Friday Favorites + Our Day

5 miles @ 9:26 average while listening to this episode of Jared Ward on the CITIUS MAG Podcast.  It was a great episode and I am cheering for him big time in London.  They will be doing 19 LAPS for the London Marathon course this year and each lap is 2.15 km… I would feel quite dizzy after that!

The kids then got a mile of run/walking in on our street.

Skye has been REALLY into pretending she is a dog so this is how she greeted me on the front porch;)  Brooke did the same thing at her age… It must be in their genes.

The kids then went to Grandma School and they REALLY liked yesterday’s session… They bobbed for donuts!

IMG 0604

My mom always has something special for Skye too.  I’m sure she is expecting her own day of Grandma School when she is a Kindergartner.

I go through a shockingly high amount of cottage cheese and grapes at this point in my life.

We ended the day by going to my nephew’s (socially distanced) cross-country meet.  I feel like it has been years since I last saw a race happen and it was the best to watch him FLY!

I love seeing more and more members of my family hooked on running!

I have a few favorite things to share today:

*Leigh lives in New Zealand and sent me the most amazing treats ever (that creamy milk bar was just what I needed yesterday).  It made my month… I LOVE trying new treats from around the world and it turns out New Zealand has some of the absolute best.

*Just in case you need some good feels today with everything going on in our world!

*If you need a fun gift for a girl around 8, Brooke has absolutely loved this Butterfly Fleece Quilt.  The set comes with 48 squares which are all ready to be tied so she gets to create the design of the blanket and do all of the tying by herself (which is perfect for a non-crafty mom;)

*I bought a pregnancy gift for myself.  I bought it in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep one night.  Foot massages just sound so good 24/7 lately and so I wanted to buy something that I could use while I am working (without spending $200).  It massages and heats (which is going to be extra amazing in the winter)!   It is $50 and with over 6k 4.5 star reviews I decided to get it.  It feels like heaven and it feels especially good after a run.  My right heal has been a little agitated lately and I love how it rolls it out so nicely after a run.  Obviously you can get ones that are way more high-tech for more money but this is exactly what I need (it feels so good) and it’s a perfect self-care investment in my opinion.  You can find it HERE.  Expect every time I open my computer for this thing to be on…

*Cynthia left this tip for pumpkin carving and this is what we will be doing from here on out!

*My current favorite show on Netflix… I should probably spend less time watching it and more time actually organizing my house but the before and afters are just the best on here.

*A news story in Utah that made me cry happy tears.

Foot massage or back massage… which would you prefer right this second?

Would you say you are a crafty person or not so much or somewhere in the middle?

Best treat/meal/candy that you have had from another country than the one you live in?

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

OMG your nephew’s post race, HUGE, proud, “I just did that!” smile in that last photo gave me all the feels. So awesome! Way to go!

Right?!? And that smile did not leave his face the entire night! Running is magical. Have a beautiful Friday Jennie.

Jared Ward!!! So glad you mentioned that podcast because it’s not one I normally listen to. i’ll save that episode for my run on Sunday. So that goes in the category of something I’m looking forward to this weekend! Have a great day Janae!

Oh I hope you love it. It was so interesting to hear how he overcame the setback of the Olympic trials and got back into things when there was nothing to train for (until London)! Have a great run and I wish I could join you.

Seeing you get those NZ treats makes me SO HAPPY for you! It makes me want to go the shop now and buy some creamy milk….Whittaker’s is the BEST!

Your nephew looks like so many of the kids I coach right now – giant smile because he is happy to get out and race right now! I know I am so grateful that we have gotten to have a cross country season so far and am crossing my fingers that we make it through the post season because I have a few seniors that have worked really hard! I’m disappointed that there aren’t any races for me to run this fall, but I am grateful to get to watch my kids run :)

Ali, I am so so glad your team gets to race right now! They all need it so badly. I’m really hoping that you get a race or two soon and keep enjoying seeing their post-race endorphins?. They are so lucky to have you as a coach. Enjoy your weekend.

I sent a thank you to Hope’s teacher at the end of the home learning school year last June, and I think one sentence said something like thank you for making me the crafty mom for the first time in my life.
That blanket looks like something I will need to purchase.
Happy weekend to you! Wish I lived close enough to come put my feet on that massager. Ha.

Reply

Hahaha I love that! I’ll get the foot massager turned on and waiting for you?. Have the best weekend with Chris and Hope.

Back massage!
Seeing Brooke tie that blanket together makes me want to ask – how did you teach your kids to tie shoes?? I’m having a hard time teaching without my son and I getting frustrated.

Reply

I hope you get an awesome back massage soon! Andrew is actually the one that taught our kids and we’ve realized that if it is causing a ton of frustration then we just need to wait another few weeks to try again. Wait it out for a few weeks or a month and you might be surprised what a difference it makes! Have a great weekend, Mary.

HOKEY POKEY!!! What a delicious NZ treat. I remember all the Whittakers chocolate bars when we were there, so good!

Reply

You have been all over the world!! I need to follow your lead (once it is safe again:). I hope you are having a great day working at home and I know your cats are sure happy you are there right now.

19 laps for a marathon?! No thank you haha. This shows how mentally strong the elites are! They are going to do that at crazy speeds in a tough/strange year for training and racing. Always impressive!

Reply

Right?! I cannot even imagine! It will be interesting to see if people get lapped etc. Hope you have a fabulous day Mariah.

Ok, I think I’m going to ask for that foot massager for Christmas! But please keep us posted on how it holds up. I’ve been pretty disappointed in Amazon quality control lately and also have learned not to trust reviews- last week, I discovered that an old Amazon account of mine had been hacked and they were leaving many detailed “verified reviews” in my name. But I hope it’s an awesome product for you, and I’ll trust your review of it!

Reply

Hey Gail! I totally will! I hadn’t even thought about how the reviews could get messed up by things like that… I’m so sorry your old account was hacked into! I will definitely let you know how it holds up (now to just get my kids away from wanting to use it all day too ha because I’m sure that won’t help:). Thanks friend and I hope you have a beautiful day.

Oh that foot massager looks amazing!

is it bad to say sleep lol. It’s been a busy week. In all seriousness River had her first puppy class so we have all these new skills to practice. It will be a good weekend to practice its pouring rain here lol..

We just had pho takeout and it was so good! lol.

Have a wondergil day! Janae!

YAY for River and puppy classes, that is so exciting! I am right there with you and the sleep answer haha. Now I need some pho, that sounds so so good right now. Thank you so much Kristine and you too.

Hi Janae:

OMG that two videos made my day. Makes you realize the world REALLY IS A GREAT PLACE WITH INCREDIBLY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this.

I hope you and your family have an amazing weekend. Also always praying for your Dad.

I am so glad you loved it. It makes me feel so happy to see reminders of all of the good that is happening in the world. Thank you Donna and that sure means a lot. Have a great day!

I remembered another tip! Rub a thin layer of Vaseline over the cut surfaces and they will keep a little longer.

You are full of the best tips! THANK YOU FRIEND and I hope your day is off to a great start.

I looking forward to a good weekend. House work is done and grocery shopping will be done soon. Tonight, homecoming high school football game (very small town and we bring lawn chairs and sit as families around the football field), going to a pumpkin patch tomorrow. Its going to be close to 90 degrees tomorrow and rain and mid 60’s on Sunday. Tomorrow we’re having hamburgers on the grill and Sunday chicken noodle casserole.

Reply

Betsy, it sounds like a fabulous weekend up ahead for you and I am glad you’ll have the house work and shopping out of the way before that. Enjoy the game and pumpkin patch and I might need you to share that casserole recipe with you… yum. Thanks!

Hi Janae! I gotta check out that organizing show. I’ve spent a good part of my week off trying to organize things and some things I just have no idea how to organize (like documents, knick knacks, gym equipment). But there’s something about an organized house that just makes me feel good just looking at it. Yesterday we had a cook out with some friends! They made most of the food at home and finished it at my fiance’s house and then we ate outside in the backyard. The weather magically cleared up for us and it was so awesome to see a few other people! Felt like a small slice of normal. So I’m thinking of more ways we can do stuff like that. Happy Friday!!

I’d take a back massage – I slept a little funny last night and would love to get the kinks out!

My mom was incredibly crafty – I did not get any of that talent.

Best meal? That’s a tough one – there was an amazing Greek meal on Mykonos, pizza on the island of Capri, an Italian lunch in Rome… Now I just want to go back to Europe! The food there is so amazing

No plans for the weekend, which is always a nice change!

Reply

I have also been watching Home edit and Marie Kondo’s show. It has changed my life and my super organized husband couldn’t be more grateful. I have dreams about organizing things in our house. The shows have changed how many things I hang on to and how I store them. I’ve never appreciated organization before and my mind has been blown.

You are not kidding that your nephew is flying! Did they stagger start or run it as usual and just have spectators spread out? I love that “our” sport is one of the safest right now for kids. Outside, not crowded, no contact (at least a majority of the time until elbows out at start/finish!).

I am a nurse so a foot massage right now would be fantastic.

Treats/candy/meal….that’s a toss up. Italy has delicious treats/meals but the UK has some amazing and unique candy. When we went to NZ the Hokey Pokey Chip ice cream was our favorite flavor. I hope you find it fun and yummy!! Every year I make a box swap with someone in my family-they send a Trader Joe’s box and I send an EU box. Pretty sweet deal, literally.

We have GOBS of rain right now so I should probably join you in watching the Home Edit show on Netflix……

My mind is blown by the pumpkin carving tip, and YAY for your nephew! I’m totally intrigued by that foot massager. I will never say no to any kind of massage, but a foot massage sounds especially good right now. With heat too it might just be my best friend this winter! And I may need to watch that show on netflix, my house could sure use some organizing, hah! We used to have a cleaner come once a month and it forced us to keep things tidy, but that hasn’t happened since COVID and things have gotten a little out of control. This weekend plan is to spend as much time outside as possible, it should be the first weekend with clear air in so long, boy am I grateful!!

Seeing Brooke with her quilt reminds me of latch hook rug kits as a kid. I bet she will love those!

My favorite treat from another country was Bicky Lays potato chips. There’s a picture of a hamburger and fries on the bag. They are good!

Reply

Pineapple lumps. My mouth is watering. My friend from NZ introduced me to them years ago. I think I need to get some. It makes me miss her. Enjoy your treats!!!

about to hop on the treadmill and listen to the Jared Ward podcast – thanks for sharing. I WISH I could go and watch when it’s being run so close but will have to settle with watching on TV all morning. Can’t believe last time I saw you was IN LONDON – ps let me know if you want any British goodies! xx
