JUST a Season and He Needs to Get Back to Work.

Eight solo miles while listening to the Office Ladies podcast (I love that one so much) and I came home to Brooke wrapped up like a burrito doing homework.

I really miss talking about exciting workouts that we used to do or crazy trail adventures or having a countdown until the next race but I keep reminding myself… THIS IS JUST A SEASON.  All of that racing talk will be back at some point but with more gratitude for them than ever before.

Skye slept in until 11 a.m.  She went to bed the night before a little later than normal but she just kept sleeping and sleeping in the morning…   She must be growing.

Our highlight of the day was spending time at the park on the grass celebrating Taco Tuesday and Cinco de Mayo all at once.

IMG 2577

$1 tacos that tasted perfect.

IMG 2610

How they can go from eating tacos to sprinting within a matter of seconds is amazing to me.   PS see the Y on the mountain?  That’s the one we used to run to the top of during marathon training last year!

IMG 2614

I think we found a new Tuesday tradition… you just can’t beat $1 tacos that are extremely delicious.

IMG 2616

Dessert on the way home.

How many bandaids are too many bandaids?

Andrew and I finished off the night by watching The 99ers on the ESPN app.  It was about the US women’s soccer team winning the 1999 World Cup and it was AMAZING.  I could watch athlete’s stories all day long and this one made me want to sign up for a soccer league.

Just a few more random things before I let you go!

*My mom sent this movie to me about how this time of life has changed us and it is really beautiful.  PS my parents will continue to stay in quarantine until there is a vaccine or cure.  We will continue to do porch visits but that’s all we will see of them for a while.

*This is the rice that I use the most often at home.  I usually like to put together meals last second ha so I can just pop this into the microwave for three minutes and then I have amazing rice.  If we are needing rice for our whole family then I’ll use the rice cooker but these bags are in the frozen section at TJ’s and come with three packs in the box.

IMG 0811

*Molly Seidel posted this on her instagram story and it made me feel so relieved haha!  I cannot touch my toes no matter what I do… according to this, that’s not really a problem even though I doubt it is really true but at least I’m not the only one that can’t touch her toes:)

IMG 2543

*My nieces and nephews are VERY ready for my brother to get back to flying airplanes again….

———————————————————————————————————-

Those of you working, how has this all effected your job?

How often do you stretch and are you flexible?

Run or workout today?  What do you have on the agenda today for endorphins?

Give me 3 words to explain how you are feeling today?!

No running today because I did 6 miles yesterday after work! I normally run 3 or 4 max on weekdays so I’m excited to have time to ramp up mileage! Today will be a nice walk and some yoga instead.

I can touch my toes, but sometimes I think height makes a difference. I’m only 5’2″, so not as far to go haha.

Reply

Mariah, that is AWESOME! Way to get in 6 after work (running after work counts for even way more because it’s so hard after a long day). Enjoy that walk and yoga and I hope that is part of the reason why I can’t;). Have a beautiful day!

Reply

Now I know why I’m so bad at running…I can totally touch my toes, and if I’m standing up doing it I can almost put my hands flat on the floor. Ha!!

Reply

THAT IS AMAZING (and you are an awesome runner)! Teach me how to do that. Have a beautiful day, Claire!

Oh girl I can’t believe that sleep Skye does! My kids are up by 7 every day no matter what. and I am a morning person but sometimes I want my morning to myself! Haha
Where did you get $1tacos? They looked good!
I’m sorry to hear you won’t be seeing your parents more. That is tough! Do they get sick easily?

Reply

I hope those kiddos start sleeping in a bit more for you but yours sound normal, mine are the abnormal sleepers!
The tacos were from a place called Don Joaquin and they were so so good. They both have risk factors so it’s best they never get this! Thanks friend and I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Reply

Haha oh no I did great in sit and reach in school and broke the school record for it one year. Darn all those years of synchronized swimming, my running will never be great!

Reply

BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD?! Okay, that is incredible. Have the best day, Victoria!

The 3 Cs! Good luck today (to you, Hope and Chris;). I hope that the cramps ease up asap!

I’m pretty flexible and I stretch daily, but it definitely wasn’t natural for me–I learned how to stretch in high school sports, and keeping up with yoga has made a big difference! I always struggled so much with those random fitness tests in PE . . . as an adult I really don’t think they were good indicators of fitness then, or for our futures!

Working from home now, and I miss going to work SO much–I really love my job and I can’t wait to go back, even though it will be a while. I had a great run this morning, which is the best way to start off!

Hmm . . . 3 words. Hopeful, thoughtful, and restless.

Reply

I’m with you on those random fitness tests… not sure they predict much! SO awesome that you stretch daily, you are my example! I really hope you are back to work sooner than later and how cool to love your job so much (I get it)! Thanks Kristin!

I am not very flexible at all – never have been. I was always jealous as a kid of the other girls who would drop down into the splits like it was nothing.
I have a question for you, Janae. During my run yesterday, a song came on and I immediately skipped it and made a mental note (again) that I need to remove it from my run playlist. Why? Because it once came on during a 5K that was my worst 5K ever, and during the lowest part of that race. I can remember exactly where I was in the race when the song started. (It was Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles if you’re wondering lol) So, my question is, are there any songs you have to skip because of the negative running memories associated with them, or on the flipside, are there any songs that hold memories of a great run or race?

Reply

Hey Amanda! ABSOLUTELY 100% yes to both what happened to you and the flipside. Sometimes the song reminds me of a bad time of life or a bad race and yep, I SKIP and sometimes just the right song comes on and all of the great memories flow in. I was wondering so I’m glad you told me ha and that song can now Hit the Road for you;). Have a beautiful day and I hope during your next run that the perfect songs come on.

I have been working from home for about 6 weeks… I never thought I would miss going into the office, but I definitely do! I miss all of my coworkers and friends at work! I also have been dealing with some struggles to keep a good work/life balance! I have a nice setup at home to work, but my back has been killing me lately. I have been trying to avoid it, but I might have to go to the chiro to make it through another month (or however long it takes until it’s relatively safe to be at work).
I try to stretch regularly – I do yoga but I also try to stretch throughout the day (see comment above about a sore back!) – I ‘m not as flexible as say… my yoga instructor, but I’m pretty flexible!
I should go for a run today… we will see if I do that or not. :) My final race in July was just switched to a virtual so I’m kind of sad about that (even though it doesn’t surprise me).

Reply

I bet you are missing your coworkers a lot right now! Have you heard any word on when you might be going back? I hope the chiro can help your back… my lower back has been bugging me too! I’m going to follow your lead and try to stretch throughout the day. I’m sorry about your race and I totally get it… motivation is so much harder without a race. I hope your have a great Wednesday, Rhiannon!

Reply

I have the opposite problem of most people: tight quads instead of tight hamstrings. So I can touch my toes with ease but have a lot of trouble with any of the quad stretches.
I try to fit in at least one yoga class a week to stretch everything out.

Reply

That is really interesting, Samantha. Our bodies are big puzzle pieces. Way to go getting in yoga regularly and I hope your Wednesday is a beautiful one!

Whoah, check out Lord of the Dance! If he could make this part of the preflight routine, I think I would travel more often. ON FIRE!!! This made my day.

Bahaha don’t give him any ideas;). Haha actually Southwest would probably be okay with it. Have a beautiful day, Stephanie!

My work closed down seven weeks ago (I’m a massage therapist) and I just recently got my first unemployment check (better late than never, Florida!) My workout today was a 6 mile run and some strength- I’m having an issue lately where every time I do squats, I somehow tweak my inner thigh. Anyone else have this problem? Obviously I can just leave out the squats, but I feel like I should be doing them!
I love the kids reaction in your brother’s video, ha! Have a great day!

Reply

Jenny, that is so so hard. Do you have any idea when you will be able to start back up again. I’m glad a check finally arrived. Bummer about your squats right now, can anyone help Jenny out? Thank you so much and you too!

Ha! Your brother is a good time. Whenever I fly Southwest I make sure to check if he’s at the controls!!!!

I hope someday that you get to fly with him! Have a wonderful day, Jen!

I am a substitute teacher, so I am out of a job:-( I am a little nervous what might come fall as well regarding kids going back to school, who they let into the school, etc. I am trying my hardest not to worry and think too far ahead!

I am very flexible although I have lost some of it in my older age. I try to get away with not stretching, but I have found it leads to aches/pains, etc. I seem to do ok if I just dedicate a few minutes after a run. We noticed a couple years ago that my sister, who is not flexible at all has the tendency to get injured if she incorporates a stretching routine. Plus, she is faster than me with way less training…so I believe that article is true!

I hope they find a vaccine/cure soon so your parents can give everyone a big hug! Although they are blessed to have children like you who will go “porch visit” with them.

Reply

Becky, that is so so hard. I really hope that this fall is so much better than we could hope for. Keep me updated on what you hear from the schools in your area. Okay, that is really interesting about your sister… getting more injured when she does stretch?! Thank you so much Becky, I really hope that there is a cure soon too! Have a beautiful day, Becky!

Your brother…. Ha ha ha
I’ve been wondering about how all of this has affected pilots and the entire airline industry.
I try to stretch every day, and I use to be super flexible, but I’m not as flexible anymore. I can touch my toes though.
I will do a typical 4 mile run today. I’m running between 4 and 8 miles 6 days a week. Being outside, running, getting fresh air is really helpful right now. Especially on those days when you just feel “done” with everything.
I love that Skye needs so many Band-Aids… It’s so funny and cute.
$1 tacos are the best! I tried to call our favorite place yesterday, but they were so busy I never did get through to place an order. So happy for them, but so sad for us. So I ended up making tacos at home.
Have a good Wednesday ?

Reply

The airline industry has definitely been hit hard but luckily, Southwest (who he flies for) is doing the best throughout this all. I hope those four miles felt amazing and you got in all of the sunshine. I hope your tacos were amazing and that you get some of those tacos from your favorite place soon! Thanks Wendy, you too!

Those tacos look amazing!
LOVE your brother’s video :)
I’m fortunate to be able to 100% telework now, though work patterns/consistency and online school are extra to juggle.
I don’t stretch often. Surprise! I’m not very flexible ~haha~
Today is an indoor workout (deadlifts, pushups, box step-ups) and relatively short, which is nice after yesterday’s running intervals with jump squats and push presses. That will rev up some endorphins (but I may also grab a bite of chocolate to help that along :)
3 words: striving for patience

Thanks so much, he definitely isn’t shy. SO glad that you are still working but that is a lot to be balancing now! Way to get in some awesome workouts today and yesterday and enjoy that chocolate (hopefully it’s more than one bite;). I’m going to join you in those 3 words too. Thanks Corey!

Your brother and his kids are hilarious! I did taco Tuesday and cinco de mayo wrong this year and accidentally celebrated it on Monday! This is has been a very very long year! Ha!
I’ve remained working this whole time and my company laid off half of the employees, but are now coming back to work and some are still working from home. We slowed down for only a week or 2 but we’re ramping up to full speed already and we’re still in phase 1 of reopening in WA (essential businesses, boating, fishing and most trails are open).
I had 0 flexibility until I started yoga 2x/week starting in March. I can finally sit criss-cross applesauce w/out being in pain!
Today I finally broke 135 in the 10 mile! I was stuck pace rut for the last 5 or 6 weeks and literally all of my 10 mile runs were 135-136:xx. Today I finally did it and ran 134:xx!
Today I’m elated, hungry and tired! Lol!
Have a great day!

Reply

Hahah I don’t think anybody really knows what day it is anymore (thank goodness for our phones at least keeping track)! I hope your tacos on Monday were amazing. Half of the employees were laid off?! WOW. So glad you guys are coming back to work now and that you’ve been able to work this whole time.
CONGRATS ON YOUR AWESOME 10 miler and breaking 135.. you are on fire! I hope you get in all of the good food and a nap today too. Thanks Jenny!

Half of us are working from home now. It has been not bad as we have the technology but definitely missing my co workers.
Our work place has been fortunate and work has been busy! I have become very adept at zoom ha.

Not sure of today’s workout but the run yesterday was gorgeous. 5 Mile run in 20 degree celcius weather.

Definitely not flexible haha.

I am usually a pretty hsppt person but j think this time has made me feel really uncertain. And the not knowing is hard.

But our puppy is 2 weeks now and having her to look forward to is definitely a bright spot. Have a great day!

Reply

I bet your coworkers are missing you too! So glad you guys are very busy right now, what a blessing. I hope that whatever workout you do today it feels awesome. Just 6 more weeks until she is home with you and that uncertainty… I get it. It’s hard. Thanks Kristine!

The faces of your nieces and nephews in that video are priceless!

We are fortunate that Les has been able to continue working from home – he’s been busier than ever. The only thing that has changed for us is not traveling to Hawaii, that probably won’t happen until July.

I do yoga 2-3 times a week and have gotten more flexible but still can’t even come close to a lotus pose. I can easily touch my toes, but I have short legs so I’m not sure that’s a true test of flexibility.

Les and I both needed an active recovery day so we went for a walk.

How I’m feeling: tired, peaceful, thoughtful.

Reply

I am SO glad that work is going so well for Les during this time! I really hope you are able to get back to Hawaii in July! Glad you got in a walk together and I hope you are able to get in some rest today!

Thanks Kathy!

Hi Janae! Good tip on the TJs rice, I usually get the Costco microwaveable rice or quinoa blend and they are pretty good too! That mountain looks so daunting but also really inviting to me at the same time haha. I can only touch my toes if I dip towards them really fast, but I’ve been doing yoga so hopefully soon they will be mine. I’ve been loving doing dance workouts on YouTube for endorphins, doesn’t feel like a workout but if you do enough you still get sore!

Reply

I need to try Costco’s version… yum! Okay, those dance workouts sound like a blast. I need to try that! Have a beautiful day, Amy!

I work in digital marketing so i was lucky to be able to shift and work from home fairly easily. Doing it with crazy kids made it a lot more difficult lol.

Today is a stretch and recover day. Looking at some different strength workouts! I’m so bad at actually doing cross training! lol.

Enjoy your day!

Reply

SO glad that you’ve been able to shift to working at home easily but doing it while juggling kids is tough! I’m with you on cross training, I just want to RUNNNNN. Thanks Kristin and you too.

I’m a nurse in the ER (in NZ) so my job has really ramped up as you can probably imagine. Though where I live we’ve actually not had many cases so the department has been eerily quiet but with a really palpable anxiety there if that makes any sense. It’s beginning to pick up a bit now with stepping down to level 3 and everything opening up again.

My plan for the day is to run just and easy run as I did a tempo yesterday and I really should try get a workout in too. I am naturally on the flexible side but I don’t stretch very consistently so am getting to be more and more tight the more I run! I can touch my toes but not with hands flat on the floor.

Three words to describe me today? Tired, bored, determined

Your brothers video was just the best. He really is so funny. And the kids are awesome too. You can tell they are a very happy family.

Reply

Still working as normal, but hospitals are a lot quieter. Ramping up a bit over the last week. I can touch my toes, almost put hands flat on the ground! Not great flexibility otherwise though. The only time my daughter ever slept in to 10:30, it was my husbands surprise birthday brunch and his whole family was waiting for us at a restaurant and we ALL slept in that late … shows that you should never use your kid as an alarm clock ;)

Reply

Your brother’s video is the BEST???I also love your niece’s dramatics at the end—so funny and thank you for sharing!!

Reply

The mountains are gorgeous!!

I am currently working from home, which has gone fine. My kids are old enough that they are pretty self-sufficient and I’m grateful that I can get up and go for a walk when I need to get out of the house :)

I should stretch more than I do, but I’ve actually done more recently since I am not rushing off to work which has been nice! I ran 10 miles this morning on a new route so that was awesome!

3 words: tired, hungry, grateful.

Reply

Oh that video was amazing I burst out laughing. It warms my heart! :)

Reply

I am not flexible AT ALL and never have been. I also don’t put nearly the amount of time into it I should. Such a mental block with stretching. It used to feel like a waste of time. I’d rather spend those extra minutes getting in another mile! But it seems like since I’ve hit 30 my body is not having it, ha!
I’m trying to use our quarantine to focus more on flexibility. In fact, I’ve been making stretching my time to catch up on your blog — so thanks for giving me something fun to focus on! It’s great to hear you guys can see family a bit more now. And I’m sure those porch visits mean the world to your parents. I hope the relaxing of restrictions goes well in Utah! And hopefully the rest of us get to learn from states like yours on how to manage this move safely when it becomes a viable option where we are :)

Reply

I am really grateful to still be able to work from home. I have to admit I like not having a long commute each day and more flexibility!
Unfortunately no run due to an injury but a little bit of biking outside. When the closures happened I had more time and made the mistake of ramping up mileage too fast and too soon. Also running on older shoes— I should’ve known better. I am praying it isn’t a stress fracture on my tibia/ inner lower leg but have taken a few days off and plan to test it out again tomorrow.
Has anyone had a stress fracture and can tell me what it felt like or a good way to distinguish it from something else? I’m trying to avoid the doctor’s office right now with everything going on here.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Skye’s bandaid picture and your brother’s video have literally made my entire month. I love it!!!
