10 ways life was extremely different the last few days…. Mexico Recap!

I hope you had a great weekend!  We just got back last night from Mexico and had the greatest time so let’s chat about it.

Andrew and I flew into the Los Cabos International Airport on Wednesday.  It was only a 3 hour direct flight for us which was one of the reasons we chose Cabo, we loved the idea of a shortish flight!  We stayed at the Hyatt Ziva hotel (Andrew found a good deal on it through Delta Vacations) and loved it so much.  The room was very clean and nice and the views were amazing.  They offer rooms there where you can walk out your door and into a pool which looked really fun too.  Our room was over the adult pools but there were also two other huge pools.

This Vitamin D felt healing after winter in Utah the last few months.

When we were on our way to Cabo we went over all of the things we were going to do.  We were going to hike, explore, excursions etc…. and then we decided to just do one excursion, a bit of running and relax as much as possible.  This decision was made after we spent the first hour at the pool… it was just so nice to slow down.

We did go whale watching and this is Andrew trying to jump in to see them;)  Whales are his absolute favorite and he loved every second.

So other than the one time on a boat and two runs outside, we stayed at the resort and were very happy with that decision.

So much relaxation.

And treats too.

Andrew and I aren’t super picky and love most food ha but even we were shocked over how much we loved the food here.  The resort was all-inclusive so we pretty much tried everything there.  The buffet, room service and sushi were not our favorites BUT the teppanyaki, steak house, italian restaurant, tacos and bowls of guac/pico were insanely good.  I didn’t really take many pictures of food while we were there but the food was much better here vs previous places we have stayed at that were all-inclusive.

We kept saying over and over again how we have to bring our kids back here.  Also, the resort was pretty much empty on the weekdays and then got a bit busy on the weekend but nothing crazy.  PS it was very interesting how many people from Utah were also staying at this resort and we met a bunch of people that know the same people we do from home!

IMG 2695

The buffet did have a candy bar which made us stop by there every day:)

IMG 2716

We had two runs outside and one on the treadmill.  We loved that there was a little area on the side of the road for runners/bikers and saw a lot of people out running on them.  The mornings were a little chilly (great for running), the afternoons were perfect and the evenings just required a light jacket.

Seeing new places via your running shoes is the best way to see it.

The biggest thanks to my in-laws (and my mom helped out too!) for giving us the best time away.

10 ways life was extremely different the last few days….

1.  I ate chips and salsa for breakfast… a bit different than my normal oatmeal lately.

2.  We woke up each morning at the same time that Beck usually goes down for his nap.

3.  I think I checked the time once every few hours.

4.  My main source of H2O was from the ice in my virgin piña coladas.

5.  For each and every meal, I didn’t have anyone crawl on my lap to take half of the food in front of me.

6.  We ate dinner at the same time of night that I’m usually in my 2nd REM sleep cycle.

7.  I ate more tacos in just one day than I usually do in three months.

8.  I didn’t go near a washer or dryer when these days I am doing 1-2 loads a day at home.

9.  I was on a pool chair for 4 hours straight one day without getting up once.

10.  I heard Andrew speak a lot of Spanish and I tried my hardest to follow along.

It really was the perfect amount of time for our trip…  We had the best time together (and needed it so bad) but we were also so ready to get back to our kids at the end!

Do you prefer relaxing vacations or more adventurous ones?  Or does it just depend?

Do you speak a foreign language?

Where was the last ‘new to you’ place that you went running?

Where would you go if you could jump on a plane right now?

Yay, Janae; looks like y’all had a beautiful trip! I’ve never been a huge beach person, but Cabo looks incredible. You and Andrew did exactly what my husband and I do when we are on vacation- some hiking/running balanced with lots of relaxing. The last place I explored in my running shoes was Pigeon Forge, TN. Between the beautiful mountains and the cooler temps, I was in running heaven! If I could get on a plane and go anywhere, I’d love to visit Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, or Zion National Park. I know the kids are thrilled to have y’all back. Also, I love that the place you stayed has a candy bar, so cool! I love the pic of your drink, chips and pico, and of course GUMMY CANDY! I’m a gummy addict, so I chuckled when I saw that. Have a great week!

Hey Emily! Thank you so much! Seriously… that is the best way to travel in our opinion:). Ummm your running in Pigeon Forge sounds like it was incredible. If you ever make it out to Zion soon let me know, it’s just the best. I’m going through withdrawals not having a bag of gummy candy at my side haha. Thanks friend, you too!

Looks like a lovely resort!! So glad you enjoyed your time away. How was the beach there?

Hey Rachel! The beach was STUNNING and the sand was just so soft on my feet but the water was cold and too dangerous to swim in because of the undertow. I’m much more of a pool person with a view of the ocean so it worked great for us! I hope your day is off to a great start:)

We LOVE Cancun, because we can get there by noon. And we know the ropes there, including how to navigate the airport *super easy, and our ride to our resort, and how the resort works. They also have very good Covid cleanliness and precautions. So we can just check in and go, because we know the resort so well. That brings us a measure of peace and we don’t have to spend time figuring out where to get towels, and how to do stuff, since we already know. It’s also all inclusive, which is the ONLY way we travel. I literally read 5 books in a week on the beach. My head and heart NEED it and we love it so much. Glad you got away.

Isn’t it just amazing to be able to get to such a gorgeous location so quickly?! By noon… aka perfect! There is just something so amazing about all-inclusive resorts, it takes out any work/stress and truly makes it feel like you get to relax 100%. I hope you guys are off to Cancun again soon! Have a great day, Kelly!

Your trip looks amazing!! Sunshine by the pool sounds like the perfect cure for winter blues. Also those tacos look delicious.

I usually like somewhat adventurous vacations because I love exploring, but if there is a pretty pool, sunshine, good food and drink, and I have a good book, you can find me there all day.

Thank you so much Mariah and I really hope you get to go on a trip soon… you just described the perfect day!

It sounds like such a wonderful trip! I haven’t been on a plane since January 2020 but I am hoping to change that this year.

For the most part I like adventurous vacations. Because I work from home, I don’t want to just go someplace and sit in one spot. Last week I was at my hairdresser and she’s going on a cruise and can’t wait. I like cruising too, but right now given the choice I wouldn’t do that type of vacation, but someday we will again.

I took French throughout junior high, high school and some college. I’ve been relearning it using Duolingo as I hope to get back to France. But I definitely feel like languages are something that if you don’t use them you lose them.

I’m glad you guys had such a great trip!

I really hope you are able to fly somewhere amazing this year where you get to have plenty of adventures! I think this is so great that you are working on your French right now! Thank you friend and keep me updated with how you are doing, enjoy your day!

I am so glad you two had a great time in Cabo! That’s one place we have never been, but would love to. And the flight from her is a little less than 2 hours! An all inclusive resort sounds pretty perfect too.
There are so many places I have never been to but would love to… Europe, Australia, New England, Alaska…
My hubby and I are going to Hawaii next month, just the 2 of us. It will only be for 4 days, but we haven’t had a real vacation in a long time. And it’s been about 8 years since we’ve been to Hawaii! I am so excited!!
Glad you had a relaxing time away! You both deserve it!

Oh Wendy, you guys have to go! You really are so close. HAWAII YAY! Oh this makes me so happy. I can’t wait to see the pictures. Congrats on your amazing race this weekend and running happy!

Yessssssssss glad you got some time away. I have never been to an all inclusive resort but I’d probably eat all the ice cream and candy. We enjoyed our time on the beach in Puerto Rico this fall and it’s good to have time to unplug and do very little.

Reply

Ummmmm meet us at an all-inclusive someday? I literally did just that all day long:) I’m so glad you guys were able to go to Puerto Rico a few months ago, it really is so needed to get away for a few days. Have a beautiful day, Victoria!

If you’re on a beach, your main H2O should be from whatever cocktail/mocktail you’re drinking. That’s how you know you’re doing it right! Sounds like a dreamy vacation

Hahaha valid point! Thank you so much for helping me feel better about that choice;). Have a great day, Maureen!

Good morning and welcome home! What a wonderful trip!! I’ve been to Cancun and Riviera Maya, but not Cabo. Looks great!!
My favorite is a blend of relaxation and adventure. I can’t just sit around for an entire week. However, I also don’t like to cram so much in that I need a vacation from my vacation when I get home LOL.
I can speak a bit in several languages, but fluent in nothing other than English. I try to learn some of the language before I travel to another country. It’s fun while I’m using it and then lose it all after I’m home. Oh well!
If I could jump on a plane today, I would go back to Ireland in a heartbeat <3 <3 <3
Have an awesome day, Janae!

Oh thank you so much Janine, I hope you get to go to Cabo someday with the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation! That is amazing that you know a bit of several languages! Ummmm we will meet you in Ireland, sounds amazing! Thanks friend, you too!

We stayed at the Hyatt Ziva in Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon in 2018 and loved it! We want to go to some of the others or back to the Puerto Vallarta one. It was so nice and the food was so good!

I would go to Hawaii! About 5 years ago we started saving for a trip to take our kids for our 10th anniversary. We were supposed to go last summer but with covid hasn’t happened and I don’t plan it to happen tbis year either. Maybe by our 15th anniversary we will get there. We live on the east coast, so Hawaii is a huge trip for us. And I want to take the kids because when else would they get to go?

Reply

Oh Mary, I hope so badly that you are all able to make it to Hawaii soon. You guys will LOVE it. That is quite the journey for you all but I hope it happens sooner than later. Keep me updated! I have had a bunch of friends go this year already and said it was amazing! Have a great day.

I love this!! Where did you get your swimsuit?!?

Hey Bekah! I got it here and I LOVED it so much! https://shopstyle.it/l/bDOPy

I’ll do a full post on Friday with links to everything too if that helps. I hope your day is a beautiful one!

HOORAY FOR YOU!! We took our first trip to Mexico to an all inclusive adults only when our kids were preschool age. I loved the adults only aspect – it let that “Mom” part of my brain switch off for a few days. Once you’re a mom there’s always part of you that’s alert to kid sounds .. I guess that’s another reason why the human species has survived!

We leave our phones in tbr room safe while we are there .. it’s really nice to take a digital break.

Our kids are old enough now that we can start to dream about taking trips that are NOT tied to the school calendar. It’s a bit bittersweet to think about it being just the two of us again!

We just took our kids to Cancun over Winter Break because we wanted them to experience the joy of an all-inclusive resort. Hungry at 2 PM? Go get some tacos! Don’t like the breakfast you chose at the buffet? Go pick something else! My 10 year old also discovered a love of virgin strawberry daquiris. (Yikes! Ha)

This vacation seems like the perfect little getaway for both of you to recharge! You can’t beat a 3 hour direct flight to warmth in the middle of winter. We usually take pretty active vacations with lots of hiking, biking or paddling, but every once in a while we take a “just relax” trip and it really is the best!

This looks awesome!! I got married at the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun and love these hotels. The Cancun one has an easier beach for swimming, but the resort looks pretty darn similar! And yay to sitting on a pool chair for 4 hours ?

Reply

NO WAY!!! Andrew and I kept saying we wish we would have gotten married there!

Reply

Oh my goodness, I went to Hyatt Ziva years ago and I still dream of the adult pool side meat that they slow cook on the spit with guacamole – the guy who operated just knew to come out to me each day with that mix. It was amazing! Glad to hear that it is still as amazing as ever!

Reply

NO WAY! This made me so happy… that meat and guac was heaven! We ate so much of it. I think we all need to go back! Hope your day is a great one!
