My recovery plan?!

When am I going to run again?

Whenever my hamstring feels 110%, there is zero rush to get back out there, and the best thing I can do for my running is to wait to run again once my hamstring is healed.  It was in rough shape after the marathon, but it’s already improving, and I’ll continue to keep waiting patiently.

The weather is too perfect, and the trails are too gorgeous to avoid getting on the trails for some hiking though…

Luckily, walking/hiking doesn’t hurt because I am wired to NEED fresh air and nature every day of my life.

I’ll probably start adding some yoga and strength now, followed by maybe a Peloton ride or something in a few days.  But as of right now, I’m thoroughly enjoying having so much energy to keep up with the kids.  I’ve gone back to 7-8 hours of sleep at night and no naps = I feel like I have so much more time, ha.  It is crazy to me how much more rest I need with marathon training.

Now to catch up on the rest of life…

Our neighbor across the street’s skeletons are at war with our skeletons now.

*The space heater comes around the house with me in the mornings; it is chilly (and Brooke thinks I am crazy).

*We have been eating SO much good food.

*We have all decided Maria Bonita’s is our favorite restaurant in the area now.

*I’m officially part of a book club now.  Lessons in Chemistry for October and next month will be The It Girl!

*So much good food this week.

*There isn’t a Wednesday Workout today, and it feels strange but also very nice because this pain is still in my memory;)

Who is in a book club? Who has a book they love right now or that you’ve recently read?

Does anyone listen to audiobooks?

Does anyone else have a hot spot they are trying to get back to 100% right now?

Are the mornings chilly where you are at?

Hey Janae! Congrats on your marathon and glad you are enjoying some recovery time :) Your weather right now looks amazing! I love audiobooks especially when doing laundry or other chores. I just finished Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan. It was super cute! Have a great day!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Seriously, how did we do laundry before audiobooks and podcasts? They make it so much more enjoyable for me! I will add that one to my list. Hope your day is off to a great start!

The girls on my mom’s side of the family have a book club! One of my favorites that we recently read was “West with Giraffes” by Lynda Rutledge. Yes mornings are chilly here now! I’m kind of happy about it, kind of not haha

I LOVE that you guys have a book club together. I’ll have to check that one up, thank you so much for sharing. Seriously, it’s fun but I’m not sure I’m truly ready for this kind of weather! Hope your day is a beautiful one!

Book club – my group picks a different restaurant to meet at every 6-8 weeks. Recently read ‘You’re Invited’ (Amanda Jayatissa), ‘In Another Time’ (Caroline Leech) [audiobook – I liked their accents] & ‘The Woman in the Library’ (Sulari Gentill) and would recommend them all! As for our weather, it’s 35* in the morning and 70* by late afternoon… Welcome to northern Michigan!

I just read Lessons in Chemistry and LOVED it! Quirky, but a great story about strong, independent women. You’ve given us glimpses, but would love to see your full outdoor Halloween setup. Especially now that the neighbor’s skeletons are waging war, haha.

I LOVED it so much too. Let’s have an online discussion about it. I was not happy about Calvin so early on though…
I need to find a way to show off more without showing our house! I’ll have andrew put together a slide show ha. He is so proud! Have the best day, Nikki!

I love that… we are going to continue doing the restaurant thing too. I love that no one feels like they have to host and we just get to kick back at a restaurant. I will have to add those ones to our list. Thank you for sharing and keep me updated with what you guys are reading. WOW, those temperatures are extreme! Have a beautiful day, Jodi!

Oh my gosh, that pineapple drink concoction looks amazing! And Brooke’s eyes, ha ha. What in the world is it?
I’m in a book club with about 7 neighbors. We started it during the pandemic shut down. It’s a bit different, but we all enjoy it. At the beginning of the month, we each start our own book (so everyone is reading something different). We’re encouraged to write comments in the book as we’re reading, then our final thoughts at the end. Then we pass the book on to the next person. So at the end of the 8 month cycle, we’ve all read the 8 different books. Then after the cycle, we get together for food and to talk about the books. It’s really so much fun. We call it our Traveling Book Club 😊
Thank goodness it is cooling down at night so the mornings feel nice. But we’re still quite warm during the day. We’re heading back to Colorado tomorrow for my husband’s birthday! 3 weekends out of 4 where I’m in Colorado. Love it!
Keep enjoying all the recovery time, and have a great non workout Wednesday!

It was a pina colada… so heavenly. I love that you have a book club with your neighbors. I am already looking forward to our next. I love that you guys write comments in the book and pass it on. What a beautiful idea. I’ve never heard of this type of book club but I’m obsessed now. Enjoy those cooler evenings and another Colorado trip… wahooo! Happy birthday to your husband!

– No book club here, I wouldn’t mind being in one, but honestly don’t really have time.
– I LOVE audiobooks, it is the only way I “read” right now. I listen to them at work and while I run go through 3-5 books a week.
– Still working through a piriformis/hamstring/IT band issue that has been ongoing for the last year and also getting back to normal from my foot surgery at the beginning of the year. Its been a weird running year, but I have just accepted what my body has allowed and created a habit of cross training to supplement my lack of running.
– Mornings are COLD here now, we are right up the canyon from you, so we are consistently in the 30-low 40s right now. It makes it so hard to get out of bed for a run.

I love listening to audio books while I run…I started the habit when I was training for Wineglass marathon in 2019 and haven’t stopped since. I used to listen to music but books and/or podcasts keep me more entertained. Go figure!

What a lovely time of year for some extra “down time” you timed that well ;) Enjoy all the extras you earned it!

We have been knocked down by a terrible virus that seems to hang on and make all of us miserable, I am so sad because this is the most glorious time of year to get out in the Colorado mountains.

I am almost constantly listening to an audio book. In this phase of life I don’t find a lot of time to sit and read but I can listen while I run or after dropping the kids off somewhere and I love it. Always looking for good new books!

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is a great novel and would be a great book for a book club to discuss! I’m not in a book club, but cohost a podcast where we discuss “adventures, books and conversations – abc’s – in the Eastern Sierra mountains. It’s called Oxygen Starved if you want to check it out.

Hi Janae!! Congrats on your marathon. I love to read and Audiobooks have been my go to while running and doing errands. You’ll love Lessons in Chemistry.
Have a great recovery week.

Hi Janae! I love audiobooks! It makes a big difference too if you get a good narrator. My friends and I are reading one set in Australia by an Australian author and the narrator does an Australian accent! It makes it more enjoyable. My friends and I used to meet regularly for our book club and get sushi. We need to get back to that (at a minimum the sushi part)!
Enjoy recovery!

What in the world is that pineapple concoction?!!

Glad you are enjoying your downtime, it is well deserved. It feels chilly to me, 55 night 90 day – but I’ve turned into a CA softy. lol

The It Girl is SO GOOD!! I love Ruth Ware! Also a big fan of audiobooks. I’ve got a 2.5 year old so finding time to read is hard but I can listen to a book while I do other things.

I have a crazy drive to and from work each week day, therefore I listen to book to maintain my sanity in traffic!

Congrats on the marathon!! I’m in a book club through the local library, and it meets each month. I’ve really enjoyed the variety of books they choose. Recent great reads = Carrie Soto is Back, Remarkably Bright Creatures, Beautiful Country, Black Cake, The Maid, and The Paris Apartment. Enjoy the It Girl. I love Ruth Ware!

I liked lessons in chemistry too! Right now I am reading seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo which has been recommended by pretty much everyone. I really like it so far! It takes a lot for me to like an audiobook. I really have to be into it to not get distracted. A great audiobook was the last Mrs. Parrish. I was able to concentrate the entire time :)

it is chilly, and I love it……leaves are changing colours, our river valley looks amazing
and yeah, down time…I always remember ironman triathlete Heather Fuhr talk about that, and how it has to heal, as it heals…
today’s goal is to work on that blog, apparently I’m doing it wrong

I am almost always listening to one audio book and also reading one or two books! I walk my dog 2-3 times a day, so I typically listen to my books then.
I’m in 2 bookclubs! One through work and the other that I manage with friends. The bookclub with friends is really just a reason for us to get together once a month while also talking about the book a bit. I’m a little sad though since we are moving from Denver to St Louis, so I will have to hand off the reigns to another friend and really sad to be missing out.
We are definitely having chilly mornings and night with the days being nice and sunny. It’s been great perfect fall weather! Perfect for running at any point in the day!

I love the picture of your book club. Just wondering — do you have to have long hair, parted in the middle, to be in the club? HAHA If so, I could be a member too! I have that book on my wait list!
