Friday Favorites!

(pants, sweatshirt, shoes)

Hallelujah for roads that were mostly clear.

I was so happy to get to have Andrew on my run with me yesterday.  I was shocked he was excited about riding a bike when it was so cold out, but we had a blast and laughed for at least 6.7 of the 7 miles.

Skye joined me for the foam rolling.  I had no idea what a foam roller was until I was twenty years older than her, and she is a pro.

We had their friends over most of the day, and these two were in heaven.

Gotta love those yearly OBGYN appointments…  I had my blood work done too.

We had the girls over in our area that are Brooke’s age, and they did their version of Cupcake Wars.  They had 30 minutes to decorate their cupcakes, and things got competitive.

We made some simple tacos for dinner.   I am positive I could eat guacamole every day and never tire of it.

Let’s get chatting about some favorite things!

*I love Valentine’s Day, and I love this ribbon.

*Leftover pizza reheated in the air fryer.  It tastes better this way than it does the day I make it.

*Andrew and I watched this movie, and it was incredible.  It is based on a true story and very, very heavy, but it is an amazing story (based on a true story).  If you need a cry, this is the movie to watch.  The sisters in this movie are sisters in real life too.

*Mel told me to try out the Orange Zest Scones from Magnolia Table; they are heavenly.

*I quit soda a few weeks ago, so I’ve been on the hunt for ways to get in my caffeine and found this to be the most delicious source (plus, it has some protein and collagen)!

*And I’ll just remind you one more time, my favorite running vest is on sale.

Yay for mostly clear roads and having Andrew on the bike with you.
I am a coffee person. My morning ritual is to have 1 cup of coffee, with collagen powder, sift through emails, then head out for a run and workout. It’s really the only time I have caffeine.
I’ve been on a declutter/deep clean kick off and on this month, so I’m sure this weekend will involve more of that. But first, hopefully a date night tonight. My husband has been super busy, so I’m hoping to squeeze that in!
Off for an early morning run. Have a great Friday!

That sounds like the perfect morning ritual. I love it. I’m hoping your declutter mood will rub off on me. Hope your run was great this morning and enjoy date night!

ABSOLUTELY YES TO GUACAMOLE EVERYDAY! I love the fresh kind from Whole Foods that has big chunks in it. Perfect when I’m in a pinch and don’t have time to make it myself.
Also, you shared the PR Lotion a few months back and my husband got it for me for Christmas. I’ve been meaning to tell you–obsessed. And I promise it works right? It’s not just my brain tricking me into thinking it when I use it, runs feel faster and easier? SOLD.
Happy Friday! Big 16 miler on deck for Boston training this weekend.

WE NEED A WHOLE FOODS. It’s just not fair. I’m drooling over your description of it.

PR lotion… YES! I am so happy you love it and it truly does work. I’m going to get mine out now. Have the best 16 miles tomorrow, I have 16 miles on my schedule too. Let me know how it goes!

I love when my husband joins me on his bike for my run. The sound of the derailleur becomes soothing. Ha!
I love my Lulu vest. I bought it after your recommendation-thanks!
Morning ritual is also my only caffeine time. One delicious cup of black coffee with locally roasted beans.
I’ll give you an award for coolest mom ever after that cupcake wars event!
Good luck with your long run tomorrow!

It really is the best date to go out on a bike/run. Seriously, those vests last forever too and they are perfect for runners. Mornings are for caffeine and your coffee sounds amazing. Thanks Molly and I hope you have this weekend off!

Coffee is the best and most enjoyable way to get caffeine – hot or iced, that coffee smell in the morning is life. But I do iced all winter and Dunkin’ Donuts gets it done.

I am obsessed with the smell of coffee too. SO so good. I hope you get so much this weekend. Enjoy!

I do take a caffeine pill in the morning – it’s just 100 mg of caffeine and nothing else. I’m just never going to be a coffee drinker. These give me a little more energy and focus to get going in the morning. I used to drink one of those little 5 Hour Energy shots every morning. I gave them up because of the artificial sweeteners, but I do miss those little things; they were delicious.

I think I’m going to try to go to a store this weekend and try that vest on in person! I’m very tempted by it but I’ve never bought anything from there and a lot of online reviews said it runs small, so I want to try it on and not just guess what size will fit me. Also – this probably sounds dumb – but can you really machine wash and dry it, even with the down filling?

I want to try those pills, that is awesome. I need caffeine for focus too. I’ve had those shots in the past too and you are right, they are delicious. Let me know if you like the vest! I absolutely wash and dry mine all of the time but I probably shouldn’t. Definitely try it on first then. I hope you love it. Have a beautiful weekend, Allison!

I’m a coffee person, especially when it’s cold, I love cozying up in the morning with a hot cup of coffee.

Favorite thing from this week- my boyfriend made bagels from scratch for breakfast! They were so good and it felt like such a sweet gesture.

Feeling cozy in the mornings is the absolute best. Bagels from SCRATCH! That is amazing and I love that he did that for you. Enjoy, Mariah!

Hi Janae! Where did you get this cute sweatshirt? The link up top isn’t working. :) Thanks!!

Thank you so much for letting me know! Here is the link and it is on sale, wahoo! Have a great Friday, Lara!

That energy drink sounds amazing–though I have a problem with just 7 g of protein per serving being advertised as “packed with protein” (from the title on the amazon listing), I can see adding this to a smoothie that includes a scoop of vanilla protein and other smoothie ingredients to really make a 30+ g protein smoothie that could be super tasty.

As for giving up soda: congrats! It’s tough but you got this. I had my last diet coke on Feb 6, 2013 (literally)–I can’t believe it’s almost 10 years.

I haven’t given up CAFFEINE though–with too many early mornings, I need it to function. For many years, I took caffeine tablets (my body has allergy-like reactions to coffee…). I’ve been whittling down my caffeine intake significantly over the last few months with help from a functional medicine doctor (I’m working on significant adrenal gland repair), and right now what is helping me be just solid enough to get out the door and drive to the gym at 4:30 AM without becoming a hood ornament on days when I teach is having one of the sports caffeinated Nuun tablets (40 mg caffeine is a lot better than a caffeine tablet…), and then if I need full on caffeine, having a tablet *after* breakfast so my body metabolizes such a large intake better.

I hope you guys have a great weekend! My weekend will be mostly calm–errands, laundry, that kind of stuff–but on Sunday afternoon I am taking a friend out for sushi dinner because her birthday was earlier this week! I’m excited!!!

Reply

Stephanie, you have a point haha. Definitely not packed with protein, good thing I rely on Core Power for that! TEN YEARS! Congratulations! You are my inspiration. I feel so much better without it. I need caffeine to function too. 430 am. I will think of you when I am too tired to get out for my run and that will get me up. Sounds like the perfect weekend to me and enjoy that sushi!

Hooray for mostly clear roads for a day!! I have to shovel our driveway at some point, so I might use that as motivation to checkout the status of our previously icy sidewalks.
My new (in the last 2 months) morning routine is waking up super early and starting with Audio-Bible readings/reflections while I get ready & have my tea. It’s the best part of my day, which is crazy because I have never been a morning person before.
I got a chocolate-chip cookie cottage kit (sort of like a gingerbread house kit) from a coworker yesterday, so that will happen with the kiddos at some point over the weekend. It’s sort of Christmasy, but I think chocolate chip cookie projects can still happen in January!
We are making guacamole with our supper tonight, and I cannot wait. Special request from the kids! Completely agree that guac could happen every day, and I would not complain.

Good luck with the shoveling… that is quite the task. What a beautiful way to begin your day. I am so happy that you have been able to add that. Ummmm I want one of those kits, that sounds so fun and perfect for January! Enjoy your guacamole. It is just too good to be true. Happy weekend, Katie!

Hi Janae! I don’t drink any caffeine but I guess chocolate has caffeine and I do eat that! A morning ritual is definitely checking your blog! Catching up with friends this weekend so I guess that’s both busy and relaxing! Happy Friday!

Teach me to go without caffeine! I feel so lucky to be part of your morning rituals. Seriously, so lucky. Have the best time with your friends… the best. Thanks Amy!

I am a black coffee person! cold brew or hot, I love it all!

It’s cold here but no snow…………..might actually make it more exciting to run if there was snow. I am so ready for summer.

Have a great weekend!

I hope you get all the black coffee you want this weekend. I wish you guys could take some of our snow ha. Seriously. Summer cannot come soon enough. Thanks Loribeth, you too!

It’s snowing like crazy and is slippery out here today…may tempt the trails later, but may become a rest day and a day to plan the weekend….and hey, because of you I’m changing my Garmin from the metric system to imperial…because I really need a challenge or something….

Reply

I hope the trails are good for you to use today! Hahah good luck with the change. Have a wonderful day, Warren!

I love caffeine in all forms but hands down my favorite before a workout or to get through the afternoon is Amino Energy. You control the amount of caffeine and love the taste. They sell it on Amazon & at Costco. I am sure you know this but if you ever go over to the outlets in Kimball Junction there is a Whole Foods right there too. I actually never shop there but my mom loves it. Summer in Utah is my absolute favorite!!

I love that you start your day outdoors enjoying your run even when it’s cold. I love my walks however I’m in the heat of Texas but during the early months of the year, it is chilly here. Keep yourself safe with protective gear such as reflective clothing and lights. Stay safe.
