Friday Favorites!

I was just running along and minding my own business when all of the sudden I saw a man sprint by me with a little white dog.  I was still kind of asleep so it took me a second to register that it was my brother.  They were out on a walk and when they saw me running he decided to surprise me:).   We just need to find a way to get them to move here.

Seeing those little blue eyes was a great start to my day.

I then finished up my run and hung out on my porch for a bit.

I use the exact same ingredients to make this egg burrito but when Andrew makes it for me, it just tastes a million times better.

We spent time over at my sister-in-laws sister’s house and she had this granola for us to try and WOW.  Just wow.  I will be purchasing this asap.

From there we went to get the kids snow cones (Skye talks about Tigers Blood flavoring daily) and I had chicken strips and fries there that were delicious.

And that wraps up another summer day!

Oh and then I ate brownies on the couch while I watched Family Feud ha.

A few of my favorite things from this week!

*I was going through a list of the top selling items on Amazon and came across this Hair Scalp Massager Shampoo Brush with 13k 4.5 star reviews and since it was only $8 I decided to try it.  I fell in love quickly and see why everyone else loves it.  It gives you the best scalp massage and feels like you are able to REALLY get in there with your shampoo.  Because I don’t wash my hair a ton… it makes it so that when I do, it is cleaner than ever.

*My new hobby:).  I had a bunch of you recommend this book to me and so far I am loving it and it is perfect for a beginner.   I am so excited about getting more into lifting and finally understanding it more.

*I found another pair of cheap leggings that I’m obsessed with (and they have too many colors to choose from!).  They aren’t maternity leggings but with the thick waistband I just went up a size.  They move with you, I love the pocket on both legs, they aren’t see-through, they feel like butter while they are on and they wash really really well…. They are HERE for $25!

IMG 6036

*Definitely not a favorite for Andrew ha but the kids have LOVED watching ‘Floor Is Lava’ on Netflix and then we try it at our own house with the furniture ha.

IMG 6047

*Gushers.  All of the Gushers.  I might have hid them in my bedroom because I am being a little selfish with them.

Random running q of the day… do you ever crave soda after a hot run/race?

-I normally always do but when I’m pregnant the idea of soda is not my favorite but here is why you may crave it too:

What book are you reading these days?

What is a food/meal that always tastes so much better when somebody else makes it for you?

We are finally getting our driveway paved today – we live in a rural area and it’s been loose gravel since we moved In 2.5 years ago and it’s hard for bike riding in summer / snow shoveling in winter! So that’s exciting, although we have to park at my neighbours which is a bit of a hike on the side of the road to get to my car but it will be worth it!

I am reading the silent patient (my 23thrd book this year – last year I read 56 so I’m a bit behind if I want to beat that)! Reading is my hobby like running is yours lol. Not normally into mysteries / thrillers but it’s good so far.

I love your summer activities! We have plans to go for ice cream with Allie and her littlest cousin tonight, so that should be fun!

YAY Andrea, I am excited about your driveway! This is going to make life so much easier. 23rd book this year, you are on fire! I love mysteries/thrillers so I have to check this one out. Have the best time getting ice cream tonight and have a beautiful day.

Silent Patient is soooo good! The ending is ??.

This weekend consists of a long run, family time, and probably watching Hamilton now that it’s on Disney plus!

I am reading Little Women right now. I read all the Harry Potter books for the first time at the beginning of the year and then I got into a few cheesy murder mysteries (so good!) and then I thought I should read a classic. While the quarantine has been a downer on a lot of things, it has allowed me to read so much more than I usually do and I’m loving it!

Thank you so much for reminding me that it is now on Disney plus, I will watch it this weekend too! Oh I love that you are reading Little Women, so so good. You’ll have to let me know which was your favorite of the murder mysteries:). I am so glad you are finally getting time to read more, keep enjoying and your Harry Potter reading this year will make Andrew so happy! Have a great weekend Sloan.

I just finished The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes. I was not sure that a historical fiction book about the packhorse librarians would catch my interest, but it was so good! Lots of strong female characters that I loved. Now I am reading One to Watch. It was in my book of the month box last month.

Funny, my family and I were just talking about sofa after runs! I don’t really like it, but my friend just ran his first marathon and was really worn out around mile 22…someone was handing out coke, and he said it completely revived him. Maybe I need to try it!

I just read Defending Jacob, which was this amazing crime/courtroom/family drama that was so complex and well-written. It’s not normally a book I‘d think was for me, but wow. So good. And I also read Born to Run by Chris McDougall—never thought a book on running would make me cry!

Our oldest son’s girlfriend is arriving from Vermont today! She’s never been to CA before, so I’m hoping we do enough fun stuff (considering so much is still closed) that she really loves it here. Such a new and a little scary, stage of parenting!
Our city has cancelled the big fireworks show this year. It makes me so sad. And, they are not allowing the neighborhood to close off the streets for the big block parties… It will feel really different! So we’re not sure exactly what we’re going to do. But, we’ll still BBQ and see the neighbors. But the 4th always starts with a 4 mile run for me, with all the red, white, and blue running clothes… ha
I’m still reading How Bad Do You Want It… So good! But I am going to need another book soon.
Have a great Friday ?

What an exciting weekend you guys are going to have. She is going to love it there (and ahhh yes that must be a bit scary to be in this new stage)! YES for the red, white and blue running clothes… wish we could all run together in them. Enjoy the bbq and time with family and neighbors. Thanks Wendy, you too!

That is awesome that the soda was able to help your friend so much! Try it out sometime and let me know if it helps you! Thank you for telling me about Defending Jacob, I will definitely have to read that. You aren’t alone in reading Born to Run! I hope you have a great weekend Kristin.

Hi Janae! I am reading The Hate U Give after you posted about it a few weeks ago. I haven’t finished yet but it’s a point of view I never considered. Cases here are increasing fast so my fiance and I decided to just stay in for the 4th. I think pretty much all foods taste better when I know someone else made it for me, I just feel happy they did something for me so even if it’s not perfect I still like it a lot more than if I had the same thing at a restaurant. Happy Friday and I’m so glad you get to spend time with your brother in town!

I am so glad that you are reading it. We need to have a book club discussion about it all. I hope you and your fiance have an amazing time together at home! I hope you have a great day and thank you so much friend.

First of all, have to say you look awesome and your runs are impressive. I ran through my second pregnancy but not with the dedication that you have.
I bought that scalp massager too haha. My daughter got one for each of us on Amazon. My hair is fine but there is a lot of it and it helps me feel like I’m getting everything really clean.
In CA and getting nervous about all the cases increasing here, so we are staying home (like Utah, not a bad place to stay home-Bay Area).
Have a great holiday and everyone stay safe.

I’ve never craved a soda after a run or race. I clicked over to the article and saw that one of my favorite products was listed – Hammer Cola flavored Endurolyte Fizz is one I use. I usually want something salty after a race.

We had surprise company this week – our nephew and 2 of his friends are on a road trip from Tennessee and stopped in for a couple of days – I’m trying not to believe it was the free food and laundry that drew them ;) They’re heading to San Diego today then it will be lots of relaxing for me and Les. California has shut down restaurants and a bunch of other businesses again, so we’re just staying home.

Since I do 99% of the cooking here (Les mans the barbecue), anything made by someone else is awesome!

Gushers are incredible BUT have you tried the Starburst fruit by the foot?!?!?

We live in Denver and drove to St Louis last night to visit family. (Both sides life here). I was hit hard in the face with the heat and humidity when we got here this morning. I took our dog on a quick walk and was greeted by mosquitos bites and found a tick. So it was quite the welcome home. My husband wants to move back to be close to family (one of our reasons for the visit it we have a new nephew as of 2.5 weeks ago), but I forgot how bad the humidity can be, especially coming from hot and DRY weather (while still having cooler mornings). So I’ve probably only made a small handful of meals in the past 3 years! Before that, I would make most of the meals but my husband still cooked too since he actually enjoys it, but it’s nice now for most of my meals to be made by someone else!
I’m just started White Fragility earlier this week!
A sandwich always tastes better when someone else makes it! We have a 2 year old now and since I’ve been pregnant, my husband has made dinner to help contribute! And now he continues to cook bc everytime I try to cook my daughter has to be in the kitchen with me (it’s very tiny) or I have to hold her, which is obviously hard.

Sandwiches and salads almost always taste better when someone else makes them. Omelettes too now that I think about it.

I am waiting on some books to get here (I ordered from a very small bookstore in NYC) and am so excited to get- Nutricide: The Nutritional Destruction of the Black Race and Motherwit: An Alabama Midwife’s Story. I love books on midwifery and nursing topics.

It’s weird to me that it’s 4th of July weekend-not here in EU! Although I miss fireworks, NYE has so many fireworks here that it well makes up for none on the 4th. Typically when we visit the states we are there for the 4th and go to the coast, so that’s kind of sad for us right now.

Have a FANTASTIC weekend. Those snocones look so good.

I had to think way too long about “sister-in-law’s sister’s house” but I got now, haha! It’s 3.30 am over here so don’t judge me ;)

Happy 4th of july! Hope you and your family have a great weekend :)

I came across your blog when I was pregnant and looking for inspiration that I would still keep up with running after my kid. My kiddo is a bit younger than Skye. Still am not where I was pre preggo with my runs…. I still follow your blog though. You are so positive and love your posts and Skye is beyond adorable. It always keeps me inspired and energized especially after a stressful day as a momma. BTW, I love the new rules of lifting! I credit it with getting me to be a faster runner. Strength and lifting heavy made such a difference!

I’m reading “Unbroken” by Lauren Hillenbrand, the story about the olympic miler that went to the war in the 1940’s and getting lost/captured and the ordeal he went through: incredible man and story. I know this came out a few years ago but I’m pretty late to the game. She also wrote “Seabuscuit”, another favourite of mine. I’ll watch the movie unbroken after I finish reading the book if I can find it somewhere.
