Stories from my phone and WHO AM I?

I have never been much of an afternoon runner (let alone any time past 9 a.m. runner) but because of our new schedules with Andrew’s school, it looks like it might work out nicely a time or two each week.

5.39 miles @ 8:31 pace.

I always thought it was impossible for me to run in the afternoon (although, I did do doubles in 2019 for my training a few times) but it’s kind of really nice and awesome.   My favorite part of it is the fact that the afternoons are the warmest part of the day which means I’m getting some much needed Vitamin D.   It also means that I can convince my sister to go with me (she is not into the dark and cold mornings thing) and we ended at Brooke’s school so that we could walk home with her.

Another really nice part of afternoon running is a calm morning snuggled up on the couch with whoever is awake.  Brooke couldn’t take her eyes off of her book for the picture.

The highlight food-wise of the day was this meal from Beehive Meals (they gave me a code in case you want to try it—> hungryrunnergirl10 will get you $10 off).  They make dinner life extremely easy and delicious.

We added some pasta and roasted broccoli and loved it.

And now it’s time for some pictures on my phone that I haven’t blogged yet…

*Why use apples to get the peanut butter into your mouth when you can just use a spoon?

IMG 6175

*My sister had us over for a salad bar the other day and it was fantastic.

IMG 6087

*Seeing Beck with a beanie on brings me so much joy.

IMG 6124

*I’ve been reading and watching Youtube videos about cake decorating because I really want to get good at it.  The girls are wanting to join me in this new hobby so the other night they decorated their very own cake.

IMG 6136

They were so proud (Skye did the sprinkles:).

*Question… Has anybody seen these in stores or do I need to spend $12 on one package from Amazon to give to Brooke ha.  I have looked in 4 different stores for them and no luck.  Also, has anybody tried these and are they good?

* I’ll be watching this tonight! The Courage to Run with Chip Gaines and Gabe Grunewald is a documentary on Discovery+ and they offer a one week free trial if you want to watch it.

I got those oreos at WinCo this week!

AWESOME! I’ll go today to get them! Thanks Jenn and I hope you have the best day!

Sometimes I like the afternoon runs, but I definitely prefer my lunchtime runs. Those aren’t going to be happening with any consistency this year it looks like. So EARLY EARLYYYYYYYY or late afternoon for me. :)
But I agree–that vitamin D is nice!!!
I take collagen pills that have vitamin C, Iron, Olive Leaf (a friend suggested this to me because it’s high in antioxidants!) and sometimes a weird kelp pill thing that’s supposed to help your skin. But I forget about it a lot because you have to refrigerate it. haha.
Oh my gosh Beck in a beanie! Why are baby pics the best thing ever??
And that cake is pretty impressive!!! And also looks delicious.
Also, thanks for the shoe rec yesterday!!! I’m buying the Ravennas today and I can’t wait!

You’ll have to let me know what you think of the Ravennas! I’ll have to look into the Olive Leaf and kelp, those sounds awesome! I agree, baby pictures are my favorite. Thanks so much Mollie and enjoy your Wednesday!

Looove afternoon runs (even in the summer) all the sunlight please.

Golden Double Stuf is our go to Oreos.

Taking a prenatal + DHA & B12 while breastfeeding.

Reply

Seriously that sunlight is SOOOO good for us. I hope you have some golden double stuffed oreos asap! That sounds so good right now. I hope you have a beautiful day Jenny!

I like evening runs (as long as I’m with other people because running in the dark alone is not my fav). It’s nice to have a good workout at night and get the stress from the day out. I was reading Becky Wade’s book and she mentioned how in Ireland, the running clubs regularly run at night, even if it’s dark and cold. Thought that was so interesting!

Reply

That is so interesting that the running clubs meet at night! Our group does that once or twice a week too (although I can never make it to those times)! I hope your day is a great one Mariah!

Reply

Target where I live has them!

Reply

AWESOME! Thanks Jen and I hope your Wednesday is off to a great start!

The peanut butter Oreos are my favorite. They remind me of Reeses peanut butter cups. It’s kind of dangerous though to have them in my house, I find it hard to stop eating them lol!

Reply

I need to try the pb Oreos asap! Our family would love those and I hope you have some soon. Have a great day, Kimberly!

I can’t buy Oreos or I will eat the whole pack in one sitting. I like the regular and the mint. I just bought some Vitamin D because the winter blues hit me hard this year. I’m trying to convince my husband to move to Florida. I am not a morning person, and I get up at 5:00 for work anyways, so the bulk of my runs are in the afternoon. I really like it. It keeps me from laying on the couch from the time I get home from school until bedtime.

Reply

HOW HAVE I NOT TRIED THE MINT?! I love everything involving mint so I need to try them. Claire, I am so sorry you are experiencing the winter blues… it is so real. I hope you are feeling a bit better and I’m here for you! Keep enjoying those post-work runs, wish I could join you!

Haven’t seen the Oreo’s!

I use Vitamin D drops, I’m curious about the collagen pills and weird kelp thing Mollie mentioned! Lol!

Last documentary was “Courage to Run”, so good, have plenty of Kleenex around!

Reply

I am going to look into those things that Mollie uses also. I can’t wait to watch it and thanks for the tip. Have a beautiful day, Martha!

I LOVE Oreos, but I stick with the classics – regular and golden. I take a few supplements – calcium, magnesium, D3, and K for borderline osteopenia (thyroid-related), a probiotic, and a multivitamin. The seasons here pretty much dictate what time of day I run. Summer in the South is unbearable, so pre-dawn runs are key (and still sweaty!). I love winter the most because it gives me the most flexibility. My times are greatly improving with the chilly air!

Reply

I cannot even imagine running in the summer where you are at with all of the humidity! I’m so happy you are loving your winter running and all of that hard summer training is paying off for you with the colder weather! I hope you get some Oreos asap and thanks for sharing what supplements you use. Have a great day, Tracy!

I’m not a huge chocolate person, so while I think Oreos are good, but I am not super into them…I do LOVE the golden ones and lemon ones, though!
I currently use Care/Of as a vitamin subscription service… I made it work in my budget because even though you pay slightly more, it’s all nicely packaged up in one bundle and it makes it easier for me to not skip or forget! I currently take a probiotic, cranberry pill (I struggle with UTIs and Kidney Stones – this seems to help!), fish oil, multivitamin, zinc, and vitamin D. I majorly struggled with SAD a couple of years ago – started taking vitamin D and it really helped!
I enjoy afternoon runs on the weekends or days off work – other than that, my schedule doesn’t really allow for them. I tend to run in the AMs in the summer to avoid the heat, and in the evenings in the winter, because I struggle to drag myself out of bed early when it’s so cold and dark out! I do sometimes get a run in over lunch and I like that! It works now because I’m working from home and I don’t look nice anyway, so if I get a little sweaty, it doesn’t matter!

THE OREOS ARE AMAZING. literally all my favorite desserts in one. What is even better….making them chocolate covered Oreos. Thank me later. Found them at my local Walmart!

10 years ago I was a morning runner through and through. Now, any time of day (including evenings) can be a great time to run. Anything is possible for you too.

Let me know if you try those Brookies.

Reply

I saw those Oreos in my Target!! I hope you can snag them!!

Reply

I saw those cookies at Target

Thank you thank you I have been trying to find the doc, I cannot wait to watch. Afternoon runs are so hard mentally, even lunchtime runs, good for you for getting it done. Beck gets cuter every day. And now I will be checking out cake decorating too!

Good job on the cake girls! It looks amazing ?. I can’t wait to see what other cakes you all do.
I always feel like afternoon runs feel so much harder for me…. Weird. So it’s very rare for me not to run early.
I’m taking a multi vitamin, and have started adding a collegen peptide powder in my coffee. We get lots of vitamin D here year round, so I’ve never taken that as a supplement. I do take an imune booster with extra vitamin C and elderberry this time of year. That has really been key to not getting the flu for the past several years.
Have a good Wednesday ?

My vitamin D levels are always low unless I supplement- and I live in Florida and run outside without sunscreen (early in the morning) so I’m not sure what’s going on with that! I always encourage people to get their vitamin D checked because you never know.
Have you guys watched Kids Baking Championship on Food Network yet? Your kids would LOVE it!!!

Although I do love the classic Oreo, I’m also a big fan of the Golden Oreo and Peanut Butter Oreo. Yum! Speaking of peanut butter, Skye is a girl after my own heart…skip the apple and always use a spoon! ;)

I just started taking Vitamin D a couple months ago when my doc recommended it for bone health. But, I know it’s good for the winter months, too, to try to make up for the lack of sunshine.

I don’t love afternoon runs. I dread them all day (totally consumes my thoughts for the day!) and I have a hard time sleeping that night after I’ve done a hard afternoon/early evening run. So, although it’s tough to get up when it’s so cold and dark, it’s worth it to me to just have it done for the day.

Happy Hump Day!! Saying that somehow makes the week seem a little more normal when all of the days just seem to run together in a blur :o)
I really only like the original, classic Oreos and even as a grown woman, still take them apart to eat them!
I live in the Northeast where there is a good amount of vitamin D deficiency, so my doc recommended that several years ago (my levels were super low). Also calcium, a multi, and extra C. I have been doing collagen peptides in my coffee for a while now as well.
I don’t remember which was the last, but lots of documentaries lately on plant based eating. We are looking at making a transition (not sure if animal protein will be fully excluded yet) for the well documented health benefits. It should be interesting…
When I was running regularly, I ran at all times, mostly dictated by what I was training for and what life was throwing at me. My faves were morning runs (especially for long runs) or early evening runs.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!!

I saw those Oreos at Walmart yesterday. I didn’t buy them, but regretted it after and may have to return for them soon!
I don’t love afternoon runs. It gets harder for me to motivate, and I feel like it takes more planning in terms of food. I have to make sure my lunch is a little lighter on veggies than usual or my stomach is unhappy with me.
Thanks for the info on the Discovery+ trial. I can’t wait to watch that!

We have the oreos in Walmart and Target here – they are good :)

I like Oreos a lot, but Les LOVES them! He could eat an entire row as long as he had a glass of milk. Our favorite is Caramel Coconut – it’s like a German chocolate cake smashed into an package of Oreos!

I take a multi vitamin, but also Vitamin D. That’s one marker that is usually down when I have my blood work. I’m so careful with sunscreen that I don’t get enough from the sun, even living in California and Hawaii!

I really struggle with afternoon workouts. If I don’t exercise before breakfast the odds of it happening are very slim.

Long time reader, first time comment… not ashamed to admit I just ordered the Oreo Brookie-o’s from Amazon :-) Worth it!!

Cake decorating, I’m happy for you! I used to work at a bakery and have made a few wedding cakes, and have to say it’s all about the tools. I like to stack the layers on a cardboard cake round (2 or 3 inches larger than your pans) and freeze for at least 10 minutes to firm everything up (longer if using a softer filling than just frosting) and then piping around the whole cake starting from the bottom up. This video kinda shows that process, though I like a normal star tip rather than the flat one, and then she does something very different: https://www.lifeloveandsugar.com/how-to-frost-a-smooth-cake-with-buttercream/

Then, a small offset spatula to frost the top and send some frosting over the edges to make sure it squares up, and very gently smooth the sides with a bench scraper. A turntable, cardboard round, spatula, bench scraper, and piping bag with tips is really all you need but all essential. They’re cheaper at restaurant supply stores or Cash and Carry if you have them there. I bet you’d like cake by Courtney and neurotic mom on Instagram. I think you’d be surprised at how quickly you can make really gorgeous cakes with a little practice and the right tools. I love talking about cake, haha. It’s a special joy to gift someone a birthday cake that really impresses them, I’m stoked to see more cakes from you and the girls :)

Our Target had them as well. They were not in the cookie aisle, but rather in the end cap of the check out lanes. :)

I love trying the limited edition oreos, but that’s pretty much the only time I buy them. I want to try the Brookie, but haven’t checked many stores for them. I heard Walmart has them.

Supplements: I take double the Vitamin D in winter time since it’s very grey here. I also started taking biotin a few months ago. I was so stressed with school I noticed my hair just falling out. I think it helped. Also helps that I have been on school break for a month now. 1 more semester to go and starts next week.

I love your positivity so much, it always reminds me that if you look for the good you will always find it.

I am not much of an afternoon runner but sometimes it feels so good to break up the day and get some time alone. Sometimes 4am wake up call is just not going to work and sneaking in an afternoon workout is the only option.

I’d love to try Beehive Meals because the crock pot is totally my thing but right now it isn’t available in my area. Hopefully some day!

I took a cake decorating class at our local Michaels store and I think it was one of the best skills I have ever learned! My kids loved the cakes I could make. It’s so fun to use all of the different tips and make pretty decorations.

The oreo thing is gotten a bit out of hand! I just like the holiday ones with the colored cream………specifically the Halloween ones!

I have never been good about taking vitamins or supplements, but I am starting for 2021. I grabbed a multi vitamin from OLLY brand, as well as their gummies for skin. Now I can seriously say that without me changing how often I use lotion, the skin vitamins have stopped my dry itchy winter skin in just a week! I wash my hands so much at work, with a zookeeper job it’s mandatory, and in the winter my knuckles, hands and even arms get so dried out…….the OLLY stuff works wonders!

I do need to get on an iron supplement, as my levels were a bit low, so I am researching that. Any iron recommendations?
Oh, and I am just starting to try the collagen peptides. I’m curious about them so decided to try it out.

and I am 100% afternoon or early evening runner. I love that it’s so sunny and warm then!

Have a great day!
