(shoes, shorts, tank)

When someone gives you donuts during your Monday morning run, you know it will be a good day. 8 miles @ 8:34 average.

Breakfast burritos made an appearance in the morning too.

The oldest three kids dropped off, and then we went out for errands.
He is always gravitating toward anything related to his favorite holiday.
While we were out, we got this nail taken out of my tire!
The day ended with night games and ice cream cones with the neighbors!

Let’s get chatting about tangents:

*The mileage may be dropping in the taper, but the calories do not (in my opinion)—so many PB & j sandwiches every day. Lauren and I felt like we had put on a lb or 2 or 3 during our taper before Boston, and that PAID off on race day because we had the energy to fly.

*My dietician friend (that has OTQed and ran in the Olympic Trials) says glucose is glucose and if you are out of gels and want to take some fruit snacks or candy with you to fuel… it’s all good.

*Wore my friend’s new Garmin 955, which is as light as possible. It is a touchscreen but also has buttons and all extras. If you want a light watch, this one is way lighter than the Fenix 6s Pro that I have.

*I’m done buying toys for Beck. None of them hold his attention for longer than a second these days, and the only thing he is interested in doing if we need him to sit is go through my wallet and throw each card as far as he can.

*I’m not going to walk on gravel in my Nikes… I save every step for speed miles;).

*My Halloween costume arrived. My kids love to see these things outside of stores, so I decided I would dress up as one.

*My St. George splits from 2019… my goal is to run each of these miles 12 seconds faster. It’s a downhill course, but some challenging miles are thrown in there too.

Are you going to dress up for Halloween this year?

Best holiday in your opinion?

I would love to hear any stories about a big jump in your PR… I’m asking for a 5-minute course PR in 11 days!

Garmin owners–> Which one do you have, and do you love it?

I PR’d by 14 minutes last fall at age 36! It was 38 degrees at the start which I think helped to facilitate that. Your workouts have been bananas I think you can do it!

I really want the 955 music! Trying to wait to see if garmin has any Black Friday sales 😒

14 minute PR! You. Are. Amazing. I’m so impressed by that! Oh I hope they have some great Black Friday deals! Have you ever heard of Als before? It’s our sporting good store and they always have huge sales! I’ll check for you there too! Have a beautiful day, Sara!

I had a 17 minute PR in the marathon once I started to work with a coach. Such a game changer.
You WILL run each mile 12 seconds faster! You ARE a 2:44 marathoner!!

Reply

17 minute pr! Molly, that is HUGE! Having a coach truly does make the biggest difference in our times. Thank you…. I’m going to repeat your last sentence to myself over and over again today!

Planning to dress up, but still need to figure out what! Thinking retro skiers?? :)
I love Christmas and I think I love that it’s just a cozy time and I’m usually lucky enough to get a number of days off to just wear PJs all day and lounge with family. So peaceful!!!

I love the retro skier idea and perfect for if Halloween is chilly! The coziness of Christmas truly is the best. So nice to get a break to be home. Happy Tuesday, Courtney!

I love Halloween and all autumn holidays! This year, I’m dressing up as Wanda Maximoff from WandaVision – the casual 2000s sitcom version of Wanda, where she wore a burgundy hoodie with blue and white stripes on the sleeves. It’s a very specific and random costume, but Marvel fans will probably get the reference, I hope.

I had a big PR jump on Sept. 11 at the Erie Marathon … I finally BQ’d with a 3:42:48! I registered for the 2023 Boston Marathon last week, and now I’m waiting to hear if my qualifying time is actually enough to get in. Hopefully a 7:12 cushion will be enough!

I’ve been a “casual” marathon runner for 20 years, but I decided to get serious about a BQ at the beginning of 2022. My BQ time is 3:50, according to my age/gender. My first official try for a BQ was in February 2022 at the Wilmington Marathon, and I ran a 3:55. My second try was in April 2022 at the Glass City Marathon in Toledo, Ohio, and I ran another 3:55. At that point, I got really, really serious and signed up for the Erie Marathon. I used the Pfitzinger 18/55 plan and trained my heart out all summer. And I finally did it at Erie! I have such intense feelings of gratitude for everyone who helped me get to this point (my friends and family were truly rooting for me, and it was so humbling) and I also want to thank YOU for being a source of positivity and inspiration!

You are going to fly at St. George!! i will be cheering for you from Ohio!!

I MUST get a picture of your costume this year. It sounds amazing! Sarah, hugest congrats on your BQ 9 days ago. That is AMAZING and I really want to meet you in Boston ahhhh. Let me know as soon as you know! I’m sure that is a big enough cushion! I have goosebumps reading about your journey to your BQ. You did it. I’m so so happy for you. Thank you, that sure means a lot! Have a beautiful day and happy recovering!

I love that Halloween costume; it’s too funny! :) I am going as Max from Where the Wild Things Are. My students are very excited to see me in costume at school!

You sound like the best teacher. I LOVE Max and I love that book. Happy Tuesday, Emily!

I had a 26 min PR between my first and second marathons. My first marathon was Chicago and it was 85 degrees. My second was NYC the next November which was much cooler. I don’t think I realized during my first marathon how tough the heat was making it.

I’m hoping for new PR at the Steamtown Marathon on October 9. My goal is to break 3:30 and my current PR is 3:31, so it doesn’t need to be a big PR to meet that goal. I’m secretly hoping for sub 3:25 but I’ve been dealing with an on and off IT band issue the past month or so. It was feeling better and felt good for my 20 miler this weekend but it really flared up this morning doing speed work at the track. So who knows what will happen.

2:44 is so amazing! You have worked so hard and you can do it!

Reply

TWENTY SIX MINUTE PR (which is so cool because that means a MINUTE per mile faster. And to PR at NYC, that is truly amazing. I cannot wait for your low 3:20s. You can and you will. Praying your IT band is so happy on 10/9. Keep me updated on it all. YOU’VE GOT THIS!

Favorite holiday..or season is Christmas. My PR and course pr is Boston. I ran 11 minutes faster the 2nd year but I suspect that may be due to the fact I hac a shorter building blocks and was coming off I jury the first year.

I have the sunnto 9 peak. I was able to get a generous discount so that made it worth it. Wil let you know how I like it. Just got it onto my hands yesterday.

Happy tapering janae !!

Christmas season is my favorite too… nothing like it. 11 minutes faster at Boston! That is incredible. Yes, keep me updated on what you think about it. I’m so excited about this! Thanks Kristine, I don’t feel the taper crazies yet so things are going well:).

I never dress up for Halloween. This year we’ll be in Tennessee celebrating my in-law’s birthdays – Pops turns 90 on 10/30 and mom turns 85 on 11/6!

I really love Christmas, but there’s something truly special about Thanksgiving. It’s always been the holiday with the most extended family together.

I had a 7 minute PR on my 4th marathon, 3 1/2 years after my first. The course was a major net downhill and my legs just love that.

Reply

Happiest birthdays to your parents! Those are big years for them and I hope you guys have the best time celebrating. I hope you guys have a great time celebrating Thanksgiving too. Seven minute PR… that is HUGE! I’m a big fan of those net downhill courses too. Hope your day is a beautiful one!

Hi Janae! I have the Garmin forerunner 935 and I like it better than my husband’s Fenix! It’s lightweight and just has the basics. I don’t know if I could handle a touchscreen!
We are still deciding on costumes! But we have one picked out already for the cat.
Have a great day! I believe in your upcoming PR!

I am SO happy you love the 935! I have heard great things about it. I’m not sure how I feel about the touchscreen either but my friend loves having the option of either the screen or the buttons. What is your cat going to be?! THANK YOU, AMY!

I’m getting so excited to read about this race!!! I have a good feeling :)

Still need to pick out costumes, thanks for the reminder! Have a great Tuesday Janae.

That means SO much. Thank you, Julie! Let me know what you decide on for Halloween and I hope your Tuesday is a great one too.

My first marathon was 4:50 and my second was 4:07!
I attribute this to finding a group of running friends who helped to push me out of my comfort zone and learning how to fuel properly to avoid hitting a wall.
I’m training for my 4th marathon now and although I don’t expect a PR, I do plan to have the most fun running NYC!

Reply

WOW. Carol, that is a 43-minute PR. Absolutely AMAZING! Having a group of amazing running friends truly does make the biggest difference. I am so so excited for you to run NYC. It is the absolute best. I want to see pics after. Have a wonderful day!

I was listening to Dr. Stacy Sims on Lindsey Hein’s podcast recently, and she said that candy is actually a better fueling source for women than traditional gels. Thanks to you, I now also fuel with candy – Swedish fish is my fuel of choice!

Reply

OH MY GOODNESS! I listened to that yesterday too and LOVED that part. So so interesting. I need to listen to that episode again because there were so many things I wanted to write down. Enjoy those swedish fish! Have a beautiful day, Kristina!

Awesome Halloween costume!!
I’m not dressing up this year, and it seems strange. But, for a very good reason!! We’ll be out in Chicago for senior day and football family weekend for our oldest. We actually fly home on Halloween. And sadly, I won’t be hosting the neighbors and friends for our annual pre-trick-or-treat chili dinner. That seems really weird.
Beck is looking like one of the big kids these days! I love that he has to be included in everything all the kids are doing.
Have a good day Janae 😊

Reply

Thank you, I am really excited for the kids to think I look cool;). SO happy you will be in Chicago! And how is he already a senior, I swear that went by way too fast. I bet you are so looking forward to that time together. Thanks Wendy, have the best Tuesday!

I love my Garmn 945…switching between sports is so simple, i used to be a Polar fan, my bike computer still is, but Garmins I find are so easy and user friendly
fave holiday? My birthday, January 1st!…but, Thanksgiving, because, well, food, and the weather’s usually perfect for a run, walk, bike day
today’s a dead tired day…so rest and recovery, and yeah, blog?

I feel like you should compile a photo book with all of the pictures you have of Andrew buying Halloween decorations, and then include all the receipts too – it’d make a great gift, haha! ;) Best holiday is my birthday of course! SO excited for you at St. George this year. I need to come spectate!

Reply

Your gravel picture made me wince! I have (self-diagnosed) metatarsalgia so I haven’t been able to walk barefoot for over a month, and especially not on gravel! Hopefully it will feel ok for my trail race this weekend, fingers crossed!

I don’t comment often but had to because I had the MOST AMAZING donut ever yesterday. It was the old-fashioned at Sedonuts in Sedona AZ. No idea if you will ever be out there but if so – wow. It tasted like funnel cake and was soooooo good.

Reply

You are going to do great things, I can feel it! Let’s just put an OTQ out there in the universe ;)

We are dressing up as Super Mario characters this year because my 6 year old loves it. It’s not my favorite theme ever but he loves it so that makes me happy.

Christmas is my favorite holiday but just slightly more than Halloween.

Reply

I always dress up, but I can’t decide on one yet for this year! Halloween is my favorite holiday, too. No pressure, just costumes, scary decorations, scary movies, candy corn, perfect weather…………….I LOVE IT!

I have been using the garmin 245 music for 6 months or so and I absolutely love it! I don’t need to carry my phone and I have my music right there.

That donut looks 100000% amazing. Now I need one.
