Different Ways to Get THERE + Tangents!!

We all woke up feeling like Skye in the below picture.  Hiding behind a blanket all day sounded rather appealing.

Luckily, I had Emilee to meet for a run which is what got me up and out the door to meet her for 8 miles @ 8:39 pace.  She is shooting for 90 miles this week so I am hoping to get at least half of those miles in with her:)

When we first started running together we would always laugh when we would meet up in the morning because we would usually be dressed for different seasons.  I think she is the one that is usually dressed appropriately for the weather because I just tend to overheat every run.

Beck LOVES his bath time and he kicks around so much in there that he splashes his own face.

I’ve decided to just let the kids wear exactly what they want to wear.  Skye was positive that wearing two different types of shoes is the current fad so I’m just going to go with it (although I did make her grab a left and a right foot shoe instead of two rights ha).

IMG 0940

We went and picked up Beretta from the Dog Hotel that she stayed at while we were away.  She was so happy to see Skye and me!

I was reminded of this yesterday… When I first met Andrew and told my sister that he had a chocolate lab she thought it was an ACTUAL lab where he made chocolate.  She was very sleep deprived from having two small babies at the time and she was so disappointed to learn that she wasn’t going to have free chocolate for life once we got married;)

For dinner I saw these ham and cheese sliders and knew they would be a favorite… and they were.  They taste better than they look and they took about 7 minutes to prep.  PS don’t mind the top of the poppyseed bottle that somehow landed in the sandwiches.

Time for a speed workout!

And of course our Tuesday needs some tangents!

*I loved reading all of the ways everyone recovers in the comments of my post yesterday and I wanted to share Sloan’s.  I LOVE the drain your legs trick too and it has definitely helped me in the past and I’ll have to use the compression sleeves next time my shins are achey.

Skye wanted to show you how it is done, she needed a lot of recovery from all of her trampoline jumping lately.

*Cadburry Egg Cookies.  These need to be a part of your life this week. The toasted coconut inside is amazing.

IMG 1035

After almost five years of marriage it is a total habit for me to automatically put dough in the fridge for Andrew to eat.

*I love reading the Fast Women’s Newsletter each Monday morning and really enjoyed reading about the British Olympic marathon trials.  Steph Davis won the race with a 2:27:16!  It was so cool to read that she runs 60-65 miles per week.  I love seeing that there are so many ways to get to our goals and she has clearly found what works for her training even if it is so different from her competitors!

*I’m trying really hard to get better at carrying both of them at once but they are both growing SO fast so I’m not sure how much longer I will be able to.

Those of you with little ones (now or previously)… which side did you naturally tend to hold them on?

-The right side feels way easier for me vs the left!

Do you ever use any compression gear?  Have you in the past?

Please tell me what in your opinion is the perfect sandwich combination!

GIVE ME A TANGENT!

I don’t have my own little ones, but I hold my nieces and friend’s kids on my right side. I’ll try to switch and even it out, but my right side is stronger. You are so strong holding both Beck and Skye!!!

I agree with wearing compression sleeves at night! Plus I also don’t want extra clothes while running, that’s one more layer lol.

Reply

HEY YOU! I’m with you on that… the less layers the absolute better. I need to try and switch it around too! Thanks friend and I hope you have a beautiful day:)

Ah, so funny about the side you carry the kiddos on being your right, you’re left handed correct? I’m right handed and think carrying on my left is easier and I’m convinced it is because I am able to use my right hand!!
My tangent is asking if you saw the moon the last few nights?!? It was full Sunday night and so big and bright! Just beautiful!!

Reply

Well, that makes sense! That’s why I carry them on my right side. I did and it was incredible! Have a fabulous day friend:)

Reply

I carried both of mine on the left because I am right-handed.
Best sandwich combo: peanut butter and marshmallow fluff.

Reply

That makes sense… that’s why I must on my right! I need to try that combo asap, I’m sure my kids would love it too. Happy Tuesday Rachel!

Just had to say that I LOVE how you put aside the raw cookie dough for Andrew!!!! That’s true love!!!! I’m a huge raw cookie dough fan myself!!! :)
Thanks for sharing the recipe—I printed it and will def. be making them!!!!

Happy Easter, Janae!!!

It always makes him so so happy.. cookie dough is delicious. Let me know what you think and you too, Jen!

I tend to carry my little ones on my left hip. I am right handed so I want that hand free to do other things with.

Reply

That must be why I do on my right! Thanks for sharing Ashley and I hope you have a beautiful day!

I always carried the boys on my left hip, because I’m right handed. My left arm was definitely stronger than my right back then. Ha ha
I completely forgot about the Fast Women newsletter… I need to start reading it. I too, love reading about how different training can be for different people, and how they fit it all into their regular lives.
Oooo, the picture of Beck in his bath! So cute!
Have a good day Janae ?

HEY WENDY! That’s how I feel, my right arm is so much stronger than my left. Yes, get back to reading it, it’s so fun to see what they are all up to! Thanks friend, you too!

About the clothes thing- my son couldn’t have cared less what he wore but my daughter was VERY opinionated on the matter! i learned quickly to just let her wear what she wanted- even if it was a swimsuit, ever if it was a Halloween costume… we got a lot of strange looks but it really doesn’t matter in the end. I’m glad you’ve come to the same conclusion- you need to save your sanity!

Reply

Hahah isn’t it funny how they just come here with the strongest opinions/personalities! Life is so much easier when I just let her express herself how she wants to ha. You are so right. Have the best day with your son and daughter!

Reply

I think with your running, Andrew’s mountain biking, and what will be Beck’s competitive swimming, the Baron family can have its own triathalon team!!!

Those cookies look amazing. REALLY amazing.

Have a great day out there, Janae! <3

Reply

That is SO so true! We’ve got quite the team haha. I hope you make the cookies, they were so good. Thanks friend and YOU TOO!

Reply

Hi Janae! Those cookies look fantastic!! I’m off to do a mile time trial now, feeling nervous and excited!

AHHH how did it go?! I am sure you rocked it!

I have scoliosis, and my left hip is slightly bigger, so I tend to carry my baby on my left hip.

Reply

Hey Brittany! Is your scoliosis something that is painful each day? I hope you and your baby are having a beautiful day!

Reply

Thankfully my scoliosis doesn’t impact me too much on a day to day basis, and I didn’t have any issues with it through pregnancy and child birth!

Reply

I am sooooo glad! Have a great day friend!

You get much credit for holding those two! I believe that is your cross-training…
I had to share this when I saw you mention the “chocolate lab”. Here goes….
My husband and then 4-year old were in Hershey, PA during December. We went to the Hershey museum and they were announcing over the loud speaker that those that signed up for the “chocolate lab” should start lining up. My daughter turned to me and asked “Mama, what is a chocolate lab?” So I explained it was an activity where you made your own chocolate bar. She looked at me confused and asked “So what is Petey?”, and I answered “He’s a black lab….oh!” The lady next to use just started cracking up. It didn’t occur to me that she was thinking of our dog and not actual chocolate! Yes, Petey was our black lab!

Reply

HAHAHA THANK YOU for telling me this story about your little girl:). Hey, chocolate is the first thing I am thinking about especially when you were at the Hershey museum! Hope you are having a fabulous day and I am going to tell Andrew your story!

I may or may not have fan girled when I saw my comment in the post today! Haha! Skye did a GREAT job draining her legs!!!

Reply

I LOVE hearing from you and any tips that you have! You are a fabulous coach! Have a great day, Sloan!

Reply

Ohhhh my gosh, my daughter went through the mis-match shoe phase right at the same age as Skye! This brings back so many memories of her at that little cute age!!

I can only carry my kids on my right side. Feels out-of-this-world-weird to carry them on my left.

Your cookies look amazing!! You should send them out to everyone who comments on this post lol

Reply

It sure is cute to see them express their little selves at such a young age. Isn’t that funny how weird it feels to carry on a different side? That’s a great idea… send your address. Have a fabulous day, Torrie!

Reply

I always carry them on the right too. Probably because I’m left handed so by carrying them on the right it frees up my left hand.

I used to use pro compression socks but didn’t really notice much difference with recovery. I don’t sometimes use them still at work as it’s a long day to be on your feet in the Emergency Department and I notice that helps for sure.

At the moment my favourite sandwich is Swiss cheese, cucumber and Mayo. But I change all the time. Just my current fav. I also love chicken and avocado.

So funny because I just made some oat cookies with Cadbury Easter eggs. But your recipe looks better so I’m going to give that a go too!!

Have a great day Janae.

Reply

That must be why we all carry them on the opposite side of what we write with! So interesting. I can’t imagine how long those shifts must feel some days… you are amazing! I need to try your swiss, cucumber, mayo combo! And oat cookies with the eggs… yes please! Thanks friend, YOU TOO!

As a left hander I always held/carried my kids on my right side. I wasn’t able to BF but I can’t imagine trying to do that on the left side. I do so much with my right hand so I am free to write with my left hand. For instance a computer mouse – I use it in my right hand. I can’t imagine being right handed and using a right mouse like most people do. Talking on the phone – always my right hand. Though just this morning my 12 year old was chastising me for only texting with my left hand.

While I am not a big sandwich person, I don’t have a favorite. Sometimes PB&J on Wonder (because the bread at my parents was never white and never soft), sometimes a wrap or anything in between. But I don’t like the same sandwich over and over, so it’s hard because I buy the fixings for one kind and then don’t want to use it all up (and no one else in my house eats sandwiches). While I don’t miss much from working in the office (I had started working from home full time a few months before covid hit) – I do miss their deli bar – I would get chicken salad on a whole wheat wrap with roasted peppers, red onions, banana pepper, lettuce and spicy ranch dresser. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! And they had these fantastic seasoned homemade potato chips. I’ve tried making the sandwich at home and it just isn’t the same!

Reply

It makes so much sense for us to all carry them on the opposite side of what hand we use the most! Okay, I am just like you with my mouse and my phone when talking too… that is so interesting! Oh I would absolutely miss that deli bar too… that sounds amazing! Will you always be working from home now?! I hope you get a sandwich/wrap that hits the spot for you again soon! Have a great day, Jessey!

I will continue to work from home. I had always intended to start in September 2020 when the kids entered high school and middle school, but my company was downsizing their office in Fall 2019 so I chose to start then, never knowing the rest of my family would “come home” a few months later. The kids are hybrid now, hoping to go full time in a few weeks though I am doubtful since cases are rising in MA. My husband was laid off a couple of months ago. I am hoping when he finds a job it will be out of the house but I am not so sure. Finding a way to deal with all the togetherness is definitely challenging!

Reply

Wow, life is sure crazy! I’m so glad that it all worked out to be home together last year! I am really sorry about your husband. This must all be so stressful. Please keep me updated on how you are all doing, stay healthy friend!

Reply

I’m right handed so carrying them on the left seemed easier so I could still use my right hand to do things. It’s weird how one side can just feel more natural.

I’ve had those sliders before and they are amazing! For a cold meat sandwich I always go with oven roasted turkey, dill pickles, lettuce, tomato slice, mustard and sharp cheddar cheese.

My daughter is always wearing mismatched socks but I don’t think she’s ever tried mismatched shoes. That would feel so weird on my feet.

Reply

Ahahaha SO funny Skye!! Allie started kindergarten this year and I totally just let her wear whatever she wants… doesn’t matter if its not matching or has a hole or tutu over pants. I’ll draw the line at not weather appropriate or dirty – but otherwise clothes are NOT worth arguing about!! And she always wears her shoes on the wrong feet… whatever works ;)

Reply

I always felt more secure holding my babies on the right. Now years later I still favor my right side and think it’s stronger! ?

Good job on the ?‍♀️ !!!

And wow I’d love to visit a ? lab!

Reply

I saw that cookie recipe and saved it to make this weekend! Question – did you chop up the cadbury eggs or leave them whole? I was debating subbing with m&ms because the idea of chopping up a bunch of chocolate eggs did not sound fun.

Reply

Hey you! I didn’t chop mine up! Some were already broken up in the bag but I was too lazy ha. They turned out so good! Have the best day!
