SHOULD I DO IT–> Opinions Needed.

Getting out the door for my run on Saturday was harder than ever.  My body was pooped from speed work the day before and I didn’t have anybody to meet so the fact I started the run was pretty much a miracle.  I came home glad that I did it but it was a rough one.  8 miles @ 8:41 average pace and I was just so happy to be done.

My feet have been really achy/rigid for a few weeks but I whipped these bad boys out again and my feet are so much happier after using them whenever I am home.  I NEED support when I am home walking around on the wood floor and these always help them to feel a lot better and they last forever.

This was a Mother’s Day weekend miracle…. Skye just wanted to sit down on the couch, snuggle and read for a while.

IMG 3208

I told Andrew that all I wanted for Mother’s Day was really good food and a REALLY clean car.  A large sippy cup of milk was recently spilled (I’m not going to name any names;) on the carpet of my car and now after Andrew cleaned it my car doesn’t smell like rotten milk anymore, hallelujah!

IMG 3224

Brooke had her last soccer game of the season!

IMG 3223

Skye is counting down the days until she is 4 and she can be on a team.

IMG 3212

Gotta love it when a 6 pm nap happens in the car…

IMG 3235

We had my sister’s boys over on Saturday night and Skye insisted on Beck sitting on her lap while they watched a show.

IMG 3240

Sunday was as low key and lazy as possible.  Andrew and the kids brought in a delicious breakfast.

IMG 3247

And we spent a lot of time on the couch.

IMG 3287

I did get out of pjs for church but that’s it:)

IMG 3276

7 layer bars for the win (without the walnuts:).

IMG 3288

I need your opinion on something important (that isn’t actually important in the slightest).  I’ve had the same hairstyle for a very long time and I’m feeling the need for a big change.  I saw this hairstyle below and loved it and I’m considering going for it (cut and color)!   I think it will be long enough to still have it in a ponytail for running but I just need you to tell me what to do.

IMG 3233 jpg

Let’s be honest, I’ll probably wuss out last second because I haven’t changed my hair since I was in junior high but if you talk me into it, I will.

IMG 3315

——————————————————————————————————————-

Should I cut my hair?!  I hate making decisions.  Do you change up your hair often or not so much?  How often do you cut it?

Who else loves oofos?  Do you need supportive shoes/sandals when you aren’t running?

Does a messy car drive you crazy or not bother you or somewhere in between?

Nuts in desserts?

-No if I have a choice but I’ll still eat it if I don’t have a choice.

Coco Chanel said “a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” I recently cut 7” off mine and I love it! It’s so much easier to take care of during triathlon training! Plus the bonus is it will
Always grow back! Go for it!

Okay, that quote is enough right there to get me to do it! I am so happy to hear that you are loving yours. And triathlon training–> give me more details! Thanks friend and I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Training for my first Olympic distance in July. Have about 10 sprint distance tris under my belt so it’s time to step up my game! Shorter hair = win in the pool, on the bike, and on the run.

JANAE – DO IT!!!!! That hairstyle would look AMAZING on you and I think that length of hair is one of those lengths that looks amazing on everyone because it will bring out your amazing features! I did the same thing a few years ago and I HAVE NEVER GONE BACK TO LONG HAIR BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH! Also it’ll be lighter for summer which might feel good! If you don’t love it, that style is still long enough that it will quickly grow back into longer hair! Keep us posted!

Reply

YES to the hair!!! Let’s be honest, your hair is GOALS either way but that would be so so cute.

Reply

I LOVE HEARING THIS! I have a feeling once I do it, I’ll never go back too. I’m going to do it! Thank you!!!

Reply

That haircut would look stunning on you!! Go for it girl, be wild!!!

Reply

Thanks Triny! You guys have convinced me! I’m so excited! Have a beautiful day and I love your name!

Reply

You shouldn’t do it haha! I actually really like the hairstyle but I am like you…I have my own hair color….long and straight always but after I had my son I NEEDED a change and so I cut and colored it and I hated it until it grew back out haha! I guess I am a creature of habit. So anytime someone asks me if they should make a big change I say no because I hated it when I did mine!

Reply

AHHHHH I feel like I’m a creature of habit too! Andrew is totally the opposite of me with this… I need to learn from him! Now I’m second guessing again haha. I hope you have the best day Colleen and thanks for the help!

Long bob looks great on everyone! and it will grow back pretty quick if you don’t like it ;)

Reply

Do it!! I recently got my hair cut for the first time since COVID hit. I chopped 11 inches (to a very similar length as that pic) and got to donate it to make a wig for children with cancer. I felt so incredibly light and swishy! And the best thing is that hair grows back! I think you’d look great with the cut, and you can always go long again after.

Reply

HEY NIKKI! 11 inches… and you donated it for a child with cancer. You are amazing! I need to look up to see if I would have enough to donate. Thank you so much Nikki for sharing, I’m excited for that light feeling. Have a beautiful Monday!

Reply

SO SO true… that is a huge plus about this, I can always grow it back! Have the best day, Nina!

Janae,
You would look AMAZING with that haircut!!!!! DO IT!!!! I have a long bob and LOVE it. Especially with kids- easier to take care of. You will feel lighter for your runs too :)
Either way, you will look great.

Reply

I love the hairstyle and think it’ll look great on you!! We all need a change and a pick me up these days It won’t take long to grow back if you hate it so why not try it?!

Reply

I think that cut and color would look great in you! I love changing my hair up. Good luck!!

Reply

I was thinking of you yesterday and hoping you were having a great Mother’s Day!! Brooke, Knox, Skye, and Beck sure are lucky to have you and I hope you felt especially loved yesterday. You are just such a special person!

Reply

Do it!! I was like you and had the same longggg hair since I was a kid… then I cut it shoulder length about a year ago and have been maintaining it! I love it. At first I hated it but it grew on me!

I HATE walking around barefoot inside. I never do it. It’s my moccasin slippers (Manitoba mukluks) with orthotics or birks. I need to try oofos!!

Funny my husband cleaned my car too. I wouldn’t say it drives me crazy but it does feel so nice when it’s clean.

Reply

If changing up your hair brings you joy then do it! You can always grow it back out, recolor, etc if you decide you don’t like it.

Reply

Yes, do it!!! That would be a great style on you and a change would be fun. Plus for summer it could be easier to take care of. And it will grow back if you don’t like it. I cut mine every 6 weeks. Color (foil for highlights) every 3 months.
Shoes/sandals are a must have when at home. I have a few foot issues so barefoot isn’t an option for long periods of time.
I can live with a messy car for a little while then gotta clean it. Smelly is a deal breaker, have to fix it immediately.
Nuts in dessert, yes, but will eat it either way. Love nuts!! Have a great day!!

Reply

Do it!!! Hair grows back and color fades!

Reply

Get the haircut! I think you’ll look amazing!

Reply

That’s my haircut!!!! No joke that looks super similar to the picture I took to the salon when I first got my long hair chopped off. I even got the same kind of balayage (highlights that I can’t spell). I got it cut a bit shorter late last year and it’s now grown out to that shoulder length level again. It’s such a flattering cut. I’ve been thinking of growing mine out for a bit just for the ease of a braid but whenever I *actually do my hair* it looks really cute so I keep wavering.
The ONLY thing I don’t like is you have to do your hair. Sometimes I miss being able just to do a fishtail braid when it’s wet and then let it dry and have the waves. I’m terrible with the curling iron so I usually straighten mine. I think the best thing about this cut though is that it still has a “long ish” feel but it’s sooo light.
Do it. I think you’ll love it. And, if you prefer long hair when it’s done, it will grow back quickly. :)

Reply

Love that hairstyle! You have a stylist for a sister so she can definitely show you how to maintain it. I do t know how to style my hair so I just keep it simple. Let it dry flat.

Reply

That style would look so nice on you..you could pull any style off anyways and it will grow back if you don’t like it. It would be a nice change.
My husband usually cleans my car, and does an amazing job but I asked for a car detailing appt. for Mothers day:) nothing better than a clean car!!
I need to get those sandals. I have a bad back and my knees often hurt, i think those would be great.
Have an awesome day!! Keep us posted on your hair decision :)

Reply

1000% do it!!!!!

Love my oofos- I bought them because of you and they were the only reason (plus epsom salt recovery baths) that I made it through my marathon training last year.

Reply

The shorter cut would look great on you! Go for it!

Reply

Do it! Last September I had my hair dye for the first time, very much like that photo and I love it. In fact, I am going back this Saturday to get a trim and maybe go a bit lighter. I do love my natural color through so I am sure I will eventually grow it completely out, but for now it is a nice change.

Also, oofos save me after long runs! I don’t know how I had gone so long without them.

Reply

I love that hairstyle and it will look great on you! It’s plenty long enough for a pony tail. Now I want to cancel my hair appointment for next month and let it grow out to be the picture you posted. I think I’m going to save it. I may or may not be a big old copy cat. I also may dye it pink again.
I can handle a bit of a mess in my car because that goes along with having kids. I can’t stand a lot of trash or anything that smells.
Nuts in desserts…….a big fat NOOOOO!!!!!! I will pick them out while I’m eating. I don’t care if I’m an adult and it people think I’m acting like a two year old.
Have a great week!

Reply

Go for the cut! I am totally with you in having a grand plan prior to the appointment and once I arrive…”just a trim please”. But I have learned, it will grow back quick and that length is definitely long enough for pony. Plus, it will feel nice and light for the hotter months!

Love Oofos and Birkenstocks – they really help when I have PF flares. I really prefer being barefoot, but my feet don’t always agree.

That is exactly how I make seven layer bars – no nuts. I like nuts ok, but agree, not preferred in desserts.

Reply

Looks great! If you do it I’ll do it too! I usually grown my hair until it’s long enough to donate, then clip donate a d grow again (because I am boring and this gives me a reason for a cut). I rarely dry it, only if I am really in a hurry, and skip washes whenever I can ?like when I haven’t gotten sweaty).

I also love oofos. I use them at the Y (poolside, shower), but also around the house if my feet are achy.

I have a subscription to Camel car wash and get 2-3 washes a month. They look at me funny as I have to take all me magents and my antenna fob off before driving through. They have super power vacuums after, which I use occasionally, and also mat washers now, which I have not used yet. I have to keep a trash bag in my car bc kids create more trash than adultly possible.

I like walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts or pistachios in desserts (hello pistachio ice cream) but avoid pecans or cashews.

Reply

Cut the hair! You’ll be like “why didn’t I do this sooner?” Plus, like other readers have said…it will grow back and then you can do it all over again. :)
My car has to be clean or I feel like my life is spiraling out of control. It’s something I can control, so I like to keep it clean!
Giant “NO” on nuts in desserts.

Reply

Love that hairstyle! You should do it! It’s definitely long enough for a ponytail still. I love to change my hair. It always grows back!
I should have asked for a clean car for Mother’s a Day. Crazy how dirty kids can be.

Reply

Absolutely do it! It will look and feel so good and healthy And I agree, as long as I can pull my hair back in a ponytail, all is right with the world. :)

Reply

Why don’t you do the cut and hold off on the color? Then if you like it, you can do the color another time. The cut is much more manageable to deal with or hide in case you DIDN’T like it. However, I think you’d look great.

I actually wear the Ooofos slides inside the house instead of house slippers. My husband does, too. They really help my feet.

Reply

Love that haircut!

What a sweet weekend! You deserve all the cuddles and clean smelling car =)

I think the color would look amazing on you! I also think the short would look so cute. I have had mine long FOREVER too, I have lots of wavy hair so I thought I would chop over a foot off a couple years ago and I assumed it would be easier, but it wasn’t It was actually harder to maintain shorter for me….I didn’t love it and grew it back out.

I hope you have a WONDERFUL Monday, cheers to a new week!

Reply

DO IT!!!! It’s just hair lol

Reply

I think it looks like a hairstyle that takes quite a bit of styling to get it that way and if you’re used to a low-key long hair style that’s easy to take care of, I think you will be frustrated with this and likely find it pulled back in a ponytail regardless. If you want the hairstyle just knowing that you will style it that way for special occasions, that might work, but on a day to day basis, I don’t see this as a practical pick.

Reply

Cut it off for sure! The beauty of hair is that is grows back. I bet you’ll even realize how much easier it is to throw up before a run!

Reply

DO THE HAIR THING!! I think it will look great on you, but also–it’s just hair. It will grow again if you hate it.

Reply

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!

Reply

You should 100% do that hairstyle – since your hair so long / healthy, it’ll grow back SO fast once you cut it anyway, so if you don’t like it… and also…I know that you “run” hot like I do, it’s nice to have it OFF your neck in the heat of the summer. I would cut it NOW, so it’s grown back by the time winter hits and you want the extra layer again. =) Also that would look FABULOUS on you!

Reply

You know, before you decide for sure on the haircut you could try a couple products–like a texturizing spray or one of those saltwater sprays meant to mimic oceanwater and see how consistently you use the products to make the style work, and see if partially drying your hair and letting waves settle in and having that tousled look/loosely parted to the side look be a thing for you. That way you can sample the idea before putting in the investment! And worst case scenario, you’re just out a few bucks for a couple hair products from Ulta or Sephora (or an amazon order…). OR, the other thought, is that you wind up loving the idea but you want it to “look right” and you take some photos like the one you posted to your hair stylist and ask her to complete the idea for you with layers and color! When you do ask your stylist about the change in your look, you should also ask her what maintenance looks like and if it will mean more frequent visits to the salon than your current schedule (it could wind up being a dealbreaker for you, or it could mean more chances to leave the kiddos with a relative and have even a little bit more “me time” than your current salon visit schedule).

I’m thinking of getting a longer bob haircut next time I see my stylist (which is thankfully on Saturday–it’s been a bit too long!!!). My stylist knows that I only have a couple requirements: will it look good, will it grow out well, can I get away with maybe ONE product in my hair and blow drying about 50% most of the time, and can I throw my hair in a ponytail when it’s time to go to the gym? Once all those boxes are checked, she has free reign over my hair. She’s the expert, not me!!!

Your mother’s day sounds excellent. I want a seven layer bar, but if I make the whole recipe, I WILL EAT THEM ALL. (Now I fully understand the desire for many kids, big families in the same town, or being in larger communities of people who all get together regularly–to have a reason to bake all the yummy recipes WITHOUT eating all the finished product!!! lol…)

My car right now is messier than I would like. I don’t mind a few visible signs of clutter–maybe as tack of printed out choreography notes somewhere in the back seat for a few RPM and Sprint releases, my cloth bag with my teaching equipment, my yoga mat–but I have PILES of things right now. It’s a bit much. I need to clean out SOON, and I desperately need to take my car to the car wash soon. Since I am getting my hair cut on Saturday and that’s in the direction of my salon, that might be part of my plans for the day (unless that weekend’s weather forecast is heavy rain…)

I am somewhere in between for the car. But my mothers day gift to myself was a car detailing. He is in my driveway now cleaning and i am so excited!!
No nuts but sadly my most favorite carrot cake only comes with walnuts now so I suck it up and eat them.

DO IT! I LOVE that hairstyle and it will definitely be long enough for you to have “long hair” still! Plus, your hair is gorgeous, so it will look good no matter what. :-)

So happy you had a good Mother’s Day!!! I recognize that book you’re reading—one of our favorites!

Definitely do it – life is too short to not have fun with your hair. Personally I prefer a bit shorter hair on myself! Plus, that isn’t too crazy short so it’ll grow fast if you don’t like it. Super cute though!

Oofos are the best! My husband bought me some as a surprise and then he bought himself some too! haha.

Reply

Good morning!! Glad you had a nice Mother’s Day!
About your hair…YES, YES, YES!!!! It will look terrific on you!! I’ve had my hair long, short, with bangs, without bangs, highlighted, colored, and currently transitioning to natural color in a shade I like to refer to as “pandemic silver”. Here’s the thing – it’s just hair! It grows out again, so any change is as temporary as you want it to be. Be brave and DO IT!!!
I haven’t tried Oofos yet, but am thinking about it, thanks to you. I used to go barefoot all the time with no problem, but now hardwood and tile make them ache, so shoes specifically for inside the house are becoming a necessity.
A messy car drives me bananas, yet seems inevitable with the wacky weather and all the activities we are involved in. I try and give it a deep clean a couple of times a year, but otherwise, I put blinders on LOL. I have a friend who cleans her car every single weekend! I’m a little jealous, but also not, because I can always find something more fun to do!!
Love nuts in just about anything – pecans and walnuts are my favorites in desserts :o)
Here’s to another Monday to kick off an awesome week!!

Reply

Cut it!! That haircut would look amazing on you!! Plus it’ll always grow out of you decide you like longer hair. Every time I get my hair cut (twice a year because I’m bad about going regularly), I cut multiple inches off, and then let it grow out. It’s fun to switch it up!

Also, Brooke looks so tall in that soccer picture!

Yes to the hair!! You can always grow it back out if you don’t like it.

Yes, 100% go for it, love that style and color!!!

One million percent yes on the hairstyle!!! I’m also considering a major chop, but similarly will probably wuss out ;)

I told my husband all I wanted for my birthday was a clean and detailed car and a clean house. Cleaners come Wednesday and he is detailing my car this weekend. Plus he we had GREAT sushi for my birthday and a chocolate cake. He is a keeper!

Reply

1000% yes on the haircut!

Reply

Love that hair cut! My hair is down right past my boobs like 90% of the time. Every 5 years or so I feel the need to chop it shoulder length. It’s always a good change for a bit, and like everyone else says, it does grow back.. :) The color is something I still haven’t done. I cut my hair about once a year as I don’t straighten/curl it much, and I can’t imagine going in every 6-8 weeks to maintain it.. more of a lazy problem on my side though!

And on the car, I can handle a little dust or dirt on my weathertech mats, but I can’t handle the stuff. It has to at least be picked up!

Reply

Definitely go for the hair cut, Janae!! You will feel like a million bucks and it will be nice to have a fresh cut for the summer!

I loved seeing all the cute faces in this post. The pic of Skye, Beck, and your nephew watching a show together really made me smile, soooo adorable!!

Reply

Yes to the hair! I don’t do much with my hair so I’ve been in a pattern of grow it long for a few years and then cut off 10 inches for Locks for Love and donate it. Then keep it short for a little bit and grow it again to cut off and donate. I’ve donated my hair 5 times now in the last 20 years.

Reply

My hair was that length for YEARS – I was too afraid to do anything differently. It was such a pain because the length was such that it required attention all the time. It was too long to be short and easy, but too short to hide any messiness. I had to wash and dry it just about every day because it was never long or heavy enough to naturally pull out ponytail holder marks after a workout and if I let it dry naturally after a wash, it just looked gross and unkempt. I’ve actually been trying to grow mine longer for the couple of years and have found maintenance to be SOOOO much easier now. I can go for 2-3 days between washing now and my ponytail will fall in front of my left shoulder as if it’s cute and intentional . Before, my ponytail was always behind and it looked like I never had any hair. All that being said, your hair is beautiful, as are you, and nothing is permanent. If you don’t like it, you can always grow it back out.

Reply

DO IT! Shorter hair = more volume at the roots and easier maintenance. I love when my hair is short enough that washing and drying it is a quick process, but I can still throw it back into a ponytail.

Reply

This sounds like my dream right here… a quick process, yes please! Excited for some volume too! Have a beautiful day Jen and thanks for sharing:)

go for it! your head will feel so light- I predict 1 minute off your marathon time for every inch you cut ;)

I love the church dress so cute!

Hope you had a great Mother’s Day

Reply

I agree! I think you should chop it! I get the worse knots in my ponytails when I run and swim – I’m sure you know what I’m talking about – I seriously debate chopping mine off at least once a week just to avoid the dreadful knotted tangled hair issue lol.

I’m incredibly jealous of your freedom where you live. We just got put back in another lockdown, my kids are back to online learning for 3 weeks as of today…along with hair salons and restaurants closing again..it’s wearing on me so I’m insanely grateful for your blog and the ray of sunshine it brings me each day!

Good call on the car cleaning for Mother’s Day. That is by far the greatest gift lol!

Reply

I think your hair would look lovely like that. I’m always too scared to cut mine though. I cut it once when I was about 10 into a bob and hated it so never did it again. But that’s not so short. It still looks longish so would grow out quick. And I think it would really suit you! And would be cool for the summer. I’ve had the same haircut for 20 years and for 10 years in there I had a fringe as well but that grown out since I really got consistent with running, it was a pain to have a fringe.

I’ve never worn oofos but definitely need supportive shoes. Wear Birkenstock’s since they are quite supportive. Jandals are the worst and I always get sore feet and ankles in those.

I despise a messy car but also it’s hard to keep clean and tidy with kids! It’s my favourite thing when the hubby cleans it out. I’m going to remember that for next Mother’s Day as a gift ?

I quite like nuts in desserts I think. Probably depends on the dessert but I’m thinking baklava or maple walnut icecream or something. I do love both those things!

Reply

Do it!!! Why not?!

Reply

I vote yes on the haircut. Of course, my cut is similar so I’m biased. It’s the perfect running length to A.) stay off your neck, B.) can still be bunned, C.) washes and dried quickly with less product.

Reply

1. Yes. Cut your hair. It will grow back if you hate it. Hair is one of those low-risk changes we can easily make.
2. I bought my husband some Oofos for his b-day last year as he was having significant foot pain. He thought I was silly and that they looked stupid. But he wore them anyway. And guess what? His foot pain disappeared. Boom.

Reply

obsessed w/ my oofos! i have hardwood and need the support, too. so glad i found them!
do it w/ your hair girl! you’ll look AMAZING. i haven’t changed mine for a few years now; cut 2-3x/year and balayage 1x/year. i’m super inspired by that pic you posted, though…
