Tuesday Tangents!

(shirt, shorts, shoes, socks, headband)

8.39 miles @ 9:59 average on the trails, and then it was straight into kid things for the day…

Let’s get chatting about some tangents.

*Best race swag ever. I use these gloves so much each year, and I think it’s brilliant to give them out in your race bag. I see other runners wearing them around here all year round too.

*We have very different perceptions of temperature.
*The wagon is so great for races. They aren’t fans of strollers anymore (they think they are too mature for them), but the wagon is fun.
*Some girls were wearing the Asics speed shoes and talking about how much they love them. I’m having a hard time finding exactly which ones they are. Can anyone tell me? I want to try them out.

*I’ve got a case of tendonitis. I fell off an e-bike and landed on this arm a bit ago. It hurt when it happened, but the pain worsened, and my arm was very swollen. I had an x-ray, and thankfully it isn’t broken, but I’ll be wearing this brace as much as possible to help eliminate the pain. It doesn’t hurt at all when running, which is also lucky. This has made me realize that even though I am left-handed, I use my right hand for EVERYTHING else.

*This bread for french toast is too good.

*Did you know that when responding to comments, I usually look over the reply when I am finished and take out a few of the !!!!.  I’m just so excited as I’m typing, and I can’t help myself, but I worry it comes across like I am yelling, ha.

*Good luck to everyone running the New York City Marathon this weekend. I have major FOMO and want to hear about it afterward. You can read my recap from 2011 HERE!

November 3rd anniversary here, and lots of November family birthdays (my mom, stepmom, two of my brothers, and some nieces and nephews). it’s always a whirlwind month. Also, two November 5Ks- a Light the Way 5K during our Christmas light festival the weekend before Thanksgiving, and a 5K Turkey Trot the evening before Thanksgiving. Can’t wait to cooler running temps here! Happy Tuesday, Janae!

Happy anniversary in two days! And such a fun month of birthdays… good luck haha. Both of those 5ks sound so fun, enjoy! I am so with you…I am obsessed with these colder temps. Running feels so much better. I hope you have a great day too. Thanks Emily!

November birthday! Love the fall colors we’re getting this month.

That’s too bad you fell off an ebike. Were you on the road or trails? Same thing happened to my husband last month (rental ebike on trails) and he got huge scrapes and a tiny elbow fracture, but fortunately it seemed to be minor enough to heal on its own. We’re going with the whole “scars are proof of adventure” concept. Hope you heal up fully soon!

YES, the colors are unreal this month! I was on the roads. Ahhh your poor husband but I’m glad it is able to heal on it’s own. Amen to that, all of the adventure is worth some of those scars. I hope your day is a beautiful one, Liz!

Your costumes were all so great! And it looked like you had a great time. We made it home from the airport just in time to start handing out Halloween candy. Although I missed having our big chili dinner, it was actually really fun to hang out on the porch, see all the kids, costumes, dogs… My son has to run to the store to get more candy a little after 7, then we were officially out by 8:30. Our neighborhood does holidays well!
Oh tendonitis! Remember back in 2020 when I had Achilles tendonitis in both Achilles!? That was the worst. I didn’t run for almost a month, and didn’t even walk too much. Luckily you are still able to do most things.
I also am having major FOMO for everyone running NY. I have been doing the Peloton series with Ashton Kutcher, who has been training for NY, which has been awesome. It is definitely on my list to do!
I hope you all have recovered from all the Halloween fun! Have a great day Janae 😊

Thank you, Wendy! I am so glad you got back in time to hand out candy and see everyone. Sometimes things just work out perfectly like that. Oh I remember that, that must have been so painful… and in BOTH! I cannot wait to see how Ashton does. So exciting and I might need a week to recover from Halloween ha.

You have not had good luck with NYC! I am hoping that somehow the temperatures cool down for Saturday and you have the race of your life!

I’m glad it’s just tendinitis Janae! FWIW I broke my elbow and while I was cleared to run soon after, I was really favoring the non injured side when I started back. But waaaay better than breaking a wrist- that’s tough cause you can’t drive! I spent some time with my chiro to straighten everything out …
I’m having major NYCM fomo as well.
We went to a fun Halloween block party !
I’m running CIM so not a November thing but a December thing.
Take care!

SUCH a good idea to see your chiro, I’ll go in to Dr. B to help my arm out. I am so glad it isn’t broken and how did you break your elbow??? That sounds painful. So glad you had a fun block party and I cannot wait to hear about what you do at CIM! Thanks Kate!

Fell trail running ,on my hand- very common! I know you have a good chiro so an adjustment never hurts if you start to feel “off”. Have a great day!

Looking at the photo of you in your costume with Beck-could you imagine such a beautiful sight in the midst of your divorce??
I have Indy on Saturday. I wish NYC was before Indy because it is so inspirational to run after watching a marathon. I’ll have to just get swept up in NYC excitement!!!

Well, you just gave me goosebumps and made my ears tear up. I would have never believed it. Thanks for reminding me of this, Molly.

I am SO thrilled for you to run Indy! You have trained so hard and you are going to have the perfect day. Watching NYC with some cookies in bed after rocking your marathon= perfection. ENJOY!

NYC bound Thursday morning at 6 AM! Feeling ALL THE FEELS right now. Had a 3 mile run this morning and one more Thursday morning. Been watching the weather and Oh My, I may need to change from capris to shorts! The low Saturday night is predicted to be 60* with a high of 73* so much for cool NE fall running LOL But they are calling for partly cloudy, so that will be perfect.
Have an amazing week, friend!

I AM CHEERING SO LOUD FOR YOU! You are so ready for this and yes, whip out those shorts. I am hoping you get all of the clouds and have the race of your life. I would LOVE to hear about how it goes. Have a beautiful day and happy tapering and carb loading!

Hi Janae! The kids costumes all look great!!
It rained heavily last night so we didn’t have that many trick or treaters! But I always enjoy seeing the little ones in their costumes, they are so cute.
I’ve had tendonitis in my knee and in my ankle before! It’s horrible cuz it reminds you all the time. I hope you get over yours soon!

Bummer about the rain! I’m glad you still got to see some of the littles. Oh I can’t imagine ti in my knee and ankle… ouch! Thank you, me too!

No races on the calendar yet, though I’m excited to watch the NYC marathon on tv on Sunday. I love watching them, both in person and on tv. No better source of motivation. I’m working on rebuilding my base after a phase of repeated sickness. Rebuilding is always hard when seemingly feeling like you’re starting over from almost nothing. It makes me empathize with those who say they dislike running. The first 4-6 weeks are rough, where every run feels like you’re dying. But thankfully experience tells me that it gets better.

Your Halloween costume was great. I bought an adult trex outfit to embarass my kids with. Except Amazon failed and never delivered it. 🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♀️ So I guess it’ll be a Halloween week because I’m not waiting a year to use it. Ha!

We have a local race that also gives gloves as swag and it’s the best!!! They are my go to running gloves for sure.

It’s hard to believe it’s already November! We have our 22nd wedding anniversary on November 25th. We got married when I was 20 and he was just 21 by a few days!

Our town did trick-or-treating on Saturday night so yesterday didn’t really feel like Halloween. We are having unusual warm weather so that’s been nice – in the 70s all week.

Oof, I’ve dealt with tendonitis since I was 15 because I play the violin and it’s usually associated with repetitive movements. Such a bummer, I’m SO sorry. I still deal with it occasionally to this day, and it’s so annoying, so I feel your pain with the brace too. Physical therapy has helped (I recommend Bushnell physical therapy in Utah county!) and so. much. ice! Or heat occasionally. Good luck, I’m wishing you the speediest recovery! Such a pain to deal with since you use your hands for almost everything day-to-day!

Hi Janae,

The Asics the girls are wearing are the Asics Metaspeed Sky! Haven’t tried them, but just wanted to help you out. Have a wonderful day!

Great Halloween Pictures! Our anniversary is November 7th, hoping the weather is as beautiful as the day we were married. Although, I will be getting my first colonoscopy that day (oh the joys of getting older), so we will celebrate a few days later.

I think the Asics you saw are actually men’s – my friend wears the men’s style and she has a similar pair Magic Speed 2. She loves them!
Have a great day!
