Tuesday Tangents!

(Tank, shorts, socks, shoes)

This month, my goal is all about strength which means I’ll be lifting, riding on the Peloton and doing trails whenever I can.  Our group is going to start marathon training in July so I want to go into that with a bit of running freshness and a few more muscles:)

THIS CLASS.  If you need a 45-minute PR, take it.  I was really close to hitting my pr (luckily, I am not sore from the race) and I want to take it again in the next few weeks to get a PR.  Such a good class.

I also can’t recommend this class enough.  My legs were burning by the end.  She always offers a lot of unilateral work that gets me very far out of my comfort zone.

I have many tangents to share today because we haven’t been up to much at our house since Skye has been sick…

*Andrew making me a toasted bagel with jam at 4:30 a.m. on race morning. He is really good to me.

*My nephews understand how to choose out the best racing socks.

*I met a guy that was at my expo talk and he wrote ‘arms’ on his arm to remind him of something I talked about—> focus on pumping your arms when your legs get tired.  It helps me every single time.

*A blurry photo but Beck has the pouty lips completely mastered.

*I don’t want to relive my 13.1 from Saturday but I definitely want to relive the 1k with them.

*Gotta start that Garmin even if you are just running .08 miles to the finish line to see a friend come in.

*Knox is trying to take over my OOFOS.  Nothing comfier than wearing these around the house.

*I remember when I was little I would wonder why my mom would eat so much popcorn and choose it over other treats at night.  Now I get it.  There is something about butter and salt that make it the perfect thing to snack on.

*Pretty happy to have their own camping chairs.

CREAMY peanut butter and that is a hill I will die on.

This month I’m focusing on getting at least a 20 minute walk in 3 days a week. Even bought a slim treadmill so I don’t have an excuse to not during the work week when I’m working at home. This doesn’t count walking my dog though! Walked both yesterday and today so we’re doing good this week so far. I hope Skye feels better today!

Hahaha you have my creamy pb and I’ll take all of the crunchy pb;). I love your focus this week and so cool about your new slim treadmill. I know a few people that have those and love them. Thank you Maureen, luckily she is a bit better this morning. Have a great Tuesday!

Good morning!
Oh my, you read my mind…I am craving peanut butter and spent some time yesterday researching for a clean one! It is crazy how much crap is in foods, seed oils in particular. The search will continue today until I find one!
Peloton…I am 1300 classes deep since I got my bike last year and feel like I could be besties with my favorite instructors (probably why they are my go-to). Here are my faves:
Bradley Rose-warm up and cool downs. always. He just makes me smile, which at 1:15 am is a blessing. I love his 10 minute Elton John cool down ride; his mood is infectious.
Olivia Omato and Kendall Toole-workouts. Olivia because she has a calm strength and Kendall because her energy is fire.
Adrian Williams-strength and running. I have taken many emotional laps with him, haha! His energy is just what I need and his laugh is the absolute best.
Jermaine Johnson-running. Just recently found him but he hooked me with his saying “lose the excuses find the result”. I mean, seriously. How do you respond to that other than just giddy up and do the darn thing?
Aditi Shah and Anna Greenberg. meditation. Its getting to the point I fall asleep within 2 minutes of my sleep meditations with them, I think my body is trained!
Goal for this month-aiming for some personal physical goals just to see if I can do it. Very grateful for Peloton and surfing buddies to help me get there.
Thank you for the reminder on arms, going to think about that on my run today.
Have a great day!!

You will have to let me know which one you find to be the best… I would love to follow you on this. THIRTEEN HUNDRED CLASSES. I am just so amazed by this and I take your opinion very seriously! Olivia’s calm strength–> YES! And Kendall really does have an insane amount of energy that is just contagious. Cannot wait to try out Adrian, Jermaine and Bradley. Ummmm I need to also follow your lead with the meditation. Love that you have those surfing friends, can you teach me how to one day. Thanks Amanda, you too!

In that photo of Andrew spreading jam on your bagel, it looks like he is following a recipe is the open cookbook that is propped up in front of him. :)

BAHAHA you are so right! I mean, it is pretty tricky;). Hope your day is off to a great start, Marilyn!

Hi Janae! I like your plan for the next month. As runners it’s easy to let strength take a backseat, but it’s so important. I’m a big Peloton fan too, but I just use the app. Have you ever tried a tread bootcamp? I’d be interested to hear your opinion. They’re my favorite. I just use my regular Sole treadmill for them. Fav Peloton instructors? Jess Sims, Andy Speer, Adrian Williams – they’re all great. Sometimes it just depends who you’re in the mood for. Ha!

Love the pic of Beck’s pouty lip :) Congrats to you on a hard race. Your time is incredible. Have a wonderful day!

You are so right, it’s easy to let the strength slide as we get into higher mileage and more workouts. I haven’t tried the tread bootcamp but I will have to next time I am at my sister’s house. THANK YOU for sharing and I am right there with you… my mood makes me decide who to choose for a class. Thank you friend, hope your day is a great one!

Hi Maria! I tried a tread boot camp for the first time this week and I loved it!! I chose to do a 60 min advanced class thinking because I run a lot I’d be good…I got through it and enjoyed it a lot but I am still sore 2 days later!

Adrian is forever my favorite instructor! He never fails to make class fly by and his strength classes are INSANE. I love all of the instructors though!

I usually only get creamy peanut butter because I mostly use it for baking, but now I’m craving crunchy for a yummy sandwich :) I think you just inspired my breakfast for the next week!

Reply

I have never taken from Adrian, now I need to! Seriously, you just cannot go wrong with the instructors ha. Enjoy those crunch pb sandwiches! Thanks Gretchen!

I PRed on one of Olivia’s rides this weekend! I have really been into Jess King’s classes but I also started the floor boot camp series that Jess Sims and Selena are doing. I highly recommend those. My husband loves Adrian for strength workouts.

And smooth peanut butter for a sandwich but I totally love crunchy to just eat out of the jar.

Reply

CONGRATS on the pr ride. Olivia’s classes always take me to the next level! I must try the floor boot camp series, that sounds really hard though ha. Mmmmm eating pb right out of the jar. It’s a must. Happy Tuesday, Corrinne!

Beck’s pout is NEXT LEVEL.
I’m racing some small races and doing lots of strength! I’m taking it a bit ‘easy’ running too so that I feel fresh starting Houston training in the fall.
I hope poor Skye feels better and no one else gets sick! The flu hit my son’s class a couple months ago and it was rough. Poor kids. :(
Creamy SALTED PB!!

Reply

YES YES YES. I think that is the best idea ever! I cannot wait to see what you do at Houston, you are so strong. Luckily, Skye is feeling so much better today. Thank you. VALID POINT… salted PB is 100% the way to go. Give me all of the salt. Have a great day, Mollie!

Matt Wilpers, Denis Morton, Sam Yo on the bike (I do 90% of my rides with Matt), Becs, Matt, Adrian, and Matty on the tread/outdoors (mostly Becs), and Andy, Adrian, Matty, and Selena for strength. I can’t stand Robin on the bike but I like her for running and strength.

But if I was just going to pick one instructor that I think is far and away the best, it would be Matt Wilpers on the bike, Becs for running, and Andy for strength.

Reply

Andrew LOVES Matt too, I need to try him. Hahaha I wonder what is different with her on the bike vs strength? Thank you for sharing and I’m going to take a strength class from Andy this week. Hope your day is a great one, Rachael!

I love Cody (he makes rides fly by!) and Hannah Frankson- she is so infectious and fun! I also use the outdoor runs/walks and love Matty, Becs, and Matt!

My current fitness goal is to run a half on/near my second daughter’s first birthday. I ran a 10k on my first daughter’s first birthday as a way to honor my body for its incredible power and to set time for myself to be outside. I’m moving back to running after being mostly on my Peloton. I live in Houston and it is HOT.

Any advice for a running plan that I could look into for a half? I’m currently running a few times a week with a top distance of 4 miles.

Reply

Cody makes me SO happy! Others are recommending Hannah too, I will have to try her asap. I absolutely love this goal. I am cheering for you and I hope you keep me updated on it all. I cannot imagine running in that heat. My friends just completed the Hal Higdon half plan and loved it for their first half. They had nothing but good to say about it! I love that he offers a plan for every level too:

You’ve got this, Lisa!

Creamy peanut butter all the way!
I have just gone through a MAJOR life change and a move. Last night I finally organized my home gym and my first goal this month is to simply get back in the groove of regular workouts. My mind and emotions and body will be so thankful (after the initial pain of the first few workouts – ha!) to get back on track and move the muscles again. My second goal is to get back to healthy and normal eating after the last month of grabbing whatever because I’ve been on a dead run . . . and just well, life. All I can say about that.
Beck’s face – so precious!

Reply

I hope all of these huge life changes are going okay! YAY for your home gym is up and running. The consistency of workouts will help you through all of these big changes but you are so right, that first week or two will hurt ha. Thinking about you, these goals are YOURS this month. Have a great day, Susan.

Fave bike instructor is definitely Bradley Rose. His rides always make me happy. Runners up are Denis and Sam.
Fave run instructors are Matty and Becs.
I also like Callie and Daniel, but have only taken a few strength classes from each of them.
I like creamy and crunchy, but 99.99999% of the time I will go creamy. You have to be in the right mood for crunchy.

Reply

I have never tried an outdoor run from Matty, I have to now and a ride from Bradley! Thanks for sharing. I hope you get some creamy pb asap!

Did you decide on a fall marathon?! I can’t believe it’s time to start training for fall races already!
I’m running a 6 miler at the end of July. I’m going to spend the next few weeks working on speed for that!
I usually go for creamy pb, but whenever I have crunchy I’m reminded that it’s really good too.

Reply

I think I’m 90% decided… I’ll know for sure next week! So excited for your 6 miler and please keep me updated on how the training is going for that. I hope you have something with pb in it soon. Enjoy your day, Ida!

Hannah Frankson is the best and most underrated instructor imho. Her programming is the best (especially her hit &hills) as she used to be a track and field athlete 😊

Reply

I just looked up Hannah’s classes and they look awesome, trying her asap! Hope your morning is off to a great start, Lindsey!

Have you tried the Hoka recovery sandals? I’ve been an oofos fan for so long, but I finally tried them and I like them! They’re a bit on the firm side, but I think that means more support and it feels like it’s going to last longer than the oofos.

Also, peanut butter is peanut butter in my opinion – GIVE ME ALL OF IT! ;)

Reply

WHAT?! How have I not seen their recovery sandals… off to go get some. Thank you for sharing this with me. I hope you have a lot of peanut butter asap!

I hope Skye is feeling better!

Favorite Peloton instructors – on the bike I like Jenn Sherman, Denis, Sam and Matt Wilpers. On the tread/outdoor running and walking I love Jon Hosking, Matt W., Matty, Susie Chan and Jermaine Johnson. Adrian and Daniel are my guys for strength, along with Selena and Robin, but I like Andy, Jermaine, Ben and Callie. I also like Emma’s crush your core program.

Always creamy PB. Have a great day!

Reply

Thank you, Beth! Luckily, she just woke up and is doing better today! THANK YOU for sharing and I have to try Emma’s crush your core program, you have inspired me. Hope you have some creamy PB in your life asap, have a beautiful day.

Beck’s pouty face, ha ha, adorable!
I love the whole strength for runners series! It’s really great. My go to instructors are Becs, Matt, Callie, Susie, and Joselyn. Callie has been my go to for strength! I seriously love that app!!
Last big Orange county PTA meeting for me this morning, yay!
Have a good day Janae 😊

Reply

Hahaha he knows how to pout! Seriously, so grateful for the strength for runners classes. They are so good! WOW, I hope it goes well. Thanks Wendy, you too!

Tangent: I was attacked by a bird on my run today. Like snuck up and pulled my hair.
Did anyone else think that Andrew was following a recipe for that jam bagel based on the photo?? hhahahah

Reply

ATTACKED?! WHAT IN THE WORLD. That bird is a jerk. Bahaha someone else did notice that. I laughed so hard! I mean, it is so complicated. Have a great day, Molly!

I like your plan for the next month. I had a really terrible marathon performance on Sunday – slowest time ever by far and felt blah the entire race – so am reassessing my plan before I start training for NY. Your dedication to strength is inspiring me

Reply

Sarah, I am SO sorry about your rough marathon a few days ago. That is the worst. YES, this month is all about strength now and then we can get into marathon training again! Keep me updated!
