More Race Talk & Things…

(shorts, bra)

I really wanted to run but didn’t because I’m trying to be smart with recovery.

So, I sat on my Peloton for 20 minutes to get my legs moving.  I did this after Brooke went to school and it felt so weird taking her to school in non-sweaty clothing like I usually do.

A friend invited us over for breakfast.  I am going to show up at her house every morning now.

We had Mindy’s French Dip Sandwiches for dinner, which were amazing.  I have found my problem with cooking… I don’t like thinking about WHAT to cook.  If my family tells me what they want to eat, making it is the easy part for me.  Andrew requested these:

I have so many things to tell you today:

*I saw this on Keira’s Instagram.  PR or ER.  WE ARE ALL CRAZY,  but I relate;)

IMG 8313

*Nothing.  After my marathon last weekend, nothing could have tasted better than McDonald’s French fries.  I am embarrassed to admit how many packets of salt I poured all over them.  Nothing has ever tasted so good.

*Two car ride trip tricks that work for Beck (the other three are happy with snacks, movies, and books). 1) We give Beck Andrew’s wallet.  He will take out his cards and put them back in for an hour straight… worth losing one of his credit cards every now and then.  2) BUBBLES.  Hold the wand up against the vent to blow the bubbles out… it transforms Beck from screaming to uncontrollable giggles within .04 seconds.

*Before we left for Big Bear, Skye and I bought some slippers/shoes online that she had been begging for, and I told her that they would arrive when we were gone.

She was completely asleep when we pulled into our driveway late Sunday night, and as soon as she opened her eyes, she asked to go to the mailbox for her slippers.  This little girl LOVES shoes.

*Skye finally trusted me that a toasted bagel with peanut butter and thinly sliced apples were the best things ever, and she now agreed.

*Subtle flex (my nieces will be so proud of me for using their lingo)—> I met Lindsay Lohan at the gym one time, and so my level of excitement for this

*I carb loaded for Big Bear on Wednesday and Thursday of last week but on Friday, my gut had other plans for me, and I just did the best I could to get in as many carbs as possible.  This is my favorite carb-loading tool.

Totally normal to carry a loaf of bread around with you during the carb load.

*NeuroticMom showing us the correct way to eat a cupcake (tear the bottom off and put it on top).

*I asked Lauren to send me her favorite things to think about during a marathon, and she delivered.  These all helped me SO much during my race, and I hope they help you too.

Along with this page from Deena.  It all helped my mental game so much during the race.  I love a good pep talk.

Any random things to tell me??

Any movies you are looking forward to watching?

Those of you celebrating Thanksgiving, what are your plans this year?  Any turkey trots?

I 100% agree with the idea that choosing dinner is way harder than making dinner. I think it’s because we make so many decisions throughout the day that by the time dinner rolls around, we are too exhausted to think about it. My husband has learned that nothing annoys me more than him saying, “I don’t know, you pick.” when I ask him for dinner ideas. :) Oh, my guilty pleasure is Hallmark Christmas movies. They are so cheesy but so fun; sometimes I need to just switch off my brain and watch some Christmas fluff. I am doing a Turkey Trot the evening before Thanksgiving! Happy Wednesday, Janae!

You figured it out! I just can’t handle one more decision by that time of day ha. I fully agree with you… that annoys me so much too. I can’t wait for the Hallmark movies too. What a great idea to have the turkey trot the night before. Good luck! Have a beautiful day, Emily.

Hey I have a question but unrelated to core power haha I was wondering what your resting HR is at an avid runner. I know mine is naturally lower bc of running and training but I also know different things can affect HR and was wondering if you have a similar experience or if you resting HR has shifted a lot over your years of running and your struggle with disordered eating in your past at all?

Instead of giving him Andrew’s wallet – create one of his own. You can fill it with blank gift cards (either used up or just grab a few from a store) and then you aren’t stressed when he loses it.

Such a good idea! Doing this today. Thanks, Tamara! Have a great day.

For years I have always told my students (I teach math) that work was mandatory but suffering was optional, it’s all about mindset. I am not sure how much they appreciate it but I always think about that when things are hard. Also I heard a youtuber I love say hard does not equal bad and I love that one too.

I am looking forward to all the cheesy Christmas movies, my kids kinda like them now and I love it!

We are staying home and having Thanksgiving with my family, I am excited for fall break and seeing our friends during the week. Do your kids have the entire week off like we do?

I love that you tell your students this… teaching them math and life lessons along the way. You are amazing and I am sharing that with my kids too. Keep me updated with what cheesy Christmas movies you are watching. So happy you have the week off with your family, you deserve it. We just have school on Monday and Tuesday, I wish we had those off! I need you to email me what part of Colorado you are in! Happy Wednesday, Beth!

I love all of those little pep talks/mantras. So good!
And yes! Deciding what to make for dinner is absolutely the hardest part. If someone tells me what to make, no problem! And now I am craving french dip sandwiches.
I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving. Having my boys home, and our oldest’s girlfriend, makes me so happy. We’ll be with my husband’s side of the family, which is typical, and so much fun. Great food, lots of laughs. And I am totally going to soak in all of the family time!
There is a new Christmas movie coming out on Apple TV, with Ryan Reynolds and Will Farrell, that looks hilarious. We don’t have Apple TV, so we’ll have to figure out how to watch it.
Oh my goodness… It is super windy for the next few days, Santa Ana winds, so running will be interesting. Ha ha… Resistance training.
Have a great day Janae 😊

I hope you make the french dip sandwiches soon, they were so good. I am SO excited for your Thanksgiving, enjoy every second of it. I saw that movie pop up, I can’t wait to watch it! You can do 3 months for free of Apple TV! Good luck with the wind! Thanks Wendy!

Heck yes to that ER or PR postl. That’s hysterical. I have to ask where you got the slipper shoes for you and Skye. They are so cute and look so comfortable! I work from home now and am all over the comfy clothes and shoes–really just cozy bottoms and shoes because I’m still waist up on zooms. :)
Enjoy your recovery. You have CRUSHED it lately. Such fun to watch.

YAY!! It is my #1 favorite running book. Good luck to your group and are you running CIM too? Happy Wednesday, Therese.

no CIM for me. I did Chicago and one a year is enough for me.

Congrats on Chicago! One marathon a year is the smart thing to do!

I too want someone to tell me what to do make for dinner!! Mental fatigue can’t come up with any ideas.

This is our problem!! I don’t care what I eat, just someone tell me what to eat ha. I’ll send you what Andrew requests each week haha. I hope your day is a great one, Mary!

Hi Janae! I’ve been wanting to watch that Lindsay Lohan movie too! I am really hoping she makes a comeback! Random thing is you recommended a book a while back, the power of fun, and I just started it!
Happy Wednesday!

I am too… would love to see her in more. Okay, that is so funny because I just started rereading parts. Let me know what you think. I hope you have a beautiful day, Amy!

I love all of the Christmas movies too. Hallmark allows my brain to just be beep. I watch all the Harry Potter movies every year about this time. I look forward to it. It takes me a few weeks or so to get through all of them.

Yes to dinner decisions being hard. I agree. At the end of the day my brain just wants to beep after all the decisions. 🤣🤷‍♀️

We are going to do a Turkey Trot with my local running club. Not an actual race, but the club meets and runs and then we eat after. It’s fun!

This is random but I was super crabby yesterday and as soon as the other half got through the door I went for a quick run. It was basically dark at 4:30pm but somehow the run made me feel better. Lol.

The breakfast at your friends looks amazing!

Happy Wed Janae!

an awesome read…loved watching her in the spirit of the marathon….
and yeah, she’s mortal like us….I’m struggling with a couple of angry knees, and my physio says to strengthen my core to fix that…..and, well, it Christmas, who has time…but also, being really old, I have to, now….there’s really nothing I can wait to do, have to do that now!
Movie?….I’m still trying to watch the game of thrones prequel….Hope it gets better soon

You definitely need to watch that movie! We just watched it the other day and it is so cute! Of course, I love Christmas movies. Plus, ever since we started November it’s been so cold and snowy. Winter is already here so bring on all the holiday movies! Have a wonderful day!

Lindsay at Pinch of Yum does a meal plan every so often where she sends you the menu for the week, recipes, grocery lists and steps on what you can make ahead of time. It’s pretty inexpensive and fills in that “what to have for dinner” blank.

One friend had the same meal rotation every week, based on what her family’s favorites were – so Mondays were burgers, Tuesday tacos, Wednesday pasta, etc. She would change things up (like Mondays could be veggie burgers, turkey burgers, salmon burgers, etc so it didn’t get too repetitive) but she always knew the general thing she’d be making each night.

I’m with you Skye on the shoe thing ;)

PR or ER? That is BS. Horribly bad advice. People can die running full marathons. That’s 26.2 miles for the mathematically challenged. Or the thousands of cheaters.

That’s nice It’s really great article thanks for sharing this awesome article.

Thanks for sharing! How long do you take off of running after a marathon? Also, how long do you wait to cross train?
Thanks!
