Makes me wonder and a change in my life.

(Tank, shorts, bra, and shoes)

Don’t forget to enter my giveaway for running shoes HERE!

I had roughly 20 minutes to ride, and somehow the Peloton makes it so that you can get in a killer workout in just 1200 seconds.  I am finding that I love Robin’s classes the most.  I did her class with 90’s music yesterday, and I was in heaven.  She asked about what everyone’s first email address was, and mine was janaebabe@gmail…  I need to go through that email and reread all of my old emails from when I was 12 years old.

It was the kids’ last day of fall break, and we decided to go find some snow.  It only took us about 15 minutes to get to the snow.

First snowman of many this year.

Seeing fall and winter at the same time is kind of fun but also very cold.

IMG 4331

Easy Gnocchi Soup turned out to be the best option for our cold day.  PS I am back to ordering my groceries online and it is amazing which makes me wonder why I haven’t always done it this way.

Let’s get talking about a few random things…

*I brought a chocolate peanut butter chip Levain cookie home for Andrew, and he agrees with me, it’s the best cookie in the world.

IMG 4130

*My niece is brilliant.

Cd15a70a 1a6e 4b9c b4c6 042a7cc23299

*I think the kids are going to push me out the door to go on another trip because of the souvenirs they received when I got home.  NYC notebooks, NYC pens, and little Statue of Liberty figurines.

IMG 4134

*I tried a beet salad in NYC, and it turns out I like beets.  No, I love beets.  I’m shocked, and so is Andrew.

*Each child spends a lot of time in their Halloween costumes to prepare for the day.

IMG 4283

*An ice cream cone, Paw Patrol book, and the playground… All she needs to be happy.

IMG 4280

*Somebody asked me for the picture from my side of that Gigi paparazzi picture that I posted.  A few more paparazzi were in cars on the side, but they all seemed pretty respectful of her, which was nice.

Screen Shot 2021 10 19 at 12 51 00 PM

*It’s a big day.  I graduated up to 15 lb weights for a lot of my strength training.   Crazy how improvements start happening when you are finally consistent with strength training ha;).

I love beets too! Have you tried roasting fresh beets at home?

Reply

I haven’t but now I must learn how… how do you do it? I hope you have a beautiful day, Angie!

Reply

Yes, this is my favourite way too! I buy the fresh beets, cut off the end on each side, then give them a good wash (leave skin on). Wrap in al foil and put in oven tray for 30min or so (depending on how big they are, just check by pricking with a fork to see if they’re done). Then when you take them out, unwrap and let cool for a bit. Once cool enough to handle, with a paper towel, peel off the skin (it will come off easily) and cut in cubes as required :)

Reply

Beets are great roasted, but man I have a hard time not getting my fingers to turn purple. I coat them in oil, time off the tops and the bottom, and wrap them in foil then bake like a potato. The skin is a bit easier to peel that way, but still…

[email protected] (gmail wasn’t invented yet, and this is from the 90s when I hadn’t signed up aol yet :0

I have ordered groceries online sporadically until the pandemic, and 100% online since the pandemic. Pros: saves time, stick to my list, the app reminds me of what I usually buy. Cons: don’t always get what you want, substitutes aren’t always perfect, and you don’t get to see new and different things from browsing the aisle.

I used to hate salt and vinegar chips but now love them.

Congrads on your trip! I miss travel sans family sometimes. Had a work trip to Boston scheduled in August – just a one nighter – but it was cancelled as the COVID numbers had another uptick. I signed up for a race in December that I am woefully unprepared for in order to have a weekend away lol

Reply

Hey Tonya! I think I might just have to order them at restaurants to avoid the purple feelings ha. Okay, you just reminded me that my first one was actually at hotmail and I totally remember juno.com email addresses. Definitely seeing those pros and cons myself too. THOSE CHIPS ARE THE BEST. Thank you for reminding me of how good they are. I really hope you get that weekend away to race. Keep me updated on it! Have a beautiful day, Tonya!

Reply

You can buy precooked and peeled baby beets. They are usually around the precut vegetable produce section. Trader Joe’s has them, many chain groceries carry the Melissa’s produce brand, Whole Foods has a brand. To me the avoidance of a mess is worth the extra price.

Reply

Beets are not my jam but to each their own!

Pretty sure my first screenname was xoxoH0llyW00dSmile because I grew up in Chicago so it made so much sense lol

Reply

I totally understand your feelings on them too because I did not like them either! Isn’t it so much fun to look back at that time haha. Have the best day, Maureen!

Beets are one thing I can’t like, my kids like them though which is so surprising. I have never bought groceries online, my husband actually likes to do all the grocery shopping for the big orders, I just stop to pick up little things here and there so we have a pretty good system :)

Your snow picture reminded me of skiing! I am planning to get my daughter ski’s for Christmas this year and I know your kids are into skiing too. Do you have recommendations for a ski snowsuit for big kids? I know you did the one piece which is nice but don’t think they are available over a size 7. Do you have one you are getting them this year or any recommendations? Thanks and hope you have a great day!!!

Reply

That is AWESOME that your husband loves the store, keep that awesome thing going:) SO excited for you and your daughter to SKI! We definitely need to get new ski gear for them (we haven’t checked if their boots even fit this year)! We pretty much buy everything at Al’s now : https://www.als.com/kids
Sign up for their VIP list because you will get awesome deals! Now you have me wanting to get new stuff hahaha… let me know what you get and have the happiest winter skiing together.

Reply

I love beets too! We have a restaurant with a beet salad that includes goat cheese and candied pecans. It’s soooo good. Golden beets are really good and stain your hands less if you start roasting your own.

Reply

That’s what was in the salad that I had, pure heaven! Golden beets at home sound like the perfect solution. Have a great day, Corrinne!

Reply

There is just something about beets and goat cheese that hits oh so good!

Grocery shopping online is so good but the pricing can be interesting. My local Safeway is on instacart but because I am such a creature of habit in what I buy, I know the app is trying to charge me an extra 20-30% vs what I would pay in store…that is before the service charges and other fees! I stick to Whole Foods delivery, where the prices are the same in store as well as the app and similar to what I would pay in Safeway or Foodland. I wonder how many people realize this craziness??

Loving the snow and fall photos! Planning a trip back to CO for some snow and family/friend time…so excited!

Reply

I could not believe how good the combo of beets and goat cheese were… pure heaven. WOW, that is a huge increase in price! I wish we had a Whole Foods so badly. I just used Walmart yesterday and there was no price increase for pick-up in the parking lot. I wonder which ones do and which ones don’t? My bill felt so much cheaper because I wasn’t grabbing all of the random stuff that I normally do ha. I am so happy you will be going to CO soon… I hope you enjoy every single second.

Reply

I’m ready for 15lb weights. I have a set of adjustable weights but I can’t get the pin to move them to 15.
I did grocery shopping online a few times. It was nice to not have to go to the store but the substitutions weren’t always good or they wouldn’t substitute for something they were out of. I always ended up have to go in to get stuff so I just went back to doing it myself since it wasn’t saving me much time. There’s also a lot of confusion surrounding bananas. If I asked for two bunches of bananas i would get two bananas. if i asked for ten bananas, i would get ten pounds of bananas. there was no place to specify if it was individual bananas, bunches, or pounds.
Please keep the snow. I hate being cold and I don’t like snow. Snow means it’s cold.

Have a great Wednesday!

Reply

That pin needs to move so you can start using the 15s. Way to go! Okay, that banana situation is stressful! I didn’t order any last time so I am interested with what happens when I do. I’ll let you know, not sure what I would do with ten pounds of bananas haha. I’ll keep all of the snow (and live in the hot tub this winter;) so you don’t have to deal with it. Thanks Lee, you too and stay warm!

Reply

Oh, this is too much! Really, 10 lbs of bananas?? Even two bananas. This is like a test.

You know what I would do? Rectify that situation before departing the lot/ parking space/ starting the car. It’s just doing the job right. We’re all on the same team. I bet the employee bringing it to you WANTS you to rectify it because they are out of breath. Who knows? You or the store manager might find a way to get a note to IT. This shines the light on the bigger team – the community. Someone’s mother or father won’t know who to thank! There’s an awesome investment of time!

Love beets, red and golden, especially roasted!
Radishes, always hated them, but now I love them, only roasted, still can’t do raw. Blech.

Reply

I HAVE NEVER TRIED ROASTED RADISHES! I must try those asap! Thanks Nancy and I hope your day is off to a great start.

Reply

Hahaha I think mine was a Juno account. And I’m pretty sure I remember the name but it’s too embarrassing to post. :)
Yes to grocery shopping online!! We did pick up last week and that was fine too. It’s SO much easier right now with my husband gone! Plus I spend way less money when I can’t see all of the things I need to try.
The peloton classes look so fun!!! Have a great day!

Reply

Hahaha well now I am TOO curious;). I bet that grocery shopping online saves you when your husband is gone! My bill was half what it normally is because I didn’t buy all of the random things I normally do. When does training start back up for you?

Reply

I LOVE roasted beets. They are the best. We only shop in the store. I am very picky about my produce. When I was little, I only ate my hamburgers with ketchup. Now I love them loaded. I also hated egg yolks. Now I will eat a runny egg on hamburgers or in ramen noodles or bowls when you can stir the goodness into the food. I still intensely dislike green beans and watermelon. Blurp.

Reply

Now you have me craving a burger with a runny egg on it. So glad you overcame those two things and there is still hope for the watermelon;). Or I’ll just eat double the amount for you! Hope your day is a great one, Jackie!

Reply

Love beets! Trader Joes sells packages with them already roasted, which makes it much easier to chop up into a salad! That + goat cheese = YUM.

My first screen name was funrunner68! I love reminiscing about AIM and messaging your crush..so much stress back then haha. Your kids will never understand the angst of waiting for them to respond only to see they logged off :( Devastating!

Reply

Wait. You actually just changed my life. I will be buying that next time I am there. I didn’t want to do all of the work to make roasted beets so this solves things for me. Thank you! And funrunner68 was your first screen name? I LOVE that. Hahaha you just gave me so many flashbacks, I want AIM to be back for this generation. They need those stressful moments too haha;). Have a great day, Gretchen.

Reply

You’re right! Chocolate and peanut butter cookies from Levain’s ARE the best! The rumor is that they sell them in the freezer aisle at Whole Foods, but I haven’t confirmed this yet. :)

Reply

Off to SLC to get my hands on those cookies! THANK YOU, Marilyn and I hope your day is a great one!

I heard vessel kitchen has an amazing beet salad! My first email address was goalicia22 – I remember trying to come with a cool one and almost did Paulisdead- like what was I thinking??? Glad I didn’t choose that one! I’ve started doing spin once a week and it’s such a great workout!! I’m 25 weeks pregnant and can’t run anymore :( so spin has been a great way to get in the cardio!

Reply

Just looked up the vessel kitchen beet salad… I need to get my hands on that! Hahaha I think you made the right choice with your email address too. SO excited about your pregnancy and I really hope that you are feeling great. Awesome job with the spin, you are amazing and please keep me updated on how you are doing!

Love beets, roasted or pickled for warmer temps. My gran would put canned beets in a jar with vinegar and just keep them in the refrigerator like pickles. I still use my first email address, it’s based on my name and number of family members, so nothing cool or fancy. I haven’t tried grocery shopping online. Other than getting out to run or walk the dogs, trips to the grocery store are the only time I leave my house! It’s so strange to be seeing snow pictures this ‘early’ in the season. Here in the northeast, we’re FINALLY getting a (very delayed) bit of Fall- time to dig out the sweaters! Have a great day, Janae :)

Reply

Hey Jen! Ohhhhhh now I think I need to try pickled beets. I love that your gran always had them in the refrigerator. Seriously, the snow showed up way too early this year. ENJOY that fall weather on your runs and walks. Thanks Jen, you too!

A Bountiful Kitchen blog makes the best copycat Levain Bakery cookies! We’ve tried every version and love them, so definitely give them a try! Just typing about them makes me crave them. https://abountifulkitchen.com/levain-bakery-dark-chocolate-peanut-butter-chip-cookies/
Beets are the ultimate salad topper!

Reply

Sarah. THANK YOU! I love her blog and now I cannot wait to make these… and the pictures have me drooling.
I might be ordering beet salads at every restaurant that I go to! I hope you have the best day!

Reply

And a PSA on eating beets…they can turn your pee pink/reddish. So don’t make a trip to the ER because things don’t look right. Ok, that might have happened.

Reply

Just what I needed…. I would have done the same thing! Thanks for warning me:). Have a beautiful day, Jen!

Reply

my husband just started getting into beets this year! I was hesitant at first, but they are really good. I guess it makes sense- they make sugar out of beets. haha. I cook them in the crockpot- so easy!

Reply

I didn’t even think about that… that is why I love beets haha. And that is so smart to cook them in the crockpot, thank you so much for the tip and have a beautiful day!

Reply

I was in the grocery store yesterday and saw Levain cookies in the freezer section! You just pop them in the oven to warm them. I totally thought of you and your recent posts about how yummy they are. Check your store to see if they carry them!

Hey Tracy! You are just the best, thank you thank you. That link showed me where to get them… I cannot wait! Have a beautiful day, friend.

Reply

Hi Janae! Beets are pretty great, I usually wrap them in foil and then roast and the skins come right off after. 15 lb is a lot, especially for upper body work. Have a great day!

Reply

THANK YOU for that tip… I seriously have zero clue how to cook them myself. Thanks Amy, have a beautiful day!

Reply

I never knew I liked beets until I met my husband, who is a really good cook. Our favorite go to beet recipe is a roasted beet, pear, and goat cheese salad with the option to add a drizzle of a light vinegar. So tasty!!

Reply

I love beets! I discovered that I like them by eating a beet salad too. And they’re really good for you. Everyone else in my family thinks I’m weird… Ha
I actually enjoy grocery shopping. I like to pick out my produce, meats, and I like talking with my favorite employees.
Great job on the consistent strength work! I am getting a bit more consistent myself ?
I have another few busy days ahead, but they’ll be good!
Have a great day Janae.

Reply

Hey Wendy! Those beet salads just steal our hearts. Of course you have friends at the grocery store too, you are so friendly and kind to everyone. Look at us being consistent, I am so proud of us. Thanks Wendy, you too!

Beets are amazing. I just made some last night. I cut them into coins and seasoned them with some salt, pepper and a little garlic and then roasted them in a toaster oven for about 30 mins or so. Just until they were slightly soft. So good on just about anything.

Reply

Your beet description is making me drool… I have to try your combo. Thanks Lenae and I LOVE your name (we rhyme with each other:). Have a great day.

There are studies that basically describe beets as being so good for runners it’s almost like legal doping. My husband planted beets this year and we have soooo many now. I was eating them every night for a couple of weeks up to my marathon and got a PR. During my training, I actually bought beet root powder and drank that about 30 minutes before my hard runs. Who knows if it really worked or just had a placebo effect, but it was at least healthy.

I love Skye with her Paw Patrol. My 4-year old is Paw Patrol everything and we have so many books now.

Reply

WHAT?! How have I waited so long for beets… these will really help my running ha. SO awesome that you guys planted your own and that you got your marathon PR (I’m sure your amazing training had something to do with it too but I’m off to go get beet root powder now)! Wish our little ones could get together to talk all things Paw Patrol!

I love beets. I always hated sour cream. Now I love it on a baked potato, but have never tried it on anything else.

Reply

The pictures of that salad are making me drool. Thank you, I’ll have to make that. I think you have found the best thing for sour cream but I do love it with taquitos too. Hope you have a great day, Jennifer!

Reply

I’ve always thought beets tasted too earthy but maybe I need to roast them? And with goat cheese? Yum! My 1st email was bagelny@? Man was I embarrassed when I went to a training class and everyone was using their names for emails and mine was bagels! Oh well! I love ‘making groceries’ as we say down south here. The displays, new items and the whole experience is fun. And tomatoes are so good, but as a kid I thought they were too slimy! ?

Reply

Ok, if you like beets you MUST go to blue lemon (in Highland or Salt Lake) and get the Roasted Utah Beet Salad and add salmon. It is the BEST and my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Hi Janae,

I shaved raw beets onto a salad this summer for the first time ever and turns out I love them too! Who knew?!? The recipe is from triedandtruemoms, who you turned me on to years ago. But basically I think grating a beet onto any salad will be delicious and makes me feel so healthy haha!

I’ve been to New York a few times and my accidental celebrity sighting was Britney Spears. But yours was way cooler since you were all just strolling with her.

Have a great day!

I love beets in salads.

As a Baby Boomer, email didn’t come into my life until I was in my 30s. I still have the same Yahoo email address ;)

I like ordering some groceries online, but I’m really picky about produce so I still prefer picking it out myself.

I use to hate fish, but now I love it. Funny story – the last guy I dated before I met Les told me I didn’t like fish because it wasn’t cooked right. (Actually, it was his full on lecture about the subject that helped me conclude he was not the one for me!) Years later, I decided he was actually corrected. I don’t love all fish, but a good flaky white fish, blackened, is really good.

I love the beet smoothie from Shalane’s cookbooks!

I used to hate oatmeal, couldnt get past the texture, but I recently tried and liked it finally!

Today is my birthday and very excited to be celebrating with my family! Living away from family makes holidays hard, but today will be fun.

I LOVE beets, but my husband thinks they taste like dirt, so I have the blessing of not having to share them :-)

I just ordered Levain cookies after seeing an Instagram post about them – they look amazing!

Reply

My first screen name/email was luckycharmzx06 LOL

We started doing grocery pickup right before covid- then began delivery. Now back to pick up but occasionally go to the store instead if I slack and dont get a meal plan/grocery list done on time.

Growing up I always disliked mustard, sour cream, mayo, and american cheese – I can now eat and love sour cream and mustard. Mayo and american cheese still on the back burner.

Reply

LOL, beets taste like dirt to me.

I don’t necessarily mind grocery shopping, but it’s just so darn convenient to just do an order pickup :)

I used to be such a picky eater as a child (control issues?) but I enjoy most foods now, besides beets and mashed potatoes (texture issue).

Reply

My first email was littlepinkcow183@aol. No idea why.

I love beets! Costco often has ready to eats beets in the refrigerated vegetable section.

Do you just love your peleton? I absolutely love mine and enjoy all the different teachers and classes.

I think I want to make a mask like your nieces, especially since I wear one all day at work.

Reply

I have over the past year found a new love for beets as well, my kids and husband think it’s disgusting. I (for the most part) shop for groceries online and do pick up. I’ve done this since COVID hit and not wanting to bring my kids into the store. I have found doing that minimizes my grocery bill, if I go in to the store, I spend way more!

Reply

I guess I’m going to be the only one commenting on the papparazzi pic. Thx. Heart it. Now we have 360 degrees. I like the view from Gigi’s perspective. This is part of celebrity life, probably most days.

Hi Janae,

I have never commented before but have been a reader for several years! I always look forward to your blog.

I am so excited you got a Peloton and it was so fun to see you follow back your blog readers on the app! I too am a big fan of Robin. I know several years ago you talked about how your whole family loved the Greatest Showman soundtrack. Did you know that Robin has a Greatest Showman ride?

Thanks for always being a ray of sunshine!

Reply

So glad you’ve found out you love beets! They’re so good in salads! You can buy them already roasted but doing it yourself is 10x tastier.. I promise it’s worth the hassle!!

Still using my old email address for junkmail! It’s definitely cringe worthy but great to have an email address I can give out when I don’t actually want to!

I love ordering my groceries online and select the “pick up in store” option. I feel like that way I get the best of both worlds.. I don’t have to walk around and grab everything I need, but I still get to come in store, quickly scan if anything is missing/substituted and also grab some last minute or fresh stuff :)

Foods I used to hate and now love… Eggplant & mushrooms (OK love is a big word but I definitely like them now!) ;)
