(Tank, shorts, shoes)

Good morning!

I was pretty excited about my ride yesterday.  A few people recommended that I try out Robin’s Greatest Showman ride, and I loved it.  The songs from that movie will always be my favorite.  I wasn’t expecting it to be a hard workout, but it was and I hit a new 30 minute PR during the ride.  I finished up with a 20 minute back and chest workout and then some stretching.  PS Andrew and I were reading online about how people cheat on the leaderboard… what in the world?!

I feel that snow is in the near future, so we are trying to be outside as much as possible now.

IMG 5155

We went on a hunt for worms.

I need to know whether the stories Skye tells me about her day at school are true or not… If they are true, her preschool class needs to be part of a reality tv show.

(Huge fan of cardigans these days)

I enjoyed this podcast episode while I was out and about while Brooke and Skye were in school.

And then we went to the book fair, which is QUITE the event for these kids.

IMG 5172

We then went shopping for Beck’s birthday, and Skye seemed to think that Beck would love all of the toys that she would love to get;)

My monthly rotation:  One week I am very into cooking, one week we eat out a bunch, one week we eat quick Costco and Trader Joe’s meals (my favorites are here), and one week we eat pancakes/cereal every night.  Currently on our Costco week.

The World Series was watched…

Off for a run with Emilee this morning… I swear our bodies are always in sync and it’s fun to come back from our injuries together.

I was told this, so I thought I should share it here too if anybody reading needs it—>  STOP SHOULDING YOURSELF (haha and yes, this is supposed to sound like something else).

How many times a day do you find yourself saying, ‘I SHOULD do/be _______’ ?

The thing is, you are doing enough.  You are enough.  So when you see someone else’s life and feel like you should be doing ______ too, stop shoulding yourself.  Stop putting pressure on yourself to do more or to be different.

You are doing a fantastic job with all of the things you are doing.

Let’s all stop the shoulds, keep moving forward in the direction we want to go, and let go of the rest.

I tell my kids this every night when I put them to bed—> ‘I love you just the way you are’ (thanks to Mr. Rogers), and I’m learning to feel the same way about myself too!

——————————————————————————————————————

Have a tip of the day that you can share with us?

Any favorite quick meals from Costco that you love?  I’m always looking for more.

Have you been watching the World Series?

What are you reading right now?  I would really love a good book recommendation!

Hi Janae,
Book fairs are a big deal in our house too!

First, I hope your runs keep feeling better and better as you come back.

Second, I have been using TJ’s Autumnal Pasta Sauce A LOT this fall. One day I will use half the jar for pasta sauce. The next day I will use the sauce, chicken broth, and leftover pasta for a vegetable soup. Put some crumbled goat cheese on top…you won’t regret it!
Have a great day!

WHAT?!?! Okay, I cannot thank you enough for telling me about that… I love the sauce so much and putting it in soup with crumbled goat cheese on top?! I am drooling at 6 in the morning. Thanks for sharing and I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Heart this, Jenny!

Those tortellini are a staple for me! I throw them in the freezer since I can’t eat all of it by myself haha. You should look at the Just Bare lightly breaded chicken nuggets at Costco. They’re a Chick fil A copycat and so good! I love putting them on a salad.

OH MY GOODNESS! I just bought them but haven’t tried them yet… I’m so excited to hear you love them too. Have the best day, Maureen!

I needed the stop “shoulding” myself message today. Thank you <3 Hope yall have the best day, Janae!

Let’s work on this together, okay?!? Thanks Nadya and I hope your Wednesday is a beautiful one!

My tip of the day is to take any emails on topics that give you anxiety or upset you, and archive them. Don’t delete them, just take them off the top of your screen so you don’t look at them constantly, and just address/work on them on your own terms. This is an emotional health game changer.

Oh wow, I love this tip! EVERYONE DO THIS ONE!!!

Victoria, I hope you are having a great morning and your emails need to always stay at the top of my screen because they bring me joy.

Heart this, Victoria!

So many things to comment on!
Your meal rotation seriously made me LOL! I’m all about the quick meals these past 3 months since Zach was born. Slowly getting back into real cooking but I also definitely need a quick meal/eat out week after a cooking week to reset!!
A few book recommendations of things I’ve recently read and LOVED: nonfiction/ memoir – nowhere girl: memories of a fugitive childhood. Historical fiction – the four winds. Fun fiction/“beach read” – Malibu rising. More serious fiction – that summer.
Hahaha Skye you cutie. Good try on the gifts ;)
Our book fair is virtual this year. Oh how I wish it was in person!!

I wish I could have brought you over dinner after you had Zach! THANK YOU FOR THE RECOMMENDATIONS. I love that you gave me different genres to choose from. Cannot wait to try them out. It is virtual this year?! Nooooo. I hope you get an in-person one soon!

Good morning!
Book fairs were one of my absolute favorite things as a kiddo, glad they are still around. I saw a little girl under an umbrella at the beach the other day with a whole stack of books beside her; she was deep into one of them and it made my heart so happy. I just picked up Courage is Calling by Ryan Holiday on my kindle, looking forward to it. I definitely recommend Deep Nutrition by Catherine Shanahan, still amazed by what I learned!
My tip of the day…part of my morning routine is meditation and journal time. I am a huge believer of manifestation and have been using the project 369 journals for some time now. I end my session repeating aloud to myself “Its already yours”. I can’t even tell you how powerful it is to put out into the universe what you want. It is so wild to me but so true.
I didn’t watch any of the Series but saw on IG that the Braves won, ending quite the drought for them. Congratulations to them!
Have a great day!

Right?! So many good memories of going to book fairs as a kid. I love hearing that about that sweet little girl, Brooke would love to join her in that:). THANK YOU for that recommendation! I’ll check it out! Wow, that is very powerful… I will have to try that out, thank you! You are an awesome example to me of journaling and meditation. Thanks Amanda, you too:).

I so needed to read your tip today, Janae. I have been the queen of “shoulding” to myself lately.

I am SO glad. We’ve got this! No more SHOULDS! Have a beautiful day, Leslie!

HRG, hearting your cooking rotation! Yeah, own it!! Also, I guess the burritos for the freezer are done the week you love cooking?

As I endeavor to be a bright, shiny person, I SHOULD myself sometimes. There are times when it’s a helpful tool to break a “bad” cycle of whatever. However, as we come back from lockdowns and navigate mandates/ new normal/ how to live with COVID19, I feel behind in some ways and find the SHOULD TOOL popping up. Do I need to pick it up, or not? I have to DECIDE each time. In this country where it’s so great to have freedom, and there are so many “right” ways to do things, it can be challenging to pick a path we are comfortable following. I want to make sure I consider “all the variables.” When I am bright and shiny and I know it, I can relax in this area and know I’m addressing the important variables now while I keep ALERT for any to bring in to the mix (and any to fall out because they are superceded (sp?) or unnecessary in the present).

Hey Lee! Hahah yes, making them happens in the first week and then eating them for breakfast/lunch happens throughout the month. I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Hi Janae! I miss having time right now to comment regularly, but still love reading your posts. This one of “stop shoulding all over yourself” is soooo needed right now, so thank you!!!
In this season of my life, my meal planning focus is to simply not resort to eating junk/a lot of processed food, just because it’s easier. The thing is, it truly doesn’t take more time to make whole food choices that are quick and easy. Habits are tough to change though!!
So happy to hear that your comeback is going well and your foot is behaving :o) Keep up the strong work! Book fairs gave me all the heart eyes as a kid and I love that they still happen. A second hand book store opened up the street from my office and I can’t wait to explore it – the adult equivalent of a book fair I think lol! Have a beautiful Wednesday, Janae!!

Janine! I totally understand that you are super busy so don’t stress but I do always love hearing from you! Less is more for you right now… more NOs and less shoulds with how busy life is! Thank you so much Janine and the book fairs are still going strong. Oh I bet that book store will be amazing, enjoy and I wish I could join you!

Ooh books. Currently reading American Dirt which is very good. Another one I read was called Where the Crawdads sing. I loved that one. I am also reading a bunch of romance novels lol.

Happy running and return from injury. Have a great day Janae and I think the way Skye chooses birthday presents is great :).

I wore some different shoes for my walk yesterday and now my pinky toe is freaking out! I hope I can run later! Random, I know but I was just thinking about your post the other day about not freaking out about injuries as much, especially as I get older (not that this is really an “injury” just a poor choice in footwear!).

Also BOOK FAIRS, yes!!! Please tell me they still hand out the old school catalogs! I used to love looking through them and circling the ones I thought I’d like. I just finished reading ‘Cleopatra: A Life’ by Stacy Schiff. It’s a historical biography and I loooooved it. It’s nice to read about a woman in history, since there seem to be so few stories that are focused on. I actually miss the book now that it’s over, isn’t that weird?

Have a great day, Janae! I hope your run went well.

I just read (and immediately re-read) People We Meet on Vacation.
On the side I am reading Roar (with a grain of salt re: weight talk).

Skye is such a crackup. I think you have a million dollar idea with a reality show from a 3 year old perspective. I’m reading a great book right now by Isabel Wilkerson – The Warmth of Other Suns. She is an incredible story teller. I also loved The Giver of Stars and The Girl with the Louding Voice. We’re baseball fans so watched the World Series. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many grand slams in the post season! I’m a little relieved it’s over now so we can get back into Ted Lasso!

Oh, I got the PuraVida Veggies at Costco before – they’re so good!

This is one of our favorites using that Costco tortellini. I also add a few handfuls of spinach and blend the soup base. My kids can’t get enough of it!

Former elementary school librarian here; book fairs are THE BEST! Even if they are absolutely exhausting to put on, they are worth the chaos! I am currently reading Master the Marathon by Ali Nolan and so far I am loving it. Not even sure a marathon is in my future, but tips are helpful for running any length race.
Happy Wednesday!

Former preschool teacher here. We always told the parents we promised to believe 50% of the stories the kids told us about their home life of parents promised to believe 50% of the stories about school! ;)

I’m on a historical fiction kick right now. My favorite was The Alice Network. Others include The Rose Code, The Huntress, The Address, The Masterpiece, Sunflower Sisters. Others – Greenlights, The Choice, The Lies That Bind, It’s Better This Way, Cottage By the Sea. Daisy Jones & the Six (it took me a little bit to get into this one, but once I did it was good.)

Just tonight we had the Chicken Marsala from Costco. I recommend it for an easy dinner.
What a great post about giving ourselves grace and stopping the should of.
One very small tip that has really made a difference in my confidence in what I’m saying. Leaving out the word just. It reminds me that what I say is string and communicates this to others.

I’m currently reading “Along the Infinite Sea” by Beatrice Williams. I highly recommend.

I’ve had my Peloton for about a year and a half now and have never heard of cheating to place higher on the leaderboard! I can’t even think how one would do that. But most importantly why?! It’s been fun to read about your experiences with the bike. I got into Powerzone training and now it’s my favorite.

OH heck yes to the No “Shoulding” yourself! This is the best reminder. Also, I was super excited to see the Braves win the World Series…grew up watching them and it’s so fun to see that win happen for them!
Your family is precious and I so value your authenticity on here. Thank you!
