Friday Favorites & Would You?

It was almost TOO warm for a long sleeve shirt yesterday on my run!?  It definitely felt like a spring time run…

Even though it looked like a winter run!  Do you see the ice climber below?  I cannot even imagine attempting what they are doing below!

8 miles @ 7:57 pace with two friends and the Ghost 13s are officially my favorite shoe now.  They have more cushioning than the previous Ghost which I really enjoy while still offering the smooth springy ride that I love.

A highlight of the day was going on a drive with Andrew.  We are going to make some cosmetic changes to the outside of our house this spring so we are loving driving around and looking at different houses to get ideas.

IMG 6331

We also finally found the Brookie-O Oreos (thanks for helping me know where to go… our Target had them) and they are delicious.  I’m not really an Oreo person (unless they are in a shake) but these are good.

It was warm enough for a park day.

Another Beehive Meals for dinner—> Carne Asada tacos!

I have a few of my favorite things to share today!

*I’m not sure why blankets are so important to every member of our family (besides Andrew) but that’s just how we are.  I’ve had this blanket for a little while now and it is the softest blanket I’ve ever had (plus it is on sale).  I can’t watch a movie or show without it.

IMG 6279

*One last Andrew wardrobe pick that he gave me for Christmas—> the softest t-shirt ever and it washes so well… just like all of their products.

IMG 6339

*My brother recommended that I read this book (it’s about a bus ride from hell to heaven) and I’m really enjoying it so far… I’ll write more about my thoughts on it when I finish!

IMG 4821

*I LOVE the new cheetah print from Koala Clip.  These come with me on every run and I don’t know how I ran with a phone before I started using them.  My code HRG10 will get you 10% off if you want one for yourself… They make it so you don’t even feel your phone with you!

IMG 6205

There is even a little pouch to hold your key too.

IMG 6319

*Those of you with art loving kids (and I’ve been using these too ha)… these outline markers are so cool.  They automatically create an outline around everything you write/draw and they are so different than any markers that we have.

What are you reading right now?

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Do you take your phone with you while you run?  How do you carry it?

What is the riskiest adventure you have ever done?  Would you ice climb?

I’m reading A Promised Land for a book club. I think especially with celebrities or politicians, we can be quick to think we know everything about them because they are so famous, so I’m excited to learned more about Obama and how his career affected his family and personal life.

Looking forward to catching up with a friend that I haven’t seen in a long time and a weekend long run with my running buddies!

Book club… I would love to be in a book club, so fun. I bet that book is awesome, let me know what you think when you are all done. Have the best time with your friend! Thanks Mariah.

Currently reading 2 books lol. Barack Obama’s Promised Land and also a book about a man who chased storms for a living.

I would love to try ice climbing as I am a bit of an adventure junkie. But I would have to get my basic climbing skills up to par first lol. I don’t know if it is over all high risk but some of the places my friends and I have trail run /adventured have been pretty technical and dodgy and have some serious exposure. I have also ziplined across the Monteverde Cloud forest in Costa Rica. Loved it. I guess its only high risk if the zip line breaks lol? Hee.

Definitely sleeping in, running and playing with Puppy.. I got out this morning for a 7 am run and felt so good to have time to myself.

Happy Friday Janae!

I am reading D-Day Girls about women spies during WWII and how they help the resistance in Europe. I love history. I would never ice climb, I like adventure but no thank you on that. White water rafting was probably the most adventurous thing I’ve done. Always looking forward to the weekend, but this one is a little sad, our son returns to college, assuming his covid test comes back negative. Sure it will but must have proof! Always hate to see him go, but it’s pseudo-normal so I am happy for him.

I would love to read that book, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks Nancy! White water rafting… that is very adventurous! I bet that is incredibly hard. I am so sorry Nancy. I hope you guys have had the best time together. Good luck!

I have a 3 day weekend for the first time at my company (they gave us 4 more holidays this year!) so I am very excited!!!

I have a koala clip but I haven’t been able to get it on by myself yet (I need to go back and watch the videos). I have a flip belt which I love!

In my 20s and early 30s I was Ms Adventute – rock climbing, sky diving (just once), winter camping, mountaineering on Mt Rainier. I did try ice climbing once as well but I didn’t like it. It was hard not to compare it to rock climbing but you shouldn’t. But now that I have kids I am a wuss and just stick to hiking and regular camping

Have a wonderful day and a great weekend!

3 day weekend wahoooo… ENJOY! Maybe I have long arms?! I hope the videos help! You were quite adventurous…. you tried ice climbing ahhhh. Hahah I’m a wuss now too:) Thanks Jessey and enjoy those three days!

I am reading lots of baby books as I am 12 weeks pregnant with my first!!! I am also reading a thriller called “Pretty Little Wife” by Darby Kane. It’s really good so far!
I am also happy about mild January temps here in Toronto. Great for runs and walks since we are in a complete lockdown and all gyms are closed.
I am looking forward to telling my parents/family/close friends this weekend about the baby!!! It has been the hardest secret of my life :)
I don’t take my phone when I run, but I never feel worried because I live/run in a big city and there are always lots of people around.
Riskiest adventure…hmmm…. probably parasailing but I wish I was able to do more :)
I love your blog BTW…have a great weekend!

Enjoy sharing your secret with your people:) I LOVE a good thrilled so I will have to check that one out. Complete lockdown, that is so so hard. I hope your area starts seeing progress! Have a beautiful weekend.

Happy Friday.
Right now I am reading the book Group.
I have rock climbed a few times.
Looking forward cheering on the Packers in a playoff game while eating pizza!

Pizza and a Packers game–> ENJOY! I have to look up that book! Thanks Erica and have a great weekend.

I hope you share your house changes! It’s so fun to see before and after a!! I have noticed a trend of black framed windows on a White House. I want to change ours to that, but we probably won’t unless we win the lottery!! You should make brookie Oreo shakes at home! I’m going to Target tonight to try to find those!!!

Go Pack, Go! I’m right there with ya, Erica!

Hi, how dou do to be able to run when u have kids? I only have one child, 1 year old and I can almost never go for a run in the morning (I can leave him w his father but then there is no breakfast and he is a picky eater). Thanks!

Reply

Hey Monica! Andrew works 3 shifts a week as a nurse so that gives us 4 days where he is home with us which makes it easy to run on those days! On the days he works I either go before he leaves (which is extremely early ha) or I run on a treadmill or today my mom is going to watch my kids for a short run. It really is tricky trying to figure out the best schedule and you are doing an amazing job. Have a great weekend with your one year old and husband:)

Lewis is one of my favorite authors! I grew up reading the Narnia books. Right now I’m reading a mystery series set in Singapore, but I’m waiting for the latest in the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series—the library system here is huge and it’s usually easy to get newer books without having to wait too long. I highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a light and fun read.

I used to wear a running belt but lately I’ve switched to shorts and tights with pockets and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. (I always take my phone in case of emergency.)

Reply

I totally agree, he is one of my favorites too! I would LOVE to read that series, thanks for sharing and that is awesome about your library! Pockets on running shorts/pants are seriously the best! Have a great weekend.

I just got done reading “Breath” by James Nestor.

I highly recommend EVERYBODY read “Breath” and the book “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker. They are life changing books that offer insight into breathing and sleep and they affect our short and long term health. The sleep book will also explains how and why sleep cycles change as children age and how important it is to brain activity and performance.

No ice climbing for me, thanks…

Reply

I just looked up your book and that looks REALLY interesting. I’ll have to read both of those… for some reason our world focuses so much on food and exercise for our health but sleeping and breathing is such an important part too. THANK YOU JOHN and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Reply

Let me know what you think after you read those books, they are really eye opening!

Both James Nestor and Matthew Walker have been on a bunch of podcasts as well. I heard Matthew Walker (again) just the other day on the Feel Better Live More podcast.

Just curious how you are getting your runs in with Beck? I’m 6 weeks postpartum with my third baby and I’m finding it really hard to get a workout in. She doesn’t seem to like to nap anywhere but on me. Just curious what you are doing?

Reply

Hey Megan! Congrats on your little one! Beck is similar and loves to just nap on somebody! Andrew works 3 days a week as a nurse (12 hour shifts wahoo) so he is home 4 days a week which makes it nice to be able to run when he isn’t doing school on those days. Beck will nap in his carseat so I will sometimes run on the treadmill while he is next to me in the carseat (and I can see him breathing) or I will go early in the morning before Andrew’s work when Beck is still asleep for the night. Today my mom is going to hold him while I go on a short run too! PLEASE REMEMBER that running is technically my ‘job’ which makes it a bit easier to prioritize that I am getting it in… you are doing amazing and running will ALWAYS be there for you when it works best for you and your family!

Thanks Janae! I appreciate the feedback! Enjoy your weekend ❤️

Have a great weekend!

Hi! I’m not sure if you already know this, but for some reason your blog isn’t coming up on Bloglovin’ (I think just for the past two days). Just wanted to give you a heads up :)

Reply

Oh bummer! I didn’t know that! Thanks for letting me know and I’ll get that fixed!! I hope you have an awesome weekend!

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue is a great book.

Awesome! Thanks Allison, I’ll check it out! I hope your Friday has been a great one so far!

Happy Friday!!! I usually have multiple books going; right now The Promised Land and In My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I also love good fiction!
I will get to visit my dad this weekend – he lives several hours away and I haven’t seen him since Thanksgiving.
I have never run with my phone. Maybe not always the wisest move, but there it is.
Riskiest thing that comes to mind was a massive zip line & aerial park in Mexico (a little different than the ones here in the states). It was so fun though! Have an AWESOME weekend :o)

Reply

I LOVE having a few books going at the same time! I am so glad that you get to see your dad this weekend, have the best time together. Ummmm that zip line does sound scary ha but worth it! Thanks Janine!

I’m finally reading the Lord of the Rings! Never read them and I am really into them now! I know Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were really good friends, so that’s fun you’re reading C.S. Lewis!

Is the Lululemon shirt at all an athletic material? I have a t shirt from them that I almost love that’s not a workout shirt, but definitely wicks sweat more than a normal shirt. The only thing I don’t like is that the V-neck is too deep for my taste. Yours looks like a good style!

Reply

Hey Kristin! Oh enjoy the Lord of the Rings! YES, it is all athletic material which I love so so much! I hope you love it too. Have a great day!

It was 71 with 25 mph winds when I got up to run at 5:30! We missed winter completely here in So Cal.

LA County has allowed churches to hold indoor services again, following social distancing protocols. Sunday is a weekend highlight again.

I always wear a cycling jersey when I run. They have 3 back pockets – one for my phone, one for my sunglasses and one for my mini garage door opener.

We’re adventurous, but try to minimize risks. I want to live longer to enjoy more adventures! We mountain biked Mt. Etna, Sicily’s active volcano. That would probably seem risky to some, but we had excellent guides. And the canoli at the end was exceptional!

Reply

WHAT?!? That is crazy weather in January! I am really happy for you guys that you are able to go to church on Sunday! That jersey sounds perfect and you guys really are so adventurous, I love it. Happy Friday Kathy!

I read the Great Divorce years ago when I had just started college, and it was so unlike from anything I had read before! Really opened up my mind. I’ve been meaning to read A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis since it was highly recommended to me. Currently I’m reading The Power of Moments for work, and it’s a really interesting read, but definitely work-y.

My daughter convinced to sign up for Goodreads! At first I was reluctant but I have found it’s a great way to track not only what I’ve read, am currently reading but most importantly what I want to read! Tiny pieces of paper with book names get lost too easily! haha

I’m a pretty big book hopper and discovered I’m currently reading 17 books ! Sheesh! I need to wrap some of those up! Ones I’m enjoying is The Athlete’s Gut, Jew(ish), and Grant. I have read the CS Lewis book you are reading and it is one of my very favorites. I don’t often re-read books but this one is worthy of that title! Enjoy!

The ending of The Great Divorce surprised me so much!
