Friday Favorites, Someday & Success.

My sister’s birthday celebrating was a success so let’s talk about how the day went…

I started things off with 7 miles on my own (my sister is not into winter running… she loves her treadmill right now:).  My body was definitely feeling sore after my speed workout on Wednesday!  Someday I’ll build back up to doing trails/hills the day after a speed workout like I used to do when I was training hard in 2019 but for now I will take the day after a speed workout easy.   PS the speed day followed by trails (<— my coach calls these challenge runs) really helped me to get faster so it will be exciting to get back to that again in the future.

My sister’s request for the day was good food and some relaxation and we accomplished both.  We went to her current favorite restaurant for lunch—> Zupas!  Salad and steak sandwich for me.

And then we hung out at my house while the kids played and ate homemade bread and jam from my sweet friend Kelsey while we talked.

Then my sister went to hang out with her crew and we stayed home.

I have a feeling that Brooke might want to be a teacher in the future because she wants to teach Skye ‘preschool’ often.  We had dinner, got in the hot tub and we are ready for a day of online learning today!

I haven’t shared any Friday favorites in a few weeks so let’s get to it now!

*I’ve had a few people ask me about this pink top (it comes in a few colors).  Andrew bought it for me for Christmas (if you ever like something I’m wearing I guarantee it is something Andrew picked out and definitely not something I picked out ha) and I’m a big fan of it.  It is waffle-knit and the softest thing that you will ever put on your body.  It is also longer which I love!

*I saw that Megan got the Upside down Challenge and bought one for our house because it looked like so much fun. Kids and adults love it and it is so different than any other game that we have had.

*When I blogged about how much Skye loves to build the other day Lindsey recommended Magna-Tiles for Skye.  I bought them and they are a HUGE hit at our house with Brooke, Skye and Knox.  Skye plays with them the most and she gets lost in building for as long as she can.

*If you are in need of some cheep ($26) fleece leggings for running, go HERE to get some.  I love these so much and this is my second winter using them.  They are perfect for 17 degree weather and they are so comfortable and don’t move during the run.

*PS for those asking about my Balaclava top that I wear on really cold mornings, this is what it looks like.  It is perfect for the freezing mornings.

*Another Christmas gift from Andrew and I absolutely love it.  It’s on sale too… HERE!  I have it in a few different colors too and love them.  They are so soft and I love the high-neckline

The tie in the back is my favorite!  You can also leave it untied and have a more flowy tank top.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Any teachers reading… When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

How often do you trail run?  If you don’t get to as much as you would like, how many times a week would be your dream to trail run?

Who has a sister (or sisters)?  How far apart in age are you?

I always know when 8am (EST) hits because that means I can check you blog — I’m a routine follower too!
North Carolina is suppose to get some snow today, so we have an almost 5 year old who is waking up and has been glued to the window and/or weather app waiting for it. Hoping weekend plans include snow!

That makes me so happy! I love a good routine:) I hope that you guys get so much snow today and that your 5 year old is in heaven playing in it! ENJOY and make sure to have some hot chocolate too. Thanks Sage!

Happy birthday to your sister! ? I almost typed her name here (that’s how long I’ve been reading your blog!) I hope her birthday is fabulous! ?

Those fleece leggings are exactly what I was looking for .. HOW DID YOU KNOW? ?

Have a fantastic Friday! ?

I have that same balacava top…how forward thinking to have a shirt with a built in mask right? ??
Your sisters birthday day sounds perfect. We have those magna tiles for my son and we bring them to restaurants to entertain him. It was great until we started building huge complicates structures around his cups and food and then they would collapse ?
Have a great weekend!

Right?! I love a good 2 for 1 combo because it means I have one less thing to find in the morning before I go for a run. I’ll start bringing the tiles to restaurants! Hahah I can see how that would be a problem. Thank you so much, you too and I hope you have a great weekend of running!

Looking forward to cooking in my new instant pot this weekend, reading (I got so many books for Christmas, my family and friends know me so well!) and a long slow run.

I have one sister, she is 15 months younger than me. Everyone guesses she is the older one though!

You’ll have to share with me your favorite recipes that you find for the instant pot! Enjoy the reading time and a long slow run. You two are so close in age… fun! Thanks Mariah!

Sounds like a fun day! I always thought I would want to be a teacher, but it was when I first started tutoring in high school where I really decided.

That is awesome Kat! I had a similar experience too when I was in high school. I hope you have a really great day.

Love that tank top! I think I have to get one :) would you say it’s true to size? I don’t have a sister :( but I so wish I did! However, I do have 5 girls (plus my youngest is a boy) so they are all set in the sister department ? I always tell them how super lucky they are to have each other. Looking forward to a wintry long run tomorrow! Have a great weekend!

Reply

Hey Renee! Yes, you need it and it is true to size. I hope you love it. FIVE GIRLS… party! And I bet they all just love on their little brother. Enjoy your snowy winter long run tomorrow!

I mentioned the other day that I’m the youngest of 6… 5 girls and 1 boy, so I have 4 sisters. I have a twin (I’m 6 minutes younger than her, so I truly am the youngest..ha), then our brother is 5 years older, then my 3 other sisters are older than that. I wasn’t real close with my older sisters until after high school. I think it was because need we’re at such different points in our lives. But it was fun growing up in a full house!
This weekend should be pretty low key. I need to finish reading a book, and then Sunday is always my meal planning day for the new week.
I can’t believe it’s Friday all ready. First week of the year, and 1st week of distance learning (again) done! And what a weird week! Happy to be moving on ?
Oh my neighbor friend is in Orem for the weekend, visiting her daughters. That’s right by you, right?
Have a great Friday!

FOUR SISTERS AND YOU ARE A TWIN… I love learning these things! I love the low key weekends, enjoy. I’m happy to move on from this week too! Yes, Orem is very close… you should have come with your friend:). Happy Friday!

I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl in elementary school. I always played school. My mom was a teaxher snd I used to like writing pretend lesson plans in old lesson plan books of her. Then I became a real teacher and didn’t like writing lesson plans. Haha.
I have two sisters. One is older by 5 years and one is older by 7 years.

Reply

Mary, I loved learning this about you! Hahah the lesson plans are not always fun. My sister is 7 years older than me too:). I hope you have a beautiful day friend.

Good morning, Janae! Weird as it may sound, I am looking forward to deep cleaning my house this weekend, post COVID isolation (made it all the way through with no symptoms)!!
I love trail running and miss it. Part of my 2021 running goal of getting back to a consistent plan is to also return to trails. Two to three times a week is my dream :o)
I have a sister who is 5 1/2 years younger than I am (with 2 boys in between). I’m the oldest and she is the youngest, but we are super close even though we live on opposite sides of the country. We both wish we lived closer to one another, but it’s just not in the cards now. Someday!!

I am SO glad that you were symptom free during your COVID isolation and that you made it through. I enjoy deep cleaning every now and then too. I’m with you on 2-3 times a week on the trails, that sounds fabulous. Loved hearing about you and your sis and I hope that down the road you are able to live close to each other! Have a great weekend, Janine!

Cute clothes! I especially like the long sleeve waffle knit! I’m conflicted because I was gifted a little money for Christmas which is usually something that I use to buy clothes, but given that I am 14 weeks preggo, my body is about to change a LOT, so buying non-maternity clothes would be a terrible idea right now!

I have two little sisters, one is 3 years younger, and one is 13 years younger. It is a blast to have a much younger sibling! Santa and the Easter Bunny were still coming to my house up until I left for college! The youngest sis is 14 years old now, and while I THINK I’m still considered cool, I don’t know if that will last much longer!

Hey Courtney! CONGRATS on your pregnancy… I am thrilled for you! You’ll have to keep me updated with how you are doing. 13 years younger… oh I bet that was so much fun and I guarantee you will be cool to her forever. I hope you are feeling great and that you have an awesome weekend.

Hi Janae! Your recommendations for toys are always spot on and a hit with my friends kids! I don’t trail run often even though there are trails fairly close to me because I’m super scared of falling! My friend fell while trail running last year and she got a concussion and broke her teeth and had to get stitches on her face. Do you run slower on the trails? Or do you just look for trails without tree roots or rocks? Happy Friday!!

Reply

Hey Amy! I’m glad I’ve been able to help you out with some toy ideas! That is terrible about your friend! I hope she is doing okay now. I do run slower on the trails but with practice it definitely has helped me to lift up my feet more and watch out for things but I still trip every now and then! Thanks Amy, you too!

All of your clothes are SO cute! I knew I wanted to be a teacher in middle school after having the best class ever and loving my teachers. I didn’t know I would end up teaching college level. More and more I am missing the kids and the connection so I am considering teaching in public schools again. HBD to your sweet sister.

Looks like a great time with your sister.
Random question: How many weeks do you do for marathon training plans? Now or in the past.

I want to get in to trail running so bad, but I’m just so nervous to go alone sometimes…I should start with Provo Canyon though!

My sister is 1 year and 10 months older than me, but now that we’re older it feels like we’re the same age. She is my best friend and I couldn’t imagine life without her! On the other hand though my husband has SIX sisters, and sometimes its overwhelming because I’m not used to so many opinions, haha!

Hi there – I haven’t been able to check your blog much since your new baby & what a perfect little sweetie! Thanks for the tights tip – I need a new pair, and FLEECE lined?! Amazing.
The trails around here aren’t very runnable in the winter since they’re covered in deep snow (MN) but last fall I was running the trails daily – I have some about a mile/mile & a half away from my house. Lately I stick to the sidewalks and sidestreets around my neighborhood.
Happy birthday to your sister!! Jam and bread is always a good way to celebrate. :)

My mom was a teacher and I was always in a awe of all the things she came up with – she was so creative. I definitely didn’t get that gene!

Before my latest injury, Les and I were trail running about once a week. I loved having him along and he would much rather run the trail than the street. I managed 2 “runs” over 6 miles (with quite a few walk breaks) this week, so I’m hoping to get back to the trails soon.

I have one sister who is 5 years and 4 days older than me (+ 2 boys between us!) We always celebrated our birthdays together as kids… pretty sure she felt a little ripped off when I came along. She got a new title this week – “mother-in-law!” One of her daughters got married on Monday (they did a simple courthouse ceremony, reception to be scheduled as soon as it’s safe.) I’m so happy for her, she got an awesome new son!

I have that same top from Athleta. Loved it so much I purchased another one in teal and rose. SOOO CUTE!

I have three sisters. The oldest is > 8 years older than me. So, I have oldest tendencies also for watching over the younger ones. Our father always encouraged us to be strong and independent. If we get married, great, but always be able to stand on our own also. He also enjoyed watching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in our 1 television home, and he owned the show choice. So, we learned to box each other when frustrations came along. Somehow I don’t see you and your sister boxing. Am I wrong?

Hey Janae! That upside challenge game looks so fun. I’ve bought a lot of games from your recommendations and we have loved them all. I ordered the waffle top too:) can Andrew be my personal shopper too?! Haha he has good taste.
This weekend we are going sledding/tubing so that should be fun, followed by some hot chocolate.
Have a great weekend

Also, teaching did not occur to me as one cannot support themselves on the salary, and live the life I saw for myself (in airplanes, you put the mask on yourself first, then anyone else, in case of a drop in cabin pressure). It can be a rewarding job, and there is more to life! Considering the changes in parenting over the years, it’s another reason I see I made the right choice.

Oh, in 2020, no school shootings! Let’s keep this going!! Do I need to mention parenting in general again? This is not specific to any one home. The parenting community is a whole thing. It’s complicated. Hoping the improvements made in so many homes in 2020 sticks and grows. Like a planted seed. The more harmonious people are at home (everyone in the home), the more harmonious a world we can have. Since parenting is a whole community, harmony can have exponential results. Your blog is an example of contributing to the community, and I sense you have a social life also. We are better together. It’s the ripple effect.

Oh, you did it again HRG, so inspiring today!!

Shirt with built in balaclava?! Pure genius! Totally random ask (and poor timing w Andrew being so busy!) but I’d love to hear a post from him (at a less crazy time) about mountain biking! I know NOTHING about the sport, but love hearing about how other folks get out and enjoy nature. And that sounds like a unique one.
