Roles Reversed + Friday Favorites/Unfavorite!

The roles reversed yesterday.  Andrew went mountain biking at 5:30 a.m. and came home in the best mood and when he got home I was still in bed (this is usually the reverse on his days off because he stays up way later than I do).

It’s amazing what exercise does for us… it wakes us up, gives us energy and puts us in the best mood.

BUT it also felt reallllllll nice to sleep in as long as possible.

That above long sleeve lasted for one minute during the run, it felt SO good outside!  Emilee and I did 9 miles @ 8:09 average.

IMG 0316

A few hours later and we decided we needed a lunch date (with Skye and Beck too:).

IMG 0331

Both of us were feeling extra hungry so we went for 10 inch tall burgers from 7 Brothers.

IMG 0333

Skye has joined in on the jogger trend.  PS if you are needing joggers yourself, these ones here are THE BEST $14 you will ever spend.

IMG 0336

And she is just so happy that she can finally open the car door all by herself.

IMG 0343

Brooke’s dad is coming to Utah today to spend the weekend with her so Brooke and I spent a little one-on-one time together last night.

IMG 0346

She is growing up really fast and I love hearing about everything going on in her world right now.

IMG 0349

It’s my mom’s birthday today!  She is just the best and I feel like I am the luckiest to have her.  Feel free to wish her a happy birthday:). She reads the comments each and every day so she feels like she knows you guys too!

————————————————————————————————————

I have a few Friday Favorites to chat about with you today….

*Yes Day on Netflix!  It was SUCH a fun movie to watch as a family and now the kids are begging us to do a Yes Day at our house!

*I love children’s books so so much and my neighbor told me about this one and it is another one of those books that will just always make me tear up.  It’s so good and the illustrations are beautiful.

IMG 0233

*Remember a year ago when I was complaining about not being able to find Windex at the store and people recommended to me to get these e-cloths instead?  I’m STILL obsessed with them a year later and I never have to buy any window cleaners because I just use these still on all of our windows.  They work like MAGIC.

IMG 9866

*I shared these sandals with you last year and cannot wait to wear them all spring/summer again this year.  They are JUST LIKE my Birkenstocks but more comfortable and way cheaper.  They have so many different colors.  As runners we need to make sure that we wear sandals that give us proper support for our feet and these do the trick!  $25 and they fit true to size!  I’m going to get these ones for this summer too.

IMG 5170

*Spring and summer running laundry… it can all fit in one hand.  Between Andrew and me,  I will probably do 2 fewer loads of laundry per week now that we aren’t wearing 12 layers when we (well, mostly me;) exercise.

IMG 0323

And for this week’s (funny) unfavorite thing….

Skye now knows how to unplug the camera/monitor in her room.  She climbs out of her crib unplugs her camera and then parties in there until we realize she is awake haha. We figured out how to have it notify us now when it gets unplugged now!  This girl is SMART and I feel like this is just the beginning…

————————————————————————————————————

Have any favorite things from this last week??  Unfavorite?

How often do you do laundry?

-I do at least one load a day right now.

Have a favorite children’s book?  Reading anything good right now?

Tell me something you are looking forward to this weekend!

I do at least a load of laundry every other day..there’s 4 of us in our house. Laundry is my least favourite choir! I need those windex wipes..I have a dog who likes to drool on the living room window and it drives me crazy haha. I could literally clean it 5 times a day!
I bought those birk knock offs last year after your recommendation and I have birks but prefer these!! Can’t beat the price either :)
My daughter and I watched “yes day” last weekend. She keeps asking for a yes day too haha. Have a great weekend

Reply

You absolutely need them… all you do is get one of the towels wet! It really is magic and Beretta does the same thing on our window haha. I feel your pain! That makes me so happy that you love these sandals too, they are the best. Hahaha good luck with that yes day! PS podcasts save me with laundry and sometimes make me look forward to it (even though I hate doing it)! Thanks Ashlea!

Happy birthday to HRG mom!! Her posts on your blog are still my favorite. ;)
Um, do they have matching vans??? That is the cutest! I just got my son new Vans a couple of weeks ago, they are the most adorable kids shoes.
I’ve been wondering if the kids would like Yes Day. Jennifer Garner is the best, we’ll have to watch it this weekend!
It’s my daughter’s 6th birthday this weekend! WHAT?? We’ll be celebrating (at Chuck e cheese). I also have a time trial that I’m not looking forward too lol. I wanted to find a race but still not that much around here.
Have a great weekend!

Reply

Hey Mollie! They are matching and it makes me so happy:). I agree, they are my favorite kids shoes. HAPPIEST birthday to your daughter and how is she now six?! GOOD LUCK on the time trial and please let me know how it goes!

My daughter and I love reading all Robert Munsch books! I love them all as a kid too and they never get old!

Reply

THANK YOU for sharing! They are a great price and I just ordered ‘Something Good’ and I can’t wait to get it. Have a beautiful weekend Jane!

Laundry . . . every 1-2 weeks! I have occasionally gone longer, and then REALLY regretted it when I had to do all that folding.

I love Emily Winfield Martin! She has a cool book called The Imaginaries that’s just fantastical pictures. Other favorite picture book creators–The Fan Brothers, Jonathan Stutzman, Sophie Blackall, and Christian Robinson! I’m reading Lord of the Rings for the first time and I am SO into it.

Happy happy birthday to your mom!

Reply

THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your favorites with me, I’m going to check them all out. Hahaha I regret my decision to take a break from laundry too. Thanks friend and I hope your weekend is a beautiful one!

Skye looks so cute in her joggers, style goals! Also, Brooke does seem to be growing up so quickly, why do kids grow up so fast?! My oldest niece is turning 7 this summer and I do not know where the time goes.

Favorites of the week- I finally got my Girl Scout cookies in the mail (I ordered online from a local troop) and the S’mores ones are so good! Highly recommend. Favorite and unfavorite- sun staying out until 7 pm, but also not rising until after 7 am haha.

Reply

I MUST TRY THE S’MORES COOKIES. I’m making that my mission this weekend. I agree about the sun thing… it’s so nice in the evening and then the morning I cannot get myself out of bed. Your niece is so lucky to have such an amazing aunt. Have a fabulous day Mariah!

HAPPY FRIDAY! HAPPY SPRING (tomorrow)!!
Favorites from the week: Skied on Wednesday and found an awesome vegan “shepherds pie” recipe for St. Patrick’s Day. Unfavorite is the return of temps in the low teens after some spring teaser weather :o(
Laundry is never ending, but I love when you can get more in a load without all the extra winter layers and bulk.
I was a huge bookworm as a kid, so tough to have a favorite, but any of the “Little House” books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and anything by Judy Blume would make the list. And Dr. Seuss!
Sooooooo looking forward to a spa day (safety precautions in place) this weekend with two of my girlfriends (birthday celebration for one of them)!! Can’t wait for the hot stone massage!!
P.S. I just got E cloths for windows and stainless steel – thanks for the review on the window ones!
Have an AWESOME WEEKEND :o)

It’s so hard to believe that Easter is only a few weeks away! Do you have any fun, inexpensive gift ideas that isn’t candy for kids that are the same age as yours? I could really use some ideas. Thank you!

Hey Kimberly! I totally forgot Easter was so soon! I’ll put together a list of ideas for my post on Monday or Tuesday?! I hope it helps! Have a beautiful weekend!

Wishing your mom the BEST birthday! She seems like such a loving, kind, gentle, and incredibly strong person. I hope she has all of her favourite treats and people with her today and every day.

Also, Skye’s antics make me laugh! I love her fire and I feel like she is going to be a powerhouse down the road, changing people’s lives in positive ways. Everyone has special gifts and Skye’s seems to be keeping everyone on their toes and living life with fierce love. What a beautiful gift! I hope she never loses what makes her so unique.

Happy Friday to you and your family, Janae! So glad you enjoyed the podcast.

Reply

SHE SURE IS! Thank you so much Jill! I totally agree with you about Skye, she makes all of our lives so fun and entertaining. Thanks again for sharing that with me, I sent it to a bunch of my friends too.

Wishing your mama a wonderful birthday. I’m sure your family will keep the celebrations going all weekend long. The joggers you shared are the best! I was going to try a more expensive brand, but when I saw your recommendation on an earlier post, I ordered a black pair in the slim fit. Loved them so much I ordered another pair in red. I wear them all the time. Thanks for always sharing your favorites with us!

Reply

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! They are just the best and now you are convincing me that I need a red pair too! Have the best weekend and thanks for your comment, Nicole!

Happy birthday HRG mom!
My 2 boys still live with us so my wife basically is doing laundry every day.
I am currently reading My Experiences in the World War by John J. Pershing. I have not read a history book in a while.
Looking forward to a good workout and watching NCAA Basketball this weekend. I do cheat and run 3 or 4 miles with a knee brace once or twice a week. I will need a knee replacement no matter what in the future so YOLO I guess.

Reply

HEY JOHN! Thank you so much! Laundry every day… just a party:). You’ll have to let me know what you think of it when you are all finished up! YOLO is a great way to look at it and I am so glad you get those 6-8 miles each week. Enjoy the basketball watching and your run.

Reply

Ha, it’s a detailed account of WWI. I feel like I’m in the commercials of how not to turn into your parents. And yes, I have read books on submarines! Have you seen those commercials?

I have a great Podcast recommendation for Andrew to listen to while he’s working out. It’s called The Sports Square. It’s basically Steve Souza Jr. talking baseball with his buddies or interviewing somebody in baseball. Steve Souza Jr. is a local product of the Northwest and I know his dad. He sounds exactly like his dad too.

Those joggers on Skye……ADORABLE!
Herzlich Geburtstag to your mom! She is a gem! (isn’t that her hobby, too?!) I love HRG mom blog posts. You have an awesome family!

Children’s books are the best. Love them!

Happy Birthday HRG Mom!!! You seem like such a wonderful mother and grandmother ? I hope your next year is full of health, love and happiness!!!

Morning workouts are the best, I am always my best self when I get up before my family and get some miles in.

Brooke does seem to be growing into such a lovely girl. Why is time going by so quickly?!?

We are packing up and heading to Utah tomorrow, and I am so excited to get out in nature and visit some new to us national parks.

Enjoy your Friday friend.

Reply

HEY BETH! Thank you for your sweet comment. It really is going by way too fast. I am SO happy you are coming to Utah, please let me know if you have any questions and I want to hear what you guys did afterwards! Thank you and you too!

Favorite: 2 family movie nights this week (we watched Yes Day too) and we got new bikes for me and my daughter. I only have a road bike and clipping in doesn’t work when on a bike ride with 3 kids;-)

Unfavorite: snow/ice! We need spring here ASAP

At least one load of laundry per day here too!

Happy, happy Friday Janae!

Reply

More snow and ice?! I feel you… I am really needing spring/summer weather! SO happy about the new bikes, I hope your weather let’s you get out to ride often soon. Thanks Becky, you too!

Super happy birthday HRG Mom!! Hope you get lots of smiles today :)
Those joggers on Skye–couldn’t be cuter!
Favorite thing this week was fresh mango/pineapple salsa from my grocery store produce section for crockpot chicken. So yummy and so simple.
Unfavorite thing is our “new” dog’s obsession with our cat. We’re taking care of our future son-in-law’s dachshund while he is at Marine boot camp, and the dog legit sat on a pillow in my lap while I worked yesterday and whined at the cat on her window seat for 2-1/2 solid hours. Very funny, but nerve-grating at the same time. The barking would have been worse, LOL.
Have a great weekend!

Reply

THANK YOU COREY! Ummm that salsa sounds so good and I need to copy you and throw it in the crockpot with some chicken. Yum. Oh I bet that drove you crazy after a while.. you are already an amazing mother-in-law to help with his dog (PS WHEN DO THEY GET MARRIED?)! Thanks Corey, you too!

Reply

Happy Birthday to your Mom, Janae! Love reading your blog! I bought those e-cloths and they are amazing! I actually washed all the windows in our house interior and exterior using them!!! Game changer, lol!

THAT. MAKES. ME. SO. HAPPY. I don’t know how I went so long without them. Have the best weekend Jonna and thank you!

Happy happy birthday to my favorite internet mom that I feel like I know but is still a stranger, haha! Thanks for being so sweet and raising such an amazing family! I love those glass ecloths too. The stainless steel ones are great, so get those too!

Happy Birthday HRG Mom! Wishing you a fun weekend of celebrating YOU!

Oh my GOODNESS!! Skye just cracks me up! She’s such a funny, cute and CLEVER girl! I’m sure she keeps the whole family entertained lol

My unfavorite thing about this week has been the WIND! Running has been so hard this week.

How is the sizing on those sandals? It’s hard to tell from the reviews. Do you get your normal size? I get a smaller size in Birks.

Reply

Hey Elizabeth! Thank you so much and you are right, she keeps us all laughing all the time! I really hope the wind dies down for this next week. Running in the wind seriously makes me angry! I have them in my normal size! I wear size 9 in everything including these! have the best weekend!

Reply

Happy birthday Janae’s Mom!!! I hope you have the best day celebrating with your family and loved ones:)

We loved Yes Day too!!!

Reply

NADYA!! I hope you are all doing well and thank you so much:). Have a fabulous weekend and let me know if you ever do Yes Day at your house:)

Reply

Happy Birthday HRG’s mom!! I used to do at least 2 loads of laundry per day (6 kids, ha!) but now that my kids are getting older they are doing their own which helps so much. Now I only have to do laundry for me, my husband and my 9 year old. It’s the best! Speaking of laundry there’s a book called Laundry Love-Finding Joy in a common chore (or something like that) coming out at the end of the month that I’ve heard good things about and I’m so excited to read! Looking forward to my long run tomorrow, we should have sun and spring like weather. Oh and I also ordered a pair of the sandals in white. Can’t wait to try them out-I’ve been looking for ones just like that! Have a great weekend Janae!

Reply

Two loads per day, you are amazing! At some point you’ll have to share with me when you have your kids start to do their own laundry… I’ve always wondered what people do with that. And I need to read that book, thank you for sharing and let me know what you think of it. Go rock that long run, I’m cheering for you and enjoy those white sandals, SO so cute. Thanks Renee! you. too!

Reply

Oh the wonderful things you will be is my favorite children’s book!

My one year old daughter loves books by Leslie patricelli.! They are pretty cute!

Kids are so funny! My favorite thing is when I changed my 10 month olds diaper, he crawled with the dirty diaper all the way over to the garbage and tried to throw it away ??

Reply

My friend sent us the book “The Rabbit Listened”. My second daughter was stillborn in August 2019 at 39 weeks gestation. My oldest is 3.5 years old. So we use books to talk about feelings and grief. This one is amazing. It’s actually good for all kids to learn about feelings and how to help others. I’ve read it several times to my oldest and she gets it and loves the book.

Reply

Megan. I want to give you a hug right now. I am so so sorry about what you have all been through. You are an amazing mom and doing so much for your daughter to help her with her feelings. I am going to order this book for my kids, thank you for sharing and I hope you are doing well.
