Tuesday Tangents!

(shoes ((code FMTIB50 got me 50% off of these thanks to Elizabeth)), tank, bra, shorts)

Cutback week! I ran some miles with friends and then did chest/back and core on the Peloton app when I got home.

It’s our last week of summer, so we are packing in as much fun as possible. Knox was there too, but he had already run off with his friend:)

We met up with my cousin! If you have read my blog for a while, you will remember her because we used to spend so much time together. She now lives in Portland but is in town this week visiting.

We spent many summer days as kids at this water park eating dippin dots.

She somehow talked Brooke and me into doing way scarier slides than we usually do. My heart is still beating fast.

It was so worth pushing Beck’s nap back a few hours.
A bit later, Skye came with me to get my eyebrows tinted and waxed. Call me crazy, but I like the feeling of having my eyebrows waxed. I don’t know what is wrong with me.
And we went to the grocery store, and I successfully stuck to saying no to the 300 toys they line their shelves with…
My nieces came over for some fruit salad and counter chats.
And we finished the day off strong with another scrimmage.

Just a few tangents:

*Brooke experienced pure joy the other day. She fit into one of my lululemon tops. She was so happy.

*A scooter date to get breakfast burritos. Our scooter makes a simple thing so much more fun.
*This $10 took a lot of work for Andrew at the lake… We dropped our GoPro in the lake, and our friends bet us $10 that we wouldn’t find it again. Andrew would NOT give up, and he eventually found it on the bottom (in a shallow area). It paid for some pizza the night before my long run, and thankfully, we don’t have to buy a new GoPro;)
*I have only worn the Alphafly’s for one mile (my fastest mile on this segment) and loved them. I want to wear them for my race on Saturday, so do I save them until race day or try to get in a few miles before I wear them for the 13.1?
*Good thing sleep is free because it is my favorite recovery tool.

The worst thing you have ever lost?

Do you ever race in new shoes, or do you break them in a bunch before you race?

Do you pluck or wax your eyebrows?

Waterslides/roller coasters–> your thing or pass?

-I felt motion sickness going down every slide, but it was worth it for the adrenaline rush.

So I had to hop on her and say that my favorite cousin moved to Vancouver, just north of Portland at the end of last year. I was able to see her on a vacation with my family this past July so that was alot of fun! I love rollercoasters but waterslides scare me to death. Oh, and yes I do wax my eyebrows, and tint my lashes, since I rarely wear makeup anymore due to workouts all the time. This morning I did my first 8 mile run since my marathon the end of May. Running part went ok but the end of my run, about 1/3 a mile from home I became a “real runner”💩…it made for a miserable 7ish minutes. Anyway. Thought I would share, not sure if you have ever had that happen to you😬😫

WHY DO THEY HAVE TO MOVE… so fun that you were able to see her on vacation though. I need to try to tint my lashes, such a good idea. Welcome back to 8 milers wahoo. Hahah thank you for sharing, yes it 100% has happened to me and my running friends:). So funny how we talk about that stuff all of the time but with my non-running friends, I never talk about that kind of stuff ha. Hope your day is a great one, Jenny!

I used to get my eyebrows waxed, but I switched over to threading and I love it!! It’s definitely more painful and takes longer than waxing but since I have pretty full brows I think it looks better and more natural than waxing. If you haven’t tried it you should give it a try!

I absolutely love waterslides even though it’s been so long since I’ve been on one. Dan and I keep saying we need to go to a waterpark soon! I also love rollercoasters..basically anything that goes fast and gets your adrenaline going is a win in my book :)

I have tried it once and I absolutely LOVED it. I need to try it again and it is so fun to watch people do it! I hope that you and Dan get to a waterpark soon, they really are so fun… it just took my cousin to get me on the scary ones. Hope your day is off to a great start, Gretchen!

I would have never said coasters were my thing, but we took Hope to Disney this summer and those coasters must be just kiddie enough because I thought they had the sweet spot of thrill for me.
I also love a good eyebrow wax!

I wish that I could have brought the fam and met you guys at Disney. I bet Hope had a magical time with you and Chris. Disney coasters really are the perfect level of adrenaline for me too. Happy Tuesday, Erica!

That scooter looks like so much fun!! I’m a big believer in making errands or little trips or dates as fun as possible – playing games, doing something silly, trying something new like a scooter. It makes daily life happier.

I recall that you posted a few times that you were going to laser hair removal sessions. Did you have a good experience? I’m considering getting it done for bikini line only, but I really don’t know much about the process! Any recommendations?

I’m with you… if we can’t make the every day things fun, life just seems so blah! YES YES YES. I have had the best experience, it has saved me this summer. I did bikini too and it really saved me this summer… I used to get the worst razor burn rash. I went to Mint Facial Bar and loved the experience. It definitely zings but the pain isn’t that bad and you don’t feel anything afterward. I have one more appointment for a total of 4 and each one is about 20 minutes. I cannot recommend it enough. I did my armpits too and I never have to shave anymore in those two areas. I’ll post a video on my IG about the whole process very soon. Let me know if you have any other questions!

For some reason I can only see your reply in email and not here, but thank you! Super helpful and I’m glad it worked out for you! 20 min sessions sounds TOTALLY doable…

On our recent trip to Switzerland, we locked our bikes up on a bridge in Interlaken and as my husband was pulling the bike lock out of his frame bag he heard something clink to the ground and then fall in the river. It was his MP3 player. maybe I need to send Andrew $10 so he can search for it when you’re there next summer?

I pluck my eyebrows.

And serious question here – how do you decide who gets to drive the scooter on your dates? I feel like this could get very competitive in our household ;)

Reply

NOOOOOO! Oh that must have been frustrating ha. Hahaha I have a feeling he will be very into the idea of finding the MP3 player next summer! Seriously, cannot wait to go and you will have to give me your tips. You and your husband sound like Andrew and me. We had to put a rule in place that we switch for each one but if we are going on busier roads then I prefer to have him drive ha. But overall, I want to drive every time and so does he so maybe we need two? Hope your day is a beautiful one, Michelle!

Can you link your scooter? Now I wanna get one!

It really is so fun! Andrew wrote a bit more about it here: https://hungryrunnergirl.com/2022/07/knowing-when-it-is-right.html

FRUIT SALAD, I’m dying!!!! (Eye brow plucker here, but have you ever done the threading they do at the mall? Only did it once but it was great)

Reply

Everyone needs some fruit salad in their life;). I have had threading done and I LOVED it. It’s so fun to watch them do it at the mall! I need to try it again. Hope you are having the best day, Tess.

I have lost really meaningful pieces of jewelry, esp earrings. And I hate losing just one earring– it’s like the one that’s left is reminding me of it all the time. Break in shoes!!! I pluck my eyebrows but LOVE having them threaded (well it hurts but I think they look so much better :). I just live so far from any area with threading, that now I have to pluck! Love any ride with a major adrenaline rush! Have an awesome day, Janae!

Oh Courtney, that is so hard losing those important pieces of jewelry. I somehow always lose just one earring too and have to get rid of the one reminding me of how much I loved the pair. SO annoying… the same happens with my favorite running socks ha (much cheaper, luckily;). Threading is so much fun to watch too… I want to learn how to do it. Thanks friend and I hope you get an adrenaline rush soon!

Hi Janae! I lost my car keys running once! Sadly I was running in the fall leaves and that made it really hard to find them so I never got it back! Now I only put them in zippered pockets.
Have an awesome day!

Ugggg that must have been so frustrating! I’m with you on the zippered pockets, I’ve learned my lesson too. Hope your day is a great day, Amy!

Oh my gosh… We dropped the little lock thing for the stand up paddle board in the lake on Sunday! Way too deep in that area, so $32.95 later, we ordered a new one. Lake life, ha ha!
I love that crop tank top. I really should get a few. Especially since running in August and September out here tend to be hot and sweaty.
What do you think about the Saucony’s? I’m still searching for some good new shoes. I do still want to try some Hokas, but I used to always be a Saucony girl.
Oh, I would definitely run just a few miles in your Nikes before race day. Which race are you doing on Saturday again?
Getting a late start this morning, all our streets in the neighborhood are being replaced today through Friday, so it’s sort of a disaster. But I am heading to the gym for a Barre class followed by a fun Peloton run on the treadmill.
Have a great day Janae 😊

I would def wear the shoes for a longer run before racing a 1/2 in them. Don’t want to regret that choice at mile 7-8 of the race.
I left my wedding ring in a gym locker on our honeymoon! fortunately it was still there a few hours later. That was stressful.

My bf has those shoes and he said no need to run in them before the race and do not use for daily runs. Have a great race !

Back when my husband was my boyfriend, he gave me a pair of diamond studs for Christmas. I wore them that night when we went out on a date and ONE FELL OUT! We never found it again. I was so devastated! I still have the other one to this day in my jewelry box.

Reply

YAY! I’m so glad you were able to scoop up a pair with the code! :)
It’s so rare that I need to pluck an eyebrow hair, but I do spend time shaping them with eyebrow gel – I use Kosas Air Brow and Anastasia Strong Hold. I will absolutely wear new shoes on a race day, as long as I’ve run in the same style before. And I so rarely lose anything, the only thing I can think of losing in the past few years is a pair of sneakers – I have NO clue where they went and think I may have accidentally donated them.

What is the difference between the Alphafly’s and the Vaporflys? Haven’t you been wearing the Vaporflys all along? Which do you prefer?

Eye brow waxer here, and yes…it’s satisfying! I think it’s like when you get too much horseradish on the french dip and your eyes water a bit? I use a brow wand (it’s basically mascara for the brow) and love how easy it is and it doesn’t dye my skin. My youngest was born with freakishly perfect eyebrows and still has perfectly arched brows that aren’t full, nor slim. It’s bizarre and enviable!
