PLEASE COME + Boston Training Week #4 Recap!

(shoes, shorts, vest, shirt)

It wasn’t supposed to snow, but it did, so I brought a variety of shoes to choose from when I got to our meeting location. I decided to wear my favorite speed shoes because it wasn’t too slick out (just on one of the downhills, so I slowed down there), and I was happy with that decision.

We did a killer loop with so much climbing (and pushing up the hills) two times, and on the second loop, we did a tempo on the way down to the start. My friend Amber was with me for the tempo part and helped me so much because my legs were jello after those hills.

There was a light snow the entire time, and it was so pretty to see the individual snowflakes that were so detailed.
Happy to have deposited another workout in my training bank account.
Week 4 of Boston training:

Monday:  10 miles @ 9:13 average pace with 1100 ft of climbing.  Snowy day and we were on the trails and roads.

Tuesday: 7 miles @ 8:24 average

Wednesday:  10 miles @ 8:02 average pace (too slick for a speed day, so we pushed it to Thursday).

Thursday:  16 miles @ 7:17 average with 2 x 2 miles + 1 mile + 5 x 200m

Friday: 8 miles @ 8:38 average

Saturday:  15 miles @ 7:27 average.  We did the same loop twice that included a lot of climbing, so we pushed the uphill (a new PR on the big hill we did ((.57 miles w/ 247 ft of climbing)) and did a tempo down (on the second loop).  It was a little slick on the down, so I didn’t go full tempo, but I really pushed the ups. I love a workout focused on effort vs. pace, and this loop was perfect for that—1400 ft of climbing total.

Sunday:  Off!

66 miles for the week, and I will cut back a bit next week.

We got out on a date on Saturday.

And ate my favorite rice bowl on the planet from 180 Tacos.
We were all pruned with how much we hot tubbed.

Fresh bread:)

And we finalized our Boston trip. If you are going to be there (4/15), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come for a short shakeout run on Saturday morning. I don’t have all the details yet, but I’ll have some women from the elite corral to give us some tips; so much Core Power and all the talking. Long story short, save Saturday morning for me;)

Will anyone be able to come to my shakeout run???

What was the best part of your weekend?

Who is ready for spring, and who is living their best life in the winter?

Anyone going somewhere warm this time of year?  Andrew and I were talking about how we wish we were going to Mexico this time of year again like last year.

Oh my goodness, I wish I could come to the shakeout run! I *might* be able to swing it, but I work at a church on Sundays and live in CT so was planning to come up Sunday after church.
The best part of my weekend was going to see a Broadway tour of SIX. So so good!

We are planning a March trip to Arizona. I am only used to humidity so dry weather will be a new life experience. I really want to go to Europe this year too. Are you guys still planning on Switzerland? I did not forget my informal invitation to join you guys as long as I wear matching outfits with the fam.
Best part of my weekend was a last minute ticket to see a musical. I went solo but oddly ended up seated next to a friend. Thanks universe!

Molly! I am so happy that you guys are making it out to Arizona, the weather will be perfect then. Hahaha you better come on any trips we go to. We switched things around and still working on details but now it is just me and Andrew:). What are the odds? So happy you were able to go to that musical and sit next to a friend. Have a great Monday, Molly!

I love when you can see each individual snowflake. That run sounded hard but fun! And I love that you’re the only one wearing shorts, ha ha. Awesome job on another week of Boston training.

Reply

10000000000% yes. Nothing would make me happier! More details to come and I can’t wait to meet you, Katrina!

Reply

Katrina, SAME! Not running Boston this year, but I’m local. I’m doing the BAA 5k at 8am, so if you do something at 9 I should be able to make it (depending on how fast I can run the 5k I guess!)

Reply

Good luck at the 5k and yes… I’m thinking 9 or 9:30? Would that work? I have to meet you!

Reply

I hope one day to qualify for Boston and I hope if it ever happens you are still going and hosting shakeout runs!!

Please please please! That would be amazing. Have a wonderful day, Mary!

Oh, poo, I was planning on coming up the 16th so I’ll miss your meetup. I would say “run a mile for me” but I want you to rest, so “rest an extra hour for me” instead :)

Nooooooo I need to meet you!

Great detailed picture of that snowflake! I have never seen one that actually looks like the kind that you draw :-) I am in California for the winter. It is very nice but not super hot. I was thinking of heading over to Hawaii! I’m watching White Lotus season one right now :-)
Your hair length looks super cute in that picture with your hat. Great job to you and your friends on your workout!

Right? Each snowflake was so detailed. I fully support you going to Hawaii! Thank you so much and enjoy, Amanda!

Hi Janae – I’m so there for the shakeout run on Saturday in Boston! I’ve been reading your blog for years, but today is the day I finally comment. This will be my 4th marathon, 2nd Boston Marathon and I couldn’t be more excited. I had an amazing day at the 2022 Boston Marathon and negative split the course, which I’ll never stop talking about haha. I just ran a 3:06 in Houston last weekend and felt I had a lot more to give, SO, I’m putting it out in the universe than I’m attempting to go sub-3 in Boston this year. Big, scary goal – need all of your speedy tips! ;) can’t wait to meet you!

Reply

Jenna. I have so many things I want to say to you! Huge congrats on Houston! Wow! And a negative split at Boston last year? Incredible. I cannot wait for you to get that sub 3 at Boston this year and I can’t wait to meet you there! We have so much to talk about! Happy training!

AHHHHHH YES! I cannot wait. Thanks Lindsay!

I just signed up for the 5k run that Saturday (I think it’s held at the Common) so if timing works out I would love to meet up!

Best part of my weekend was hanging with my niece for her birthday and enjoying a water circuit at a spa!

Reply

YAY!!! I hope it works out and you can come. I’m wanting to do this after the 5k!

Reply

Ahhhh…..I’m so bummed. We’re not flying into Boston until Saturday night. I was so hoping to make a meet-up. But on the flip side, we’re taking the whole week following the race off for vacation which was part of our reason not to fly to Boston earlier.

Reply

You guys are going to have the best time. Good for you to take the whole week off after the race! Maybe we can Facetime you in for the run!

Reply

Yayy re- shakeout run! I’ll try to be there. Looking forward to hearing more details as they come. Great job with training!!!

AHHHH THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! SEE YOU SOON!
