What story are you telling yourself + didn’t get them:(

(leggings, shoes, long-sleeve, vest, gloves)

It felt like we were running through sand for eight miles but hearing the crunch with each step was so much fun.

These are by far the best gloves I have ever used for running.  My fingers get so cold when I am running, but the temps were in the teens yesterday, and my fingers felt toasty the whole time in these.

Skye is pretty upset (as am I) that we didn’t get Taylor Swift tickets, so she asked if she could write her a letter to see if we could have some of the extra ones.

What happens when you get a ride home from school in the winter (the roads were clear by the afternoon):

Mel’s cheesy breadsticks, creamy tortellini soup (with chicken instead of sausage), and pears were the perfect dinner.  I know the lighting is really making it look so appetizing, but I promise it all tasted so good.

Also, her one-hour breadsticks are excellent too.

It turns out I’ve influenced Skye too… LIQUID IV + a Maurten water bottle.

He is doing his best to stay bundled up this time of year.

Ummm, how am I just learning this?

Today’s random running thought…

Have you ever paid attention to the story you have come up with about your running?  Is your story that you are weak and not strong enough to hit your goal?  Is your story that you are getting stronger each day and that you can do hard things?  Is your story that you are a quitter?  Is your story that you own those hills and have so much to look forward to ahead?  Is your story that you are too old for this?  Is your story that you have found your thing and won’t let obstacles hold you back?

Whatever story you tell yourself, you will search and find the evidence to prove that your story is correct.

Let’s choose the story that takes us closer to our goals!  The story that allows us to see how tough we are and the one that reminds us that we are enough!

And I’ll finish off with an old picture of the girls running because I love it so much.

Also, good luck to everyone running CIM this weekend.  Have the race of your life!

Who got Taylor Swift tickets? Who tried and didn’t?

-I WAS SO EXCITED TO TAKE MY GIRLS.

Best concert you have ever been to?

-Andrew and I saw Jimmy Eat World at a super small venue and we were in the very front and it was just amazing.

We didn’t get tickets either, so sad :( what a crazy mess too, I hope they can do something to fix this for future Taylor Swift concerts.

I have seen Taylor Swift before, for Red and Reputation, both were amazing!!

Seriously, so crazy how it went down! You’ve seen her twice?! Skye is going to be jealous ha. Have a great day, Mariah!

I didn’t get Taylor Swift tickets either. I tried with the capital one sale.

Uggg I am so sorry. Skye and I empathize with you. Hope you have a beautiful day!

I tried for 6 hours and didn’t get tickets either. Super bummed! Maybe Skye can ask Taylor to hold a private concert for HRG readers!

Love thinking about “what story I am telling myself!” You’re so right that we look for evidence to prove ourselves right, so might as well tell ourselves a story of strength and success!

I will have her add that to her letter! Bummer that you didn’t get one either. Yes yes yes… we will find the evidence! I hope your day is off to a great start, Rachel!

Oooo…. I love this post! What is the story we tell ourselves. You are so right! So I’m 50, I can still conquer some big goals!! I really needed to read this this morning! Thank you!
Oh wouldn’t that be awesome if Taylor Swift writes Skye back? I can’t believe there were no tickets available!!
Running in your mountains looks incredibly beautiful!!
Oh, favorite Christmas song(s)… Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and The Christmas Song 😊

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

YES YOU CAN! I am always so inspired by you! Seriously, that would be amazing. Have a beautiful day, Wendy! Also, are you going to Colorado for Christmas?

Best concert ever was Kool and the Gang, those guys were awesome! We saw them at an outdoor venue at Wolds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City. So much fun! This was way back in 1985.

That sounds amazing! Thanks again for the help, John! I hope you have a wonderful day!

I didn’t even kid myself with trying to get T Swift tickets. It was already an interesting experience procuring Michelle Obama tour tickets a few months back.
Brooke is too funny! Good job on surviving that winter scooter ride!

How exciting that you are going to see Michelle Obama! Hahaha I hope she was joking and not actually frozen;). Hope your day is off to a great start!

Best concert I’ve ever been to was the first time I saw Paul McCartney. As a HUGE Beatles fan, I can’t describe how awesome it was to see him perform live.
I took my daughter last year to see Harry Styles, and sharing that experience with her was something I’ll never forget. Ok, she turned me into a Harry fan too :). Hoping to get her Louis Tomlinson tickets for Christmas :D

Oh I bet Paul McCartney’s concert was INCREDIBLE! And you are the coolest mom ever. What a fun memory to have together! Have a beautiful day, Amanda.

I need to listen to that one!! Happy Wednesday, Mary!

Ralphie is also the airline attendant in Four Christmases! I wonder how many other Christmas cameos he has made?

Love the post about telling yourself stories that support your goals instead of one’s that destroy them! Great advice!

WHAT?!?! Oh my goodness, another thing I’m just realizing. Thank you, Karin! I hope you have a beautiful day.

Hi Janae! My husband and I had our first date at a Linkin park concert! That was so much fun!
Those gloves look so cool! I bet they resist wind too!
Happy Wednesday!

NO WAY! I love that and I have seen them in concert too and loved them. Yes, they do so good in the wind. Thanks friend, you too!

So sad about Taylor that would be an amazing concert!!

I love running in snow too, it’s the best when it’s fresh ( I could just do without the ice/muddy yuck that sometimes comes after).

Love the message about the stories we tell ourselves, it’s easy to fall into negative ones, it’s sometimes hard to cheer for ourselves as much as we cheer for others.

Also your pantry is seriously goals!

Janae,

This will give you a taste of a Kool and the Gang concert, JT’s vocals and the portable keyboard player are amazing…

I’m sorry you didn’t get Taylor Swift tickets…how fun that you enjoy her music with your girls!
Best concert experience: sitting in the second row of an outdoor amphitheater in Iowa on a summer evening, taking in Paul McCartney and Wings
Favorite Christmas song: Judy Garland’s version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

I got tickets for my girls and I after being glued to my device for 6 hours. It was incredibly stressful but we lucked out. Not the best seats but grateful to take my Senior daughter to see her and my younger daughter as well. They are true swifties! We are so excited!

Faith Hill’s “A Baby Changes Everything”. It’s my favorite Christmas song. Makes me cry when I hear it.

I was obsessed with The Smashing Pumpkins as a teen (still kind of am, to be honest) and saw them on Superbowl Sunday in 1997. It was the first and best concert I have ever attended. I’m not the biggest Taylor Swift fan, but feel sad for poor little Skye. It would be so cool if Taylor wrote her back!
Have a great day, Janae!

I have a Buddy scooter too and she’s so fun!

I’ve been to two Taylor Swift concerts and this year my daughter, me, and my husband put our names in as verified fans and my daughter was able to get the three of us tickets. The last one we went to, it was the three of us and she was only 10.

Fun side note, I used to work at a radio station back in the day (18ish years ago) and Taylor Swift in all her baby glory played for people in our conference room. So freaking cool.

I love Christmas songs, one of my favorites is O Holy Night.

I’m running CIM this weekend!! I signed up 20 days ago when a friend was looking to transfer their bib. So I am excited but nervous since I didn’t have a “proper” marathon training block!

So the story I am going to tell myself this weekend is that I am running CIM for the adventure and love of running! Not every race has to be a PR.

Also, I hope Skye’s letter persuades T. Swift to give your family some concert tickets :)

I’m buying these mittens! What size do you have if they are Mens/Unisex? Thank-you!!!

Reply

I’m a child of the 70s, so Do they know it’s Christmas for sure, but well, because of today, Fleetwood Mac’s As Long as you Follow…..yes, John Lennon’s death 42 years ago next week was a shock, but Christine McVie….pretty harsh

I am going to see Taylor with my girls. But they are 20 and 17 and bought their own tickets. In my opinion kids under about 13 are too young to appreciate such a concert. Also it is extremely expensive. My kids only go to concerts sparingly, and have always bought tickets with their own money.

I want to order the mittens too. What size do you wear?
