Run-On Sentence Per Picture

THIS MADE MY MORNING!  I ran into my sister and nephew out on a morning run!

My nephew is currently on his mission for our church.  Usually, missionaries go to a missionary training center for a few weeks before they leave to their assigned area but for the last little while, they have been doing the training in their homes!  He is almost done with his training (done through zoom) and will be leaving in a few days!  He was reassigned to go to Nashville (and will go to Peru soon) and he is so excited!

And I’m starting the run-on sentence per picture here….

Does anyone reading live in Nashville???

I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!! It’s getting close and I bet your boys are so so excited!

Love your little everyday stories! They just make me happy :)
I have found that washing my pillowcase more often really makes a difference in skin health. I’m not disciplined enough to change it every day, but every 2-3 days works well already.

Reply

Sarah, that means a lot to me. THANK YOU! I’ll try every 2-3 days now too, thank you so much for sharing. I hope you have the best day!

Hope he enjoys Nashville! I’ve been once and it was fun, lots of good food and loved all the live music.

I did a speed workout this morning (for the first time in a long time) and I was dead by the end. I walked my entire cool down. But my garmin says I’m improving! Small steps.

Reply

I really think he is going to love it! WAY TO GO ON THE SPEED WORKOUT! You are amazing and your garmin is right:)

Silk pillowcases are great for wrinkles too!
My derm recently prescribed Aklief for breakouts AND signs of aging (when I told him all my friends have now gotten botox and I’m the last holdout lol, he was like try this before we talk botox). And WOW. My skin looks SOOOOO much better! It’s a newer cream that’s only been on the market for a couple of years I think…I can see a huge difference after a month. In breakouts and in just general signs of aging. I generally just use more natural serums and creams, not rx’s, but I highly recommend!! My skin needed a little extra help, even at 35 haha. :)

Reply

REALLY??! Off to get it… thank you so much Mollie and I relate at 35 too! Hope you are having a great day!

I started getting into biking a few years ago when I wanted to do a triathlon! My husband doesn’t like running but loves to bike so that’s the thing we love to do together now. In our new neighborhood there are so many beautiful greenways and paths so we’ve been trying to go on a ride at least once a week before work. So much fun but I’m so scared to try mountain biking!

Reply

Gretchen, that is so so great that you guys bike together… I love it! Way to get out there and mountain biking was so scary yesterday so I see why you say that haha.

OK so I held out on this for a LONG time because I was sure it wouldn’t necessarily fix my issues, but … Curology really does work. I had done years of different products and even worked with a dermatologist maybe 5-6 years ago (which totally destroyed my skin)… but Curology is the only thing that has curbed my hormonal breakouts. It worked pretty much immediately. I am never going back :) The other thing that I started doing around the same time was taking a pre & probiotic that really works for my body.

Reply

That’s what I think my problem is… hormonal (because I never had zits during pregnancy and for the first few months afterward). Good to hear about the probiotics, I can’t wait to try! Hope your day is a beautiful one and

M&M cookies are my FAVORITE! Like chocolate chip cookies, but 100x more fun.

I try to change my pillowcases twice a week, and I find it helps my skin SO much (even if it’s more like every 5 days). And I keep reminding myself to NOT TOUCH MY FACE! So hard!

I haven’t ridden my bike in forever, but growing up I would ride all over and always saw the coolest things! So many eagles and osprey. Those were really good times!

Reply

It had been way too long since my last M&M cookie, I need them in my life way more! Ugggggg I needed to hear that about not touching my face, I do it so much! I would love to see an eagle on a ride. Hope you have a beautiful day and thanks for sharing!

Skye looks just like Brooke in the pool pic! WOw! I had to do a double take.

Speaking of lookalikes, do you think Knox looks like Andrews dad so much!? Wow!

Reply

It’s so funny because I see a bit of Brooke and Knox in Skye! I totally agree with you about Knox and Andrew’s dad, and I see some similarities in Beck and his dad too! I hope you are having a really great morning, Mallory!

Aloha Janae! My favorite place to ride is my Peloton :-) Oahu roads make me too nervous to venture out on a real bike. I am a devoted fan to the company, I use their app so much I feel like I know the instructors personally. It is my daily therapy and team building time and has helped me with growing in meditation practice, which is a bonus outside of the run/bike/strength classes. Now if I could only find the motivation for their stretching classes, lol!

I am going to try silk pillows again but I really notice a difference when my water intake is low….my skin starts barking at me.

Reply

You are making me want to buy a peloton right this second! It sounds perfect and I am so glad it has been so perfect for you (and now I really need it)! Off to up my water today! Hope you are having a beautiful day and that you had a great ride this morning!

Reply

Hi Janae! My brother attended undergrad at Vanderbilt University in Nashville and LOVED IT!!! I visited him a couple times there and Nashville is such a fun city. It must be a tough time to be a missionary what with all the changes, but good for him for having great perspective.

And look at you on that mountain bike!! Go Janae!!

And Jim says hi back to you both!! :)

Reply

Really?! Oh this makes me so happy to hear! Thank you friend and I hope you and Jim have the best day!

Nashville native. Love my hometown. So many great things to do. Email me if you ever decide to visit, and I can send you a list. There are some great parks with trails for running and tons of delicious restaurants. I know your nephew will enjoy his time here!

Reply

I am 100% planning on visiting. One of my best friends recently moved there too. I might make you meet me on one of those running trails:). Hope your day is a beautiful one!

Reply

Forgive me if this sounds kind of “crazy”….is your nephew’s last name Gerber? That is my maiden name.

Reply

It sure is! Where are you from?

Regarding skin care – I swear by the Soko Glam routine. This actually does not seem simple at first. There are multiple steps and so many products to choose from. There is some trial and error. While there are technically at least 10 steps people can reduce it down to the number of steps that work for them. It is a layering system. I’ve been using the Soko method for skin care for over 2 years and it definitely works! Check out this website – https://sokoglam.com/

This also explains the steps – https://sokoglam.com/pages/the-korean-skin-care-routine

Again – this system is a bit to get used to – but so worth it in the end.

Kristie, I cannot thank you enough for taking the time out of your day to help me. Off to go read all about it, thank you SO much!

My son is headed to Nashville to serve a mission. He leaves next Wednesday, the 28th. Maybe he’ll meet your nephew!

No way!!!!

What mountain bike are you using? I’m in the market for a new one, although it looks like there are slim pickings in stores right now. Looks like a fun date!

Another question: how do you deal with the SLC weather? I’m still hoping to move there, but I’ve been a bit put off by the daily weather reports that haven’t dipped below 90 degrees in over a month…

Reply

Yesterday I used Andrew’s bike–> YT jeffsy 29er
I wouldn’t have survived on my bike because it is cheap ha. Andrew was so nice to switch me!
Luckily, it isn’t hot like this for long… maybe six weeks?! It is challenging but I do more inside when it is the hottest part of the day! I think you will love it here and hopefully, you can swim often when it is really hot ha. Also, my body really does acclimate to it each year and I bet yours will too!

Reply

Thank you! I’ll check the bike out!

People always ask me what I use on my skin and I just laugh because all I use is Oil of Olay face wash and moisturizer. Good genes at work ;)

Les grew up in Nashville and his parents lived there when we were first married. It’s a great place but I don’t know my way around at all – I just go with whomever we’re with.

What a fun date! Les and I rode out together this morning – I did about 15 miles and he’s still gone. I used the Strava app and tracked “live segments” – these are segments that I’ve ridden a lot and when I got close to one, it would pop up on my screen then start tracking against my previous best time. 8 PRs this morning! This is only available with Strava Premium, so it might be something I’ll keep. Les uses live segments and can send them to his Garmin. My Suunto doesn’t have that ability, so I won’t use live segments when I’m running, just on the bike with my phone mounted on my handlebar.

Reply

Good genes… LUCKY!:) That is so cool that Les grew up in Nashville! I love that you two ride together so much! Super cool about the live segments and EIGHT PRS!! You are on fire!!

Mountain biking scares me! So does some road biking, I guess I feel like I have more control when I run.

My dermatologist recommended a makeup face wash (like a wipe) then a gentle cleaner like Cetaphil, then Differin (used to only be Rx but now you can get it over the counter at Target or Amazon), then a moisturizer and this has been working well for me. I had to build up to the Differin every night because it dries my skin.

Reply

It really was so scary, I don’t know how Andrew goes so fast! THANK YOU for sharing… that combo sounds perfect. Happy Thursday, Marissa!

I lived in Nashville for a long time and absolutely loved it! I’m sure your nephew will too! There is so much to do and see and the people I met were amazing. I moved there right out of college for AmeriCorps and knew nobody but was able to find a community really quickly. I still miss it!

Reply

Susan, this is so good to hear. Thank you for sharing! I hope you are able to go back and visit soon!

Breakouts are so annoying. This is what works for my skin: I use a salicylic acid toner once/day when my skin is breaking out. For me this happens for one week out of a month. You can get it at Target/Walmart/CVS, and it’s just a few dollars. I put some on a cotton ball and wipe my face with it. And nothing else. I don’t wash my face. I wash my face with just water in the shower.

Reply

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! A cheap option sounds really good right now….
Have the best day Dena!

So serious! We’re a humble little branch but the work is on fire and there’s been a lot of success here lately. We love our hard working elders! It’s only been two weeks since they’ve been allowed back into homes for dinner appointments and we’re so happy to have them!

I LOVE NASHVILLE!!!! I live 2 hrs south in Chattanooga, but all my husband’s family is in Brentwood (Nashville suburb). It is beautiful……rolling hills, huge farms, giant mansions…….I especially love the historic mansions from civil war, and the tiny town of Leipers Fork…..that’s where my favorite half marathon of all time used to happen, and running past horses and just countryside was breathtaking. I could gush about Tennessee all day:)

Reply

That is so so cool! Oh I am so excited for my nephew! Sounds like an amazing place!

Reply

I live in East Tennessee……about 4 hrs away from Nashville. Your Nephew will love Nashville! He will have to head east sometime to explore our East TN Mountains! We have great mountain biking! My husband is co-owner of a bike shop out here and I try to ride with him some, but don’t always have the technique needed to stay on my bike ?. My 6 yr old daughter has started to MTN bike some and is better than I am!

Reply

This makes me SO happy to hear. Maybe we will all come out and visit and then mountain bike with you guys. That is SO awesome that your husband is co-owner of a bike shop and that you ride with him! Your daughter sounds amazing! I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Love Nashville but I live in Chattanooga! If you ever visit please let me know! :)

I totally will. I would love to meet you! I hope you have the best day!

I live in Memphis but Nashville is only 3 hours away. I’ve been so many times for races and to see friends. There’s a ton to do in Nashville! If you come visit, I’ll definitely drive the 3 hours to get a run in with a group!

Thank you so much Sloan for sharing! I’m actually texting my friend that lives there right now to say I want to come out and visit! I WOULD LOVE TO RUN WITH YOU!!!

Skin is so hard and definitely unique for each one of us. BUT I have been on a journey and feel like I’ve been in a really great place with my skin for the past year+ and am happy to share if it will help you find your happy skin place quicker.
1. go to the derm and get the RX’s. i use Retin-A (in the PM), Dapsone 5% (in the AM), and take Spironolactone – the caveat is that these are things you can’t use when you’re pregnant. I also want to share that I tried to go the more natural route at first and IT DID NOT WORK for me.
2. wash your face at night 2x in a row and massage your soap into your face for 30-60s each time. bonus if you have a makeup remover cloth to help get your daily grime off as well.
3. sunscreen and lots of it! i use a moisturizer with SPF as well as an additional either SPF or BB cream with SPF on top. i NEVER go outside without sunscreen on my face.
4. Sunday Riley Good Genes is a great addition to use 2-3x (in PM) each week; i rotate it with my Retin-A.
There are plenty of wonderful products out there at a variety of price points. I am always happy to share exactly what I use, but we’re all different and the most important part for me was getting the RX’s from the derm, wearing sunscreen, and thoroughly washing my face with a gentle cream cleanser.

Reply

oh! and i second the silk pillowcase that you wash every 3-4 days. :)

Wow! A scary movie AND mountain biking – Andrew must be so psyched about all you’re doing outside of your comfort zone!! I am most definitely not a bike person. I always say maybe…if they mount a recliner on a bike frame. Nope – a recumbent bike won’t get it done. I mean an actual recliner on an actual bike frame!!
I find that remembering to wash my face (even if it’s just with a makeup removal wipe) after workouts helps a lot with my skin. I also use a face wash with salicylic acid in it and a witch hazel toner (with rose water or cucumber). The toner used to be so cheap before it got a lot of media hype. Now it costs more, but still pretty reasonable considering a bottle lasts a long time. Easy to find at Walmart/Target and the like.
My sentence of the day…”No rain and 55 degrees when I ran this morning – WAHOO!!”
Have an awesome rest of your day, Janae!!

Lately I switched to a miceller water for my skin and love it!

I found that MTB helped my running so much! We want to go to Utah to ride. My youngest son and I watch a guy from Utah on YouTube ( MTB Porter) and we see all the amazing bike and trail parks there! Enjoy!!!
