Friday Favorites!

(Shoes, tank, shorts, socks)

Trails the day after speed will always be a challenge for me, but I have proof from a few years ago that this combo works.

A few years ago, I would have never thought I would be running so much in Nike (Andrew is shocked), but here we are.  I’m willing to branch out more with trails/slower runs vs speed/race shoes, and I’m happy I did with these.  They remind me so much of the Asics Novablast that I love so much (and did my last trail race in).  They are waterproof and offer a lot of traction with the best bounce (which is my favorite part of the Novablast).  Long story short, they feel like the trail version of the Novablast to me, and I love them.  The Hoka Speedgoat has a bit more protection from rocks, stability and comfort but they are bulkier than these.

10.2 miles @ 9:38 average with 1300 ft of climbing. +20 minutes of upper body strength!

After Brooke and Knox were out of school, we went up to dinner with my in-laws!

We got home late and I still foam-rolled… I’m on day 5 of my ‘foam rolling every night’ streak.

Let’s chat about a few of my favorite things…

*I loved using this as my swimsuit coverup and wore it all weekend in St. George.

*My nieces peer-pressured me into these shoes (bc they know they will get them eventually since I give them all of my clothes/shoes) but I jumped on the platform trend, and I’m not mad about it.  These no-show socks are my favorite to wear with all of my shoes like these.

*Target has the absolute best cheap tanks.  $8.  Lots of colors.

*I take s’mores pretty seriously and I have tried many variations.  This variation wins.

The search for perfection has come to an end.

*Janine said, “There actually IS a “pause button” for life- we just have to remember to push it when we need it (a few deep breaths, a quick walk, step away from the devices, etc.).”  It was such a good reminder for me!

*This picture of Brooke and Knox from one of the first times they met.  I cannot believe how fast it has gone.

What do you wear under your tanks? I hate having bra straps show!

Hey, Monica! Usually just a sports bra because I’m going to do some sort of work out! Hope your day is a beautiful one?

Is that a Nani bathing suit top I spot?? I love that brand!

The tank you’re wearing looks exactly like one I want so I will be checking out Vuori to see more info on it. Thanks for linking!

I am racing 25 km trails tomorrow locally.

HAVE A GREAT TRAIL RACE TOMORROW! Let me know how it goes. I want to see your nails, they sound so cute. I need some Udon noodles right now. Have a beautiful day, Kristine!

I have Saucony trail shoes, I forget the name though! I have a really hard time buying Nike products, basically I don’t unless it is 2nd hand. I might branch out as I have been tempted but with their history of mistreating athletes ( am a big Kara Goucher fan), I just can’t do it yet. I also think Nike has a done a good job supporting Kiera D so far. It’s just a big dilemma for me!

Emilee has been loving her Saucony trail shoes too! I knnnnnnnnnoooooooowwwwww I have felt that way too but I am happy to see the progress they have made lately. Hope your morning is a great one, Carrie!

Oh my gosh look how small Brooke and Knox were!! Soooo little!!
I think you should line up all your running shoes and take a pic of your collection —> I’d love to see how many pairs you have!!
Favourite things – the warmer weather we’re getting now in Canada … makes everything sooo much easier with a baby!!
I like s’mores but I’m not super obsessed. I like to use the “celebration” milk chocolate cookies and put a marshmallow in the middle – easy!

They just grow up way too fast! Hahaha I think I would be too embarrassed but maybe I’ll just email it to you;) I am so happy you are having better weather now and yay for all of the walks with the stroller. Littles are just happier outside. I hope you are all having the best day, Andrea!

Favorite things lately are clear containers from Amazon and glass jars from Ikea- I bought them to reorganize my pantry! I feel like the ladies from Home Edit hahah.

I’ve never tried Nike running shoes, I always loved Brooks. But for my half last week I wore Adidas and loved them! Branching out can be a good thing :)

Have a great weekend!

Ummm come help me reorganize my pantry, PLEASE! So glad you did that! Branching out is so hard to do but I’m always happy I did afterwards, so happy you loved your Adidas. Thanks Mariah, you too!

I definitely need to try those Nikes! I haven’t worn Nikes since HS but I loved them then.

My favorites lately are: Tessa Romero on IG with her positive mindset shifts for moms, the Marketside (from Walmart) cranberry pecan kale salad bag with a huge scoop of cottage cheese, and my new athleta running shorts.

Fave s’mores combo is Justin’s dark chocolate PB cups with graham crackers and marshmallows.

Happy Friday!!!

I need to follow Tessa Romero, thank you for telling about her page! I need that salad too and to try out athleta running shorts. Your s’mores combo sounds perfect. Thanks Meghan, same to you!

Oh my goodness Brooke and Knox were so little ❤️
We picked up our oldest and his girlfriend last night!! Yay! And they’re here for 10 days!!
We’re kicking off a really great next week with a big family weekend in Lake Arrowhead this weekend. Can not wait! Then next week is senior week with graduation on Thursday for our youngest, and a graduation party the following Saturday. My heart is so incredibly full!
I love the tanks from Target right now too. Old Navy has some great ones as well.
That swimsuit cover up is adorable and looks so comfy. I’m always on the lookout for a good coverup.
Love reading your thoughts about all the different shoes you’re trying. I’m ready for some new ones, so it’s definitely helpful.
Have a wonderful Friday Janae ?

I am SO happy that your son and his girlfriend are with you for the next ten days. ENJOY! I love Lake Arrowhead so so much. Congrats on your youngest son and his graduation coming up. SO many big events! I definitely have an addiction to shoes ha. Thanks Wendy, you too!

I have been loving Lulu tights/shorts lately. I give zero thought to them during the run.
I have been loving Muarten per usual but did you get the email today announcing their bar? Will be waiting a review from you! hehehe
Also, I’ll take a s’more in any variety as long as I don’t get marshmallow in my hair.

Reply

They have a bar now?? I cannot wait to try it! Thank you for telling me and expect a review soon! Hahah I definitely have some marshmallow in my hair now! Have a beautiful day, Molly!

Your running workouts never cease to amaze me. 1300 feet! Nice!

My favorite things lately are the rowing cardio machine and Cybex Arc Trainer in my partner’s apartment’s gym. I really haven’t been running much but I enjoy that I can make time to do a quick workout on these machines. I’m gonna miss them when I leave at the end of June.

I love the occasional smore. My favorite is to use dark chocolate.

I typically just wear my regular running shoes (Nike Pegasus) on trails but when I have lots of downhills on the trail I pull out my pair of Saloman speedcross to keep me from slipping and sliding.

Reply

Thank you, Caitlyn! The rowing machine is SO hard, you are amazing. I hope you are able to find a way to use those machines again once you leave. I’ve heard great things about the speedcross! Hope your morning is off to a great start, Caitlyn!

I get to go to our school’s grad bash at Universal Studios today as a chaperone & it’s extra sweet because my oldest is graduating!

I tend to run in a pair of Altras for trail runs and I like them. They are definitely a bit heavy though.

I love graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows, but not together :)

Reply

Marissa, that sounds like a blast! Congrats to your oldest! My group loves Altras (one of their brothers is the one that started it)! They are amazing shoes. Hahah I know a few people like that! Hope your day is a beautiful one.

Those vans are super cool! I just might have to get a pair too:)
I asked about your vuori joggers the other day – what size do you take in those?
Have a great weekend

Reply

I think you need them! I have the joggers in xs! Let me know what you think of them❤️

Those Vans are so cute, your nieces are doing a great job styling you!

I wear the Hoka Stinson ATR since most of our trails are just dirt with the occasional rocks and those seem to transfer over to the pavement pretty well too. For more technical trails (or for icy days in the winter) I use the Hoka Speedgoat’s. I’m in the market for another light trail shoe so I can mix things up a bit, but I’m a little nervous after wearing Hoka’s for so long that I’ll miss the cushioning. Runner problems.

The Charleston Chew S’more is brilliant!!! I love Charleston Chew’s but they’re honestly not my first pick of a candy bar (but I do love them) and in a S’more?! YES!!!!

Nike has such good colorways of their shoes but I can not wear Nikes. Those light blue trail shoes are so pretty. Their Zoom Wildhorse ones look great, too!!!

I have a race on memorial day! The Chattanooga Chase 8k……………our city’s oldest road race, in it’s 55th year! There should be a big turnout and the weather will be around 70 at race time, and sunny and high 80s later in the day. It is in a cute neighborhood near the country club & I just can’t wait to run all the hills (major hills in this 5 miler) and then relax all day in basically a big block party!

And I love smores, but I can’t do anything too chewy bc of my teeth so no charleston chews for me.

I find shoes always change..I used to hate ASICS for instance, and now, love my nimbus……I have to admit to not being a Nike fan, they have yet to come up with a model that fit me just right, I have used the Pegasus GTX in the distant past, but who knows maybe one day I’ll go back……for some reason now I have the desire to wear something carbon fibre or better yet a $300 shoe..just ’cause
my current fave is anything with blueberries! I know, I know, antioxidants, but just, um, yum
funny, years ago I accidently did a trail race (Sinister 7) and when I got to the start, I realized I had my Brooks Ghosts on…forgot to change shoes, and it was raining, pouring rain, and night…there were a few OMG please make me stop sliding moments, but I survived the I think 30K leg…….but yeah, I love my speedgoats….

Do people ask a lot if Brooke and Knox are twins since they are so similar in age? PS I am pregnant with surprise twins!!
