Friday Favorites + Placebo is not just your feelings…

My view from the Peloton. I’m nowhere near my PR output but if you are and you want a new PR, check out my post HERE.

Neon dress-up day is easy when your mom is a runner.

The hardest part of Beck’s day is when the kids leave for school. He is counting down the minutes until preschool starts for him.
Just a normal day for us.

The most delicious part of the day was this braided bread (it’s in my list of favorite recipes).

I have some favorite things to talk about today:

*I have loved this velvet travel jewelry case for a while now! I take it with me every time I travel and I keep my favorites in it at home too. It is also on Oprah’s Favorite Things list this year and it is the perfect gift!

*My watch. Don’t mind how dirty it is… After the marathon, I took this picture on the drive back to the cabin. I love this watch for a million reasons and have a full review of it here, but this was my first time using the music on it. I didn’t want to bring my phone, but I knew I wanted music, so it was the perfect solution. I just popped in my AirPods and started my playlist (yes, I named it Big Bear 2:39 before the race;). It was too easy.

*Here is my playlist from the race… I could have probably listened to ‘You’re on your own kid’ on repeat for the entire marathon. I love that song too much.
*My coach’s advice for every race. It works every time for me.
*PR Lotion. Maybe there is something in there that actually helps us PR; maybe it is just Bath and Body lotion in a black bottle. Either way, I’ll use it because that placebo effect is REALLLLLL for me. During the Armchair Expert’s interview with Layne Norton, he says, “Placebo is not just feelings. Placebo will actually change your physiology. It has, in some cases it has a similar effect as some pharmaceutical drugs.” Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.

Have a song that you could listen to on repeat lately?

What are your weekend plans?

Any placebo effect things that help you with your running?

Listen to music during races? The whole time or parts?

I am definitely going to have to try that lotion. Placebo affect can trick your mind for sure!
Nothing huge happening here this weekend. Just cleaning the house and patio, and getting everything ready for the boys to be home. I’m so excited.
Our oldest’s football team is playing in the 1st round of the NCAA division 3 playoffs on Saturday morning, so we’re definitely watching the game!!
Heading out for the early Friday morning run with friends 😊. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve done this, so I cannot wait. There’s so much to catch up on, ha.
Have a great Friday Janae.

Let me know what you think of the lotion! You are going to have the best week with your boys. Congrats to your son, that is HUGE! Hope your run with friends was a great one. I want to come one of these Fridays.

Umm, I think your coach stole that marathon advice from Pam Beasley. That was her plan for the Michael Scott’s Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Fun Run Pro Am Race for the Cure 5K.
Also-I just bought a Peloton. Like today! Time to figure out how to use it!

BAHAHAH I guess he did. That is hilarious. Let me know what you think of the Peloton, I have a feeling you are going to be hooked and you’ll have to tell me who your favorite instructors are. Happy weekend, Molly! I hope you have this weekend off!

We are decorating for Christmas this weekend (I know it’s too early but we are busy the weekend after Thanksgiving so I want to get it done).

We *might* go up to go skiing this weekend too, depends on the roads I think.

I am loving Taylors new album, and for running I love anything that is upbeat and quick. I think music is the biggest thing for me, if I am listening to a podcast out on a long run and feeling low energy a good song can turn it all around.

I hope you’re doing something fun!

I don’t think it is too early, it’s just perfect! Where are you going to go skiing… I hope you get to go! It really is amazing what music can do for our mood. Thanks Beth, happy weekend!

I love “You’re On Your Own, Kid”! But the one from Midnights that I’ve had on repeat is “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve”. I’m obsessed with it.

I listen to music during races 100% of the time. For me I like running to songs I love, even if they don’t have the fastest beat…ya know?

I’m definitely gonna buy that travel jewelry case!

Off to go turn that song on, I seriously cannot believe how good this album is. I totally do get what you mean, if a song means something to me then it pushes me. I hope you love the case, I use it all of the time. Happy weekend, Anna!

I’m off this weekend so I’m planning to watch season 3 of dead to me, I want to decorate for Christmas and do some shopping. If you have any Christmas ideas for Brooke to share that would be so helpful. My daughters 9 and hasn’t really been asking for too much this year.

I always listen to music during runs/races. In fact, I always have music on when I’m cleaning, cooking etc haha

Have a great day!!

WE LOVE THAT SHOW… Now I know what I am going to do this weekend. I have a gift guide going up soon with all of my ideas! I’m with you on that, I have music or a podcast on when I’m doing those things too… especially laundry. Thanks friend, you too!

So awesome your watch plays music like that! My go to song for finishing my hard workouts is “Lose Yourself” by Eminem! lol that beat always gets me to finish really strong. Also, definitely tempted on getting that PR lotion!!

I should have added that song to my list… I will now. Eminem just helps us run faster. Let me know if you try the lotion and I hope your day is off to a great start, Jacquie!

I’m stuck on Whitney Houston right now after hearing one of her songs in a peloton bike workout this week! Cannot get “My Love is Your Love” out of my head.

Weekend plans- running with a friend in the morning, going to a winery with friends tomorrow, and flying home Sunday for Thanksgiving! Have a great weekend!

Hi Janae! I think seeing the course photographer helps my form straighten out a bit ;) seeing cute dogs helps too!
We are going on vacation next week so now’s the time we take inventory of the fridge and carefully plan to finish our food!
Have an awesome day!

We are doing the same with our fridge… I’m trying to see if I can avoid going to the grocery store! Haha they do for me too! Thanks Amy, I hope your weekend is a beautiful one:)

That Brooks jacket on Brooke is the most versatile thing on the planet! Glad she can also embrace it’s bright glory (I have the same jacket and love it.)

I don’t typically listen to music when running. But, when I was going through a scary divorce I would occasionally (once a month or longer)run with music so I could distract myself from overthinking/worrying/etc. When I hear certain songs from that playlist it kind of takes me right back to those running routes. In 2019 at NYC marathon I tried Aftershokz and it was a game changer. I went from listening to music a few times a year to a few times a week! haha. Our puppy chewed on them a few months ago so am back to sans music, but would have no qualms replacing them and using them on some runs.

Isn’t that jacket the best?! I am so sorry about what you went through and I’m grateful you had running during that time. I so relate with you on how the music helped take your mind off of everything going on during that time. Aftershokz are the best and I hope you get some soon. Have a beautiful day, Kelly!
