Back to Being Tired Again + Friday Favorites!!

The birthday celebrating has begun and I’m pretty excited about that.  Andrew was able to get this weekend off from work which will be his first full weekend off in a long time… we cannot wait.

The day started out with a run in my favorite canyon.

We finished at Kneaders to get some hot chocolate but their machine was broken so we had frozen hot chocolate instead.  It basically tasted like a milkshake ha and it produced some purple lips (see top picture) from being frozen.

IMG 8019

After school we took the kids to an empty parking lot to get in as much rollerblading/skateboarding/biking as possible.

IMG 8028

IMG 8032

There were no tears shed the entire time from anybody so we are calling that a major success.

IMG 8029

We went the simplicity route last night for dinner and made our favorite breakfast foods.

IMG 8036

An update on Skye’s eye… poor girl!  She says it doesn’t hurt but it makes me want to cry every time I look at it.

I noticed that my milk was dropping now that Beck sleeps such long stretches at night.  I started pumping in the middle of the night and that is seeming to help.  Anybody else have this happen to them?  I’d love to hear about what you did!  Setting an alarm for 2 a.m. is sure fun;)

Oh and don’t be too jealous of my hair fluffing out of my eye mask, I can’t sleep without my eye mask.  This one is so soft and cushioned.  I have two of them because I worry if I lose one I won’t be able to sleep ha.  I am very serious about sleeping.

Just a few of my favorite things today!

*I don’t know how to talk about this book in a way that will communicate how much I love it.  I am only half way through but I want to buy a copy of this for every single person I know that has struggled/struggles with body image issues.  I have read/watched a lot of things on this topic and this is by far the best resource I have found.  I am so glad I am reading it now so that I can use the things I’m learning in here as I teach my kids these important lessons.

IMG 7774

*Forgive me because I don’t remember who told me this in the comments the other day but I tried it and it helped me so much.  They told me to set a timer for when I have a task that I just do not want to do and it works.  Going into the task knowing I am going to stop when the timer goes off makes it so much easier to start for me.  THANK YOU for the help.

*I’m not sure if I have talked about this on the blog yet but if you haven’t watched Ryan Hall’s documentary, it is free here if you have Amazon Prime.  I loved watching his running journey and now I need them to do one on his wife:). Here is the trailer for it:

*I’ve had these pjs for a few months now but forgot to tell you about them… and if your questioning another pajama purchase to me, just remember I am in pajamas for 40% of my life (I get in pjs rather early each night ha).  These are from Target and they feel just like my Nordstrom ones but they are half the price.  They are so soft, they wash SO well and make life so comfortable.  I’ve hooked my girls on an obsession with pajamas already too so this is going to get expensive over the years ha.   PS these are my favorite Amazon PJs… so soft.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Are you a fan of pajama sets?  Have a favorite set?

What was your last injury? (Skye’s eye made me think of this question)

Do you crave more salty things or more sweet things?  Would you rather have something salty or sweet right this second?

When I was pumping in the middle of the night with my first, I used a sleep app called Sleep Cycle. I would set a range of time (usually 30 minutes) for the app to wake me and it would track how deeply I was sleeping and try to wake me at my most awake during that range. So if I set the alarm for 2am, it would wake me anywhere between 1:45 and 2:15. It was a game changer!

I also would find a show I really liked and would only let myself watch it when I pumped in the middle of the night.

Reply

Just downloaded it… THANK YOU AMANADA! This is going to be so helpful for these pumping sessions. And I love that idea about only watching a certain show during that time so it kind of feels like a treat too. Thanks for the help and I hope you have a great weekend.

I need to read that book! Even the title is thought-provoking! I got a pajama set on sale from J Crew last year–LOVE them. They are my favorite pajamas, and so cute.

Normally I am a sweet-craving person, but lately I’ve REALLY been wanting salt–who am I?? Salted caramel for the win. :-) I am just excited for some time off this weekend–the week has been a lot! And of course Valentine’s Day. :-)

Reply

YES and let me know what you think of the book if you do read it. I haven’t tried J Crew pjs, I’ll try those next! Thanks Kristin and I hope you get all of your salty favorites this weekend with some major relaxation after a crazy week!

Would you ever do a post about beck’s eating and sleeping routine? I have an almost 3 month old and would love to see what someone else’s day looks like.

Reply

Yes yes yes! I’ll try to get that up in the next week or two… the only problem is our life is so inconsistent with the older kids:). Our night time/first thing in the morning is our only consistent time of the day because with the rest of the day things are juggled around according to the big kid’s activities. I’m grateful Beck is just happy to join in on whatever is going on but I’ll definitely write about what happens on average with him:). I hope you are getting some sleep and recovering well! Thanks Hailey, have a great weekend.

Reply

I’d love to hear more about nights with Beck, too! I’m due later this Spring with our 2nd (little girl!) and hoping we have some solid nights by the 3 month point like you’ve achieved with Beck. Cant wait to hear some of your tips!
Thanks!! <3

I tore my peroneal tendon back in May, and after many months of trying pt the podiatrists said we just need to go in and repair it. So I had my surgery yesterday and I’ll be off my feet for 3 weeks, hopefully running again by 10-12 weeks post-op! I am wanting to reward myself this weekend with some new Brooks, I would like some extra support and I am a pronator, any suggestions?. I might even go so far as splurging on new trail and road shoes ;).

Reply

That sounds not fun at all. I am so glad you were able to get the surgery and I hope that this recovery goes really well. I think that is a really really great idea to treat yourself to some Brooks this weekend. Have you tried the shoe finder guide? https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/ShoeFinder ? I do not pronate so I don’t really have the best personal advice for that… can anyone else offer Allison suggestions? I do LOVE the Ravenna and they offer some really great support!

I’m a big fan of pyjamas but they never seem to wear out so I have no excuse to buy more!

I have far too sweet a tooth. My husband and I treat ourselves to cakes from the local patisserie on a Friday (shh, don’t tell my 4yo what he’s missing out on while he’s at nursery).

Apologies for totally unsolicited breastfeeding advice… but you might not need to pump at night. Your body gets better at producing milk only when it’s needed and not just making it all the time – so you don’t get that full feeling but can still be making enough milk. It’s so hard to know with breastfeeding whether your baby is getting enough but if he’s gaining weight and peeing/pooing as normal then he probably is! (It seems a shame to be missing out on lovely sleep)

Reply

I second this breastfeeding tip. I struggled with low supply and you can even do weighed feeding with a lactation consultant to make sure you’re producing enough during a feeding. It was such a relief to know I was producing enough after fixing low supply.

Reply

I am totally going to go in and do this so I can know! The questioning myself thing is getting crazy this week ha. It’s all I can think about. Thanks Sara for sharing!

Reply

I NEED ALL OF THE ADVICE so no apologizing. Thank you for that! You are so right about the full feeling being gone (which is so strange now) but he was just acting still hungry after feedings?! He is definitely I don’t know what to do ha but I’m open to learning everything possible about this.
And your Friday cake tradition… that sounds perfect. ENJOY!

Also getting up at 2am to pump to keep my supply up for my 4 month old! No great tips really, just another nursing mom to commiserate with haha. Such a tease having them sleep through the night then needing to set an alarm to wake to without them!!

Reply

Sending you a virtual hug Heather. We can do this!! PS read some of these other comments because I’m going to try the Power Pump idea and pumping after each feeding… we need our SLEEP! I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

We recently discovered Little Sleepies pajamas. They are 100% bamboo and so comfy! My daughter would wear them all day if she could. Skye’s poor eye! I was a clumsy kid and was usually sporting a black eye or fat lip a good portion of my youth. Somehow my face and my knees always collided.

Reply

Okay, now I am going to have to get some of those! The toast and fried egg ones are the cutest ever. Good to know Skye isn’t alone with this ha! I hope you have the best day Corrinne!

Reply

Poor little Skye!! I always get so sad when kids get hurt I think I am usually more upset than they are.

Knox was in short sleeves?!? That is awesome for February =)

I used to have to pump in the middle of the night but that was to increase my supply. We put a mini fridge in the bedroom so I didn’t have to go down stairs to store my milk and pump parts in the middle of the night, that helped a lot.

Have the BEST birthday ever, you deserve it!!!

Reply

HEY BETH! Hahah right?! I can’t believe how mild our winter has been! I am the same way… she got over the injury much faster than I did. Mini fridge in your room= brilliant! Thank you friend and I hope you have a great weekend!

Reply

Love those target pjs! Such good quality at a great price.

Poor Skye :( My last injury was when I fell while running over the summer- I scraped my leg really badly on the sidewalk, it took a long time to heal!

Reply

I think you were the one that first told me about them! Those sidewalks are vicious! I am so sorry that happened this summer! Have a great weekend Mariah!

HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY I HOPE THERE IS A LOT OF CHOCOLATE AND NAPPING INVOLVED.

Reply

You are just the best and both of those things will be happening (not only on my birthday but also my birthday eve)! Hope you are doing well friend!

Reply

When I was breastfeeding my daughter last year, I power pumped in the morning and evening and it helped me increase my supply big time! You pump for 20 minutes, off for 10, pump for 10, off for 10, pump for 10. It takes an hour and it’s supposed to replicate cluster feeding. This might help you maintain your supply. :)

Reply

10000% going to start trying this tonight. THANK YOU KELLY!

Reply

I am not a lactation expert but I do work as a NICU nurse. I would suggest pumping for about 5 minutes during the day after breastfeeding each time and skipping the night time pumping. That should increase your milk supply without having to wake up in the night. That sounds like no fun! Also you may just need to increase your calories due to the harder workouts. Hope that is helpful! Good luck!

Reply

THANK YOU KS for taking the time to give me these tips… I’ll definitely be doing them today! I really appreciate it and time to carry the pump around with me all day now:). Have a beautiful weekend and thanks again.

Happy Friday! Happy Weekend! Happy Birthday Week!!
I am getting my second COVID vaccine this weekend (eligible as first responder), so hoping for and looking forward to a minimal response to it. Many people really feel awful for a shirt while after getting it.
I love pajama sets, but stopped buying them, because I was too lazy to do anything other than just fall into bed with any old t-shirt on LOL.
Last sort of injury was a mild case of PF that, thankfully, I worked through fairly easily. I feel for Skye and am glad it’s not painful for her. At around her age, I fell down concrete steps at our house and ended up with 2 black eyes. I don’t remember it, but there is photographic evidence.
Salty v. sweet totally depends on mood, but right this minute – sweet!
Have an awesome weekend with much Valentine’s Day and Birthday celebrations!!

Reply

Hey Janine! Good luck with your second dose. Andrew was pretty sick with both but then I have met people that were fine for both. You’ll have to leet me know how your body responds. I am SO glad your PF was able to get worked out… that is painful. Two black eyes?! That is nuts. I hope you get both something salty and sweet soon. Thank you so much friend!

Do you know Lexie and Lindsay Kite, the authors of that book?? I work with Lexie at the U, and she and her sister are AMAZING people !!! I hope you get to meet them in person someday if you haven’t. They’re so smart and positive. I am excited to read their book, as they’ve been doing this research for years!

Reply

I do not know that but I want to know them in real life. They seem incredible. That is so awesome that you work with Lexie… next time you see her tell her your friend (me ha) feels like her book is changing lives!!!!

Loved that Ryan Hall documentary. Now I am wondering who told me to watch it cause I thought it was you.
Suggestion on the milk: Always pump after feed so milk demand is higher to your body than he takes. After he starts sleeping through the night regularly, that morning feed is going to be big (and long when I know you will want to be out the door running :)) Run right after that really good feed and pump.
Happy weekend.

Reply

Hahah it could have been me:). I’m doing that today… thank you SO much for the help. You are really the best. I hope you have a great weekend and happy V-day to the three of you!

I LOVE pajamas although it’s gotten to a point that my husband says if I want more I have to get rid of a set….yeah right.

My last injury was this past summer. I fell on mile 17 of an 18 miler and I pretty much smashed my face and watch on the pavement. I bruised a tendon in my wrist and I had a bit of a black eye. I recovered but my watch didn’t….RIP Coros Pace…..that I only had for 2 months at that point.

Reply

Okay, Erin… that sounds so so painful. I cannot imagine and I’m so sad about your watch too. Hahah keep the pajama sets coming…

Happy weekend!

Reply

Just curious how did you know your milk supply was dropping? My little on (10 weeks today) has started sleeping longer stretches at night.

Reply

Hey Megan! YAY for getting more sleep! I have no concrete idea (I haven’t had him to do the weigh test with a lactation consultant or anything) but during his day feedings he was acting still hungry after I fed him (and was empty)… does that make sense?

Reply

I echo everyone with do not get up to pump – even though my breastfeeding days are over, you should not need to do that unless you are trying to freeze a whole bunch.

Per the Brooks site this morning they are stopping the Ravenna and switching people to the Launch, which I do not understand as they are very different. I got the Brooks Divide trail shoe for hiking in Utah last fall and they were great, I have been wearing them to walk in the snow in Rhode Island.

Looking forward to your birthday week posts – maybe you should get a followers to run a mile for each year and post a pic of a post run treat!

Good to know about pumping, thank you Allison! AND YOU BROKE MY HEART… I didn’t know that about the Ravenna! Wish I could have hiked with you when you were here! Ummm that is a great idea! Who is in??

Enjoy your weekend!

We’re splurging on Valentine’s day and having Filet Mignon. Les has mastered grilling them and we don’t even have to get dressed. I’ll cook sweet potatoes in my air fryer and we’ve got something chocolatey for dessert.

I don’t have a favorite pj set, but I wear them all the time.

Skye’s eye looks like mine did the first week of December. I hope hers doesn’t progress as badly as mine did – https://mcmomentsandmemories.blogspot.com/2020/12/friday-fotos-progression-of-black-eye.html

I don’t crave sweets as much as I use to. Chocolate was a once a month must have pre-menopause! I still want something sweet after pizza or Mexican food.

Agree with the others that getting up in the night might not be necessary! I exclusively pump for my 6 month old twins, and I pump at night around 8:30-9:00 and then not again until I wake up around 5. For the morning pump, I usually get 20 oz, so my body is still producing just as much breastmilk overnight even though I’m not pumping mid-way through. I used to do the middle of the night session, but it got way too hard when I went back to work, and it turns out it wasn’t needed. Sorry if this was TMI, but wouldn’t want anyone with a baby to lose any more sleep than she needs to!

Our body is an instrument, not an ornament!!

When I saw Tired in the headline today I thought to share something about iron supplementation. I took 25mg iron with 500mg vit. C daily for a while now. Vit. C helps the body process iron, max. bang for the buck. As I looked at my pill supply last month, I realized I have a lot and considering my diet, I’m probably getting enough from food now. So, I started taking two irons/ day -> 50mg to work through the supply and just get down to a food-based life. Well, my energy got better in a week. (I take iron bisglycinate.) BUT I initially attributed the improved energy to our improved food prep skills, thank you covid19! (This is all based on intuition, so the testers reading this will say, get a test!) Now after two weeks it occurs to me it could be the additional iron! So, here I am. More energized and eating better, halleluiah, and needing a blood test. I’m also glad I took 25mg for so long because we have to be careful about how much we take at a time.

Reply

Note: I also thought my energy was better before taking the second pill because I’m getting more sleep on a regular basis. So, this might be overruled.

P.S. My lack of energy/ tiredness dates way back to college! I had regular physicals and everything was fine according to western medicine. Addressing this, in my YEARS of experience, is taking advantage of information available to you (library and internet) as we tune into our bodies and take it seriously. Value yourself highly, and don’t lose YEARS.

Reply

P.P.S. Low energy, not lack of energy. Sometimes we can think if we just adjust our attitude, thoughts and actions we will become better. Maybe, maybe not, FYI.

We’re such pajama fans that when LAKE opened a store in Charleston, my daughter immediately got a job there! We’re hoping she goes full time with the company when she graduates from college!!

Also, thank you for introducing me to CRUMBL! Cookies! They opened a store near us and I have gone every week for my fix!!!

Happy birthday to you! Have the best weekend!!!

Our 10 week old has slept 8 hours for the past 3 nights! I feel so alive! But have the same fear of my supply dropping. I don’t have any good advice but wanted to share.
Can I ask if you to any specific pelvic floor training for running? I got cleared at 6 weeks to resume all activities but running doesn’t feel great. No pain, just abdominal soreness. Thanks!

As an eating disorder therapist and a mom, I LOVE this book. Wish it was a required reading in highschools.

AGREED!!! I’ve been wanting to go back to teaching high school again in a few years and I will definitely include it in my curriculum:). Have a great day Jenn and thank you for helping so many others!

SWEETS all the way, forever! though i’m about to give them up for Lent, so indulging like crazy these past few days, getting it all in!
i love PJs and sets are so cute but i usually end up just wearing the bottoms bc i have way too many old t-shirts so those often win out rather than a matching top.
this book looks like a really great read, and just what i need. adding it to the cart now. TY.
i’m so glad you had a fabulous birthday weekend! and happy belated birthday girl!! (catching up on posts :) )

Totally checking out that book – thank you! I just bought a Smash and Tess romper. A little on the expensive side, but we’ve had more than two weeks of negative temperatures, so I need to stay warm. It’s been fabulous to wear around the house and sleep as well.
