversary – people still tell me it was the most fun wedding ever!! 8 years married, 19 together!!
Can’t wait to see what you accomplish this year janae!
My 2023 goal – eat more vegetables and spend less time on my phone.

10:30 IS LATE! Happiest anniversary to you two! That is amazing… 19 years together. Wow! Thanks friend and the same to you. I’ll join you in those goals haha. Have a beautiful day, Andrea!

I stayed up to midnight on New Years DAY when our friends came over. NYE I was snoring on the couch by 1030.
I don’t have anything too fun planned for January. I should change that!
Any plans to re try out for Runners Corner team this year? They would be lucky to have you. IMO!
Random-is this the year that Andrew finishes school? That would be super exciting!

That is impressive… are you exhausted today?! I think you should plan something for January! They have asked but I actually don’t think it will work this year! He will be done in 2024… we both wish SO badly it was this year though. I hope your day is off to a great start, Molly!

I made it to 9.15! Ha! Best thing I ate this weekend… vanilla ice cream blended with mango and frozen strawberries (picked this past summer). Was soooo delish. Grumpy cure– outside time/ movement (or sometimes just a good ol’ nap). My son turns TWO on 1/23! Woohoo! :)

Have a great day, Janae!

9:15 is way late for me most nights:). Ummmm I need to try that combo. I’m drooling. Happiest birthday to your son this month! Yep, somehow I forget sometimes but getting outside and moving is the best cure for basically anything. Thanks friend, you too!

Happy New Year! Best thing I ate over the weekend….I had a NYE dinner date and after crab dip and steaks at a fancy restaurant we ordered the kids French toast sticks 🤣 and then dessert. They looked at us like we were crazy but I think I’ve found my match. 😆😆
I’m supposed to run Houston but my hip is hurting. I’m not sure what to do. 😒 it’s been getting progressively worse and I’m a little nervous it’s not just tight like I thought it was.

Ummm that crab dip and steaks… calling my name. So are those french toast sticks. We need to all go out to eat together. Hahaha I NEED MORE DETAILS. That’s how I knew Andrew was the one, he didn’t want to split a dessert. Crap about your hip! Keep me updated on it all. I am so sorry!

Looks like a great start to the year!! Are you coaching yourself now?

We went out of town for New Years and had so much fun! We did not make it to midnight.

Like you my cure for most things is to get outside, especially if it’s in the mountains.

Jeff is still coaching me but it was just so fun to hear about all of the extras etc they are doing! I am SO glad you guys got out of town for New Years. That sounds perfect! Yep, the mountains definitely cure me even fastest. I hope you are in the mountains again soon! Thanks Beth, have a beautiful day!

I stayed up until 11:30 or so. We were watching Ryan Seacrest and did our countdown when it was midnight in Puerto Rico (so 11 PM EST). That was good enough for me!

I’m excited to follow your training for Boston!

I’m looking forward to a few things in January. My Peloton Tread is being delivered on Friday. I’m very excited. My husband and I alternate leaving the house for workouts on weekday mornings, so the days he goes to the gym I can’t run. Now I will be able to run on the tread when he isn’t home! I’m taking my sister for a spa day to celebrate her 40th birthday. And going to see Jagged Little Pill the musical at the end of the month.

That is VERY late… I’m proud of you! Thank you, I’m excited to be in training again. Ummmm I am SO jealous. I need a full review of the treadmill as soon as you get in some miles. I’m also very jealous of the spa day and seeing Jagged Little Pill! Hope your day is a beautiful one, Jenny.

Made it to midnight, and maybe still paying for it. ;)

I HAD A DREAM ABOUT YOU THE OTHER NIGHT HAHA. Sorry if that sounds creepy. You were a doctor in downtown Chicago and we ran into you there for one of Andrew’s classes haha. I’m so impressed you made it to midnight. I would be paying for it for a month! Have a beautiful day, Erica.

My parents know that my husband and I both love those chocolate covered coconut almonds and that we don’t have a Costco membership…so they gave us 3 bags this year. We froze them because otherwise we eat them so fast we get sick.

Reply

I need to freeze a bag. I was feeling sick last night from eating so many ha. Best. Treat. Ever. Hope your day is off to a great start, Victoria!

I agree, getting outside definitely helps when I get grumpy!
My husband & I are celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary tomorrow! Although we met back in 2009 :)

Reply

I don’t know what we would do without getting outdoors! 8th wedding anniversary wahooo! And 13 years ago you met, I love it. Hope your day is off to a great start, Loribeth!

Hi Janae! I did make it to midnight and I am definitely still paying for it. Being in California is nice but I am definitely ready to go home now and hangout with all my friends again! I go back next Saturday.
Happy New Year!

Way to go, Amy! Haha I think we are all going to be tired this week. I hope you continue to have the best time in California but it will feel so good to be home again on Saturday. Happy New Year to you!

Sounds like such a fun run! And waffles after, so yummy!
We’ve had such yummy food all weekend, it’s hard to pick the best. Pork chili Verde, corn chowder, chili… All so good.
We’re heading home today and I am feeling so motivated for the new year.
Have a great day Janae 😊

Wish you could have joined us but your food sounds even better! LOVE that motivating feeling… I’m feeling that too! I hope your morning is off to a great start, Wendy!

I didn’t even try to stay up, lol

That broccoli cheddar soup looks so good. I’ll definitely be making that soon.

Oh being outside dissolves all grumpiness, so true. In the sun, even better. I’m looking forward to following along your Boston training, go go go.

Stuffed baked sweet potato, I want another one! Have a great Monday :)

I think next year I am going to be in bed at 9ish like normal haha. You’ll have to let me know what you think of the soup! If you ever time, send me that sweet potato recipe. I NEED THAT! Thanks Tracy, you too!

Our power was out on NYE so we used that as an excuse to be in bed before 9:00 🤣. Glad you got in a cozy weekend, sometimes that just feels so right!

Best day for the power to go out hahah… I would have jumped right in bed. Thanks Michelle, hope your morning is off to a great start!

I was in bed by 10:30 but did wake up around midnight when our neighbors were shooting off fireworks. Still managed to get up and run 10 miles yesterday morning. For some reason I also thought it would be a good idea to go for a trail run this morning, my legs did not agree, but the sky was totally worth it!

My eating was pretty boring over the weekend, but we did stop at Krispy Kreme yesterday.

Fresh air and chocolate are my 2 cures for when I’m grumpy. If one doesn’t do the trick, the other usually does. Or a nap.

My mom’s birthday was January 1st. I’ve celebrated 25 without her now and it’s hard to imagine what she would be like at 83.

How do you get your kids to make goals?

well, I turned 64 eaxactly 1 day and a bunch of hours ago, so yeah< i hate January.
I for some reason always give the impression that I'm grumpy…I seriously never, I really love where I am and love what I do most of the time…..best thing I ate, my attempt at lasagna without all or enough ingredients..it was eatable, and really way too much cheese…
I don't know if I'm watching too much news, or not enough……Iran, Afghanistan…it's easy not being angry, but heartbroken worried, unset…Ukraine?…..I try to not watch 24 hour news, but, well, thank goodness we have running and can…what's a world like where you can't go for a run because you're a woman…?….this planet has got to get better

Sorry, random question. What were the last 2 novels you read? I meant to write them down but didn’t. The last one you said it was just ok, but I believe you liked the 2nd to last novel. If you remember let me know. Thanks!

Hey Ashley! I thought the not a happy family was just ok but I loved in 5 years! Happy reading and let me know what you think!
